hi this is russell sana from teacher training videos calm this set of videos is gonna take you through the advanced features in padlet 2009 so i'm gonna start by showing you some examples of what I mean by advanced levels and these will really give you some of the ideas of how creative we can now be with padlet I'm going to show you how to make a padlet password-protected I'm then going to show you how you can allow students to add contributions or add comments underneath people's contributions and this is a great way of using Pathak because it means you can really extend the discussions and the debates now not only can you do that you can now actually rate different contributions as well so you can like contributions or you can grade them and again we can use this for competitions like we can add up pictures and get people to grade the different pictures or choose their favorite one or choose their favorite posts are lots more interaction now possible with padlet very different from the original wall where should the I remember I'm also going to show you look at videos because there are two different ways to add up videos and I just want to look at those two ways of working with video and finally I'm just going to talk about some of the levels in terms of editing and try to make that clear let's get straight into it if this is too advanced for you there's a link above on the screen now or in the description you'll also see it which will give you a link to the introductory videos in case you want to go through those before you start these advanced features but let's start let me quickly start by showing you some examples of some of these advanced features that are available those of you who know padlet from the days of war which will really be surprised to see how much padlet has come on and also what it means in terms of the creativity and the way that we can use it one of my favorite features is the ability now to kind of comment on people's posts and if we look at this example here where a company are talking about rebranding an interactive whiteboard and what we can see here is that people have put up their ideas and then other people have commented on those and if we look down actually we can see that the some some people have actually made a lot of comments about the ideas now you could do that same idea by putting up side pictures and then getting people to comment on them or putting up opinions and then get people to comment on them or putting up questions and if people write in their answers so this whole idea of being able to add comments underneath the different content of people pop up onto the screen is absolutely fantastic and it really does offer us lots of ways of working with padlet this is a really simple idea but it's working because now we've got the grid system that we can also use when we use padlet something again that wasn't available before so great for language learning at low levels what we've got here is different data of the week and in people underneath of put what chores they can do and the reason this will work now is because you can have this grid system so you can make sure that everything lays out on the screen nice and clearly now it's also possible to have the padlet so that one message or the next contribution comes underneath and this could be used for all sorts of things and here we've actually got an example of a diary but this could also be again a collection of comments or something that's perhaps going to be in some kind of order like what you're doing on Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday something like that and then people could add their contributions there's all sorts of ways that this could be used and again we're benefiting here from the layout so let's giving you some ideas now I'm gonna actually show you how to do all these features so the first thing we're gonna look at is how you can password protect one of your padlet so I'm just gonna come over to a padding that I've just recently produced here and what I'm gonna do with this palette is I'm gonna set it now so that it's password protected to do that it's the share button that I need to click on and if I click on that share button what I can do is come down and change the privacy levels and this time I'm going to set it to password protected now I need then to and the password so I'm just written in here 1 2 3 4 will do for this example 3 4 I'm actually going to show you the password working so that you can clearly see it and then click on save so what you've done now is you've actually set it so the only way to access this particular padlet is if you have the password so let's now actually see that in action so I'm just going to click back here and we're gonna grab the actual link to this password ok so all we need to do to do that just gonna close that down easiest way is to in fact we can do it from the bottom here we can click on copy link to clipboard so I'm gonna click on that link now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to log in on another browser so that we can see what happens if a student tries to log in to this particular padlet and you'll see that they all need a password to access it so let's add in the actual link so I'm just gonna paste in that link as if I was a student and then I'm gonna click on the enter button it's gonna bring me in but you notice it's here I need the password and if I write 1 2 3 4 and now click on submit I will actually be able to enter that particular padlet and now I can begin to add my contributions by clicking on the screen and writing whatever I want to write etc so that's a great feature if you want to make one of your padlets password-protected one of the interesting features that I showed you at the beginning was this ability now to be able to comment on people's contribution so you can comment on their videos on their pictures or on what they have written and I'm gonna show you how to do this I've opened up one of my older padlets all I need to do is click on this button here Andy on here I simply come down and below one of the settings is allow comments I'm just gonna click on that and then need to click on save if I close this down there you'll notice in fact that it says add comments now to make this more interesting I'm gonna log in now as and that person so as a student and show you exactly what that would look like so if I click on the share button and simply just copy to the clipboard this link and now what I'm going to do on another browser is I'm gonna log in and have a quick look at so I'm on another browser here and I'm gonna actually quickly log into that particular padlet and now I'm gonna look at one of look it's a comment on the screen let's perhaps take this comment here from Galera and notice I can add my own comment underneath so I can write that comment in what you do need to do is to click on this little button here to add that comment so that comment has now been added below Guu Lara's original post and if we come back now we can now see that underneath Galeras post there is this common which in this case was anonymous because i simply just logged in and wrote it in so you can see how useful this could be because it could be a matter of adding up pictures and in getting people to comment on them or add questions to people to write their answers it could be you know comments on websites or videos etc so lots of different ways of using this feature that could kind of make working with padlet a lot more creative now just jump back to the gallery because I want to show you this additional feature as one of the last things I want to show you in padlet that I really like and again I think it's added to the kind of levels of creativity in terms of the way the technology can be used if we click on this example here what we can see is that people have added up pictures and then other people have voted on them so if we look here and I'll just look at lilies we can see that she's been graded by 367 points and an average mark of nine out of ten whereas this one here got an average mark of eight out of ten so it is possible not only to allow students to comment on posts but also to vote on them or to grade them and there are lots of ways again that this could be used for example in some sort of competition or if you for example want people to read all the different comments and then vote on the one they like the best I can see this being used in lots of different ways so let me just show you again in the settings how you would do that so in any of your padlets if you click this time on the modify button and come down to the settings and we've already looked at one of these which is the ability here to add comment so we can turn that on but one below this is another feature that I really like reactions and if you click on that you can allow for example people to like posts or people to vote on posts or people to star posts or even people to great posts now notice that you can only choose one of those and I actually think that's a really good idea but any of these features are really powerful and I'm just gonna show you one of them in action so we'll choose grade so you can grade up to a maximum of a hundred and again I'm gonna close that down now that I've added that click on save and what we're gonna do now is again log in as another student so we're just going to close that down get the link again so click on share copy that link I'm gonna log in as a student and show you what that would look like okay so I'm now logged in as a student and look what I can do I can simply come down and underneath any of the posts you'll notice it now says grade I click here and I can add my grade so for example I'm gonna say that this one is worth 94 out of a hundred okay and simply add my grade and in fact I don't think I need to do anything else I just simply click and that has now been added on to that one and so we could ask people to grade the different posts or videos or images or contributions and then what happens is paddling show what the average grade is now we've got two different ways that we can upload videos into padlet we can actually directly upload a video and I've done that here and we can see that I can lay down video home and I've also done it here by using videos from YouTube my advice is to try to use videos from YouTube notice also that in this particular case I've got it set to can add comments and it's one of the ways I think that padlet can work really well so we can put up videos onto padlet and then get students to comment on those videos underneath after watching them and I think it's a lot of value in that just to go through how you can add video and quickly just make this absolutely clear if I click here the two options that we're really working from first of all we can click on this button here and we can actually pick a file and find the video on our computer so for example here I've got one and I would click on that and simply upload that now I'm not quite sure what the limit is in terms of the size but it can't be that big because you are actually limited to the size of your complete padlet so my advice in most case is you're not trying to do that but rather to add a link now to add the link all you need to do is click here and of course you need to get the URL of the actual video that you're wanting to work with so if I just quickly jump over just one second to say my website here and grabbed the video from my website so any video that you find on YouTube all you need to do is click on the share button and simply click on copy it grabs that link now if we come back to our padlet and simply paste in that link so we paste it in click on save and that will then add to the video in so it's always important when you've got a video on YouTube to copy from the share button the link that's there that's the one you need and you can then use that on your padlet as I said working with videos into great idea but particularly a good idea to encourage people to add comments underneath videos perhaps give them a question to answer at the beginning they watch the videos and then add their comments now one final thing I want to do is just explain to you a couple of things about the settings when you create a padlet sometimes it confuses people so I just want to make this absolutely clear and also give you a little bit of advice so when you click on the share button here you are if you click on change the privacy levels you can set the privacy levels so it can either be any of these different ways of accessing the content and I normally do it public but then you've got the level of permission once they've accessed it well what can they do can they edit can they write can they just read it so my normal way is either to use password or to use public and I've showed you how to use password and then the settings are here and you've got three they can either read your padlet but they can't make any contributions they can write in the in the padlet and then they can edit now normally you don't need to set Eddie if you're perhaps working with another teacher so I would generally avoid that because it means that actually a person can make a lot of changes to your padlet what you really want is to allow them to be able to simply write in the in in the padlet and that they will still be able to do things like for example common and vote etc so that is just something I wanted to point out because it does create a lot of confusion generally I keep away from Eddie unless I'm working with other teachers who I want them to be able to have kind of the same editing levels as me okay I really hope you liked that video I really think that padlet has come on and I actually like some of the recent additions that they've done they really do allow it to be quite a creative tool now especially with this idea I've been out to grade and like things and comment on them etc really hope you like that video if you did please like it please share it please comment on it and please help me to build up
