Honestly, would you rather The Beatles broke up or kept going to the point they were producing rubbish and in their 50s cashing in on their early successes?

Someone already posted this video days ago, u/LovableContrarian posted this:

This story and Stern's interpretation of this story is kinda bogus. The real story is pretty well documented.

Stern says that "John broke up the beatles then tried to blame it on you (Paul)."

That's not really what happened. John left the beatles because he wanted to. They weren't getting along, it was getting stressful, and he really just wanted to hang out with Yoko and do whatever he wanted to. It wasn't a publicity stunt or a cry for attention or anything - John wasn't really about that life. He was just like "ya sorry guys I'm done."

The other Beatles asked him to not make it public, and he was like "yeah sure whatever" so he never told the press or media. Then Paul McCartney took out a full page in the paper announcing that he was leaving the Beatles.

Like everything else, Paul was obsessed with being the center of attention and the "leader of the Beatles." Same reason he later sued to have songwriting credits changed from "Lennon/McCartney" to "McCartney/Lennon." He was extremely petty and hated the idea that anyone would ever consider John the "main" beatle. So, again, he couldn't stand the history book saying that john was the one to leave the beatles first. He wanted to be first. So he asked John to be quiet and turned around and publicly told the media that he broke up the Beatles. Then he of course circulated the story that the Beatles all hated John because of Yoko, when in reality the other 3 Beatles were all mad at Paul (for the let it be movie, hogging attention, etc), not John or Yoko.

So, John really didn't do anything except leave, because he wanted to. He didn't "blame paul" or try to pin it on anyone else. It was Paul who made a huge media circus about the whole thing.

EDIT: Some people below me have corrected some details. He never "sued" to change Lennon/McCartney to McCartney/Lennon, but he did keep changing it on his albums which incited potential legal action. But, point stands. He was trying to change an iconic tag that they had agreed on forever ago with his dead friend, just because he wanted to be first in some liner notes. Still petty/egotistical IMO.

And, he didn't "take an ad out" to announce his leaving the beatles, but the rest is accurate. He did ask Lennon to not tell the media then told the media himself, leading to the super famous "Paul Quits the Beatles" headlines.
