Overpowered Spells

Fireball nope Fireball at fifth level lightning bolt dude we banned you from those spells you're gonna have to prepare something else pick something from at least under fifth level I don't know try something new but oh wait hang on what is it Goku flavor um oh it's actually really good yeah it looks good like I said uh try something new but my guy we literally ended your Arc like two and a half years ago you're lucky you're still here uh you know there's like new books right with new spells yes but those are balanced hmm the player's handbook is where the real power is first Draft rules from 2014 give me the garbage that's where you find the powerful stuff like loopholes and I swear to God man if you found some broken way to cast a spell that I've overlooked then sleep hmm okay sure roll the d8s I love cast it to fifth level [Applause] oh 82 hit points pretty low considering it could have been 104 but I'll Target 60 one of those points on the mine flare and then the final 21 on three of these goblins what they're like way over here the spell is 20 feet that's four squares all right of course 20 feet how could I be so stupid it's a radius sleep unconscious done you get no turns you thought starting strike was strong yeah well at least the Lich is immune to sleep all all you're right well not if I cast silence oh right silence now we won't be able to talk exactly okay what does that mean oh no no no no no no no no how many of his spams [Applause] [Music] no it's all of them wait it's four well he'll counterspell what that's a real knee slapper I'm gonna goof all my way to silly Town order me a hilarious smoothie you don't think I have what do I do now well you can just walk out of it it's a 40 foot radius hmm what about heat metal yeah I know how that spell Works what if I gave our Paladin a sword but it has a wooden handle or even obsidian an obsidian handle anything that comes into contact with the metal is going to take two the eight sorry up against a 55 d8 fire damage no save 58 plus 2d6 from a great sword plus a third level Smite and oh he could vote his action thundering Smite so 58 fire 2d6 slashing two D6 Thunder and 3d8 radiant damage that's an average of about 54 damage from one attack the max would be like 85. okay okay okay you made your point you can cloud of daggers stop the text of the spell says that the creature takes flashing damages when it enters the Spells area for the first time on a turn to ore starts its third there so as I guess it and at the start of the creature's turn it's going to take an average of 20 damage without a saving throw but upcasted to Fifth and that's 50 damage without a what why you know what let's move away from damage odia Bard yes why don't you cast suggestion to the beholder and tell him to fail his next saving throw okay all right this this one has holes first of all the beholder's saving throw is pretty high second of all suggestion specifies that they can't do something that's obviously harmful fair then be honest with him Bard tell him that I am going to cast a spell on him that is going to make him safe okay but are you lying no so then it seems harmful so he probably doesn't do it then why does this spell supposed to work it's an enchantment spell that's already going to make somebody do something they don't want to do the only specification is that it can't be obviously harmful God okay they'll probably just succeed anyways no it's a nine I cast gash's form on him what you didn't protect him yeah but it's kind of funny like he's a whole Beholder with rays and a Magic Eye code and now he's just gas for the next hour as long as I concentrate like he's effectively in a small prison he's stunned we can all heal prepare we can even short rest like I can't show a rest but the rest of the party could that react maybe get a surprise round that's really dumb no you're dumb you underestimated me you took away my Fireball and now you're going to suffer the consequences only a week DM like you could ever [Music] thank you all the creatures have counter spell now all right
