he said to his disciples let us go over to the other side leaving the crowd behind they took him alone just as he was in the boat and there weren't also other boats with him and a furious squall came up and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped and verse 38 says that Jesus was in the stern sleeping on the cushion and the disciples came to him and woke him up saying teacher don't you care if we drown the Bible says that he got up thank you Lord he got up and he rebuked the wind and said to the waves quiet be still then the wind died down and it was completely calm and he said to his disciples why are you so afraid do you still have no faith then and they were terrified and asked each other who is this even the wind and the waves obey Him you may be seated in the very presence of a lord in verse 38 the Bible says in the midst of this furious storm the Bible says that Jesus he was sleeping on the pillow and the disciples came to him and woke him up saying master carest thou not if we perish teacher do you care if we drown but when you look at the posture of Jesus in verse 38 even in the midst of the storm he's sleeping on a pillow with that thought in mind I want to preach to someone as the spirit shall guide from these words peace in the midst of a storm this has been blessing people all day long and it's somebody in the building you really need to hear this word and I would that you would help me preach by turning to the person beside you looking him or her in the face and say neighbor you could have peace in the midst of your stone hey man you didn't you didn't say it like you knew that it was true I need you to help me because you really don't know really don't know who you're sitting beside you you really don't know y'all hearing me today you really don't know what the person is going through they could be dressed up on the outside they could have a smile stuck on their face they just got the hair down and they look like they don't have a care in the world oh but if you can just follow them home so what that you would help me one more time just in case turn to the person beside you want to say neighbor I don't know what storm you're in but you could have peace in the midst of your storm come on let's give God praise in this house for that cause you made me see that dr. Gordon he done who was the former director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami he was once overheard thanking God for hurricanes and when the people overheard that dr. Dunn again who was over the national hurricanes and there in Miami thanking God for hurricanes they questioned why he would do such a thing and then he began to explain to them that without an occasional storm the world's weather system would literally be out of balance dr. Don stated that when the fierce tropical storms that the fierce tropical storms play a vital part in maintaining the heat balance between the tropics and the polar regions in other words it is his premise that without the existence of hurricanes our atmospheric conditions would thus be out of balance and by my own admission while dr. Dunn's comments were made exclusively and specifically relating to the atmospheric storms I believe that the same premise holds true as it relates to the storms in our lives I believe that the stormy weather that we have to face they add balance to our lives I believe that when God allows us to go through trials and tribulations that those trials and those tribulations are designed to allow our spiritual equilibrium if you will to maintain its steadiness I've learned to thank God for storms because the existence and the presence of storms in our lives they they've proven to be beneficial they keep our head out of the clouds talk to me somebody storms have a way of keeping us putting our trust in God storm storm storms are our needful storms allow us to walk through life knowing that we can't make it without the Lord is there anybody in this building besides me that can now look through the rearview mirror of your life and now see how that storm brought you through can anybody look through the rearview mirror of your life and you didn't think Sophia but now that you've come through you learned how to thank God for the stone because it was the presence and it was the existence of those stormy like conditions in your life that torture character that taught you press evarin's it was those stormy nights when there was nobody but you and the Lord it was those stormy nights when you were walking the floor all by yourself I'm talking to somebody it was those stormy days when you were drinking tears for water now that you've come through and looked through the rearview mirror of that situation you thank God for the storm because it built you into the woman though a man of God that you're in now and because brothers and sisters storms have in my estimation my conjecture such a positive outcome on our lives I believe that every now and then God allows trouble to come our way just to push us a little bit closer to him hmm it kind of reminds me of the young boy with the makeshift boat who was playing with his boat on the lake and the wind blew and all of a sudden his boat was out of his reach here is this young boy with his little boat on the lake and he can't reach the boat because the wind blew the boat out of his reach he stands there on the shore contemplating how he's going to get his boat back instantly an idea hit him he reached down grabbed some rocks took a rock and threw it right beyond the boat and the waves the ripple effect that the rock made with the water began to bring the boat a little bit closer to the shore he took another rock and threw it just beyond the boat and the waves and the ripples of the war that brought the boat a little bit closer he was on to something to some more rocks and kept throw-in the rocks in front of the boat until the ripples and the waves have brought the boat back close enough to the shore for him to grab the boat and that's what the Lord does for us the Lord he throws trouble in our lives and that troubled the ripple and the waves of the trouble others Iying to push us a little bit closer to him he'll throw unemployment yeah talk to me somebody he'll throw trouble he'll throw sickness just in front of you I'm talking to somebody he'll throw confusion right in front of you and those ripples are designed to just bring you back a look am i talking to anybody do I have any testimonies from folk in the building that can say it was trouble that got you back in church oh don't you look like you ain't never been laughs don't look like you've never drifted away and treble whip your behind and got you back in your household got your back I guess I've preached it I guess I'll confess I'm not too holy to admit I'm not to save to admit that I've gone astray and God have to throw some stuff right in front of me and let the whip rules and the waves that travel the bringing me back to him and now that I'm back closer to him I've made up in my mind I'm never going back again can I talk to somebody in this house that that's why some of us from become the church we can praise God because God didn't bring us out instantly God didn't bring us out overnight that God took his time in delivering us took his time in bringing us out and because he took his time in bringing us out we know first and how much hell we call just to get back so we made up an hour man we never going back are you hearing me and this concept of stormy weather this this view of trouble in our lives is the canvas upon which our shamanic presentation is painting upon today when you look at this particular text the gospel writer mark has pictured Jesus as being very busy in the day in fact if your Bibles are open and go back and look at this entire chapter mark pictures Jesus as sharing for different parables between verse 3 through 34 and interestingly enough all four parables that dealt with the kingdom of God he opens with the parable of the sower the parable of the lampstand the parable of the growing seed and the parable of the mustard seed the hidden meaning behind all four parables rather allows the kingdom of God and the church say the kingdom of God however in verse 35 Jesus now is getting ready to set sail for his next assignment which is on the other side of the lake he is retreating from the responsibility of pouring into his people he is desirous at the time of our texture to pull away to alone with his disciples before the next assignment on the other side of the lake however between verses 35 through 41 stay with me the Bible says that something happens between going from one side of the lake to the other side that Jesus has a desire with his disciples to travel from one side of the lake to the other side this lake was only ten miles wide at its maximum point and so therefore the trip wasn't a long trip however the Texas clear and saying that by the time Jesus gets from one side of the lake to the other side of the lake the Bible says a storm arise please don't miss this brothers and sisters because the Bible suggests to us that given the short distance that Jesus had to travel from one side of the lake to the other side of the lake and a storm suddenly arising that speaks to the fact that it does not take long for storms to pop up in our lives it does not take long for trouble to start knocking on your door it doesn't take long for your situation to change in fact so much could happen to us are y'all hearing me so much can happen to us from the rising of the Sun to the going down one of the same you can leave your house going to work in the morning and the sky of your situation this crystal blue but by the time you get back home your whole world could be turned upside down the Bible says when you look at this narrative that before Jesus can get to the other side of the lake the Bible says a storm arose and for the next few moments I want us to dissect this storm I want us to look at this storm I want us to look at this trouble because I'm here to let you know that trouble is a mighty good teacher am i talking to anybody you you you can learn lessons by looking at your or you can learn lessons by looking at your trouble in fact some of the best lessons I learned were lessons I learned in hard times some of the best lessons I learned were lessons I learned in troubled situations some of the best lessons I've learned were in times why we're drinking tears for water some of the best lessons I've learned for time is when I felt that God had left me all by myself because you really don't know who your friends are until you go through trouble I guess I've preached in myself you really don't know who you can trust until you've had some adversity you really don't know what you're made of until your faith have taken that I hear you you really don't know how powerful your praise is unless your praise has been put to the test in fact there's some of y'all right now you really have not been tested yet because you ain't gonna do nothing but there's some of us in the building when we stand up and declare that God will make a way we're not saying that because we know the words but baby we're saying that because we've been in some situations and we didn't know how we were going to get through and we did learn that until we've had some trouble and so for the next few minutes if y'all can just put up with me I want to unpack this text and this that's act the storm that the disciples are in there are four truisms that we learned by looking at this storm first of all in verse 35 if your Bibles are still open the first thing that we learn by looking at this storm is that you can have storms even when you are obeying the voice of God gosh I feel like preaching you you can have storms even when you are walking in total obedience because when you look at verse 35 the Bible says in verse 35 that Jesus said that let us go over to the other side and the Bible says in the very next verse that the disciples are sent away the multitude and dear that what the Lord said do however in spite of doing what the Lord said do the Bible says that that the boat still ended up in a storm oh god y'all better hear me if you don't understand this concept that you're trouble that's not always predicated on disobedience it might mess up your relationship with God you got to understand that you can dot every I and cross every T and still find yourself in a stormy situation you can do everything that the I'm appreciate anyhow you can do everything that the Lord requires you to do and still have swaboda in your life all suffering it's not tied to sin I in fact that the signpost felt that way in John chapter 9 the Bible says in John 9 when the disciples were walking with Jesus Christ they see this young man who the Bible says was blind from birth and the disciples asked Jesus in John chapter 9 around verse 2 or 3 Lord who sinned this man or his parents and Jesus said neither have sinned meaning nobody have sinned for this to take place but this has happened that God can do a mighty work in his life can I talk to somebody in this house I'm talking to somebody who's trying to figure out why you're like this experienced a stormy weather you're trying to figure out why you're going through turbulence you're trying to figure out why is a storming in your life but you've done everything the Lord has told you to do I want to suggest maybe you're suffering because of you were disobedient but maybe you were suffering because of you were obedient maybe you are suffering because of God wants to manifest himself in your situation maybe you were suffering because God wants to show you who he really is because you will never know that God is a doctor if you ain't never been sick you never know that God is a weight maker if you're never lost you will never know that God is kill Wi-Fi if you never cry and so I will learn how not to scratch my head when I'm in suffering seasons I've learned to tell it all joy when I fall in the divers Tim takes us knowing this that's a walking of my friend the trial of my faith it's producing am i talking to anybody am i talking to anybody in this house of whoo now to look at your suffering with a different perspective that now you don't ask yourself why but whenever you are suffering you learn how to throw your hands up and give God praise knowing that God is going to get maximum glory can I help somebody in this house and so the first thing the first thing brothers and sisters that this stone I hope you're giving this is teaching us is that you could find yourself in a storm even when you do everything the Lord says do secondly in verse 36 this storm teaches us that you could have storms even when Jesus is in your boat priest pastor Jackson the Bible says in verse 36 that they took him along just as he was know brothers and sisters when the disciples got in the boat they did not get in the boat by themselves but the Bible says that when they got in the boat they took Jesus in the boat with them and even though they took Jesus in the boat arethey the Bible says that they still have had stormy weather can I talk to somebody there's somebody in the building today you are of the misnomer that as long as the Lord is with you everything will be how they healthy but the truth is the fact the truth is this brothers and sisters that's the presence of Jesus Christ that's not trouble from coming but the presence of Jesus Christ guarantees that the wind trouble comes up he'll step in the midst richer I guess I'll preach to myself you see every now and then I go back fortune and I read the Book of Daniel and I look at chef right Meshach and Abednego and even though the Lord was with fear they hidden them from going into the fiery furnace but the tax said that when they were thrown in the furnace the Lord had got in the mix with him am I talking to anybody in this house today who has the testimony that the Lord was with you and even though he was with me you still have to catch some hell but in the midst of catching hell he was right there can I talk to somebody over here that can testify that because the Lord was with you he didn't stop you from going through trouble but when you got in trouble the Lord was a trouble bearer with you you mother help me give God praise in this house if you know without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord will be with you by the way the minute but wait a minute keep looking in the text because we discovered that this storm amen they had storm stormy weather even though they obeyed the voice of God even though Jesus was in the boat but thirdly in verse 37 through 40 we discover that you can have stormy weather that can shake the very fabric of your faith there's a storm out there that can shake your faith oh I know I'm talking to folk today and you look like you're unshakable I'm looking in your eyes and you look like a man that's your faith it's just unshakable you look like you're so strong Amen somebody you look like you're Freight that's just unmovable but can I suggest to somebody in this house today that that God can allow you to go through something that will shake that be holy hear me shake the very fabric of your fate I'm reminded of John the Baptist John the Baptist went through a situation so catastrophic that he sent his disciples to Jesus Christ to ask him are about the Christ or shall we look for another and I want to suggest to somebody in this house that you are not to a strong in your word that something can happen in your life that will make you doubt whether or not God is really on your side you you're not so erudite in scripture that you can have a situation to come up that will make you question whether or not God really loves are you here are these disciples and they are wondering they're questioning Lord do you really care this storm teaches us I all still with me this storm teaches us that we can have trouble even when we're obeying God's voice we can have storms even when Jesus is in albo we can have storms that can shake our faith but finally this text teaches us that we can have storms and peace at the same time look at the text the Bible says in the midst of the storm Jesus is sleeping on the pillow and that's what I want to focus on for the next few moments and this text because somebody in the building needs to know that you can have peace in the midst of what you're going through in fact just he'll be neighbor you could have peace come on tell the neighbor you can have some peace well as I looked at this text very quickly as I looked at this text I saw something that jumped out at me because if you're going to have peace in the midst of your storm the first thing that the text is tell it to teach us is that we must remember the promises of Jesus and though this may seem simple but just tell someone close they neighbor remember his promises listen it what the Lord said the Lord said in verse 35 but let us yea go over to the other side yeah that's what Jesus said Jesus says let us yea go over unto the other side Jesus makes these disciples a promise and what's exciting to me is when you look at the promise the text shows us that the promise was said before the problem was seen you miss what I just said with when you look at this text and what shouts me is that the promise was said before the problem was ever seen look in verse 35 verse 35 if your Bibles open it said Jesus says let us go over to the other side but in verse 37 the Bible says that the storm arose it is interesting that the storm doesn't arise until verse 37 he gives them the promise Oh y'all kind of severe he gives them what they need before they need what he gave them Jesus does not say what's coming up between this side and the other side all he says is whatever comes up yeah we're going over to the other side okay let me see if I can help you because many of you are listening to these eight words let us go over to the other side I'm telling you it's a promise that the Lord is making to you and and and you're not receiving it because when I look at um these eight little verses eight little words and verse number 35 to me is shouting material are all up in there and so I got to kind of break it down so you can get it listen at what the Lord is saying first of all in verse 35 he says let us and the church say let us when the Lord says let us what he is doing is he is promising you that you don't have to face what you're facing by yourself Oh God when the Lord says let us he's not saying y'all go he's not saying I'll meet you when the Lord says let us he's living that the same ocean no whatever you freaks I'm fixing it with you he's letting the disciples know that whatever it's gonna come up against you it's also coming up against me Oh God y'all he's feelin me I can make it because I gotta love us in my pocket you see he's the reason why the devil hadn't taken me out it's because every time he tries her he's not just going up against me he's going up against who's with me you better understand child of God that when the Lord said let us that tells you that whatever you've got to French you ain't got to fix it by yourself that when you face surgery this sweet he's facing it with you when you go to court he's going to court with you when you stand before your enemies he's standing there with you when you go before the adversary he's going before the adversary with you the Lord said let us I need somebody in this house who know without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord is with you I need about 15 folk in the building who can testify that somebody's a baby that's why I'm still here because the law I'm a preacher in it how I need somebody in this building in French who know that the only reason you got so right man the only reason the devil hadn't taken you out the only reason you hadn't stolen in the town is because you got into us in your pockets you tell your neighbor neighbor I got a knife in my pocket that's why I love the law ain't got to fix it by myself that's why I praise the Lord I don't have to face life by myself I believe I'm talking to somebody right now maybe you had somebody walk out and leave you by baby get let them leave let the doorknob hit him but I lost your dog should have bit him you gonna fit guard up that God will never leave you nor forsake you you somebody that was the closer than a brother Jesus said let us watch this watch this watch this I mean maybe that didn't get you maybe you can't shout about the letter but looking verse 35 he says let us do what somebody just shout go over no okay only telling y'all got that let me see if I can help you understand what the Lord is saying but the Lord is promising you that whatever you're going to deal with it's not going to take you under can I help somebody in this house but when you look at the text I got to show it to you in the text when you look at the text the Bible says that a furious squall came up and the waters broke over the boat watch this so that it was nearly swamp oh you're hearing that the boat it wasn't totally covered up the boat wasn't totally under water because they have a prophetic utterance from the Lord that whatever they have to face they're not going to go under I don't know who I'm talking to but I may be talking to somebody who's up against some opposition you need to tell your opposition listen opposition the Lord has told me I'm not going under I'm talking to somebody right now who's under a lot of pressure and you think that your knees are going to buckle based on the pressure that's you're under but you want to talk to yourself and tell yourself according to the Word of God I'm getting ready to go over a dam 50 folk in the building to get excited over the fact that you cannot drown you cannot go under listen you cannot do less than the word so that you will go over you gotta feed it you gotta see this I've discovered watch this loo I've discovered when I read the Bible that there are motile directions that the Lord will take us some time the Lord takes us around can the church they around when you read the book of Joshua they had to go around the wall without Jericho I oh here bring me some time the lower takes us through can the church say through when you look at Moses in the children of Israel they have to go through the Red Sea then sometime the lower takes us over can the church say over like in this text he says let's go over to the other side however nowhere in the scripture do you ever find the Lord taking somebody under I was a handsome hell no you can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation but nowhere in the back feel like preaching already nowhere in the bible does the Bible ever says that the Lord is taking us under anything so I told the Lord just the other day I don't know how you're going to deliver me I may have to go around some folk I may have to go through some folk I may have to go over some poker but the one thing I'm not going to do is I'm not going to go under I don't have an under spirit I don't have an under anointing I don't have an under assignment I don't have under vision my vision says over I'm going over every opposition going over every trial going over every circumstance and I need somebody in this house up with an overachiever I need somebody in this house up with an overview he went up against Milton's opposition according to the Word of God you are going to get over [Music] going home sit down watch this I want to talk to somebody who feel that's if you can't get over it you've been hurt you've been wounded folk has taken advantage of you but you came to the right service baby because your world is you can get over it in fact if I'm part let me just see who I'm talking to I don't care what happened to you as a child I don't care what the enemy told you I don't care how bad your self-esteem has been you should have stayed home because the mere fact you came to this service of the Lord told me to tell you I hope that you will get over every life get over every hope get over every molestation get over what your mama did over what your daddy did over what the friends did you are an overcomer you can I preach today but wait but wait sit down sit down sit down sit down maybe you couldn't get excited about the letters okay maybe you couldn't shout about the go over part look at what he says he says let's go over where the other the other side the other side I think God I think Duane for the other side because when Jesus says the other side he was subliminally letting his disciples to know that where they are now it's not their final destination you should have gone crazy with when the Lord says the other side he was letting them know that this is not your final destination I need somebody in the frame who knows that you're not where God is going to eventually have you to declare this ain't my final destination I need somebody to let the devil know that if you're living with these your privileges now this is just a layover baby this is natural final destination and if you believe that you go in to the other side because the other side of poverty is prosperity the other side of pain is sure the other side of bad health is total home and if you believe you're going to the other side I need to the slap fire with your neighbor and say neighbor I don't know about you but I'm on my way I'm going to the other side I'm packing my bag if you don't wanna go stay here to the other side [Music] boy Yui filling you in filling me maybe you've been on this ice so long that you can't see yourself maybe you been down so long that you can't see yourself maybe you've been I'm going to have peace in the midst of my storm I got to remember its promises are y'all giving this what what what is his promises his promise is I'm going to the other and and if the Lord says I'm going it's just a matter of time I guess I'll try it one more time for somebody in the balcony if the Lord says I'm going it's just a matter of time therefore I could be standing still and going forward at the same time I know that's kind of crazy but I'm standing still but I'm going forward at the same time because it's just a matter of time before the Lord says I'm going so tell your neighbor neighbor you want to look quick because where I'm at now even be here always he better look here it's a camera phone out take a quick picture because where I'm at now I'm not gonna pick me always I'm on my way to the other side [Music] oh you long I'm almost finished sit down the point is I'm trying to help somebody I want to the have peace in the midst of your Sony you got two points I got to hurry I only have two points if you're gonna have peace in your storm number one you got to remember the promises of Jesus hell you never enable remember his promises however the text also suggests to us that if I'm going low and I feel like preaching have peace in the midst of my storm secondly I got to request the presence of Jesus God somebody just got that you got a requests yes pray ask your neighbor's a neighbor requests his presence here here in the text the Bible says when the storm started raging the disciples went downstairs and woke him up it's in the text I hear preachers who are smarter than I am and they exegete this text and and and they always paint these disciples in the negative connotation that they always accuse them of not having faith and and and it's as if they are portraying these disciples in a negative context and because you're smarter than me I'm not gonna argue with them but all I can say is when I'm in a storm I'm waking him up yeah I guess Hey I guess I'll push them myself I ain't gonna argue with Reverend dr. bishop overseer been in the school I dropped down so I ain't gonna argue with you but but all I can say is when the devil is on my track I'm going downstairs y'all hear me I know that I got some seminarians over here maybe when you preach it you'll push it a different way but asks for me and me help make somebody when the devil is on that track when I'm getting ready to get killed by the devil I you call me what you want to call me I'm going downstairs and I'm going to wait Jesus up and I want to tell somebody right now maybe that's somebody's problem you've been calling everybody else except Jesus maybe you've been leaving on the road Negroes up maybe you've been calling the wrong people but I'm here to let you know that when you need peace in the midst of your storm you better not call Oprah don't call dr. field help me somebody don't call your boo don't call your girlfriend don't call you a spoon Coons a dog your homeboy he better get on your knees and call the name that that name every knee got to Bauer who even Apollo the name of Jesus ugly because somebody in this house knows there's power in the name of Jesus of that the poverty in the name of Jesus that's healing in the name of Jesus I tell you never maybe you wanna wait [Music] give me ten minutes and I'm finished I feel like closing but I gotta share this with you it is interesting it is interesting watch this ludus you got to hear this it is interesting that the Bible says in verse 39 they they they they wake him up I wish I'll keep your Bibles open and verse 39 the text says they go to Jesus Christ and the Bible says and they wake him up and look at em what he does I'm as soon as um he wakes up and the Bible says in verse 39 that when he got up he rebuked the wind yeah I'm he know I feel like preaching he rebuked I'm the wind he would be I'm the wind now know what he did he just didn't talk to the wind um but tech says he rebuked I'm the wind yo y'all got to fill me he just didn't speak to the wind but the text says that he rebuked cancer say it I'm putting emphasis on on the word rebuke because when you look at Jesus Christ through the eyes of the gospel writers 11 times in the New Testament the gospel between Matthew and John it pictures Jesus rebuking something or somebody and it is interesting that every time Jesus rebuked something or somebody it was always the devil or a demonic spirit that Jesus didn't rebuke people in general he didn't rebuke things in general but every time Jesus rebuked something he was rebuking a devil or a demonic spirit and even the one occasion when he looked like he was rebuking a person Peter he said get thee behind me Satan I talked to somebody so every time Jesus rebuked something I'm going somewhere what he was rebuking was that the devil or a demonic spirit are you hearing me so when you look at the text the mere fact that Jesus says the text says he rebuked the wind in verse 39 that means that it was the wind was a a demonic spirit can deter see a demonic spirit now look at what's awesome ears what also means the tech says that he got up he refers to Jesus Christ he means that the vine can the church save the divine now they're too dynamic dichotomies in the text in verse 37 there is the wind which is the demonic spirit in verse 39 there is the divine can the church say that the money and the divine it is interesting that in verse 37 we see that the Monica that the monarch is causing a chaos that the monic has caused the disciples to be afraid the demonic has seized the captive above the ship however in verse 39 that the vine gets up and it is interesting Cheney that that the mullet and the divine and cannot coexist whichever is stronger has to die down and it is interesting that the demonic is seen in verse 37 but in verse 39 that diviner gets up and the divine takes authority over the demonic and as soon as that the Brian takes authority over the demonic in the same verse the Bible says it died that down and it was complete all in human what I'm saying in verse 37 the demonic existed between verse 37 and verse 39 that means that the monic lived that for two verses can deter say two verses but as soon as that the vine showed up in the shame of verse that the monic that you missing what I'm trying to say what I'm trying to say is this that that the money will always be here until Jesus shows up and whenever Jesus shows up that the money got to die that tells me that if the demonic is still in your situation
