One of the most DOMINANT seasons EVER! Dwight Gooden's 1985 was special

[Music] in that first week of the season dwight gooden forewarned the national league that his second season would be even better than his first on april 14th dr k won his first of 24 victories firing a four hit shutout at the cincinnati reds striking out 10 on the way to a 4-0 final by the end of the day the mets were the only undefeated team remaining in major league baseball runner goes strike three call ten strikeouts for goodin but most importantly another new york met victory francisco in all kinds of weather dwight gooden had a scintillating sophomore season winning 24 while losing just four with an earned run average of 1.53 the best in the major leagues his final grade y okay of course among his many accomplishments 14 victories without a loss and check this out a streak of 49 innings that's 49 innings without giving up an earned run 13 strikeouts in eight and two thirds for the doctor jose uribe the only giant goodin has not struck out strike two so the doctor can finish with a big flourish here with a two-strike count on trevino and having already struck out the first two batters here in the bottom of the nine looking to strike out the side he does it dwight gooden strikes out 14 san francisco giants and picks up his seventh win of the year a 2-1 new york victory as they sweep this brief two-game series in san francisco with a pair of one-run victory [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] crack three and reigns is the first at the hall of fame ceremonies there's a curve and goodbye and the one-two pitch fastball and he has struck out the side an auspicious beginning good comparison not a switch hitter of course oh man what a breaking ball fitzgerald the batter is the curveball at first time uh and there it is again fifth inning [Applause] strike three jay were ever rooting for one particular strikeout this is it gooden strikes out the side here in the fifth inning two strikes a count and another one dawson three curveballs and out of there a one two three inning strikeout number eight and the score at the end of five and a half innings the expo's nothing and that's nothing it's in the fifth breaking ball got him ninth strikeout for goodman but gooden wants the curve there goes reigns curveball struck him out strikeout number 10 for dwight goodman dwight gooden has struck out 16 to tie his career high he has won his 13th game in a row it is his 13th complete game and sixth shutout of the year his record is now 19 and three he has an opportunity to become the youngest player to win 20 games in one season that of course will have he'll have an opportunity to do that in his next start but what a performance by the doctor as he and daryl strawberry celebrate one and two the count struck him out with a fastball second inning ralph connor along with fran healy and tim mccarver bringing you the play by play and strike three so good and gets his second inning again the bun attempt and the curveball he'll get him so good 69 rbi [Applause] and strike three and goodin powers him out with that good swung out and missed right three what's up big strike or the national league record with 26 2-2 pitch swung on a miss strike three one out express lane and that's with one passenger right there dwight goods against it swung on this strike three his eighth strikeout i'll tell you a funny story about that swinging a miss ninth strikeout for goodin 28 starts this year swing and a miss ten strikeouts for dwight goodman and scored two runs in the first two innings before he had the four swing and a miss struck him out 31 consecutive innings in a row at dwight gooden has not allowed a run for the fourth inning gooden strikes out the side here he gets bob brentley it's his eighth strikeout in the game and his 200th strikeout on the season for dwight gooden on the top of the ninth he strikes out bob dear to end the ball game it's his 16th strike out of the game that ties his career high he now has 13 complete games it's his 13th straight win and goodin who came into the game leading the national league and e.r.a pitches his sixth shutout of the season
