[Music] [Music] hello and welcome to only connect the quiz that's all about hidden connections but there's nothing very hidden about the connection between best behavior BBC 4 chairs and tender hooks since it's fairly obvious they are all things our teams are on and who can blame them for being nervous or indeed on chairs because this is the semi-final just one step from the ultimate Championship remember some of our previous winners have gone on to careers in TV and when I say some I mean one the rest have gone back to the day job it's a personal choice and some would say a wise one will our contestants be choosing wisely tonight tonight let's meet them on my right the Alman Chris Quinn a marine biology graduate with a passion for Sherlock Holmes stories Graham Barker a keen photographer who graduated with a degree in dental surgery from the University of Liverpool and their Captain Mark Kerr a surveyor and Native liver pudan who's learning to play the guitar Mark the Alman fought of some stiff competition from the pool sharks and the in-laws what's your strategy for the semi-final um hit him hard hit him low they get up we'll hit him again that sounds very intellectual let's see what kind of competition you'll be facing you've got the radio addicts Dave Clark an English teacher with an interest in genealogy and blogging Neil Phillips an accountant who enjoys Hill walking reading and watching Sport and their Captain Gary Grant a GP and animal lover who enjoys Exotic Travel and volunteers for a conservation charity Gary your team have prized themselves away from the wireless long enough to win two games now what's your strategy here how have you prepared for the semi-final um well we're thinking along the lines of how we played in the last game when uh we discovered that you solve the ball by pressing the buttons at random uh which seemed to work last time so we're going to try that again today and see if it happens okay I don't know how far it'll get you in round one though that's what we're going to play now you'll all remember I simply want to know what's the connection between four apparently random Clues the fewer Clues you need to see before giving me the correct answer the more points you'll get Alman you won the toss so please select your Egyptian hieroglyph Twisted flax please the Twisted flax these are going to be picture Clues you've got the picture question right away first one is coming up now Bon next one yeah next please that's a ma mael yeah no that's a mael mael sky macro clouds abble clouds the type of clouds AB Cloud yeah it's um also known as a Thunderhead storm cloud sky is it Anvil sky or Cloud I think just clouds 10 seconds yeah thanks we're going for clouds in the sky you're right they're used to describe cloud types Anvil mackerel you'd have had May's tails and cotton wool you came in after only two Clues so you get three three points and it's over to the radio addicts to pick a question lion please lion first clue coming up now okay do you know what that is MHM not at all okay next do we know who he is that doesn't mean anything to me TOA no scell scell no again me nothing to me unfortunately right next oh right the bank chairman Mary Mr dors was the bank chairman in Mary Poppins it played by Dick Van now whether these have all been played with I don't know right about CAU the accent I think we have to C another one don't we 10 seconds what were they called again this is it's not my ear on afraid 3 seconds honestly don't know let's hear it dick um and there's no need to get annoyed it's early in the show you've got plenty of opportunities uh all all that we've come up with is the bank chairman of Mary Poppins was Dick Van dijke um and that's us clutching at straws as is probably quite apparent I am going to go over to the Alman for a possible bonus um they all died laughing talk me through it you are going to get a bonus Point well um certainly the the bank chairman Mary Poppins died laughing when he said he was going to spend take the money out the bank and spend it on feeding the birds and the the viewer of the goodies died um apparently his his his widow wrote in and comp sorry and thanked them for the fact that her husband died laughing died with a smile on his face that's absolutely right Alex Mitch his name was died laughing a goody sketch quite right Dr Orin scell a character in the musical version of The Little Shop of Horrors all right and chrysus a Greek philosopher Legend has it he died laughing after watching a donkey eat some figs yes oh right they didn't have television in those days you know they laugh more easily they were an easy crowd all died laughing that's a bonus point to you Alman please pick your own question Eye of Horus the Eye of Horus first clue coming up now I don't know I get I next please are they quadratic that's a quadratic so quad tertiary quadratic tertiary equation quadratic is 3 4 5 six this not what we got yeah well that's definitely a quadratic equation the second don't go for the next next please Perfect Circle CES circles they all Define circles they all make circles for two points those first two Clues are in fact the complex and cartisian formula for a circle jotto the artist who drew a perfect circle for the pope to show his skill pair of compasses of course it's obvious they all make circles very well done back to you radio addicts pick a hieroglyph horn Viper please the horn Viper first clue coming up now um democracy wman doesn't mean it no no wman um you have to go [Music] next have we nothing at all C theam you did write the de camon but uh yep um I don't think so next Burns's from well yeah he was born in a 10s dear me um next part of democracy two seconds um they were all the bard of um the stated things so um Shakespeare was the bard of a uh Burns was the bard of Aire and Bashi was the bard of Pros Etc just in the nick of time they were all bars so you get the points you're off the starting blocks very well done back to you now asman I think I can guess what you're going to choose well we we can't have water can we we'll have two reads please I know you have tremendous Hydrophobia over there so two reads for you and the first clue is coming up now no next please are these lication I don't know well the fiction they you je decimals is not fiction fiction takes to read I know what it is the road's quite a short book isn't it how long it read on the road should we get the next one yeah next please 10 seconds is that when they were set the they were set I think the DAT they were set yeah I think it's the the uh the dates that they were uh set in I'm afraid that is absolutely not the answer so I'm going to show the fourth clue to the radio addicts for a possible bonus Point um there are the time on the uh clock on the poster for it you are painfully close but I don't think I've ever seen a film poster of Great Expectations with that on the clock it's horrible though because they are all the times at which clocks are stopped within the story The Road call karthy novel after an apocalyptic event the clock stops at that time great expectations it's the time Miss havisham was due to get married the clock has stopped at that time back to the future of course the the clock freezes for Michael J fox to pass through time pul fiction almost all the clocks are set at 420 in that film a little in joke radio addicts that leaves the water question for you of course you'll have noticed we haven't yet had a music question this is it first clue coming up now [Music] next it's a kind well these are all film music I go that's from from Highlander I think it's a kind of magic it's a kind of magic next steel six minut on the R so it has to be six PS or something six minuts on the r kiss me yeah go go six six P you don't look happy but you will because that's the correct answer coming in after three Clues you get two points what do you think you heard half of six flashbang wallet well that was myomy was the first one certainly the third one was uh six p on the Richer with kiss me um second one was It's a Kind of Magic by Queen the six P reference a bit lost to me on that ah you may not be aware that Brian May from Queen famously plays his guitar with as AUM that's it the last one would have been sing a song of six but you didn't need that one for two points well done that means at the end of round one the radio addicts have got three points but the alsman are in the lead with six round two is the round of sequences the teams may see a maximum of three Clues because the question is what comes forth simple as that or is it Alman you to go first please pick a hieroglyph horn Viper please the horn Viper first in a sequence is coming up time starts now and all that you ask for the next one yeah next please that's a date that's it 66 it could be C something what was the [Music] dayon I don't know can't remember 1th Century or something 17 or 16 should we go for the next one yeah next please 1666 1966 yeah World Cup final it's going to say England wins the World Cup why is it going to say that CU they all all events have happened in six the year 66 so 1066 1366 1666 1966 yeah absolutely right there are events happening 300 years apart 1066 famously the nor Conquest Stella arto Brewery on the cans I'm sure you'll know beer drinkers it says ano 1366 Great Fire of London 1666 and 300 years later really anything that happened that year but that seems to be the one that boys remember over to you then radio addicts to pick a hieroglyph twisted flax please okay first clue coming up what's fourth time starts now uh us say was the first in terms of medals and the Olympics I don't things next Australia 4th uh but which is it going could be medal State Olympics or or somewhere else but then I don't know how it's going to go I wouldn't like to predict just we'll have to go [Music] next Grace 15th oh wouldn't it be where the Olympics were held Greece was first Greece was first of course yeah uh Greece 15th 10 seconds oh what's it going to be USA first uh first country to do what seconds all right uh United Kingdom 20th why I have no idea it's really not that no so unraid I'm going to throw it over to the Alman for go the bonus no don't know it got no answer the answer is China first these are the Olympic medal placings of the most recent four host Nations Alman please pick a question lion lion first clue coming up what's fourth starting Now nulear power station the could tell from should we get the next one yeah or is it Dal next please y don't next please was it um these waterfall Riv coming out into into the the North Sea north to [Music] souths swell that's not the answer radio addicts do you want to have a go we'll try the Dawn you're not right either but what's your logic uh there are rivers that flow through Yorkshire in order from north to south each of these Rivers flows into the next so fourth you'd expect to see the number no points there then radio addicts please choose a hieroglyph two reads two reads first is coming up now okay Mars um anything we can get from that which is go for next gu who was the creator in Greek mythology oh hang on is it is it going to be Earth fire water well then we' need the other one then wouldn't we um but he's he's not fire no no right next Aphrodite goddess of love goddess of love um so we've got the God of War Earth goddess the goddess of love UHS you're going to guess a god oh we're just guess yeah okay sorry um Hera I'm afraid that's not the answer ilman do you want to go for a bonus heres absolutely right for a bonus they are the Greek deities associated with the planet's nearest the sun coming in and for the planet Mercury You' think of the God Hermes and it's your turn to choose I Horus I of Horus first in a sequence coming up now doesn't mean anything yeah next please oh could be you's talk should we get the next one yeah go for next next please [Music] Russian that the first one looks Japanese and I wouldn't thought the Japanese were that 10 seconds three seconds chobble why um they're all nuclear power stations that have changed their name after accidents it's the wrong reason but it's the right answer so you're going to get the points for chobble they are nuclear accidents according to severity level 4 five 6 and 7 chobble the most serious nuclear accident you get the point radio addicts you will get the water question now of course you'll have noticed this time that we haven't yet had the picture question so this is it what would you expect to see in the fourth picture first one coming up now IND Indian flag flag um so we're going to need lus in Center I said Lotus next Victor M Victor so it's um it says it's the alphabet isn't it it's the um phonetic alphabet India right so India Victor Victor so what's it spelling IV ior Ian um well in next next and that's hands X ivx um it's the least used ones isn't it Q maybe what's Q quec okay right Quebec it's not it I'm afraid so over to the Alman for a possible bonus uh Lima why um well the first one is India which is I the NATO ftic alphabet and that's Roman numer for one then the next one is Victor which is the Roman num for for five and then the next one is x-ray ROM for 10 so the next ran along is L which must be Lima you're too good your opponents are applauding ferociously these are the lowest four Roman numerals converted into their equivalence in the NATO alphabet and next after X would be L that is Lemma we've chosen nice Lemma Bean there very well done all of which means at the end of round two the radio addicts have got three points but the alsman are ahead with [Music] 12 round three is the connecting wall 16 clues all jumbled I want the teams to sort them out into four neatly connected groups of four radio addict it's your turn to go first I will give you a point for each group you find a point for each connection and bonus points if you get them all but the first question is would you prefer lion or water well let's leave the Elman with water we'll take lion good thinking deep psychology so you'll be taking the lion wall you've got two and a half minutes to solve it starting now right uh what have we got here you got Mar Henry okay oh no so and Goodwin jar manini uh Goodwin and Zimmer try those okay that's going to be another combination Goodwin Herer manini and jar maybe okay let's think man well Clockwork Orange is what they call the tube in Glasgow that's the tube so we've got Clockwork Orange Bart is another one area rapid yes do we have another one there somewhere the L's in Chicago yep so that would be those four um so goofy hang T that's skateboarding so goofy and hang 10 and wipe out I believe in Sinister Al terms in skateboarding or snowboarding one of the two but oh hang on one point break a Point Break yeah wipe out Point breaker actually surfing aren they so Sinister no Sinister means Sinister would go with that that's left-handed left handed go is left hand left as 10 white yeah that's the Sinister go right so do so Sinister remember you only get three attempts oh yes which one which one goes with that you want left you want something with left it um well I think Zimmer would probably be the most likely one wouldn't it should we try that German for R isn't it it is so we try it okay so we've lost our goal there two lives remaining um but we know what they are it's just a question of um I think it's more likely to be goodwi these These are film composed right it' be good then you got a minute more likely okay so we try that one then South GH you've got and goodwi no one life left right uh is there any other thing apart from the being film composers there um sha Michelle jar is he really a film composer yes definitely Maurice or manini it's going to be is that anything to do with hand man all right just I didn't mean to that's it we've solved the war well done four points for those groups what about the connections then L Clockwork Orange tube B uh they're all uh mass transit underground um L's in Chicago Clockwork oranges in Glasgow tubes obviously in London so they're the kind of San Francisco San Francisco is B that's it Urban Transport Systems that's it for the point goofy Wipeout Point Break hang 10 uh I think surfing although I think some of them apply to skateboarding as well but we'll go with surfing if your answer is surfing I'll give you the point that's what it is next one Sinister manini southp go think Sinister is Latin for left G is French for left yeah South left what's your answer we're going with um left Left sided or left-handed they're all terms implying the left side left-handed I think you struggled with manini it's an Italian term for a left-handed person and the last group jaah Horner Zimmer Goodwin film compos film composer they are film composers as of course is manini that was one of the red herrings that were swimming around but you dodged it you got four points for the groups four points for the connections a bonus two points for getting it all right it's a maximum of 10 so let's bring back the alsman and see what they can do with their connecting wall 16 fresh clues in fact alsman I can tell you that your opponents have deliberately left you the water wall in the hope of triggering some kind of allergy so the water wall is waiting for you you've got 2 and a half minutes to solve it starting now mtis mtis is a dog papon's a dog dog's a dog PG's a dog Scooby's a dog not a breed though is it but I don't know l a dog was thinking that no hang on L's a cross Jag cross Cal cross M cross no no Celtic cross Celtic l l cross malt and Greek Greek cross to Poise you've got a minute left pug Celtic in Greek could be alphabets or language malt go for the cross the rain cross we've already done that that M right so papon's a dog yeah pug is a dog is a dog Scooby m is a dog bolog is no come on SO cross rain you've got 30 seconds Scooby-Doo and B keep working on do the mul you're under 10 seconds now try m [Music] no that's it the time's up the walls Frozen and you are going to be kicking yourselves so hard you're going to have blue ankles you'll get one point for the group you found another if you give me the connection Beamer caddy Jag roller nicknames for cars nickn names of BMW Cadillac jaguar and Rolls-Royce and you can still get connection points if you tell me those so let's resolve the wall Celtic Greek Lorraine Calvary cross those are the crosses Bolognese malse pug papion breeds of dog breeds of dog specifically lap dog you kept nearly putting Bolognese and then you didn't and the last group Scooby syrup Chevy plates they're a cotney rhyming slang that's cotney rhyming slang you you struggled with Chevy Chase face it's an obscure one welcome to only connect you still get a point for the group you found though and four more for the connection so that's a total of five let's see what that does to the scores going into round four the radio addict have got 13 points the almen are in the lead with 17 if you want to have a go at a connecting wall then go to our website the address is on the screen so that is a gap absolutely close enough to change in round four the missing vowels round we've taken the vows out of
