hello everyone in this video i'm going to go over the packet tracer 17.5.9 lab for the introduction to networking cisco course in this packet tracer lab we are not keeping score but it is a very important lab because you learn more about the show commands and these are things that you'll end up using when troubleshooting so that you can find out what's wrong with a network and you'll use it in these commands incoming courses in real life so this activity is designed to reinforce the use of router show commands so we're not going to configure things but we're going to see what do these different show commands output so we're going to start off here to connect to isp router click isp pc and then we're going to click the desktop which i'm on right now and then the terminal and you just click ok to get to the command prompt here and i want to hit enter and then type enable to get into privileged exec mode and then we're told use the following show commands to answer the reflection questions in part two and we're just gonna go through these reflection command the reflection questions and i'm going to tell you which ones are good show commands for these so the first one says which commands can you use to determine the ip address and network prefix of interfaces so there are a few that we can use for this let's do this one first so you can see what it outputs let's use show ip route show ip route and notice there's no section down here that says or no words here that say more and here let me make this a little smaller and make this a little wider so take a look at what's output here so i typed in the command right here so the output first starts off with what all the codes mean and this will show up every time and then under here is the details about the router okay so we're looking for um the ip address and network prefix of interfaces so here we've got um this network it's variably subnetted with two subnets and two subnet masks capital c stands for connected network so this first one is a connected network directly connected it says on serial 001 l stands for local and this second one here dot 2 2 6 backslash 32 so we're told what the subnet mask is and that's also directly connected so two subnets here on s001 and then we get to the next network this one right here is variably subnetted with two subnets and two masks and here they both are they're both directly connected and they're both on gigabit ethernet 0 0. so that's what you get when you type show ip route another thing we could use is show interfaces and this one notice at the bottom we have this more little line here and if i hit space i can see more but let's take a look at what it's showing me so here's my command show interfaces and here's where it starts i've got g00 it is up the line protocol is up it is connected and there's all kinds of details about this the internet address we've got all kinds of information what kind of duplex it's running on lots of lots of things here i'm going to hit my spacebar to get even more and there's more about g00 right here and then we switch over to g01 which is down and disabled and here's information about that one but there's more so i'm gonna hit the spacebar again and there's still more uh about g01 up here and then we switch to serial zero zero zero it is down and disabled and i can hit space for more information there's more right here and then serial zero zero one is up and connected and there's information about it right there some details we keep going with that one and then we have vlan 1 is administratively down and there's the first start of that information i'm going to hit spacebar and this is the right this is the whole thing about vlan one okay so that's what you get when you type in the show interfaces let's try show protocols all right i just kept hitting my space bar so here we have show protocols and it's got some of the same information we just looked at it's just less busy if you just want to know some details such as what is showing right here then maybe you just want to have use the show protocol command so those are that's the answer to number one okay let's look at number two then for number two which command provides the ip address and interface assignment but not the network prefix and that one was show ip interface brief okay that's a nice handy one it's used quite a lot here is where i typed that it starts right here okay so show ip interface brief this is what it shows me it's got details about which interfaces are up um ip addresses and the status so those that's a nice handy one that's used a lot okay so that answer is show ip interface brief number three which commands would you use to determine if an interface is up well one of them is this one we just saw it another one is the one that we used further up and that was show interfaces but that had a lot of detail so if you just want to know which things are up show ip interface brief is a quick way to find out we also saw it in the show protocols command so you can use any one of those three all right number four you need to determine the ios version that is running on a router which command would give you this information and there is a show command called show version and here's where i typed it and here's the information that it gives me so the ios version that is running is right here version 15.1 okay so i can hit the space bar and get more information all kinds of stuff here and it ends after three of my screens display so show version for number four number five which commands provide information about the addresses of the router interfaces well some of them we already used one one of them was show interfaces and then show ip interface brief and show protocols we also used in question one show iprout we could also use a new one that we haven't used yet which is show arp and here is where i typed it and there's the answer okay all right number six you are considering an ios upgrade and need information to do or need to determine if router flash can hold the new ios which commands provide information about the amount of flash memory available so we can use show version that was i'll just type it again we just used that one um let's see if we can find that kind of in this mess how much how much space we have so let me hit the space bar and see what we've got um [Music] it shows us how much memory we have here hit space again um [Music] where's the flash memory oh here we go so here's some information about the memory okay another one that we could use let me move down to my command prompt another thing that we could use is show flash let's see what that looks like so here is my command line show flash and here's the output and this is more direct information probably a much quicker way of finding that information than from the other one we typed in where we have to search through all the stuff that we don't need to find the thing that we want all right number seven you need to adjust a router configuration but you suspect that a colleague may also be working on the router from another location which command provides information about the lines being used for configuration or device monitoring so that would be show users and you can see that right now we have zero users other than what's going on right now let me find that show users here's the command and here's the information okay all right number eight you have been asked to check the performance of device interface of a device interface which command provides traffic statistics for router interfaces so for number one it would be show interfaces okay and when you remember we looked at this i think this was the first one we looked at and there's quite a bit of information um about what is going on here's information about packets receive xero broadcasts all these things going on on this one line this is all about gigabit ethernet 0-0 and when i hit the space bar there's even more information about us you get a lot of details and then we move on to gigabit ethernet 01. and if i hit the space bar there would be even more information all right and then number nine customers are complaining that they cannot reach a server that they use for file storage you suspect that the network may have become unreachable due to a recent upgrade which command provides information about the paths that are available for network traffic and that one would be let me space bar out of that that one would be show ip row which we have also used already show iprout here's where i typed the command and then the first part of it here is going to show up every time it defines what the codes mean and then information about paths that are available for network traffic is right here all of this information and then number 10 which interfaces are currently active on the isp router so we could um oh that's just a question which ones are active on the isp router so we've got let's see we have serial zero zero one and we have gigabit ethernet zero zero those are currently active okay that's it for the lab i hope you have a better understanding of show commands
