hey guys welcome back to my channel today's video is going to be a comparison review between two different styling tools and they look very similar so this is the revlon one step styler that i know so many people use and love this is the hot tools version of that tool and i told you guys in a recent video that i wanted to do this i actually did just upload a comparison review between the original one-step styler from revlon and their new and improved version so they're upgrades so if you want to see if that upgrade is really worth the purchase or if i truly think it's an upgrade i will link that video below if you haven't seen that yet but in that video i said i'm still on the hunt for something to fit my needs perfectly and this is not quite it so that is why i purchased this hot tools version we're going to talk about both of these here today what some of the benefits are if there really is a major difference between them at the end of the day and of course i will show you how both of these work on my hair so you can kind of decide for yourself if you think that this hot tools one is worth the purchase if you already have this revlon one so without further ado let's jump right into it okay so i know that so many of you guys already have this revlon brush you don't really need an explanation on it but in case you don't personally have it and don't really know much about it i did want to quickly explain what it is for what it's all about so this is basically a styling tool that is supposed to dry and style your hair all at once so instead of blow drying your hair and then going in with a separate styling tool this is just supposed to cover all of your bases so it says it's supposed to give you a blowout and half the time that it would normally take you to achieve that kind of look so with a blow dryer and a round brush which is the most tedious thing ever i'm not kidding that takes me probably an hour and a half so i stopped doing that and that's why i was really drawn to this at first because it's supposed to just make it so much quicker and easier for you to do it yourself on your own head of hair so some of the things that revlon claims this is supposed to do for you is to help you to achieve a smooth sleek detangle look that is nice and styled and has volume they say that this is supposed to give you volume near the root which we'll get to and also just give you a nice sleek style look on the ends and just rest of your hair so this is something that has a combination of two different kinds of bristles it has what they call nylon pin bristles or just nylon pins and they are these longer plastic pins and then tufted bristles as well which are shorter and smaller and softer and there's a tuft of them combined so that combination of the two is what is supposed to allow you to detangle the hair while you're styling it oh i really needed to brush through that you guys get the gist and this has three different settings on it so it has a cool heat setting and a hot heat setting and then has the option to toggle between low and high and speed so you have a little bit of flexibility with how you get to use it but this is not detachable so you get what you get you don't make a fit oh my gosh my mom used to say that to us all the time when we were little anyone else you get what you get and you don't make a fit anyway so this is not detachable this is what you get it retails for 59.99 so 60 for this tool i did see that they have a version of this tool called the titanium max version and it's smaller than this and has slightly different plating i believe it's titanium plating which is why it's called that but it's only available at costco it's not even on revlon's website so i was very confused by that i didn't know if that was a new launch i don't think that it said new i feel like something like that should be on revlon's website if it's legit and a new product that they're coming out with right you can't get that ulta target anywhere else i've seen at this point at least when i'm filming this video that carries this original brush so i don't really know what that's all about i haven't personally tried that but this is just basically the one that you're going to find everywhere else when you compare that to the hot tools version of this tool you can see i mean they look like the same thing because they pretty much have the same exact thing going on but a couple things that are different about this hot tools version is number one that the barrel is smaller which is definitely what i was looking for so you can see it's quite a bit smaller than this revlon one and that is what i wanted because i felt like this was just too big it was too big it was not working for me so that's one of the reasons i was drawn to this and the other is that it's actually detachable which i think is really cool so it gives you the option to attach different heads to get different styles out of the same base so instead of buying multiple tools for sixty dollars a piece you could buy one that is a little bit pricier but then have the option to add on heads like this that are more affordable and then i feel like that is a better cost savings at the end of the day right so this one retails for 79.99 with the small head included and then just this brush right here which is called their straight and smooth attachment is 39.99 so still not affordable or cheap by any means but again cheaper than a whole separate tool so this one is supposed to give you smooth straight hair and then this one is supposed to give you that blowout effect and i have to say claims are essentially the same between these two products there's really no difference aside from one which is that this claims to have charcoal infused boar bristles so the little tufts that are also the same thing here are supposed to have charcoal infused in them which they say is supposed to give you a smoother sleeker look which we'll get to but other than that same exact settings it's like the same font the base of these are the same thing cool low high same bristle setup aside from the apparent charcoal it has the tufted boar bristles and these nylon pins there's just there's no difference between them as far as that goes the one other difference is the head of the tool so you can see there the very top that little knob so this hot tools one is a little bit smaller and has a grip on it which i actually really like for styling purposes so i'll talk about how i use this this revlon one i just feel like this is i mean it doesn't really do anything for me it's not really something you can easily hold on to i never use that personally so those are the high level i mean differences kind of not really between these two tools so as far as description goes and the actual setup same thing so let's jump into the actual application clips now so you guys can see for yourself how these work on my hair so i have to say as far as just general performance and ability to dry and straighten and smooth the hair they felt pretty much identical to me i really didn't notice a difference i didn't feel like the charcoal that's apparently there was doing anything for my hair i don't know if you guys will feel differently obviously this is just my personal experience with my hair but i have to be completely honest i didn't notice any difference in that sense i do feel like this hot tools one maybe has a little bit more power so maybe it dried my hair a little bit faster than the revlon option but minuscule difference for me at the end of the day not something that would warrant an additional purchase but what did warrant the additional purchase for me was this smaller head for sure so i actually first started off with that paddle brush and i like to do that with any tools like this is just use it more so as a brush to help to start to dry my hair and start to detangle a little bit but i just don't think that i need a whole separate attachment for that what it just does is make your hair look really straight without much volume or body to it so if you already have a lot of volume you may love that paddle brush attachment that could be perfect for you but i think for me with hair that already just dries pretty flat and straight i just don't really have a need for that i can just use this as a brush kind of a waste of a purchase for me i guess aside from letting you guys know my thoughts on it so that one i would just say is worth skipping also the other thing about that let me grab it why do i keep throwing these things on the floor when i need them it hurt my head for sure so this is a little bit different because it has mainly the nylon pins on the ends just on both sides gosh that hair is so gross it has the little boar bristles there but not throughout the entire brush and that hurt like i could feel it tugging and pulling on my scalp it just wasn't very comfortable to use so didn't love that and then i wasn't able to quickly switch back and forth between the two attachments seemed like i could in theory but when it was so hot i had to be really careful and wait a little bit so it's not like you can just jump back and forth within seconds you know which i thought would be nice but it just kind of ended up being a pain so this one not worth it for me but you may really love it but when i switched the head to this smaller head that is where my opinion changed and i immediately fell in love and was like yes i feel like this is exactly what i've been looking for so not only does that smaller size allow me to get up close to my root to get volume there it also allows me to style the ends of my hair and especially where i have layers with more precision which is what i was not really able to do with the revlon tool i just felt like my layers were starting to look super frayed and just it didn't have the sleek look through and through it's like partially sleek and not all over and i feel like i can achieve that much easier with this tool right here and the other reason i love it is because of the difference in knob i guess we'll call it right here so because it's just smaller in size and has grips on it i could use that kind of as leverage to quickly spin this tool through the ends of my hair and that actually allowed me to get more flip at the end so it flipped inwards towards me i would say it just had a bouncier look than i can get with the revlon one because i could really quickly do that and while you can curve the revlon tool in the same way it's just not as fast and of course it's bigger so i like how the ends of my hair look a lot better with this hot tools version but again other than that there's no difference between the two as far as how they actually work and just the basic idea behind this tool they're the same thing and i would have to guess i'm gonna venture out to say that pretty much any brand that carries a brush that looks just like this is pretty much going to work in the exact same way unless there's something majorly different with the actual component or bristles or something like that but i feel like there are so many replicas of this out there and clearly i mean for me they actually work the exact same so if you don't have a need for a smaller head like this or you're not interested in one that is detachable that allows you to attach different heads save your money i personally don't think it's worth the purchase but if you could benefit from a smaller head and a detachable head at that then i do think that it's worth the purchase and it was for me i'm super excited to have this i'm not going to use revlon one step styler anymore because this is better this is exactly what i needed so i will give my revlon to one of my sisters or friends and they will love it but it's just it's not for me anymore so i don't really think it's worth testing out a bunch of these same exact tools from different brands i did actually oh my gosh i tested out the ghd what is that called rise styling wand this like 200 styling wand and that is very different so i was expecting that to work differently it's actually not a hot airbrush it just is hot you're supposed to use it on dry hair it ripped my hair out of my head i have never had a tool do that to my hair i followed the video exactly i watched how they said to use it step by step i did everything that they said eli walked in when the panic was happening i swear i had a cold sweat over my entire body my hair got stuck in it and i had to rip it out of my head i'm gonna show a picture here so you guys can see what is that not terrifying so i just think that maybe that tool is not designed for longer hair i feel like people are going to be like you didn't use it correctly but i looked and there were other reviews not a ton of reviews but there were others that were from people that also had long hair that said the same thing this ripped my hair out wouldn't personally recommend that one i couldn't believe that was so expensive and i just lost a bunch of hair from it so it's been a journey in testing out different tools and i'm happy to have found one that does exactly what i need it to do for now i'm sure i'll test out more in the future especially if you guys enjoy these kinds of reviews but i have my new styling tool so that's it for this comparison review i definitely was a little bit bummed that there wasn't a bigger difference between the two products because i feel like that's a little bit more interesting to watch but at the same time hopefully this is more helpful for you so you can save some of your extra money and use that on something else so very curious to hear you guys thoughts in the comments below do you
