Hey Dude want to bring me that day to our otter system here we've made quite a few changes over the last couple of months been a while since we've talked about it so this one I want to show you what we've changed out and kind of what we're doing you know as as you know we were using the ten by twenty grow trays and I'm going to go ahead an overlay some video to show you what we have been doing in the past and growing out the bottle from there the system that I was using you know I was putting the seats to soaking overnight into a bucket which we're still doing and then for the first couple of days it was spending getting doing a flushing drain in the 5-gallon buckets before going into the the trays on the the shelving behind me we actually posted a video card called barley fodder follies in which I discussed some of the issues of the heaven with that as far as eating the trays oriented correctly and we were using the PVC piping on the shelves in order to orient the the growth rate so that the water flowed down one way drained and it slowed down the other way and if you get the trains turned around wrong that water pulls up and it will run that batch of barley in addition to that just having the gravity flow and the drain holes on one hand the water didn't flow through the system quite as fast as it probably should it actually you know was a permanent quite a lot over the seven days or so of growth and you know my hands would get all nasty you want to take the fodder out to feed the animals and everything and it was kind of an unpleasant experience dealing with it went up to in June to the permit ethos workshop that I did up I talked about and one of my summer updates and one of the things they had just completed and post the video on was a Barney fought our system similar to this where they're using the bus towed so the tenants that are using are a little bit bigger than the ones I have I'm post a link to these on Amazon I want to say these were about 9 bucks apiece the system is a little bit pricey it's something that you know if you're on a budget if the amount of money you spend on something like this is a concern the grow trays you know I think they work pretty good like I said even though I'm gonna wait with them for a couple of reasons you know as a starter you know you want to invest in the shelves and then just a few dollars to invest instead of those grow trays those growth rates are pretty reliable I want to say we started doing that back last December or November somewhere around there so in about six or seven months time frame only had two oh and bust on me and you know I thought that was pretty good we weren't taking them out to the animals in those trays I was taking the barley the the grown fodder out living in a five-gallon buckets and hauling them down to the animals so they weren't really seeing a lot of abuse besides just moving from shelf to shelf in the system getting washed out in and replaced so these behind me are you know one of the things that I liked about was the fact that the seat goes in them as soon as it's soaked overnight seat goes in it drains through to the bottom to the bucket below and then from there you know once it's grown out to seven days for the barley five days to the sunflowers we'll talk about that here a minute we can take the the totes the bus trays down to the animals people in the traders that are in and they're bringing back so anyways I think they like that a lot better than heaven make the mess and get seeds all over the place in here in the room it's constantly trying to clean that up it just works a lot better to be able to have the trades just move shelter shelf and then when they're completed take them out to the animals so alright let's get into some of the details about what's going on here alright guys as you can see here this is the the buster and it's pretty good solid plastic and what I did was if you can see in the in the camera there it's I took a 1/8 drill bit and I drilled two of these at a time just to kind of save time if you have a longer drill bit you might be able to do three but anyways I just went ahead and drilled the holes all the way through here about 15 holes across and then I think about 10 or 11 down I tried to stay away from the edges I want to be able to have a water drain from the middle of the pan and not really be draining from the edges just so that reduces the chance for a mess here in the room but that's pretty much all it is as far as the trains go now the system here I've got I've got my Bartley on this right side here and so the city soaks in a five-gallon bucket overnight for about you know 10 12 hours I come out here twice a day we rinse in the mornings we rinse in the evening so pretty much it's a before work task and an after work task but the the soak seat goes in here about three gallons of water is what I pour in from a bucket it rinses and just drains through those holes all the way down to the bottom about six days you see here I got a good man a good solid map you can see you can see right in here you know I've got a good solid mat across there and being up and having the flush and drain complete like this without the gravity flow of the other trays makes this so much more pleasure to handle in the mornings normally I would have an extra seventh day of growth down here at the very bottom actually see this in the camera not that bottom tray is empty was away overnight on trip last weekend and ended up skipping a day so we've got an Indy tray one of my sunflowers we're just basically doing sunflower sprouts we're not doing the extra couple of days of growth like the barley I try to do it and like that and it ends up molding we don't get a whole lot of good growth it's good grassy growth like to get with the barley so it's basically just five days sprouted and the chickens love it I did try mix where I put the barley on sunflower together that did not go very well one of the things that I've learned you know the barley seed tends to sink in the water so it stays at the bottom of the water flushes all the way through your sunflower seeds tend to float and because of that always ended up with the sunflower seeds on top of the barley seeds every time we would grants and didn't get a good grassy growth from the barley with a sunflower on top of it so I've slowed them back up and give this to the chickens we give the barley to the rabbits seeds fall down from the barn after the chickens as well and then we usually with that size with the rabbits we have we ended up with extra barley that gets thrown to the chickens as well so the chickens get a little bit of both the rabbits are exclusively barley all right one other thing is since we do take the tubs down to the animals you know we pulled the tray I pull the trays out in the bottom in the mornings we take them down and then of course we immediately have to replace them so I've got a couple extra trays over here to the side for that purpose I've actually got a couple extra trays or not on camera right now just in case we don't get them watched they do end up having to wash them pretty much on a daily basis after we've been given up to the animals so they can come back you start cleaning and so I've got those all right so you see my shelving systems up on a pallet I've got a drain hose coming off of that bottom tote this is the same under the bed plastic tote that I was using with the seedling tray so I didn't change that out I just drilled a hole down here in the bottom of it and I got a little fastener there that allows me to adapt the hose to the bottom so one water drains through it essentially you know comes out here and comes out this drain over here and that's just a 1/2 inch irrigation line that I had extra and just a little adapter underneath that you know it's right into that line there and that actually works pretty good so you know just trying to be creative you know if you got a situation where you don't have a drain you probably have to figure you something out as far as be able to get rid of that water because like I said I'm putting about three gallons through each side every every day or every twice a day every day so every grants three gallons through each side so that one we got to go somewhere and for me just go into this drain that I had put in this room when it was built makes sense but you know if you got away you can be able to get that drain down to an external source if you're doing it in a room in your house or on a garage put a pocket and run it to the wall whatever you need to do all right guys it's evening time now evening process is to go ahead and rinse through each side about three gallons of water and then we're going to go ahead and get some dry seed out in order to set up the soap overnight so let's go ahead and run some water through here maybe use a ladder just to be a little safe side even though I can't reach it up here we got a nice flush and drain all the way down to the bottom one of the things about this having to get up on the ladder is you know that's quite a bit of weight I'm tearing up there I'm a big guy I can take care of that if you're smaller in stature and that's a problem for you the way I would solve that problem is I actually added two shelves to this showmen unit normally these showing units that you get at Lowe's or Sam's Club or anything like that this particular one I got two blows comes with five shelves I actually purchased an additional two shelves to add to this unit after the fact to give me seven rows but you can space them the same way that I've spaced them here you know and your your hike is only about right here nor do for that water if you didn't want to go the extra height up here you just have five rows and of course you can just flip split them if you want to do seven days of growth you know you could have you know three or four or five trades over here and a couple over here in order to give you your seven days worth of growth I would recommend going and having ten trays at least every row or every column of traits that you have I recommend having the full column of trays it slows the water down on the way down and you're lucky you have less bladder and less mess so that's that's a reason why down here on the bottom below the sunflower and then do the five days of growth I've got two trays down here below just to slow the water down so I have a whole lot of splatter making the master to come out and do a rinse hey guys here we are next morning and get the seeds soaked overnight and be ready to put them into the system over here first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna pull the finished product for the animals later today and then we're going to move everything down so we can put the fresh barley and some flowers at the top so let's do that all right so got a big move ready put everything at the top so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take the seeds over here with an empty tray over to the sink we're gonna form and let all the water that has soaked over 90 and drain down I don't want to flush that for you it's quite dirty so we'll do this we'll rinse it out in the sink then we'll go ahead and put this up top and a fresh batch of water through it now I'm just got picked this up just let it rain here and then we'll move it over to the top do the same thing with the sunflowers alright guys that's going about wrap us up here just a couple more things I want to cover before we shut it down I'm not using this scoop I'm just using this cup here I don't have a reason why so I'll just have it laying around it's about 12 fluid ounces the bar way that I have in here is about 16 ounces or not quiet maybe 15 15 and a half I put in three scoops of this into the trays and what that's given me is under seven days it's starting to look like this so three of those cups is about 45 ounces this is about four times that weight so give or take just a little bit just a little bit of fluctuation there I haven't waited everyday but we're looking at about you know twelve pounds of feed here so that's exciting also about 10 ounces of sunflower seeds again this is five days of growth you know you could grow it out longer but you're like I see a whole lot of you know anything good come out of it like I said it tends to mold a little bit even though I've got a fan on I haven't had any mold problems with the barley but you know this looks pretty good the chickens like its problem like this they're they really don't like the barley the grass as much as the rabbits do the five-day sprouts tend to suit them a little bit better but this is about we could about two times the growth rate on the sunflower seeds the we're putting it up save us four cups in so 40 ounces and then we're getting about baby ounces or close to it of sprouted sunflowers here so pretty happy with that I'm out too they eat it all up every day so as the winter comes along and we start getting colder weather and less forage for the the chickens then we may up that we may go up to five or six cups but what it's gonna play about urine see how it works the other thing is of course with the dairy goats the group of Sodom's that we've had before and the the other handful of the Alpine mixes that we've now sold off they didn't like it for whatever reason not sure why you know I've read online a lot you know we'll do feed their livestock horses and you know alpacas and goats and sheep and stuff like that barley fodder I actually have taken some down to the new signs that we have the dough's and the dough links you know they're you know most of them are a little less than a couple over a little less than a year a couple of our yearlings they liked it but it's kind of a mess a mess when they take it out of the trays the feed trays they have and they drop it on the ground so what I may end up doing is to grow let me have another column over here and actually trying it out and just taking one of these Rubbermaid containers down and sending it on the ground for them just let them graze off of it like grass and see how they like that and see how that works so I've got to do that experimental get some more film of that butter wise I think that wraps this up appreciate you guys watching pleasure doing these videos for
