I think it's interesting that he said that Ringo joined through George. Maybe I'm remembering my Beatles history incorrectly but I've never had the impression that Ringo joining was George's idea alone.
I've always liked John's line of thinking towards The Beatles getting back together. "I'll do it if everyone else wants to, but it will be in the studio and we'll only put it out if there's still chemistry there". The chemistry part is important, because I feel like the later you get into the 70s before they would hypothetically get back together the less likely they would be to still have that chemistry. That's why I think John calling it "pie in the sky" is an accurate description of The Beatles recording again by the time this interview happened.
The chemistry of The Beatles is something that doesn't get enough credit when talking about their success and the quality of their music. They were called a "four-headed monster" for a reason.
Watched this so many times and itβs one of the best videos on the internet
I like this interview, John is more authentic in this interview than he sometimes was. I think it's got something to do with the unassuming interviewer as well.
