NZXT Made a Gaming Keyboard...

alfred no what are you gonna watch it and you're gonna like what are you making me watch just watch it hip yo okay no no why are you dancing okay sometimes my videos are hard to complete this video on the other hand was the hardest video to make of any of my videos not because of some type of big challenge but because of pure incompetency i almost said that wrong that would have been kind of awkward did i say that one it's not the point that's not the point these keyboards from nzxt i'll just show you [Music] what i wear the north face i don't want this in my keyboards you glued the wires i'm done i quit keyboards canceled they were so close to greatness well if you thought i was riled up now wait till you see the rest of the video howdy hey i'm hippiotech and in this video i get unreasonably mad at the brand new keyboards from nzxt so let's start with what are these keyboards nzxt is known for letting you build your own custom computers without having to do the actual building you've probably seen them on linus tech tips or something like that well in this case they've created something to compete with the kikron q1 and gm mk pro hopefully without the 30 shipping tag oh my gosh the gmmk pro is this expensive now 255 dollars what so this keyboard is decently affordable but is it any good hmm well first things first this keyboard was around 165 dollars customized but full disclosure nzxt sent me all of their keyboards for free there's three different models of keyboard that they're launching a mini tkl a normal tkl and a full size keyboard i'm not going to talk about the other two just the mini tkl in this video now as i showed before their web configurator for building these things is super handy and honestly i would have loved something like that when i was building my first keyboard so props to them for that but we're gonna be talking about some of the issues that i had with that later before i talk about the issues though let's talk about the accessories yay now you already saw a switch puller keycap puller and a bunch of spare keycaps i guess these are nice oh okay these are accents so with our fancy little accent keycaps it's time to look at the keyboard and okay i went with the purple accents here because i thought they would look cool but i was a little bit wrong they let you customize those little color pops and go with the blue it's just better in every way about the keyboard itself though they call it a mini tkl and as you can see here it's like a 75 but with an extra row on the right similar to a child that will only eat beans i'm very picky and i prefer not having that extra row uh it's a little bit of extra mouse space and that's kind of nice now i can't give up the arrow keys i'm picky for those two we're not gonna have this conversation today what's this is this a knob oh my british viewers stop stop it's just a knob just a man getting excited about a knob nothing to see here yeah so there's a volume knob and boy i sure hope nothing happens to this later in the video but yeah it lets you control the volume up and down there's also some buttons here for manual lighting control which is very nice now at this point in the video you're like okay you're not angry yet what's going on why why have you not gotten angry yet i'm here to see angry hippia oh don't you worry he's on the way very soon but ooh look pretty lights pretty lights yay so the lighting on this keyboard is rgb it's controllable with their nzxt software it wasn't a bad software it was a software i can't i can't knock it it's okay it exists it's not via though now that i've got the keyboard in a compromising position let's take a look at its butt so unlike the kikron q2 and gm mk pro that are aluminium this board is plastic unapologetically plastic i don't care about plastic now the plate is made out of metal but the board is plastic so normally in cheap boards there might be some issues with stabilizers and let's take a look at that wait why what are you kidding me what does this say what is it the north face the north face i wear the north face i don't want this in my keyboards what the hell i still have to build this okay fine if you're new to keyboards that probably made absolutely no sense and let me make this a little bit easier for you so this board has north facing leds basically what that means is that the leds are on the top orientation with the switches this changes the way you put the switches in and causes interference in the middle row with cherry profile keycaps so basically no cherry profile keycaps with this board which is a lot of them speaking of switches however this board comes with the option of blues browns or reds but also two different silent switches for an extra seventy dollars i have the silent blacks here and if you want these switches buy them from a different vendor they're cheaper like a lot cheaper this board also features only plate mount stabilizers and they were bone dry meaning they're going to rattle a lot here here's a here's a little preview yes so that was with silence switches so as is i honestly can't recommend anybody buy this fully built so i'm now going to make this thing bare bones in an attempt to show what it would be like to build it from scratch i'm also going to deploy literally everything in my arsenal to make this sound as good as possible we're going to get this thing open and kind of figure that out i'm going to leave no stone unturned i'm going to try and mod everything hopefully nothing hinders that at all now oh here's a bonus point this keyboard is hot swap meaning that you can remove and add switches without desoldering this is huge that's good good bonus point you get one point there you go however it's also a tray mount which means you get virtually no flex in your typing experience and it's incredibly stiff this leads to a pretty harsh bottom out when typing and an overall non-premium typing experience for 120 okay let's just get it apart and wow it was actually way harder to get apart than i thought there was something stopping me like some type of force like i don't really oh no no you glued the wires glued the wires are you kidding me zero out of ten i'm done i quit keyboard's over keyboards are finished cancelled why god stop it look i just want to put stuff in keyboards all right i just want to put play-doh in keyboards i just want to put tape on keyboards this is my job this is what i do and you glued the wires nzxt next what's next you're gonna glue the freaking keycaps on that's kind of just like soldering the switches in you get the point done again yeah i have no idea why they glued the wires it's the most anti-enthusiast thing ever making it really hard to mod this keyboard now i could probably melt it with some type of hair dryer or something or a soldering iron but i'm not gonna do that yeah that just sounds awful thankfully this keyboard at least already comes with foam pre-installed so we don't really have to worry about that but wait oh no yeah when i was taking it apart it was so hard to take apart that the metal actually bent now i'm a little bit dumb but i'm not that dumb so i was definitely taking it apart the right way i don't really know what happened there so unfortunately i can't really deploy any mods to the case itself well at least not easily but i can make these stabilizers have some form of lube on them which will make it sound good and i can mod the exterior of the case with little bits of tape to keep the stabilizers from wiggling around i'm going to give this board the best possible shot and one part of that being the best possible shot is these lubed gather on milky yellows if you want to pick up some gatorade milky yellows you can check them out it keeps for all in the description use code hypo to save five percent uh there's lube in there too in the description not not in the switches those are the you get the point these are one of my favorite wait i'm not allowed to say that um this is a good linear switch and i really like them lubed up now the silent black switches could be good lubed if you're looking for a silent build but i don't really like them very much so i'm not going to be using them oh this is a sus meme why are you putting this on screen the silent switches had a lot of ping so they wouldn't be very good on lubed and keep in mind that's their premium option so let me just use my little hippo magic and put these in and i forgot to record the second part i mean a cast the second part of the spell if you don't want your keyboard to look really weird i recommend using tape that matches the color of your keyboard case instead of bright blue tape but you know it's about sending a message so you know those leds were talking about earlier the the north face yeah those because they're north facing we can't use cherry profile keycaps without getting some type of audible interference i know there's switches that get around that and just don't worry about that part so i'll be using some mt3 iron mans these will make the keyboard sound as as possible uh but we'll actually see if that's true you can also check these out in the description basically we've given the board the best possible chance of sounding good and i won't spoil it but i gotta be honest maybe i was a little bit too harsh but i think the core of my message is they had the chance to do all of these things like south facing leds plate mount stabilizers a better mounting system maybe better case materials and they didn't they had all the resources they had google they knew what's good they had youtube they were so close to greatness so close looking at their product checkout i was like wow this is fantastic this is great let's do more of this looking at their product i wanted to die i maybe i'm being a little bit dramatic i'm very dramatic i took drama in first grade but you know come
