(pained groan) (triumphant orchestral music) - I'd like to start this video with a serious announcement. - [Alexa Home Speaker] What's the announcement? - What? (playful piano music) Did you just hear my-- - [Alexa Home Speaker] Announcing... (ding) "What"? - What?! You didn't hear that, did you? Oh my gosh. I gotta get rid of this thing. - Announcing... (ding) "What"?! - That's so weird! Try that again. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to start this video with a confession, oop! (squeaky wiping) (fake crying) A confession... (deep breath) I'm sorry I lied to you. A couple years ago, I made a home-made eggnog latte video, and I said this... (twinkling) Now one thing I couldn't get ahold of was eggnog, and you can make that from scratch, but you can buy it in packs, it's also name is advocaat as well, but unfortunately, this British supermarket didn't have it. I've got to go, why am I doing that with my hands, I don't know. I did say that, so if anyone under the age of 10 years old made my home-made eggnog latte and used advocaat, which is an alcoholic spirit, rather than a home-made eggnog, I'm sorry (chuckles). So today, I actually want to go and roll back the-- ♪ Rollin' back the years ♪ Can you tell I'm feeling a little bit better? Yes, you can. I wanna know what actually is eggnog, and I wanna make it. What is eggnog? What's a nog? Alexa, what is a nog? [Alexa Home Speaker] As a noun, knock is usually defined as the sound knocking-- - No, not a knock! She's being quiet, you can't hear her. Said knock, no, stop! (Alexa Home Speaker talking in distance) Okay, so let's go to the shops, get the ingredients for the eggnog, also, if we can, get some more advocaat, and we also need some bourbon today. I don't think I've ever had bourbon before... A chocolate bourbons, Bourbon Freeman, love that pun, No, don't think I have. (swoosh) See, I'd normally be driving to the supermarket, but the traffic's been stacked. So, do you sell advocaat? - What was that? - Advocaat, it's like, for eggnog? She's trying to find it. 30 quid... This better be worth it, guys. She managed to find a bottle as well. Amazing. (swoosh) So, let's just bring it back to basics. In terms of eggnog, it does not need to be alcoholic. You need milk, whole nutmeg... (nutmeg clinking in jar) We're gonna grate that, it's gonna be great. Double cream, it's very naughty, so I've gone for a light cream, 'cause it makes us feel a teeny bit better about ourselves. Eggs, oh my, what?! They were really short on eggs, and they had blue, I've never had a blue egg before. These are actually blue eggs! And sugar, that is all you need to make the basics, the basis, of your eggnog. The optional alcoholic enhancements, typically bourbon. Wow, this is strong! And, we've got some advocaat, which we don't really need. This is very similar to eggnog, but as you can tell by the colour, it's a bit more egg-yolky, it's a bit more rich, and of course, it's alcoholic, kids. So, please, don't have that. That's the weirdest lid I've ever seen, it's like someone's just stuck a load of Playdoh on a bottle. There we go. (knife set on table) Oh, what happened to the eggnog that got arrested? It went into custardy. (holiday piano music) (cork pop) Oh, geez! Like a little nipple. Oh wow, that has got some kick. (sip) (gulp) (pained groan) (cough) Oh! Oh my God (retching). (deep breath) I hate spirits in general, part from Morgan's Spiced Rum. Very specific about that. Oh, why? (sighs) (cap twisted off) Let's remind ourselves what this tastes of. It's from Holland, yes it is Dutch, I remember that now. (lips smack) Oh... That's like a naughty custard, that's actually a little bit nicer. Anyhow, let's crack up our blue eggs. I can't believe this, is there gonna be a blue yolk in it? Imagine that. (singing) We've got some work to do. This is home-made eggnog. (swoosh) I feel a little bit merry, I'm not gonna lie. No Christmas pun intended. The next definition down on nog, noun, any beverage made with beaten egg, usually with alcoholic liquor. There you go, boom-chicka-wowa. There's also, I think it's called a Tom and Jerry, which is a hot version of an eggnog. We're not going into that, we're just doing cold. Alright, I know I get a little bit eggcited sometimes, but I genuinely have not heard of blue egg before. Have I lived under a rock all my life? I don't know, I mean... (egg cracking) Oh, here we go... Ah, why was I hoping that the yolk was gonna be blue? Alright, so, we need four eggs. Alright, so, we need four eggs. We need to separate them, but I've got a gadget for that. (sucking noise) Oh! One. (sucking noise) Two. Oh, oh no, no, no, oh my... I've got like two normal eggs in the fridge, we'll get around it. (swoosh) Alright, we are saved, we have got four egg whites from some eggs that we still had here, luckily, just enough. Make sure they're nice and separated, not a trace of yolk in that bowl for the time being. Alright, so here are our egg yolks. Now, they're not blue as we found out. We're just gonna beat them until they start to go light. You can actually do a warmed version of this. (mixer buzzing) And what I mean is that we warm up the milk and the other ingredients, including the alcohol, and temper the eggs, but we're not gonna do that. We're gonna go for a cold eggnog, alright? There's a couple of versions of it. Alright, so unlike the light in this very room right now, (chuckles) it's such a murky day outside. These yolks have lightened up. So, we're gonna dip in our sugar, and whisk that through. (mixer buzzing) Beautiful! It's really weird, 'cause what we're doing right now is actually effectively making a custard, or almost, very, very similar to an ice cream mix. Now, remember when we sent the garlic bread into space fairly recently? (swoosh) To the edge of space! (swoosh) Spoiler alert, we might be doing that again soon with an ice cream base. In goes our double cream, oh my gosh. Right in there, extremely, extremely naughty. And our milk, this is 500 mL's, AKA a pint. And our milk, this is 500 mL's, AKA a pint. And you know when you go to shop, you can buy nutmeg, normally ground up a bit like cinnamon, try and get it fresh like this, like an actual nut. (nutmeg grating) 'Cause then you can grate it in and it smells (sniff) oh, so good. (sped up nut grating) Alright, I've brought you in close for this 'cause I think it's gonna look good, oh my gosh! We're just stirring that beaten egg yolk and sugar in with the milk, cream, and the spice. So, stir it until it's all as one. Let's not whisk it, again we don't wanna whisk it, guys. Could be a bit whisky. (sped up stirring) Wow, so that's gotten actually quite light now. The milk has really got in there. I'm loving it, it's almost some sort of speckled well-mixed together and smooth... I like it, I like it a lot. Alright, so that mix is down there. It's gonna stay as it is for the time being. We now bring over our egg yolks, which are right here. We're gonna whisk them up, so in terms of your whisk, make sure these are clean. You don't want it on too fast either, 'cause you don't want a eggsplosion. (mixer buzzing) So, we're just gonna whisk these egg-whites up. Alright. Soft peaks, but we're gonna add a little bit of sugar. Just a tablespoon. (singing) (holiday music) (mixer buzzing) Beautiful, and of course, the old-age test to see if it's worked... (holiday music) There we go! Alright? Entertainment! (chuckles) One and a half tablespoons now of bourbon, optional, I'm gonna do it. One, oh my gosh, please don't ruin it! Like putting ketchup in a cake. (swoosh) - How dare you? (swoosh) - One and a half, tablespoons of bourbon. Whisky whisk. (mixer buzzing) Wow, those are some chunky egg-whites! Right, we bring it together. In you go! (mixture pouring) Ah, yeah! And then, push in, (chuckles) look at that! It's like a little island! And then finally, we'll whisk it through, not on turbo mode. (mixer buzzing) We're making eggnog, baby! Oh, boom! Oh, boom! That's it! Here it is, this is eggnog, okay? Eggnog, pug, not eggnog. Okie-doke folks, we have done it! But, it's at room temperature right now, so now we're gonna put it in the fridge. Internet cooking show fridge is sometimes called the freezer, just to chill it, alright? Want it nice and cool, we can see what it tastes like and the effect that bourbon has. See ya in a bit! (swoosh) I'm bizarrely feeling festive this year, so whilst that's in the fridge, here is your own downloadable wallpaper for the computer. (holiday music) (grunts) (hands wiped on sweater) Sorry, let's get it out of the fridge. (swoosh) This is nice and, wow this is so cold now, and it's frothy, that's what we want, see that froth on the top? (singing) Yas! - I walked in, and I can hear, I won't sing it (chuckles)-- - Christmas carols! - No, Away in a Manger playing. - Yeah, we're just getting in the zone! (bag crinkling) - Getting worried about you. - Yeah, but I'm in my eggnog zone! - Okay. - It is 46%, yeah. - Bourbon, this is at 46%! - Yeah. - That would blow your mind, wouldn't it? (chuckles) - Well I'm not gonna plan on drinking all of it! - Oh my God, that burns your nostrils! - Oh my gosh, your hairs fallin' off. (holiday music) (chuckles) Alright, while Mrs. B's fascinated by alcohol, look at this, it's kind of got a cottage cheese kind of topping on it now, but that is what we want apparently, that kind of foamy lid. But, it's gonna be very hard for me to transfer it to a glass, so I am gonna put it to a jug first. (holiday music) (mixture pouring) Ah, look at that! - Is it meant to be like that? - What do you mean, "Is it meant to be like that"? That's art! Let's pour this in... Ah, wow! (silverware clacking) Now I'll leave a little bit at the top to scrape some of that cream on. Oh, yes! (spoon clinking) There's little specks of spice in there as well, I love it! (nutmeg grating) And extra nutmeg on the top, ah! (holiday music) Just found out a noggin is actually a person's head. Amazing we got it right all these years. Also, "A small quantity of alcoholic drink, "typically a quarter of a pint". A small amount, a quarter of a pint! Depends on the drink, where you going, where you going? (chuckles) I feel like I want to put a chocolate flake in it. If it looks like a British ice cream. 'Kay, here we go... (gulping) Mmm! (gulping) Mmm... Oh, wow! It tastes like after-shave! (laughs) Chilling it has really made it... It's just really thick, and like a really overly-pimped thick, clinky, clinky milk. Oh, and it's so naughty! You get a real light hint of the bourbon, but it's nothing. I think it kinda enhances it. It works with the nutmeg. I bloomin' love it. So, in conclusion, this is not this, but both are very nice in their own separate ways. I've finally put this to bed. I can now rest easy and know what eggnog is. Serve it warm as well, and like I said, I think you're gonna love it. (gulping) Stonking. See ya next time, bye! ♪ Check your level, player ♪ ♪ No matter what your style ♪ ♪ The kitchen's for me ♪ ♪ Sideburns, moustache, goatee ♪ ♪ Maybe all three ♪ - Where did you get this? - From the supermarket! - They sell it? - You know, that place where you spend all my money!
