how's it going everybody out there in YouTube land purple EDC back again with another knife review this time we've got another offering from the fine folks at China's hanging a needy sea and Vespa knives this of course being a Vespa Ripper but it is quite different from any Vespa Ripper we have ever seen previous probably won't be a very long video because there's so few details that need to be gone over from the previous model but the differences that are there are pretty significant the first this amazing double edged grind I am absolutely in love with this blade profile and before you write it off I know what some of you are thinking do that looks like a single edge but it's a double edge and that to me is the beauty of this knife with a dagger grind great blade profile they look amazing but let's fix it they're not very how could I say practical they don't really have a utilitarian purpose that suits most people they're mostly for show and the only real benefit you have to a dagger grind is you just might not have to sharpen it as often because you got two edges to work with instead of one but in this case you really are getting two knives in one you get the traditional blade grind which will do whatever you normally would use it for but for me I do a lot of opening of packages and I do a lot of shipping and receiving and so for me to be able to have either a sheep foot or a warm cliff or a hawk bill it really gives you a different way of going about those cutting tasks and to me to have two different types of edges on a blade is much more practical and purposeful than just having a red dagger blade and this does not disappoint super sharp and just works flawlessly I don't I have not opened a knife yet to confirm anything because I learned the hard way not never to open up a knife until you actually have a chance to review it I learned the hard way with that one best befouled err so I don't go opening these knives until I've actually had a chance to actually use them that way I can make sure that all the information that I'm presenting to you is as the knife was received by me because my method is going to be I'm gonna tear this thing down clean it out use the lubrication or no lubrication that I prefer and that isn't really indicative of how you guys are going to receive it but there are certain things that I would like to know like I had someone ask me if the locking sear on the top was cut away so that the edge did not rub I honestly don't know but I can tell you this I've been using the knife opening and closing it many times and I have not developed any flat spots on the edge so I can't guarantee anything but it would seem to indicate that no matter what the case is that you're not gonna have to really worry about dulling of the edge just from opening and closing it but this is seriously it's just one of my favorite blade grinds to come out from Vespa in a long time and I just think it looks really really classy you know some people have said that it really just looks like a dark star in a short version but it's really not to have that double-edged grind but then they have the two different type of edges in one knife to me it's just killer and unlike the Dark Star they did squeeze a nice carbon fiber inlay on the blade as you can see they've got the Vespa wasp head logo now unlike other premium rippers this does not have a hollow grind it's just not practical on a pod double-edged blade yeah it could be done because yeah we know that other brands are able to get a double hologram on a knife like this but they're usually a hand-ground blade and you need to use an extremely small diameter wheel to get a hollow grind to come off proper when you split the blade down the center and are gonna be working with you know two blade grinds you know instead of essentially what it would be normally one so I don't really see that as a downside the two flat grinds are beautiful and as you would expect from a premium Vespa it is bohler m390 steel and as we have known from testing from other people who review knives that Vespa does use the materials that they claim to use so right now you can get these at a considerable discount when you buy them on th gate order I think even Aliexpress has them on sale I don't want to mention price simply because of the fact that you know that sale is going to be over at some point but with it being right before cyber monday 2019 I figured that it was something that needed to be mentioned because if you want one and you want it at a good price now is the time to act but let's just put it this way you're getting a whole lot of knife for much less money than you would from the competition as usual you've got the beautiful carbon fiber in lanes this one being inlaid into what I can only assume as a clear anodization I mean it yeah it's silver but it feels and looks more like raw aluminum still beautiful I really really love this look the carbon fiber inlay on this one I don't know if it's intentional I do feel just the ever so slight Astrid's it's not completely flush with the handle I don't know if it was intentional unintentional but it's the same way on both sides it's not super noticeable like when you have it in your hand you really don't feel it at all but just to be honest if you were to sit here you can catch your fingernail on the edge of the carbon-fiber inlay but as you can see it doesn't protrude significantly and really for the price and just the sheer amazing carbon fiber that they use these things with no voids it's a very small nitpick that but like I tell you guys I have to tell you everything that I find with these knives good bad or otherwise I just feel like really giving you guys all the information one other improvement that I really liked over the original Vespa ripper premiums that I had gotten the tritium vial that they have used in this button is significantly brighter than any of the tritium vials I have experienced on this knife or in any other products that I have owned that use tritium vials I actually have a friend who has a really nice pistol that's got some tritium night sights on it and the tritium violon this is much brighter even the dot on the side when you're viewing it on the side angle much brighter than even in that gun sight and which to me it wasn't a cheap gun either so a significant improvement you know tritium is not something that's going to glow like a flashlight but I still felt that the tritium used in the original rippers was a little bit on the weak side anybody who felt the same way should be pleasantly surprised by the new update as you could see the anodizing on this is beautiful for the button and the clip I don't know if the color is coming off quite correct in person it's a very [Music] bright turquoise green and on the button he get hues of turquoise green and even a little bit of purple which makes me really happy as you guys would probably imagine just overall I mean when I look at that it to me is like the perfect EDC out the front it's not too large like a combat Troodon style knife it's not too small like a UTX 70 it's very comparable in size to what you're used to seeing from things like the ultra tech and things like the H&K epidemic you get all that all the handle but none of the things that you don't need like giant glass breakers or you know just things that will add to the girth of the actual knife when it's in your pocket but doesn't add anything to the utility to me when it comes down to just having the perfect out the front in your pocket for everyday carry you really can't get something better than this and some people wonder well what's the point of the trillion violin well aside from just being interesting one useful purpose that I've had for it is when I'm you know not so well lit room and I need to find a knife quick for either cutting something open or I just want to have a knife on my person with the lights dimmed or the lights even off you're going to see that tritium viable only and you're good like if you can't find your knife and you want to know where it's at turn the lights off you'll probably find it faster by that little blowing bar in there as you would expect it teems screaming sharp just I really can't say enough good things about this particular knife I've always liked the rippers I've really been a fan of the of the entire series I think the d2 Ripper is one of the greatest values in automatic knives ever because it just really really works well and materials were not cheapened in significant ways you still got a lot of knife for not a whole lot of money but this at the current price especially guys if you like that blade going get in on it now cuz I don't know how many people actually know about these yet but I would think that they're going to be pretty popular especially at the current price action sorry for going a little crazy with that but just to demonstrate that I have not been having any firing issues with this one we know that that can sometimes be a problem I don't know exactly what has been done differently with this knife but it does feel like the mechanism has been refined a little bit with the previous rippers and previous Vespa out the fronts the impression that I got is that almost once the blade entered the handle it hit and there was nothing there was no dead space to catch the end of the blade it almost feels like possibly the Tang was shortened just slightly to give it more of a catch to engage the locking Sears but again I'd have to open the knife to actually confirm that but there is a slightly different feel and this knife has not been finicky in any way there was no cleaning done no nothing you know normally I would at least wipe the blade down but I even that I just wanted no BS no uh no questions at all as far as it being not the way I received it this is exactly how it came out of the package and that's how I'm presenting it to you so I would be supremely confident in this knife the lighter blade seems to just fly with authority but it's not so fast like the other ones with so much weight behind the blade that it bounces off the track or comes back in the handle at all I find that can only usually be a problem if you just oil the crap out of these knives because they really don't need it if you make it too slick the parts fly too fast and it doesn't give the locking seers enough time to actually engage as you can see they're still doing that really nice turbine cut hardware still got a little loop down here if you want to attach a lanyard I've never really been a fan of lanyards but what I do like is that they did it in such a way that you really don't see it unless you get down there and really look for it completely optional great for the people who want it but not disturbing the look of the knife for the people who don't the inlay in the blade is you would imagine is perfectly flush that I would assume is due to the surface grinding after the inlay has already been applied unlike with the handle where you have to get the thickness of the inlay perfect before you inset it into the handle but still even like I said that little bit of a ridge I'm feeling is completely minor and I wouldn't let it deter me from owning this knife at all as you would also expect as with most all Vespa products you get the embossed logo rag for wiping down your knife and in the package you will get a replacement spring a couple replacement screws and the beautiful trial in this case turbine tipped screw tool that right there to me is just a huge huge deal and I've always appreciated that Vespa does this I just it it to me it's just it completes the package to have the tool to service the knife a couple of spare parts to me it's not something that they have to do but it really shows that they care about the product they're confident in your ability to take it apart and service it yourself no meaning to send it back to a fact to have somebody else take care of your med for you and the best thing nobody's charging you an extra fifty to a hundred and twenty dollars for a tool that we all know should have been included in the purchase price this I can promise you guys is going to be in my pocket for a long time I've I've had I have a ton about the front knives I still have high-end up front knives from other brands that make their knives in the USA and you know what I honestly don't even know why I keep them because this is probably gonna render them all safe Queens for the for the remaining future because I just really really like this blade grind and I just find it so useful and really genuinely my favorite Vespa so far as far as their out the front line I would love to see this blade growing on other models if they could do so because it's just it's just awesome you know you really won't have an appreciation for how much you're gonna use that back edge until you get one and go up cutting open a box that way that makes a lot more sense a lot easier but yeah right now sale is great go in there check them out if you like it I would definitely pick them up now while you can I don't know how long they're gonna last at that price that price is probably gonna be going up any day now especially after you know cyber monday closes or cyber week however long they're doing it but that's my take on the new double edged single edged Ripper I really hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do we'll see you guys on the next video
