[Music] hello Internet I'm in the process of uh disassembling this um um what is this RTX 8000 Quadro that came in earlier today actually yesterday it's 2:00 in the morning right now um um I I haven't taken it apart I just kind of quickly looked over um with the uh multimeter for resistances and I found 2.5 ohms though I'm not exactly sure where I have 2.5 ohms here either on 1.8 or on memory I think it's on memory which is kind of scary uh 2.5 ohms is very low even considering the fact that what do we have here so these are 2 GB chips so 24 gigs here 24 gigs on the back so 48 GB memory on this little baby and it makes me wonder I don't think 2.5 ohms is acceptable um I could probably look let's see if I can find any uh visual reference to the measurements of this particular card uh I have 5,000 5,000 had 15 ohms but it had chips only on one side uh 2,37 [Music] ohms um I guess I never really bother to make a record of that but today we're all going to find out today we're going to find out whether or not 2 and 1/2 ohms or just under 3 ohms is normal for these cards who knows it might be it's kind of sad that they do not have any back plates nothing is protected these things get stacked uh close together side by side in a either a server uh type of U setups very special motherboards special everything whatever and it's very sad that they do not um build these things to uh to protect all that circuit on the back not to mention they don't even put fuses on here so if say a driver M set shorts out there's nothing to uh protect the circuit from blowing a hole onto the board you pay several thousand dollar for this thing and it doesn't even come with with the 50 Cent fuse so now the dilemma I'm facing now is um taking it apart let's see got to make sure I got all the screws out yeah come on there we go slowly carefully all right so there it is it looks like it has never been taken apart and uh it looks like the chips that are at the bottom uh I wonder if that's compound it's kind of hard to say kind of hard to see let me switch you over to a microscope so we can have a look do you think that compound there or is that or is that just silicon residue no it's compound which is very depressing uh because if if there's any issues with the memory chips that are in this area uh a sure way sure way to remove any of them without damaging the board would be to to sacrifice the chip all four of them because they're so close together so hopefully it's not going to come down to that um my main concern is the uh voltage uh is the resistance on memory which was yeah 2.3 ohms so what is this here this is probably peex and this is probably 1.8 which is very concerning so it looks like we got a short this could be PEX so let me look let me look real quick at a at a 2080 TI for example let's see let's look at the 280 TI just a refence design which one's which what is this okay so that's PEX that was normal and that's 1.8 so we have a short on 1.8 and we have a short on memory which is wonderful okay so first order of business I want to see what's pulling the 1.8 down Soo 79 ohms or whatever is on there it is absolutely not normal see right there 73 ohms this is absolutely not normal so what I want to do I want to Let's power the board and see what it does well actually no we're not going to power the board we're just going to power our voltage injector and we will be injecting uh one volt hopefully we will find a glowing memory chip that's not at the bottom of the board has too many hopes in once am I getting it I'm pulling 0.32 of an amp which is very low so I'm going to have a look around and uh actually let's see if I can inject one volt into memory maybe we'll find um something on memory so the memory is pulling almost 1 amp and we can see something's warming up in this corner here so my guess is is if we flip the chip over now I got to find which one of these caps is the memory rail so is this the ground yeah so this chip here this chip here is short for whatever reason oh I think I see what the reason is let's have a closer look right there see the Little Neck so my guess is uh something hit this chip from the top uh blowing his brains out and it is now shorting uh both 1.8 and uh uh the memory rail so let's go ahead and replace this chip uh real quick uh hopefully we can get that done before it th o in the morning and uh and uh see if if that helps so let me go ahead and a this guy out and I sure do have a few in here are we dealing with hc16 uh no it's an hc14 so we don't want to I mean we can it's not going to hurt it little faster chip little faster than the rest it's not going to cause any trouble uh whatsoever uh if they were if they were all uh HC uh uh 16 and then I would have put the hc14 on here then it wouldn't work you can go faster but you cannot go slower so let's go ahead and do that real quick okay so the card is now cooled down let's see what do we get on memory now 6 7 ohms almost and 1.8 1 and 1/2k okay so we can now power it on and see if we have um all of the vol that we need in order to boot this thing by the PC let's have a look at we'll probably go straight to pecs if we got pecs then we should have everything else so let's check for packs and we got packs and the card is pulling uh just over an amp maybe one and a half this screen here is lying I don't I don't know why who cares so let's plug this thing into a motherboard Boot It Up in they run a memory test just to make sure that none of the other chips have any issues and you just never know that goes in here oh we do not have an HDMI so we're going to have to use the D display port okay no problem let's use display port all right looks like we get a picture that's very good let's enter the boot menu and observe my latest and greatest menu for testing the memory the menu is brought to you by oh we can't even see it cuz it's all is it's all up there okay so this this menu is brought to you by Joe Biden 1.2 uh okay anyway who cares let's run the memory test I had to put some funny name on there so the guy is getting famous the whole world knows him so we might as well put his name everywhere to get a little bit of uh PAB get back off of his Fame a little bit you know nice we got a pass cool so shut down and uh I'm going to go ahead assemble the card and and then we'll run some tests make sure that everything is nice and fluffy and I let the customer know that the card had been fixed with the minimum amount of blood and speaking of blood I got to go and uh clean up that um flux residue from the back and I'll be doing that with the with our beloved alcohol and the my my new favorite uh Toy the blow job expert turbo this thing here model X3 see right there X3 gives you the X3 of a it does amazing blow job I highly recommend it every man every man should got should get one allow me to demonstrate so you brush around even if you get alcohol under the chip and then you just blow it out and then it'll will blow it out like new see that's a fine blow jop right there can't even tell that the chip had ever been in place so yeah so what I'm seeing here is I don't like the thermals especially the uh hot spot it rises too quick almost to 90 almost to 100° and then it starts to throttle so it seems like something's wrong with the uh thermal paste application or the card itself simply isn't designed to run at 100% TDP so and um no everything is looking fine everything looks fine to me I don't know why it was thermal throttling yeah very interesting I kind of wonder if this no I don't think so there's no way that this is a vapor chamber there's no way so let's go ahead and apply the good old mx4 though we all know and love and see if that makes it any better if it does I would actually be surprised cuz I see I see much better temperatures with an old uh with the GD what is this a gd2 yeah I see way better temperatures with this than with an mx4 but I don't know who knows all right now let's try again see if it makes it any better we're already 13° Delta and we're not even doing anything yeah 85 87 87 91 94 yeah it's it's it's all way up there it is it is not the thermal paste it is not the paste it is the cooler itself so there's nothing I can do about this at this point because the thermal interface is fine the bottom line is at this point there's nothing I can do so we're just going to have to uh I'm not even going to run uh super position or 3D Mark I could probably run 3D Mark in a window mode so that I can uh carefully observe the temperature and make sure that it passes so that I can test the uh functionality of the card rather than its ability to handle uh maximum TDP so uh that way uh I can feel confident that the card is actually working as it should with the exception of its terrible terrible thermals so we're just going to run we just going to run it in a window mode yep absolute disaster of a temperature control on this card so nothing I can do about that that's for sure yeah you know what I'm going to do I'm I won just satisfy my own curiosity and just take a look at that terrible cooling solution that they implemented on this um I don't know $4,000 graphics card at least I think that's what they go for not not sure so I want to crack this thing open this is not a vapor chamber it's just a aluminum um copper block uh with fins in there and and it's not particularly big kind of explains the uh inefficiency of it so well at least that was uh that was boring I guess I don't know let me guys know what you think about this repair in the comment section and uh hopefully youve learned something today I sure did colors on this cards are absolutely terrible goodbye I kind of wonder if you were to put this board onto uh some kind of a 2080 TI um heat snc I kind of wonder how it would per form you know in terms of games and whatnot it'll be very interesting to see uh but then of course you would have to find a a cooler that would have some sort of access for the PC Express cables uh coming out the back so that could be challenging but I'm sure that there are cards like that so anyway that's just uh uh that's just me mumbling it's 3:00 in the morning I got to go to sleep I don't even know what I'm talking about
