foreign I didn't really want to do this video as you all probably know if you're watching this I've done a series called overanalyzing Avatar where I talk about everything I've ever wanted to say about the show going one episode at a time so I always felt like this video would be kind of redundant almost like I've already said it all so why would I need to say it again but shorter but I keep getting asked for it and lately I've been thinking well maybe there is some Merit to having all my thoughts laid out in front of me in one little bite-sized video or maybe mouthful sized video I don't know how long this is going to turn out to be plus I obviously just like talking about this show so why not let's do it just to be clear I think there are two different schools of thought when making something like this one being which episodes I think are best to worst in an objective manner like what I genuinely think the worst executed and best executed episodes are with no personal bias the other is the subjective way where it's my favorite to my least favorite which aren't the same I've always said you could have a favorite episode and not necessarily think it's the best episode and a least favorite and not necessarily think it's the worst so in this video I'll be talking about my personal favorites and least favorites it's going to be close to what I think the best and worst are naturally but it does have my eyes in there which I think people are probably more interested in the only other rule I can think of is I'm going to be ranking any multi-part episodes together as one episode and I'll explain why in the first entry all right the boy in the iceberg and the Avatar returns not everyone knows this but these two episodes were aired back to back when they premiered and in some areas they were even called The Avatar returns Parts one and two and because of how they work narratively I'll be racking them together it's just because if you look at them together they feel more like an actual episode of the show they're set up and payoff but when looking at them separately not so much so what do I think listen man I know I'm not the first to say this but Beginnings are hard it's really hard to introduce characters in a world and for what it's worth Avatar does a really good job of it like I say in over analyzing all the characters are characterized very strongly right away and you believe the world immediately but the question here is is it really an outstanding episode of avatar The Last Airbender no not really and you don't expect it to be it hasn't found its legs yet it's just getting started so I guess the answer is really good start to the show but not a great episode of Avatar I guess that adds up to a b the southern air Temple this episode is surprisingly good in the face of the first two episodes episodes and the ones that follow it you find out so much about Aang and Zuko in the world and it all feels so natural and important like you get so much of the story just by the characters talking to each other and not having it be told to you yeah Zuko versus Zhao is kind of embarrassing but it's one hiccup in what is otherwise an awesome third episode I think it's really good Ah that's an eight-tier Banger for me the Warriors of Kyoshi is a little Bland Saka gets some good character work and works through some stuff gracefully early in the show which is good like we had to have the 12 year old kid gets an ego because of his status beat it just had to happen it makes sense thankfully they get through it in about 10 minutes and we basically never revisit it again so this episode has that going for it yeah and soccer starts to open his mind get away from the views his village life has instilled in him which is good it's interesting but this episode feels janitorial almost it's like okay let's get this stuff out of the way and then we can move on oh and Suki's there too the fight at the end is underwhelming and the resolution with the unagi pulling out the fire seems a little too perfect we'll put that in C tier for now under the opening episodes we'll see where it ends up the king of omashu tries to be fun but it isn't Fun in the way the rest of the show is it feels a little more more childish than when the show hits its stride which is fine it's a kids show but in the context of how good the rest of the show is and how actually fun some episodes are it misses the twist at the end where it's actually boomy is all right and I think it actually got me the first time I watched it and the fight as an intro to Earth bending is pretty serviceable but those are pretty much the only two positives it's not really funny not much is memorable and honestly when I watch this is almost a skip for me it's gotta go deep here imprisoned oh what a mess I've always disliked in prison there's just something about it it seems too self-righteous and overly dramatic if the king of omashu was the show not having its inner child Charmed down imprisoned is definitely the show not having its dramatic heavier angles down Haru is the blandest character of all time and katara's relationship with him isn't at all interesting either like they bond over the Fire Nation taking their parents away and that scene just adds up to them both saying oh okay it's really weird I think the climax is Goofy and heavy-handed and God I hate that one-liner imprison is detier for me I really don't like it the winter solstice part one the spirit world see I'm breaking my own rules here because I'm ranking these separate even though it's a two-parter and that's because it really doesn't feel like a two-parter it's two basically completely unrelated Stories the only through line is ang says at the end of this one what they're gonna do next episode anyway winter solstice part one while introducing some interesting Concepts also to me doesn't quite feel like premium Avatar the concept of Aang not knowing how to do his Spirit job is interesting and the spirit world stuff isn't so bad either and the iro plot line is good World building too you get the first mention of bossing say his nickname is the dragon of the West he sees the spirit dragon and zuku gets to make a really big important decision actually now that I type this out maybe this episode isn't so bad it's got some good stuff in it let's put it in beat here the winter solstice part 2 Avatar Roku now this is a pretty good episode of Avatar definitely up there with the southern air Temple for the best the first 10 episodes have to offer we've got a really interesting action scene right off the bat good the story is really condensed in the one series of events for the first time with all the characters pressed I mean you've got the gang and Zuko and Zhao all here competing which is really cool I don't really care much for the shyu stuff but at the end of the episode with the Roku talk and finding out about the comet and the Roku [ __ ] you I'm the Avatar demonstration makes for a Powerhouse few minutes to end the episode it's really cool throw that one up in eight here the water bending scroll is a step back down not an enormous one but not every episode can end with a fire hurling ghost Katara gets some character work in this we get to see her drive her passion for the art and learning which is really awesome I could take her leave the Pirates they're not bad by any means but they're not at all that memorable and honestly neither is this episode really it's got a couple of good jokes near the end but there's just nothing that really sticks out about this one seat here I think jet one of my all-time hot takes I think this episode is pretty good despite what everyone else says I think Jed is a really interesting character to put in a kid's show a radicalized young man who had his parents killed by an invading Army and will now do anything for revenge and because of the wrong stun to him and to those around him still sees himself as morally Superior despite his monstrous actions now I think that's a really cool angle that's just me though Katara is forced to do a lot of growing up in this episode which in tandem with the last one is a good one-two punch for her when Ang and sock I already had to do some a maturing of their own and soccer gets his first really big W and it deals with some really heavy Concepts I think this episode is underrated it's an a for me for now at the end of this video I'll probably go back and sort all this out reorder a few things when it's all laid out in front of me the Great Divide yeah yeah it's bad I know all the characters are annoying and the conflict is mundane and the action is forgettable I don't really have a lot to say about this one I agree with you it's bad F tier skip it the storm pretty much everyone and their mom says that this is the episode where Avatar really gets going and I agree what I don't agree with is that this is the best episode in season one it is really good I'll give you that but I think as a side effect of watching through the show so many times I've sort of fallen out of love with this episode I like the dueling backstories a lot just like everyone else but for the rest of the episode are you really that interested when you think about this episode do you really think about the Epic climax where they save Saka from the storm because I don't I think this episode does the backstories really well and not much else but I still think that's good enough for an a tier the blue Spirit now this is what I'm talking about this is my favorite in book one the first time Ag and Zuko work together it introduces them cool new yet underutilized Villains The action's Great like standout for book one seriously and it ends on a really cool Melancholy note where Aang is outwardly sad and Zuko was inwardly confusingly set and it feels like he doesn't really know why and the storm does help this episode having both their backstories LED out in front of you in their parallels before they work together is a great idea executed wonderfully s tier first one the fortune teller is the one where I think the comedy really finally gets there there's some really solid jokes all around it's not a very memorable episode and you think it would be because there's a volcanic eruption at the end right that usually sticks out in your head but no it doesn't really help younger me was a hopeless romantic so I've always kind of been partial to this episode even though I probably shouldn't be it's not very interesting from like an objective view but it has some fun moments and it's my list so [ __ ] you beat here I'm definitely gonna say [ __ ] you it's my list at least a few more times in this video Bato of the water tribe this one's pretty divisive I'm not the biggest fan but I definitely like it better than a lot of the haters of this episode if that makes sense Ang has a moment of weakness which is really the Crux of the episode which I don't think think is too far out of character for him but I really don't like the moment of Saka and Katara abandoning him even if it does play into the theme of the episode this one just kind of feels clunky from a writing perspective it does introduce June though so see tear the deserter this is a kind of cool one I think there's this weird two episode stretch where and kind of acts like a dick for some reason this one in bottle of the water trap to which he has served a healthy slice of Humble Pie each time which again it's good to have your children characters learn these lessons but I don't know for this lesson especially it never really struck me that Aang would act so callous you know maybe he would I guess he did learn the other two kinds of bending stupid fast so this slow learning process would be frustrating I guess it makes sense I really don't like what this episode does the Zhao it makes him feel like a weird yelling mess similar to the last episode the writing feels a shade-off but it's definitely less than Bato and the concept for the episode is cooler so this one gets low beat here brother no no no no no no the Northern Air Temple I really don't like this episode the characters introduced are annoying or boring I think the conflict has a really cut and dry answer that being that the mechanism than his people are in the wrong and the battle at the end despite being the largest scale one we've seen so far in the show feels weird and slow and unimpactful none of our main characters get anything interesting to do and because of this the episode suffers a lot this is some detier [ __ ] the water betting Master is pretty good getting to the North Pole finally feels good and we find that we don't have a physical obstacle preventing us from meeting our goals for once but instead a cultural one which is a pretty novel experience for our gang we get soccer meeting UA Ang starting his real water bending training and Katara fighting for a right to party this episode takes a stab at some real issues and has some really strong moments for Katara and even though I think it kind of stumbles at the end with a necklace thing I think overall it's pretty solid we'll put this one in low a for now the siege of the north parts one and two the finale to book one has some pretty high concept [ __ ] going on you got Zhao murdering the moon you've got koi Zello you got UA dying you got Co you got Zuko versus Zhao again you got Zhao dying there's a lot going on but everything I just listed takes place in part two even Co which is surprising sometimes when I think about it well just like I guess that's what you're looking for in a part two all the phenom Valley [ __ ] but at the same time it feels a little rushed part one is setting up the invasion and the first few scuffles there and setting up angstrip into the spirit world which works but I feel like this finale really suffers for the fact that we didn't get to spend a lot of time in the North Pole like if we got one or two more episodes to naturally introduce the spirit Pond or UA being the moon horcrux or to develop soccer in UA at all I think this would have been a lot stronger but what we got is still pretty solid I just think if you cut maybe the Great Divide and another not so great episode and gave them more time in the North Pole it could have been even better but for this two-parter uh top of B for now I think the Avatar state is a good way to start book two azula's introduction is really strong in both Ang and Zuko stories are too it answers a very necessary question that why doesn't Angus go kick the fire Lord's door down in the Avatar State we get to see Zuko's home life from a new interesting angle too and of course we get some lovely parallels between him andang as far as opening episodes go this one is good top of b as well separated from one another this one's fun I've never had a problem with this one a lot of people really hate the hippies and I can see why but but they've never bothered me that much I like the AG and Katara stuff where even Katara starts to think of some new angles with Aang and the Zuko stuff honestly this is one of my favorite Zuko stories not only are there a lot of good jokes with Zuko and iro he starts to get a view of the other side of the war the way the people he attacks see and fear Him and you can see him Reckoning with it I think that part of the episode is really really cool we'll throw this at the bottom of a tier for now return to omashu the second omashu episode and I don't think it's much better than the first one okay that one's that's needlessly harsh it's better but still not a great episode this one has a really goofy Vibe but it doesn't have any of the really good jokes that the previous episode had to make it feel sharp the introduction to both may entirely are good I guess but that's really the only positive I could think of the idea for the fight at the end is really cool but I don't think the episode really does everything it could with it the episode sort of feels like it had one or two less script drafts than any other given episode in the season not the worst but C tier definitely the swamp yeah another one of no one's favorite episode right it's an all right little Adventure from the outside looking in the gang is without their Animal Companions and have to figure it out but the swamp doesn't really end up being that much of a problem you know what I mean it is for sure with the visions and everything but they fight you and then all the problems are just kind of solved you know they beat the monster they're not lost anymore they're back together and they can find off this episode just seems a little too easy for the gang I think there's no real memorable struggle D tier for this one Avatar day the third and the triumphant of pretty forgettable early season two episodes I always say Avatar doesn't really have any failure because even in episodes where the stories and move forward as much the characters usually get a lot of good work like character-wise you know and that's important not so much here though nothing really of note is done soccer gets stacked like a goofball which is fun and we get the really really cool Kyoshi scene but outside of that what's good about this episode it's better than the swamp I think just barely that's a positive bottom of C the Blind Bandit now we're getting into it this is where Avatar kicks into gear and doesn't look back [ __ ] yeah Earth Rumble six is great the jokes are great Top's introduction and learning about her is great the wrestlers versus Toff is great what do you want from me this episode is great obviously top of eight here Zuko alone another Banger clearly this is one of the all-time rates Zuko gets the entire time code to himself to have this sad boy Western episode and you learn a lot about his home life as a kid and that frames his struggle and Undying Will to get back to that life to be even more sad that's his goal he wants to get back to that hell hole but that's all he knows and that's a very sad reality I love that the family he meets is somehow the family he's always wanted as well as a stand-in for his own family I think that's a really cool idea and of course you've got the killer scene at the end where zuku gets to be a bad [ __ ] and it still ends on a punishing sad note for him this one's chef's kiss man this is that's here come on the chase another great one the real introduction to talk to the group dynamic while I don't really care for the inner conflict of the group for this episode that being Katara and tough not getting along I think it's safe by the chase aspect of the episode the episode does the stomp there's no down time and when there is it's stolen they gotta get moving again I like that a lot usually our characters are challenged briefly and sharply but in this one we get to see how they handle them being under pressure for an extended period which is awesome and unique and of course I'm gonna sound like a broken record here for a lot of the episodes moving forward the end action scene is is awesome a three-way fight is a great idea on its own and for it to evolve into a team fight against Azula without a word is a great moment for Azul as a villain it's like everyone just silently comes to the conclusion on their own that yeah she's the problem we gotta focus on her and our two sets of Heroes finally get to work together for once another atear episode bitter work a personal favorite of mine I don't know I've just always liked training episodes and Avatar does it in a really interesting way it's not about the physicality for Aang and Zuko they're both very physically inclined young men it's about the learning process and their mentality which I think is just naturally more interesting you get a really healthy dose of philosophy from iro and all the training scenes are really fun and you know I love when Zuko and anger compared to one another you've heard it and overanalyzing Avatar and like five times in this video already sock and the baby moose line is kind of meh but that's the only really map part of the episode this is top of a and it could end up in bottom of s though at the end hold on to your [ __ ] hats the library I think is probably the weakest episode that's in season two that comes after The Blind Bandit if you can follow that sentence that's not to say it's bad at all it's just in some very athletic company you know what I mean it's got some cool stuff going for it the library is a cool idea I like wanchi Tong the planetarium scenes are really pretty but I still do think this episode stumbles in the end with the scramble out of the library and the Ang and Saka doubling back thing I still think that steals a lot of the dramatic tension from the situation it does some leg work for the overarching story too finding out about the eclipse so that's a positive and I can't really think of anything super negative about it but you don't have to have an outright negative thing for one episode to not be as good as another I think this one fits in the tippy top of B tier for right now the desert a really good one for Katara Nang I always like getting to see different sides of characters because of hardship and we definitely get that frying in this episode and Katara gets to do what she does best being The Matriarch and you get a lot of strength out of her this episode we also get introduced to the idea of the White Lotus for the first time and that's really interesting a lot of people's highlight for this episode is Saka being high but a lot like the storm I think have just fallen out of love with that joke over the years it doesn't really do it for me anymore what does do it for me is the juicy Avatar State scene at the end Aang's not in Mortal danger or angry at a century situation he's angry at a person which is a first and it's awesome I love this scene and everyone can empathize he's like you stole my [ __ ] dog I'm gonna kill you it's really cool and scary almost but it's also really real and emotional which is a hard combination of feelings to hit it's got to be eight here the serpents pass and yes I know that in some areas the library in the desert were aired together under the name the fury event and this one in the drill are sometimes known as The Secret of the Fire Nation but these ones are on their own on the tier list because they feel like episodes when they're by themselves so I don't want to see any of you down in the comments ERM actuallying me down there okay you got that smart enough anyway the secret of the Fire Nation part one is pretty good we get reintroduced to Suki and Jet that's fun I like Aang Reckoning with his emotions and pulling way too far back because he feels like he was too far in the other direction before I like that a lot that feels really human it's a very emotionally centered episode much more than the action and I think it does really well because of that you need that once in a while call it a tier the drill is the complete opposite of the Serpent's past it's one big action problem-solving set piece which I praised on over analyzing I like that there's one very character Centric episode followed by a very action-centric episode it feels like they really thought that out I've been saying it over and over but the quality is just insane at this point all the jokes said all the action is unique and awesome all the characters feel comfortable and like they're really in their Prime and putting that all up against one big problem is a good way to make a good episode another eight here city of walls of Secrets the introduction of Boston say proper for some reason in my youth I remember not liking this one and I can't for the life of me figure out why but this one is great too the Intrigue is masterfully paced and I don't use the word masterfully very often the gang slowly figures out the dark Corruption of the earth Kingdom capital while Zuko and IRA work at Starbucks that's a pretty good idea for an episode The Highlight is the very end with longfang laying out how and why bossing say so messed up and Judy II who I henceforth will be calling 2D shows up for an awesome Stinger to end it the idea of the earth Kingdom capital being the most unsafe Twisted Place they've been to yet is great you know where it goes at this point the tales of Boston say this is a weird one to rank some people list this as their favorite episode in the whole run and I was one of those people at one point I like the idea of the Anthology episode getting to see what our characters are up to on a day off just just getting to spend some time with them but most people list this as the best episode because of the tale of Ira which I understand the tale of Arrow is the best five minutes the show has to offer no doubt but the question is should that carry an entire episode to being top one are the tale of Katara and Toff Saka Ang Momo and Zuko really stand out at La content well zukos is really good but as the years have gone on I've decided for me that no they're not premium Avatar the tale of Arrow is incredible but I don't think it should Hoist the entire episode of the top of the podium still definitely eight here though office lost days huh trying to make me cry huh yeah despite this one being about a big giant monster cow thing and there being not a lot of dialogue it still managed to hit you in the fields really hard because you know everyone loves Opera he's basically a giant dog and everyone loves dogs on most people and everyone hates when bad things happen to dogs it's kind of a cheap shot when you think about it plus it has Guru patique and I'm down for on the episode that he's in honestly bottom of eight here it goes eightier is going to work out here man Lake Lau guy is one of the most complete episodes of avatar you're gonna get I think it's a really really good episode amazing drama and amazing action the story lines all collide these awesome moments below the lake the upper story line is finally complete Jets brainwashing is finally resolved and of course he got the amazing scene with Zuko and Ira everything is firing on all cylinders this episode and it ends on the moment you've been waiting for for too long at this point put it up there with bitter work and then might end up an S tier category the earth king is an interesting episode it starts off big and loud with one of the coolest action scenes in the show but once the kids win the Earth King's trust it slows right down so it can set up the finale which isn't a bad thing you need to set the pins up if you're going to knock them down the episode does suffer a bit from its need to do that though but luckily everything is setting up is really interesting plus it's fun and funny seriously if an episode just has a good comedic vibe to it it's usually going to get a good ranking for me it's just that simple and I think it still belongs in a tier the guru I think this one holds a special place in a lot of people's hearts of course the main draws and working through opening his chakras which also means working through a lot of the emotional baggage he has everyone can appreciate that and it's all done with this wonderful acceptance of it's okay to be hurt but the need to grow past these things plus you get stuck in a meeting up with his Dad and that hits you in the warm fuzzies and Toff changes the whole goddamn Earth bending man I might need to make a new tear when this is all said and done put it up in the code end up in s tier as well area but the guru and The Crossroads of Destiny aired together as a two-part finale listen man I'm sorry my rules are nebulous and Beyond human understanding I hope you can work through this I know it's going to be hard The Crossroads of Destiny is obviously great what an incredible finale to an incredible run of episodes the Zuko's unbetrayal is an awesome gut dropping moment after seeing him grow so much over the season the fight is unique two versus two with a lot of cool never seen before moves and of course Aang being shot dead out of the sky by Azul after one of the coolest Avatar State activations ever and writing structure would usually have you believe that the best practice would be the heroes hitting their lowest point at the end of Act 2 which this is so some really bad [ __ ] going down shouldn't be a huge surprise but I don't think anyone saw the main character getting killed in the earth Kingdom falling coming but this episode has a lot of hutzpah and I spelled hutzpah right on my first try in the script that's how good this episode is like I'm going to spell husba correctly because it deserves that much respect put it in [ __ ] a tier already people are gonna be bored with me putting so many episodes in a tier in a row but this one is going to end up there too the awake is a great dark opening to the darkest season of the show you can really feel the tonal shift Aang is struggling emotionally and he doesn't want to face his failures kataron Zuko both reunite with their fathers that they haven't seen in years and they find themselves in very different but believable conversations that just feel human and real and understandable and Aang acting out feels all too real as well this episode sets up The Season's tone as one of emotion consequences and that's just what we needed okay the headband another one where you either like it or you don't like it well I guess those are the two options all the time you know what I mean it's a bit jarring after how heavy the opening episode was to jump into this really goofy story about Aang starting an actual Dance Dance Revolution in the Fire Nation this one has never bothered me though I think it's a bit of fun and you open up guitar and hang even more to each other which is always good and you get the start of the iro Zuko prison talks which are one of my favorite series of conversations in the show which I mean I don't know how many more series of conversations there are man this entry isn't going too well you know I get it if you don't like this one so much but we're dusting off the beat here I think it goes there The Painted Lady a triumphant episode this episode has it all deep important ties to the rest of the show our characters grow and evolve in ways we would have never seen coming the comedy is unbelievable double-digit gut-busting moments beloved one-off characters that are so memorable people still want to know more about them to this very day and the finale moment one of the most intricate incredibly animated fast-paced fight scenes ever shown on the small screen this episode is a tour de force I'm lying I hate this episode EFT here get the [ __ ] out of here sakus Master a fan favorite no doubt and me being a fan well do the math I really like this episode I basically like any episode where Saka gets to shine I wonder why it's not like I identify with him or anything I think soccer really needed an episode like this to feel complete one where he rises for once not one of his more magically inclined friends and P and that was awesome come on his relationship with Saka is so pure and fun he's like a father figure to him it gives you this nice feeling inside you know oh and also iro gets [ __ ] ripped oh yeah a tier minimum the beach is fine I know a lot of people Vibe with the villainous teens getting a slice of average life and it's all right but for me it's never been the most interesting episode one may have never really interested me so them getting so much screen time feels like kind of a drag the Azula stuff is probably the most interesting on paper but in actuality I don't think they really take it in an interesting Direction like yeah she's weird and doesn't get social interaction but they never really take it anywhere and I wish they did combustion man is cool and I like the breakfast club scene despite not caring much for the melodrama of the rest of the episode I still really do like this one scene so I guess that all adds up to throw it in the middle of Beats here the Avatar and the fire lord might make the S tier cut actually it kind of cheats though doesn't it we finally get the answer too then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked that one's been in the back of my head for a while plus we get a summarized version of roku's entire Avatar journey and his struggles with Sosa and his best friend and how power corrupts and Roku has this lovely nostalgic feeling through the whole episode it's got a lot of stuff going for it that we wanted to see it's a bunch of cheap shots it's not fair oh when you get one of the best twists in the whole show that in the end really doesn't add up to anything but it still undoubtedly one of the coolest reveals yeah I think this does sneak its way into s tier yeah [ __ ] you it's my list you know how it goes people aren't gonna like this one but I I've always had a soft spot for The Runaway I think it's genuinely one of the best episodes in the show's run from a humor standpoint and that does a lot for me I love Avatar's humor but it also has a lot of heart one of my favorite scenes in all of Avatar is the Saka and tough talk at the cliff I love that these two confident and comedic characters can be vulnerable and have a moment together that Always Rings us really important to me I know this episode has its detractors but this is squarely a tier for me fight me you'll lose the Puppet Master another fan favorite for even more obvious reasons that being that blood bending is really cool I'm a big fan of horror and psychological thrillers so the vibe of this episode is basically built for me the pacing is really really good you always have this feeling that Hama isn't quite what she seems but all the hints are spaced out enough and just vague enough that you either figure it out just before the characters do or you figure it out with them and that's exactly what this episode was going for in that respect this is one of the most tightly written episodes of the entire show I think it fumbles the bag at the end with the fight a little bit as you all know but the writing is just too good man eightier nightmares and Daydreams not my favorite episode by any stretch but I don't have as big a problem with that as many people do I think a bit of fun between the puppet master and The Invasion wasn't totally necessary but it is justifiable Avatar is a fun show we love it for how fun it is how fun the characters are so having one fun Off the Wall episode in here in the middle of all the seriousness Harkens back to what made us fall in love with the show or at least it does for me does it go a little too far yeah probably but you know everything in moderation even moderation around bottom of B makes sense the day of black Sun The Invasion and the eclipse the culmination of the entire Show's run everyone comes back to throw everything they have at the Fire Nation a great idea I don't think anyone expected all these fun one-off characters to come back and help the cause the invasion is great though somewhat smaller scale compared to what has been built up as that's to say it's just a ragtag group of friends and allies from around the earth Kingdom I get it but it's still pretty small right to be built up for a whole season at this point still though the action is really good and it only gets better in part two the Azula Showdown is awesome and the Zuko and ozai talk and brief scuffle is one of the highlights of the entire show for a lot of people Zuko finally turns coat and sees the light and even though the invasion in the end and is a failure there's still hope I think these two together just sneak a nest here all right the Western Air Temple not a lot happens in this episode it's just mostly Zuko trying to weasel his way into the gang and he does figure it out by the end the thing is though not a lot has to happen in the show for it to be a really good episode at this point everything is just so great the story and characters and situations they find themselves in just carry it combustion Man shows up at the very end and Saka gets a big W but that's kind of an afterthought and Zuko finally joining up feels good too I ain't hating I'm just saying this is kind of a slower episode but it's still really good a tier can't help it man I'm sorry the fire bending Masters so if you've watched over analyzing Avatar you'll know that this is my favorite episode The Zuko and Ang playing off each other is just awesome to watch and seeing them get along feels really good and we get some interesting insight into fire bending since Zuko needs to learn a new way to go over this new outlook and the Dragon Dance is just beautiful man whoever came up with these visuals is a genius this looks incredible and having this wondrous moment being the thing that pushes Ang past his fear of fire bending is just inspired I love this episode it is an instant Nest here for me put it at the top ah the boiling rock where logic Goes To Die the writing with the prison break is kind of ham-fisted they hand wave a lot of kind of important stuff like them breaking into the prison in the first place and them getting the cooler out of the building and yeah for a show that usually has super tight riding it is pretty noticeable but like many episodes the show carries itself past these problems a re-meeting hakoda and Suki is great and the Betrayal at the end of this two-parter feels really weighty and important and like it makes a lot of sense I just wish it found a way to be a little tighter throw it in beat here not the best not the worst the southern Raiders is where things get their heaviest and I think the show does a really good job of handling this really mature topic it's very nuanced nothing about this episode is black and white it asks a really big and hard question of forgiveness or revenge and there isn't really an answer at the end it's just the reality that these situations are painful and we have to find a way to deal with them and not let them control us it's some really dense subject matter for a kids show plus this episode has one of my favorite scenes where the gang is just talking and discussing what katara's plans are and it's very very serious and there's a lot of very adult and mature take this episode is awesome but it doesn't quite hit s tier for me I know it strikes a chord even harder than it does with me for some people so try not to hate me too much solid a tier episode the Amber Island players yes yes it's all been said before greatest recapped episode ever it's a waste of time it's just fine as a fan of Avatar humor I am a fan of this episode I think it's got a lot of good jokes and that's all there really is to say about it beat here right sounds right and finally sozen's comment remember how I said but getting so hard well endings are even harder how were you supposed to end a show that as good as this and have everyone be satisfied well the answer is you don't it's impossible but Avatar got about as close as you can probably get I think every character got some really interesting [ __ ] to do and I think it was about as climactic as everyone was expecting you got everything you wanted Aang ozai Zuko Azula yeah the line Turtle still doesn't really work for me that's probably my biggest problem and yeah it was Zuko actually got the win on Azula rather than the moral Victory but the moral Victory is probably more important for his story everything wraps up pretty well there's not too much left to answer and it leaves you on a genuinely happy ending which is awesome I like that you want these characters to have a happy ending because you like them so much you've fallen in love with them put it around the top of a from right now and we'll see where it lands after we reorganize all right so we're going to be doing a little reorganizing of this [ __ ] you're getting me off the cuff here no script which is rare so you'll definitely hear me hemming and hawing more often than you've ever heard it before because obviously I usually cut that out but for some reason we're doing this part live so yeah we're mixing it up a bit all right let's sort this [ __ ] out I think definitely a tier is going to get cut down a little bit and then BT will probably get a little heftier but I think the extremes of the list are pretty much going to be what they are but uh we'll see as we go through it here so s tier looks pretty solid ordering wise for me like fire bending matches at the top Zuko alone uh probably no that seems right and then Dave likes on the bottom yeah that seems all correct to me um but then I had like three or four down here where I was like ah they could get up there so bitter work that's really close man uh I do think the guru sneaks into s here just barely because I really like that episode man and bitter work Lake Lou guy that seems right um Susan's comment right below them yeah that makes sense the Blind Bandit get above that maybe yeah maybe we'll put tough up here and then the finale that seems right in my head uh then what comes right after that the desert definitely isn't the one that comes right after that uh so we'll throw the deserts and the dredges here for a second um Southern Raiders I like soccer's Master more than Southern Raiders like I stopped halfway through the tier list I just started kind of throwing them into the tears just because I thought it'd be fun to do this part so um so it's like half ordered half not but uh we'll figure it out so I'm ready to The Runaway probably Southern Raiders that seems right The Runaway can probably move down a few spots here across are the destiny is definitely above the Runaway so is the Awakening hand tails of Boston say we'll move you down here for now the cross has a destiny into the Awakening and the tales of Boston say now where does tails of Boston say go because all right that was my point it's like does the five minutes of the tale of iro really carry it above the 20 22 minutes of really good stuff that these episodes have I don't think so um but then where's your cutoff does that five minutes beat well five minutes and change but five minutes plus the other few stories that are quite enjoyable still but you know what I'm saying um we're gonna say tell the boss thing say beats out The Runaway and then the chase Beats at The Runaway too I think um the storm being somewhere in the middle distance of eight here seems right I know everyone really wants me to like that episode but like I said it's just kind of falling out of love with a man you know so the storm can probably move down throw it here for now and The Runaway into the Western Air Temple probably throw the desert under right above the Runaway Chase desert yeah there's probably a better way to do this right It's gotta be anyway I'm just gonna keep going I'm like halfway through now um the serpents pass can probably move down a few but where to we're just passing you know under the storm I think cities and walls and secrets I like probably better than the storm the Puppet Master can move way up I think it's just the writing's still good you know we'll move the Puppet Master [Music] hey Irish I think seems fair Southern air Tempo is really good man that episode doesn't get enough love the southern heritageable is very very good better than the drill well they're probably around the same but I think they're both better than the Serpent's Pass water bending Master can probably move up a shade too we'll put that right above the drill Avatar Roku and office lost stage being at the bottom of a tier I think is good but I think these four can probably safely move into beats here and then we'll sort them out when they get down there yeah that seems right better work down to office lost days being eight here yeah I'm cool with that okay so B tier now so we've got the deserter at the top that's not gonna stay there clearly so what is the top of Beats here I really like the headband let's start with the headband the headband's very good gonna be near my top of beach here for sure headbands better than deserter yes so what's the deserter better than uh not a lot when it comes to bees here I think we'll move you way down um the Earth King's good just not 18 material so we'll leave that there for now okay the two lovers I like better than the earth king Jets uh can definitely be under the library definitely gonna be under boiling Rock uh boiling Rock and probably get above the library though [ __ ] though let's figure out jet here Jed can probably go down beneath like the beach probably even though I don't have the beach in the right place yo we'll figure it out seas in the north where does that end up it gets easier as I get things sorted out you know how it goes Season north is probably right where it belongs right there I think it's not a super Powerhouse couple episodes so I think right there maybe it'll change once B2 gets sorted uh the desert is going to move way down I think the beach into the Amber Island players yeah maybe and then nightmares and Daydreams they're basically the same episode to me there's gag episodes and a jet into the desert I think I like jet like maybe one percent more than the deserter uh then the spirit world seems good there the puppet master and then the opening two episodes being the bottom of beat here I think that's respectable right that's not like a diss or anything that's that seems pretty respectable so I think that's sorted that's through b sorted down to C tier down to the dredges here Bato the water tribe at the top now we'll probably put Avatar day at the top uh then Bato seems fine I don't I don't think boss has that all that bad of an episode see tear yes but it's not all that bad water bending scroll return to amashu uh these two are both pretty forgettable the war is Kyoshi though are probably it's probably like below them oh and then you got the swamp at the top of D ah well I mean the question is the Warriors of Kyoshi are the swamp the battle of the episode fours meanwhile saka's Master up top chilling season three episode four but season one episode four and season two episode four you know what I'm gonna do I'm actually gonna do one of these I'm gonna move Warriors of Kyoshi down to D tier I know I love soccer too and everything but and we're being realistic here swamp then the Warriors of Kyoshi and the king of omashu they're in prison no then we'll do I guess one of these it's tough between king of amaju and the Northern Air Temple and present definitely at the bottom of D tier um I don't like him prison as an episode very much at all uh then after we got the Great Divide and the Painted Lady yeah no that checks out pain later at the bottom uh yeah so I think this is the finished product this is it uh the fire betting Masters right down to the Painted Lady so uh yeah I guess that's it uh thanks for watching and uh we'll do the page and shout outs actually psych I decided to plug my
