hi everyone it's Sarah and today I'm continuing my neighborhood series in Williamsburg Brooklyn I've already done Dumbo Greenwich Village and Midtown and we're here today I love Williamsburg with its laid-back atmosphere art galleries and incredible restaurants so today I'm gonna bring you through what your perfect day looks like here but before I get into that I would like to tell you some things that I think you should know before coming here like is it safe what's the culture what's the history how much does it cost and things like that so for some reason if you don't want to learn about what you should know before coming to Williamsburg then you can skip to this time stamp right here but until then let's just begin this journey and by the way this is my perfect one day itinerary it was very hard to do one day and was very because there's just so many great restaurants and bars and things to do so I have an entire guide to Williamsburg below if you would like that for even more tips on awesome things to do in this neighborhood alright let's begin our perfect day in Williamsburg Brooklyn [Music] I [Music] so where is Williamsburg well Williamsburg is in Brooklyn with Greenpoint on the north plus wick on the east bed-stuy on the south and the East River on the west there are several different ways to get to Williamsburg you can take the J M or Z train the G train or the L train pretty much any train suits in this location brings you to Williamsburg the most popular station is Bedford Ave right here but you can also take a bike or walk across the Williamsburg Bridge so what is the culture well Williamsburg is the tale of a former working-class area turned into New York's most trendy location it's a total different contrast to the busy and strict and stressful life you find in Manhattan and that's what's great about Williamsburg it has a very carefree vibe it just makes life relaxing this area has four distinct communities in it gentrify errs artists and musicians Hasidic Jews and Puerto Ricans artists musicians and gender fires are sometimes referred to as hipsters and they are in the northern section of Williamsburg directly below them are the Puerto Ricans section called low Su days and that's getting increasingly smaller and below that you have a large population of Hasidic Jews and they also kind of go along the east side of it the Hasidic community has a completely different vibe than the other communities because they are very determined not to gentrify and maintain a more traditional community so what's great about Williamsburg is you have these four different communities that are all together and it really represents from New York City is such a melting pot into such a small neighborhood so how much does it cost to go to Williamsburg again it just as the cost of a subway ticket really but if you want to live here the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment is about two thousand nine hundred and forty dollars per month and the cost to live here is about 26% higher than the average in New York yeah kind of expensive it's because of all those jets or fires oh I'm kidding don't be mad at me so is Williamsburg safe yes it is very safe actually the crime rate here is a 19 percent below the national average so what is the history of Williamsburg well in the 1800s Williamsburg was very industrial with foundries breweries and various factories they even had a shipyard one of the factories is right behind me this is the Domino Sugar Factory now it's part of Domino Park which is a beautiful park overlooking the New York City skyline in the early 1900s Williamsburg became a melting pot community with cold Italians Jews and other groups in the 1970s this area deteriorated and was considered quite dangerous in the 1990s low rents attracted young professionals and artists to move to Williamsburg from around the world today Williamsburg has enjoyed a major rebirth and it's considered a hotspot in New York [Music] unlike other neighborhood guides were actually going to be starting this one in a different pearl and then is because they're gonna be bike riding today that's right we're going to be going from the Lower East Side to Williamsburg over the Williamsburg Bridge we're gonna see abdominal cargo along of the waterfront and goes to East River State Park so do that I recommend using city bike that's what I'm using now it makes it super easy it's three dollars for 30 minutes or you can do a day pass for 12 dollars which is also pretty cheap I actually for this I recommend doing the $3.00 for 30 minutes if you don't have the city bike pass because we're gonna be biking for about an hour and it will be less than the twelve dollars that you spent on the bay pass okay so with that said if you want to learn how to get the city like download the app I also have a video on how to get the city bike that I'll link below but let's go let's start our journey I'll see you there [Music] a lovely place her brunch or lunch is here it's called house of wonder and this place serves Japanese this is that naturally have an European taste and I know that sounds kind of crazy but it's super cute because the waitress is actually wear Berets now they have a Japanese brunch here it is fabulous so I highly recommend that the cool thing about this though is there's two trees that are actually growing through the restaurant and throughout the entire space there's little plants and things like that so you actually feel like you're in a treehouse here this is located on North 6ab in Williamsburg and I highly recommend you check it out when you come here it's unlike most restaurants in the city one of the things that Williamsburg is known for is the wide array of a vintage and sustainable shops that are in this neighborhood and that's why I recommend you come shopping here I have so many good stores here to ones that I love actually right next to each other right here we have Berlin 65 and they have a lot of cute little jewelry pieces and then right behind it is a shop called the better shop and all of the goods in there are ethically produced and sustainable they also have some vintage items as well the two best streets to go shopping on our Bedford and Grand Street you'll definitely get some awesome awesome shopping and experiences and just a lot of great stuff they can bring home by the way one of the things you should look out for while you're shopping here is the amazing street art like the one behind me there's street hour all over Williamsburg because it was once an artist community so enjoy that in between shops this is the Brooklyn Flea now they do this every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from April to October and here you're gonna find vintage and trip clothes and including like Chanel Gucci Prada stuff like that for low prices you'll also find local designer items like jewelry paintings other various artwork so if you're looking to get a taste of what Williamsburg is all about this is a great place to come because the stuff that you're gonna find here you're not going to find anywhere else for some of the most epic views of Manhattan from Brooklyn to come here to West light this is at the William Vale hotel on the rooftop and the views are absolutely ridiculous it perfectly frames the Empire State Building right in the center and on the roof they have turf and cornhole so you can play that game it's a perfect way to spend time with friends well I got here this is called the punt a bit real this drink has banana pineapple lime and ghost aura the Bacardi Rum it works perfectly with this and they use a dried lemon to top it off so really beautiful cocktail the thing I love about this place is they have incredible craft cocktails tons of craft beer and wine so you really can't go wrong with no matter what you order especially when the view looks like this so definitely bring your camera because this is an Instagram bloggers dream a great dinner spot is this place this is the monarch theatre restaurant and here they serve small and large plate Asian food the interesting thing about this restaurant is it actually used to be an old theatre so you can kind of see that with the interior another great part about it is they have this beautiful open-air patio which is a rare find in Williamsburg there's not tons of open-air patios that you can dine on and they have tons of different Asian dishes it's all sharing which is nice if you're in a group we got a bunch of different things we got some chicken dumplings we got some shrimp dumplings pork belly brussel sprouts with avocado this is the chicken laksa wide egg noodles and they also have pretty good cocktails as well by the way so it's a nice spot for dinner and actually a fun thing about it is I used seated which is an applic you get money back if you make a reservation through it and I use seated to get this reservation so once we're finished dining I'm gonna redeem those the reward points I have a whole video on this by the way on how to dine for cheap in New York and it's an amazing app so I'm about to get 25% back on this meal but uh let's just go in I really want to try this one a chicken dumpling it looks really good that is great spicy crispy savory alright I'm gonna finish this meal and I'll see you at our nightlife locations so get ready for a fun night out after dinner it is time to have a fun night out we are here at freehold this is my friend Jen she also has a YouTube channel that's about New York City and travel and you're from Williamsburg yeah okay tell me why you love prequel oh my god so many reasons I love this spot because you can come during the day and it's a co-working space you can bring your laptops to work eat and then later at night it turns into a whole party there's even free food and an amazing happy hour right before a bunch of people show up and the music starts pumpin you've got teams you've got a whole theme room I love just like you know tossing money at the game it's just glorious and fun the drunker you get it's amazing yes we had my last grade yeah that was fun and we were playing games at the end of the night and I was pretty horrible I either it's fine but it was just so fun they have a DJ and sometimes they have live music so check their calendar online to see what's coming up because there's always a lot of stuff going on here at freehold so I think we should go enjoy the night I think we should all right let's do it [Music] thanks for watching if you like this video you might also like my other neighborhood guys I have them on Dumbo Greenwich Village and Midtown but more are always coming soon and also if you want a deeper dive into Williamsburg make sure you check out my Williamsburg guide which is linked below I hope to see you next time bye [Music]
