Graceland is one of my favorite albums of all time.

For three summers when I was 7-9 my parents drove us from San Francisco to a plot of land they owned outside Taos New Mexico. We would hit different landmarks there and back each time, Yosemite, Zion National Park, Disneyland, Death Valley all in the dead of July in a Maroon colored '89 GMC Vandura that had no air conditioning. You could sit up front in the middle seat and watch the sun baked miles roll by or lie on the futon unfurled in the back, but mile after mile there was no escape. My parents didn't know any road games or nursery rhymes and the only form of entertainment came from a single cassette tape they owned which was Paul Simon's Graceland. Thousands of miles, the only thing running through your head was Call me Al, Homeless, Crazy love, and of course the diamonds, the ones on her shoes. My dad who couldn't carry a tune to save his life would belt out the Diamonds chorus. Eventually we'd arrive at our land outside Taos, the sage brush stretching out with the curve of the earth into the horizon under the shadow of the Mesa and the coming storm, I'd curl up tight in our dimestore tent as the plump drops of rain fell with me praying on the words of saint simon that lightning wouldn't touch us, repeating "diamonds on the soles of her shoes"

I feel like Vampire Weekend's Paul Simon influence is most evident on this track. It's almost as if VW listened to this track and thought "yeah, but what if we made a whole album in this style". Not that there is anything wrong with that.
