year we celebrate 71 years of pathfindering worldwide and here at arima trinidad we also join in the celebration happy world pathfinder have you ever wondered how the pathfinder ministry got started or how the ministry became known as pathfinders in the spirit of the oshkosh international campari david trim explains the origins of pathfinders the origins of pathfinders lie in the creation of missionary volunteer societies in 1907 they were the concept of flora plummer director of the general conference sabbath school department and milton kern the first youth director for the world church junior missionary volunteer or jmv societies were added in 1909 the idea of local clubs doing outdoor activities was advocated in 1922 by arthur w spalding director of family ministries at the general conference who in 1919 had started a small group of what he called mission scouts for the youth of his home church the first camp out by junior missionary volunteers was at town line lake michigan in 1926 and at some point in late 1927 or early 28 the term pathfinder was first used probably by john mckim youth leader of the south eastern california conference by 1931 the structure of classes for pre-jmvs or adventurers as they are now called and for pathfinders was in place from busy bee through what was then called master comrade but since 1951 has been called master guide pathfinder clubs began to spring up across the north american division and in the late 1940s the pathfinder emblem flag and song were all created in 1950 the general conference authorized pathfinder clubs for the world field with lawrence skinner the first world pathfinder director now the first clubs in australia in new zealand had already been founded by enthusiasts in the late 1940s but with official authorization the concept began to spread around the world it adapted to local circumstances and languages for example in brazil pathfinders were called de bravadores in spanish speaking america they became conquistadores but always the core concepts were preserved learning crafts healthy and wholesome activities in the outdoors and spiritual development today pathfindering is truly international only one of the five world directors since 1970 has been an american the others coming from brazil south africa australia and spain meanwhile though new features had been developed in north america the first pathfinder fair was held in september 1951 and the first campari in may 1954 both in california and gradually these innovations also spread worldwide for example this rare movie footage is of the first pathfinder fair in new zealand organized by john trim in 1963 in christchurch some things have changed for example there are few if any places where girls still have white gloves as part of their uniforms but there are remarkable continuities tent pitching fire making and not tying all remain typical parts of the pathfinder experience the first north american division campari was in 1985 in colorado the third such campari in 1994 became international and the fourth in 1999 was the first held in oshkosh the international campaign held every five years has grown from strength to strength youth leaders and pathfinders across north america and the globe look forward to it plan for it and fund raise so they can go to oshkosh the vision of flora plummer milton kern arthur spalding lawrence skinner and others continues to inspire adventists of all ages around the world shaping young lives for service to our lord jesus [Music] vietnam is one of the most visited countries for tourism in southeast asia it offers so many exciting things for its visitors from the breathtaking vistas of halong bay to promising business opportunities in the city hanoi is the place to be for tourists and locals alike with a population of 9 million living in the city there is only a small number of adventists yet this is an opportunity for the church to reach more people for christ the adventists here constructed a seven-story building as an urban center of influence in hanoi to meet the needs of the local community on our first floor we have a bookstore that is open to the community where people can come in and purchase books that can help them to grow in their walk with the lord we have english language school that we are able to build relationships with individuals we are reaching out to the community by ministering to children that are needing help with their education the church meets here in the building on a regular basis from healthy cooking classes to a running club that meets every sunday morning they have a lot of fun with their community the center's activities have allowed them to build strong partnerships and even friendships with government officials an opportunity has arisen for us to partner with the religious affairs committee of vietnam and we are teaching english there on in their building to 28 of their staff members [Music] all the way from receptionist secretaries to the top of the religious affairs committee through these activities the center's workers and volunteers hope to be a shining example of christ's method of ministry they want to share and introduce christ's love to everyone without this purpose this building is only a building like any other the center of influence is just that it's a place to provide influence a place that influences the community it's a place that provides space and opportunity for the church to to meet and mingle with people to build relationships friendships to to build trust and to win their confidence and when the opportunity arises to offer them a relationship with jesus christ with growing demand for their services this ministry is also facing some serious challenges but the challenges are are real it's a city of 9 million people the church here in the hanoi area is small so we don't have a lot of manpower to to draw from in working the center of influence here we need volunteers to fulfill the calls that we have out we need volunteers from the local church to partner with us in the ministry we have calls out for international volunteers to come we have not had a lot of response from that yet and so we're still needing people to come and do ministry here from abroad despite challenges and setbacks god is still using his workers to bless others some of the students in the center's english class have gotten a glimpse of christ's character through their teachers they are all really patient yeah really really patient that's what i cannot see in some other you know language center or something uh i feel refreshed because the teacher here you know that they is friendly generous and they try to close their student here to see people come to the language classes and then they they start coming to church and you know that god is at work that he is doing things god can work miracles so we're looking forward to seeing what he has in store for us please pray for this urban center of influence in vietnam pray so that the lord of the harvest will open hearts and send more laborers to this place if you feel impressed to serve visit vividfaith.org to browse open calls from around the world please support projects like this through global mission good morning unhappy sabbath welcome to our sabbath service hosted by the pathfinder club of arima church we at this time we invite you to bow your heads with us assume a position of pray as we about enter into our lesson review for this week the heavenly father we thank you for yet another opportunity to study over it as we discuss uh the points within the lesson this week we ask that you be with us that your presence be here that go to everyone who is in view for an airshot of this service today we thank you for answering our praying jesus name amen this morning with me is watson and she will be discussing the lesson with us this week we will be studying the inverse lesson so the inverse lesson this week was entitled when things go bad when things go bad and as we know throughout this quarter we have been studying the topic of sexuality and good and we have reached on the topic now of divorce when things go bad after we have entered into that institution of marriage that god has intended to use to build our characters heaven now the pharisees had approached jesus in matthew chapter 19 and they posed this question to him can a man put away his wife for anything and christ directly answered them saying a man is supposed to leave his mother and cleave onto his wife and the boat shall be one flesh there is nothing after that that is supposed to be separating them because he the two are supposed to be one however we don't live in a perfect world we live in a sinful world and even among our congregation we know that divorce exists so we will be discussing a little bit today about what sets the precedent sorry for divorce and how we can go about saving or remedying some of the ills that occur in our marital relationships so that we would not have to try to take that end to the marital union today we have we are talking about things that can go wrong now the the question came up with the pharisees and jesus he answered and he said that the only thing that we should be divorced for is adultery and that was the only thing now we have some some conditions that may apply in addition to that and you want to share with us what some of those might be well some of the conditions that would apply to the ending of the marriage as we would see and actually the only condition listed here in the bible is that of adultery and what christ was saying and paul went on to even discuss it in 1st corinthians chapter 7 is that the lord hates divorce but because marriage is a joining of two persons to become one flesh in the instance of adultery another party separates those two and it comes as if they are breaking that union of being one flesh by interjecting another person there and therefore that is the only thing that breaks the marital union however we see here that there are other things that lead up to the ending of our marriage for instance we saw that unforgiveness is one of those situations unforgiveness where because one has been hurt deeply because of that intimate connection and the vulnerability that they shared with that individual elites the resentment and the resentment comes and brings a wedge between the two of them so we are talking about forgiveness but now that's why i bring an analogy in terms of the separating so the it's in the lesson and it's talking about ungluing and to unglue something to unstick something to separate something is something that is possible it can happen but if i stick something together and i use crazy glue i could separate it but when it is separated it will not be the same as it was before so it would have it may not separate exactly where it joined so it might have piece of the other attached it going along with it i know this is the same when it comes to a divorce because our marriage is a union the two becomes one and when we have sexual relations with someone we are joining with that party so it's not just a physical act but it's actually a spiritual act and this is designed for persons who are married for this said purpose and with us being in our world where um having been casual sexually is something that might be normal in some circles we still believe in the principles of the bible that it is not acceptable in god's eyes and we live by this i mean we are bible keeping adventists and we strive to live by this every day well i like how you use that analogy of the ungluing and you know just to double a little bit and forgiveness the disciples would have posed that question or how many times should i forgive someone is it seven times i mean seven is the number of completion and christ said no seventy times seven you should not be keeping count and you know that's a major thing that we see but i like how you even went on to touch about the casualness of sexual intimacy that's occurring and how its sexual intimacy was designed for marriage because an interesting thing one of the authors would have shared in the lesson is that the devil tries to get those who are unmarried to engage in the sexual act and tries to keep those who are married from engaging in the sexual act and you have said that that is what helps to glue the two persons together oh yes but i would just like to add to that and say that because or i should say in keeping with the biblical principles an unmarried couple while dating or quoting would not have entered into the sexual relation and therefore there would have been other things that would have contributed to them wanting to enter into the marriage union so in the marriage union if there's an abstract absence of sexual intimacy then i can suggest that something else is wrong or lacking or dying with any marriage that would have first interested them and is affecting the thing that is holding them together well persons would have gone through different experiences and if someone quotes for and nowadays we people tend to quote for quite a long time because of various reasons pursuing education or pursuing a career and so on so the court in time period has been extended then it would have been maybe 20 years ago so now the court in time will allow for persons to go through a lot more experiences together so they would have some more time to get a nerdy person and see them in different circumstances how they may react under pressure how they may react if they are in a unfavorable situation they're not getting away you can see how they would behave if they are getting their way if they have some sort of power and so on and the list goes on and on so in this regard this here would be able to give someone a proper gay roster do i i intend to spend the rest of my life with this person i i noticed some red flags and if the answer to this after who won pray and praying fast and the answer came back as yes then i believe that forgiveness is a must but no forgiveness comes but forgiveness sometimes according to the situation it would be more difficult in some circumstances right so let's just say you get home from work and somebody eat the food that you had in the fridge you come home and you on your way home you study in this food and you wait and do all day now you'll get angry because you're hungry and you're expecting it to be there but you will be a little more willing to forgive this person as opposed to if you were to share something very personal and dear to you and then someone were to turn around and and threw it back at you then it might be a bit harder to forgive in that instance correct because they in this instance we are feeling betrayed as opposed to somebody just eating food that was upsetting but it wasn't so much a betrayal you know as you said that persons take different times to forgive etc you know we say that just forgive and forget and we feel like that's it right there but sometimes what if the person is doing the same thing over and over again then that's where you're being tested and that brings me to the point of marriage has been instituted to help develop your character and in the institution of marriage according to the adventist home it can either set you up for your life in heaven or it can cause you to be lost that's how serious it is it can cause you to be lost and when considering the aspect of divorce we need to consider that aspect right there if we two persons who have been married have come to the decision because marriage is supposed to be between two consented persons these two persons want a union and they wanted to work and it is the same way divorce they cannot force the next person to stay with them if they don't want to and the lesson brought that out if that person does not want to stay a form of reconciliation is still supposed to occur where there is no resentment being held towards that spouse because in the eyes of god even if they are legally divorced if no adultery took place they are still married and that's a big thing there they are still married in the eyes of god so for that individual there has been some counsel given especially in terms of if that person has been married to an unbelieving spouse who wishes to leave in first corinthians 7 paul is saying that if you are married to the unbelieving spouse but they are willing to be with you then stay because that union could help sanctify that person and bring them to christ again we see in the salvific aspect of the character building in marriage and by that too if they are children in the union they are made holy however every person decides this is not for them then you cannot obligate that individual to stay with you they are free to go and in that sense there is no adultery or anything being committed by the spouses marriage is not a union between two persons but it's actually a union between two persons and god ah correct so there are three entities in our marriage or at least there should be and in our in our circle we of course we have and a family a marriage group i mean i've never been but you know one day i long to be there so as a church we have things as small as they may be when we look at the entire church and all the things that the church have are just simple activities it's very holistic because we have things for happily married persons and for persons who are not so happily married our pastors are equipped to do constantly correct so we are not left just stranded waiting to fall apart but our pastors are trained in counseling and the difference that we have with our pastors doing counseling as opposed to going to pr therapists we have that aspect of god in this in this counseling and god could fix anything that is true but can't really really fix anything but you know some persons may feel as if there is no hope for them and that is where the enemy gets to slip that deception in where we have a multitude of counselors there is something in store for everyone and that's one of the main aspects as nicole brought us of the should i say the fate that we belong to that's one of the main aspects support but you know we spoke about divorce and i mean a lot of persons may know someone or they may see the ills that occur in marriage and they may say should i not be married especially in this day and age i mean in times past marriage was seen as a form of status for instance in the jewish society brought out in the lesson the man had a certain measure of control over his wife and she was more aligned to something of a possession so you know it was a a status i think of status to have a wife and therefore in his eyes he can decide what to do with her and now we see in this society the more modern society persons are fighting back against this kind of patriarchal system and we are seeing where persons are saying no to marriage because it's a bad thing it's a it's a yoke upon me a burden and you know the disciples strangely enough when christ was speaking with the pharisees and answering their questions on divorce said perhaps people shouldn't get married and christ interjected and he said no some are eunuchs that is not so for everyone and he went on to describe who is a young someone who has been born that way someone who has been made that way or someone who has decided to be a unique for the cause of christ meaning i am a eunuch because i want to spread the gospel to others i am not being a eunuch because i hate the idea of marriage or heaven so in a union and work it out with someone and i found that to be really really interesting for this generation in particular the topic is when things go wrong now there are other things that would go wrong in our marriage and even in a relationship might be with a family member or a really really close friend and sometimes things do go wrong but something that something that can always help is being able to communicate so being able to communicate it allows for two things and it actually assists the both parties one is where you'd be able to express yourself instead of pulling it inside and the other is the person who would have done you wrong or the person that is listening on the other end she would be able to see things from your perspective a little bit because sometimes we have triggers and it will be different for different persons and sometimes even we might court for a long time or we might be friends for a long time we wouldn't know every single thing about the other person and sometimes the triggers would be activated and we would be feeling disconnected from that person and being disconnected in a marriage that leads to disconnection from god correct um i don't know about you but it's if if i am really upset it's difficult to pray and ask god that is the only thing that takes up my brain space if i am upset about something that that is it even if i'm not talking that's in my mind that situation that circumstance and it would might be going over and over but that occupies my mind and i i know some pastors would say that you shouldn't go to bed angry as a married couple and that is as far as i've been told that song advice and it sounds as very good advice i like that and i like how you brought her the aspect that it separates the couple from god now when paul was constantly married couples he mentioned to them that they should not defraud one another with the exception of one thing when they consent or communicate with each other and decide that yes i am going to give you that freedom to pray and fast and that lets us know that praying and fasting is something that's very integral to keeping our marriage together persons having that one-on-one connection with god and if we look at the original design of marriage we see that they are supposed to submit you yourselves one to another that's singulations and then we see in corinthians i believe it is paul is describing the husband being subject unto god and then he is saying that the husband should love the wife as christ of the church and then the wife is subjecting or submitting i should say that subject and submitting herself to her husband and you see that therefore there's this trifold form of communication between god and man god and the lady and then between both of them a nice triangle just like the godhead three in one and that is why the spiritual connection is so important to being part of that glue that you would have spoken about earlier because if the spiritual connection is not there then they both tend to do all manner of crazy things to each other they might actually inflict harm on each other and that brings me to the point i wanted to make about using these same texts that i would have used to inflict harm upon the spouse and then saying well it's not adultery so then there is no grounds for divorce how do we deal with a situation like that now if there's no adultery then i mean the bible is clear that that's the only grounds for divorce so in that instance if the the person decides that they are leaving and the person leaves the person who would find another another companion first that person would actually become an adultery in the eyes of god because in god's eyes and according to the bible they are still married they are still in our union and for no reason according to god even though the courts may say something but we know our our power and our highest power is a heavenly power and if that is the case i'm sorry to say but it really should not be correct and in the instance of what you said with another finding another companion one of the spouses finding another companion the one who has been faithful i would say to the marriage in that instance and hasn't found anyone as yet may say huh well they found a companion maybe i can move on as well but if that is done outside the constraints of marriage it is also adultery right so there's no do for doing this situation it is also adultery you know interestingly enough back then the lesson would have brought out that the pharisees found loopholes to try to get out of marriage they treated it like a contract but we are submitting and we are believing that marriage is a covenant what is in the middle there is the one who is binding them together and therefore a covenant cannot be broken we may at times try to renew the covenant and we would have seen that example of christ saying a new covenant i will make with them but there is no breaking of a covenant that's how we can break the law and i found this interesting scenario in leviticus where he where moses was telling the people how to deal with the idea of wanting to put away their wife because they thought she was committing adultery or doing ill behind their backs with another man and they had a special service they would perform and it's actually called the law of jealousies where they would create a little mixture and do what they will write what were the causes or what were the wrongs that the wife would have done in a booklet and she would drink this mixture and if she was without fault she would be all right and she would conceive see the next time she and her husband engaged in that sexual act but if she was actually guilty it would cause her ballista swell and her tie to rot so it was like an altered representation that she would have defrauded her husband and then in that case he would have been able to say yes i was correct i am not wrongfully accusing you and causing you harm by separating you from the family i'm putting you out because i mean a israelite woman didn't have a job or to be able to afford a house or anything to move on after right it's all under her husband so he would not have been ill-treating her in that instance and we see today that some persons may be struggling with that same issue they may be feeling as if their spouse is defrauding them and they want to know they want to know and there's that the accusation is forming a divide within their marriage but i am submitting to you today that after all we would have discussed here that if we turn to goal he can resolve that situation he can resolve that situation and he can provide the guidance that is needed it is certainly a clear example that we should not be a person should not be just accusing somebody of doing something um just because i mean sometimes intuition might be correct but it's not good and it's not godly to just accuse somebody of doing something and with the god in the middle everything comes fought the truth is always always revealed and something that i think should mention is even outside of marriage the devil he always tries to get us humans to do the opposite of what god wants correct he always tries and naturally it might be easier to fall into that trap but today i pray that we do not fall into that trap i pray that we do as god wants us and not the opposite any closing thoughts well i would just like to leave a little snippet of the insight from this week and it's a reading from adventist home and she says jesus came to our world to rectify mistakes and to restore the moral image of god in man wrong sentiments in regards to marriage and had found a place in the minds of the teachers of israel they were making of non-effect the sacred institution of marriage man was becoming so hard-hearted that he would for the most trivial excuse separate from his wife or if he chose he would separate her from the children and send her away this was considered a great disgrace and was often accompanied by the most acute suffering on the part of the discarded one christ came to correct these evils and his first miracle was wrought on the occasion of marriage i believe we remember that turning the water into wine before he began his ministry right and he announced to the world that marriage went kept pure and undefiled is a sacred institution and i would like to leave on that note that marriage is a sacred institution so when things go wrong and at times things will go wrong because of our human nature we need to remind ourselves that it is a sacred institution and the one who makes things sacred can rectify the bad situation amen and i want to leave us with one passage of scripture proverbs 3 which is 35 and it reads let not mercy and truth forsake thee bind them about thy neck write them upon the table of thine heart so shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of god and man trust in the lord with all thine hearts and lean not unto thine own understanding and verse 6 in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy parts amen so as we leave this morning we pray that god will direct our parts those of us who are not yet married and those of you who are we pray that god continue to be with you in your union and those of us who are not yet we pray that your decision is god led and that you find a happy marriage and that god will be the center of it all we thank you for sharing with us this morning for any further you can always go to invoicebible.org for the entire lesson that we would have discussed this week until next adventure club that she could join in her hometown of vladivostok russia but she couldn't find a club then her mother learned about pathfinders a group of pathfinders organized a holiday party at the special needs school where mother worked and she was impressed i think this club is exactly what you have been looking for mother told nastia call them but nastia was busy with school six months passed and the pathfinders returned to the school to hand out pizzas to the children mother told them about nastia and they invited nastia to come to their club the only one in the city nastia enjoyed the pathfinder meeting and happily accepted an invitation to go to a pathfinder summer camp finally she would be able to go on a campout on the last day of the camp a sabbath a woman was baptized in a river nastia was moved by the sight and a desire swelled up in her to be baptized as well when can i get baptized she murmured speaking to no one in particular as she watched the baptism her camp counselor was standing nearby and overheard which city are you from she asked i'm from vladivostok nastia said the camp counselor told nastia that she needed to speak to the adventist pastor from vladivostok and pointed to him he was the man who had just baptized the woman when can i get baptized nastia asked the pastor which city are you from he asked i'm from vladivostok nastia said you're from vladivostok he exclaimed with surprise there was only one adventist church in vladivostok and he had never seen nastia in church he couldn't understand how this 13 year old girl who had never attended church wanted to be baptized nastia explained how she had ended up at summer camp and now wanted to be baptized you need to attend baptismal classes the pastor said it also would be nice if you attended church after summer camp nastia had only one goal to be baptized she went to church every sabbath at 6 pm every sabbath she went to the pathfinder club many sabbaths she ate lunch at the pastor's home she became especially good friends with his elder daughter anna who was two years older one sabbath anna surprised her with a new bible and nastia studied on her own after six months nastia started baptismal classes and she finished them in two months she was ready to be baptized nastia was baptized at the same summer camp where she had first wanted to be baptized i found answers to all my questions in the bible and i am thankful to god she said part of the 13th sabbath offering three years ago helped construct a new building for nastiest church in vladivostok thank you for supporting the adventist church in vladivostok with your mission offering and prayers [Music] in the infantry ride in the calvary shoot the artillery i may never do more the enemy but i'm in the motionless the early morning priest had begun to play gently with the edges of his room but he did notice his eyes were fastened on the camp the huge cam of the children of israel spread out on the plane for 40 years god had used moses to lead these people he had led them to all kinds of angels god had blessed moses and performed wonderful miracles to him the red sea had parted to let the people go across under waters returned just in time to save them from the egyptian army in anger moses used his yard to strike europe and pure drinking water had poured out moses regretted that striking the rock he knew that lord said that speaking would be enough because he disobeyed moses would not come would not cross in over into the new land he must say goodbye to his people this side of the jordan at first moses pleaded with god sovereign lord let me go over and see the good lamb but god speaks won't blame me that is enough do not speak to me anymore about this matter deuteronomy 3 24-26 moses accepted what god wanted then god made an offer to ease up the old man's disappointment go up to the top of pisces and look at the lamb god sent sentence you are not going to cross the stroller deteriorate 327 sadly moses started watching the tents of israel his beloved people were just waking up many of them were violently excited about crossing the jordan river but some were afraid moses shook his head and a little smile glue on his lips this had to be the most stubborn group of people in the world and he loved them everyone then god's love english but showed moses that what to do he must write a book that book has become the fifth book of the bible which we call deuteronomy in this book he would write about god's miracles on love and leading he would include the ten commandments and give a message to help the people stay true to their forever friend [Music] moses knew that the lord was about to give them cities already built he was going to give them houses full of good things the lord would provide wells of water for them that they had none dug the vineyards and the olive trees they had not planted all the lord asked for that was that they love him but the children of israel could easily forget where these blessings had come from moses knew remember to love the lord with all your heart and soul and strength he wanted to shout he wanted to shout if they would only do that if they would only do that if they would only tell others the people could remember god the children would grow up to know him if they would keep telling god's story over and over they must tell it they must talk about the lord and pray and praise him at every day at home at work and when they were traveling and when they were resting that was the key and god was and it was so simple keep loving god keep telling his story and that is what god asks of us today keep loving him and keep telling others about our wonderful goal and the message is god is worthy of our worship would like to welcome you to arima sda's pathfinder d bow your heads with me as we say a short prayer heavenly father we come before you this morning thanking you for this opportunity to preach this word to your people i humbly ask that this message reaches the right people heavenly father bless this program and help it to run smoothly in your holy precious name i pray amen our sermon today is entitled i will go the scripture reading for today is taken from first samuel 17 and verse 32. it says david said to saul let no one lose heart on account of this philistine your servant will go and fight him pathfinders brothers and sisters who are joining us today i would like for you for a minute just to imagine you're in the staples center in los angeles california home of the los angeles lakers when one of the most famous prayers lebron ramon james comes out and says i want one of you in this crowd here today to challenge me to our one-on-one no one dares to challenge lebron lebron however one man who have never played basketball before raised this hand and said i will go now come with me it come with me to the battlefield let us analyze the dimensions of a warrior who is challenging god's people his name as you guessed it is goliath and has two surnames the terrible giant and broken boons the personal record up to this point is that he has never lost a single match and anyone who has dared to fight goliath has never fought again goliath was extraordinarily tall even by today's standards the bible tells us his height was six cubits and once fan his quartz scale has his coat of scale armor of bronze weighing 5 000 shickels and the iron blade of his spear weighing 600 shickles he was from rapha and may have been a mercenary soldier from the philistine army who wants to fight goliath now no one wants to die young and leave their family childless incidentally in previous two competitions there is no one willing to play against lebron and cristiano but whoever faces the giant goliath king saul promises to give them one of his daughters per wife even with this offer nobody was interested and now 40 entire days have passed but a young man who has never put on a military uniform who has never fought in battle who had not who knew nothing about giants stood up and said i will go you remember the examples i gave at the beginning well this was bruce everyone who was on the battlefield said this was sure debt to make a decision of that magnitude we have to review david's record before the battle that is where the key lies before you go you have to meet with god the warrior that god desires to send what is he or she doing our first point today is before reaching the battle he make sure that god has been with him and he has been with god in first samuel verse chapter 17 and verse 37 it says the lord who rescued me from the poor of the lion and the poor of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this philistine in the vision of psalm 5 and verse 3 it says in the morning of the lord you hear my voice in the morning i lay my requests upon you and wait expectantly david's preparation did not begin with that great battle it began alone home with god and those small spiritual and physical victories prepared him for the great challenges he later faced can i have an amen from someone today our second point the warrior called by god is humble and yet obedient first samuel chapter 17 34 and 35 says but david said to saul your servant has been keeping his father's sheep when a lion or a bear came and carried off your sheep from the flock i went after it struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth when it turned on me i seized it by its here struck it and killed it as we look at this text here today david's assignment was to care for sheep while his brother shone in the king's army but david made a great decision that d as long as the sheep were in his arms he would fight with god's help and not lose a single one of those sheep many times we want to reach lofty goals with little to no effort and that is not in god's plan the only formula to success is god plus effort plus perseverance equals success in first samuel 17 verse 17 and 18 it says now jesse said to his son david take this offer of roasted green and these 10 loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp take along these ten cheeses to the to the commander of their unit see how your brothers are and bring back some assurance from them david is a shepherd and errant boy but that does not limit his efforts to do his best and in the third point of my summer it says the warrior must bring god to the camp david said in first samuel 17 and verse 26 who is this uncircumcised philistine that he should defy the armies of the living god israel army had 40 entire days talking about this giant david wanted nothing to do with that david decided he wanted to talk to god david went and immediately began talking to god about this giant our fourth point today the warrior is not afraid if god is at their side in 1st samuel 17 26 it says david asks the man standing near him what will be done for the man who kills this philistine and removes this disgrace from israel who is this philistine that he should defy the armies of the living god in verse 32 david said to saul let no one lose heart on account of this philistine your servant will go and fight him psalm 125 verse 1 says those who trust in the lord are like mount zion which cannot be shaken and endures forever brothers and sisters if you are suffering from any illness have any money problems attempted to cheat tempted to drink just know god is at your side reach out to god today and he will tell and he will protect you and help you to stay away from those bad things in point five the warrior who goes in the name of the lord does not hear the negative voices verse 33 says saul replied you are not able to go out against this philistine and fight him you are only a young man and has been and he has been a warrior from his youth verse 37 the lord who rescued me from the poor of the lion and the poor of the bear would rescue me from the hand of this philistine david says no saul said to david go and let the lord be with you david doesn't say i think he'll deliver me david says he will deliver me david is sure that he will be victorious dear pathfinders brothers and sisters i want to tell you today a story of a great person who fought like a true warrior i haven't heard of him maybe you haven't heard of him but let us learn about him today his name is jackie robinson his hidden style his speed the security of his glove everything seemed to indicate that he was the player who would make his team win he had only one problem the color of his skin since 1892 african americans were prohibited from playing in the united states professional baseball league but brats ricky wanted jackie to play for the the for the dodgers as a christian ricky was willing to do his part to break down the racial barriers faced in that day's society ricky knew that hiring an african-american carried many risks for the player because for the player throughout the season he would receive insults death threats but far bad balls from pitchers attacks even from his own teammates the issue was not whether the dodgers would have the courage to hire the player but whether the player would have the matter to pay the price for breaking the rules of the society eaten up by racism when ricky presented him with the wrist the player asked do you want a black man who does not respond to attacks ricky taught for a moment and replied i want a player who has enough guts not to react to the attacks that the player that was needed the player that was needed was one that would demonstrate a virtue that seemed to be on the way to extinction humility jackie agreed and on april 15 1947 he became the first african-american to play in the baseball major leagues robinson knew how to handle attacks and during his career he showed the width he showed that wisdom and honor accompanied the humble in the first season he was awarded the rookie of the year award two years later he won the title of the most valuable player can i have her airmen brothers and sisters in addition he participated in the world series six times and was inducted into the cooperstown hall of fame solomon was not wrong when he said to receive honors one must first be humble proverbs 15 verse 33 ranked talk of matteo declared we come nearest the great when we are great in humility if we really want to go far on this earth and we are and in the upcoming one let us try to put into practice the following council from paul be humble and kind and bear patience and soothe one another with love ephesians 4 verse 2. point number six the warrior fills his mouth with god and his word let us look at what david says about god in his conversation with goliath verse 45 says but i come against you in the name of the lord god almighty the ah the god the god of the armies of israel who you have defied verse 46 the the dead the lord will deliver you into my hands i would strike you down cut off your head this very day i would give the carcasses to the philistine army to the birds and the wild animals and the whole world will know that there is a living god in israel all those gathered here will know that there that this is not by sword or by spare that the lord sees for the battle is the lord and for the battle is the lord and he will give you all into our hands david's mouth is full of god god is even mentioned six times in their conversation point number seven the warrior who does not play with evil he cuts off its head verse 51 says david ran and stood over him he took hold of the philistine sword and drew it from its sheet he killed him and cut off its head with the sword if you are willing to respond to the call and say i will go what should you do if you are willing to say i will go make sure you have had that encounter with god if you are willing to if you are saying i will go stay humble and obedient to his word if you are saying i will go today brothers and sisters be sure to keep the lord's commandments there are three groups there are three groups in the world we live in today first are the soldiers secondly there's the king both of these groups in 40 days decided not to get up and they did not put god first and the giant defeated them and then there's the group of deed that represents david this group rises in the name of god almighty and claims victory can i have a hallelujah on this worship today i pray that we all that we all find ourselves in david's group god wants to get up and go out to fulfill his mission but first we must do what he most desires in us for us to have an encounter with him before you go you have to come to meet god how many wish to have a real encounter with god that will prepare us to say as david said your servants will go if you feel the burning desire please reach out to the bible team here at arima7day adventist church reach out via the live chat send that email make that call
