goodness of the lord i i like to share with the worser team when we're rehearsing on on thursdays i call it word pictures with our with our songs that we sing to get a visual of you know what the lord is maybe trying to communicate through a song and this song we know well as a church called the ultimate and i envisioned this song you know encapsulating an internal struggle an internal struggle that we have sometimes we find ourselves in situations where life is just difficult and we know what we believe we know what we ought to believe we know what we ought to be thinking and how we ought to be operating and then life happens and i'm like i don't want to operate like that god i don't want to operate in faith because it's hard i don't want to operate with expectation because i can't see it but then the lord sisters down and he says son daughter did you forget who i was did you forget that i am as i said earlier the sole proprietor of authority that the lord alone is sovereign he is el shaddai do we know that that means he is god almighty he's god alone there is nothing too hard for him he is infinite before all things he is the ultimate and we trust them anybody looking to trust the lord today come on just begin to lift up our prayer to the lord and begin to thank him that he can be trustworthy just lift it up even with the fruit of your lips even in the chat or where you are online just begin to begin to lift up the lord and thank him for his faithfulness begin to thank him that he has been good begin to thank him that he has shown himself strong in the midst of our your kingdom you want to use us to show your glory and i pray lord that we we humbly say thank you to that we thank you for the opportunities to be used by you lord i pray that as we proclaim that your ultimate your infinite your word is settled and that you'll never fail network confident to to be able to be confident to say here i am send me lord i'm ready i want to be used by you i'm available and we don't have to let fear get in the way we don't have to let distractions get in the way but that we can stand firm and trust in you that wherever you send us we don't know all the details we don't we don't know but we just trust you and we have faith in you lord that you'll never fail us but i play that we believe that today that we trust you and we believe that you will never fail us lord i pray that as his message come forth lord that you be with pastor tony as he's going to bring it forth that you open up our hearts to receive it even if sometimes we don't like what we hear and we receive it and that we live it in our daily lives lord that you send us to the nations and you send us to our neighbors to share this message message share this word and that we glorify that's what it's all about it's about getting out of the stands and getting into the game as you can as you already know big game uh coming on today and um you know it's gonna i mean last time i checked i think it was two and a half million dollars for a 30-second commercial maybe oh it may be more than that it always goes up i mean just think about that that goes to show how huge this is two and a half million for a 30-second commercial wow wow so it's a matter of getting in the game here is it's free you know you don't have to put up any money for it it's free and um definitely um you that would definitely uh close the gap on many areas that are vacant right now as far as serving but you know it gives give all of us an opportunity to serve you never know the joy of serving until you serve and the joy of god god doesn't need us he wants to use us uh to bring glory and honor to his name and to bless his people um one bit of um uh black history saying that we're in the month um you know diane durham she was the first black national gymnastics champion uh she passed away you know a few days ago her sister alice durham um graduated with us me and janiece they they all went to our high school um and um and she beat mary lou retton if you remember that in the all-around competition in 1984 you remember when the olympics were in los angeles and and because of some injuries she was not a part of the 84 olympics and i heard some politics as well and this is based upon the espn article that they did on her uh but this this girl she was a young girl when i was in high school and um and definitely her sister grad graduated with us and but it's just uh sad you know she passed away but no one knows when you think of the 84 olympics you think of mary lou redd she went there and and did her thing but diane durham outdid her but then because of injuries and and i heard politics whatever that means um she was not representing uh 84 uh the 84 olympics matter of fact just a little little tidbit our very own cherry uh sherry turner was a tenth of a second off of winning in the swimming and she would have represented america in the 84 olympics as well lost by a tenth of a point so so just a little bit of history for you um there so all right let's dive into the word of god together turn with me in your bibles to the book of acts chapter 28 we're going to be looking at verses 17 to 31. and father is with great thanks that we love you and we get a chance to love you because you first loved us and so lord we just pray that your spirit will move lord that your holy spirit will give us the understanding of your word give us a prophetic word a word in season a rhema word a word that's going to touch our hearts so we can leave here knowing that you're truly in our midst and you're truly here with us thank you for this opportunity to share your word to the hearts of your people may i share your heart with them in jesus name amen acts chapter 28 looking at verses 17 to 31 and and the title of this message is not all will hear not all will hear now not all will hear what the gospel of jesus christ that we as believers are called to preach to this lost world even jesus said in the story that is commonly called the parable of the sower in mark 4 and verses 1 through 20. in this story he tells how a sore sow seed and it fell upon four different types of soils which represent the hearts of men three of them were false conversions and only one was a true believer because it bore fruit some 30 and some 60 and some 100 fold according to mark 4 and verse 20. so this shows us that only one out of four people or 25 of the people who hear the gospel will respond favorably to it and we will see similar results in this story before us now last time we were together we saw that paul and the 276 passengers who had crashed on the island of malta after being there for three months it was finally time to head home so or head to rome should i say so they all boarded an alexandrian ship that had wintered there according to verse 11. and after making short stops at the cities of syracuse and pretty only in verse 13 paul was encouraged by some believers who came from the cities of ap form as well as three ends to greet him according to verse 15. they finally arrived in rome in verse 16 and paul and the others were delivered to the captain of the guard however paul was allowed to dwell by himself with a soldier chained to him and now we pick it up pick up the story in verses 17 to 20. look what it says there and it came to pass after three days that paul called the leaders of the jews together so when they had come together he said to them men and brethren though i have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers yet i was delivered as a prisoner from jerusalem into the hands of the romans who when they had examined me wanted to let me go because there was no cause for putting me to death but when the jews spoke against it i was compelled to appeal to caesar not that i have anything of which to accuse my nation and it says in verse 20 for this reason therefore i have called for you to see you and speak with you because for the hope of israel i am bound with this chain now paul wasted no time it came to pass after only three days he called the leaders of the jews together this would be the leaders of the different synagogues in rome and they came together see paul did not you know he did this should i say because he couldn't go to the various synagogues like he normally did because he came to rome as a prisoner he was clearing his name and showing his innocence of the charges against him he starts by saying i have done nothing against our people or the customs of our father yet i was delivered as a prisoner from jerusalem into the hands of the romans see paul was accused by the jews in acts 21 21 of teaching people everywhere to forsake the law of moses and that they didn't need to circumcise their children and so to the jewish people paul and christianity were public enemy number one and even though the jews hated paul and sought to kill him every day or everywhere he went paul didn't hold it against him because everywhere paul went he preached the gospel like in romans 1 16 says to the jew first and also to the greeks now i bring this up because we hold grudges and animosity against people very easily we as my son says are stuck on spite in a lot of areas people treat us a certain way and we hold it against them and this was not paul and we see it here only after being in rome three days he called for the jewish leaders to talk to them he wanted to clear his name because without doing this they wouldn't hear the gospel or any other word he had to say without him first doing this now he declared his innocence to the these jewish leaders in verse 18 by saying when they had examined me they wanted to let me go which we know was three different times paul stood before three roman officials uh claudius lyceus in acts 23 felix in acts 24 and festus in acts 25 and all of them declared paul's innocence and wanted to free him but the jews spoke against it in verse 19. and this is when he exercised his right as a roman citizen he told them that he appealed to caesar he was telling them that they had no other recourse because the jewish leaders kept pressing the roman officials to convict him and to condemn him to death he also told them that he had nothing to accuse his nation and this is why he wanted to see them in verse 20 and he then connected christianity to the hope of israel which was uh the coming messiah which he is about to preach to them he was about to show them how jesus was the fulfillment of the old testament prophecies of their very own messiah there are times like paul is doing here that we have to declare our innocence to people who have heard some terrible news about you only if you are innocent like paul was don't try to declare your innocence when you know that there may be some truth in those stories or those rumors now normally we let liars lie and we allow the lord to vindicate us but there are times like these when you have to declare your innocence and once again the emphasis is upon innocence now how can we tell the difference whether to speak up or whether to um you know just allow the lord to vindicate us this is how you can tell the difference when you are trying to share the gospel share jesus christ with someone and they may have heard a rumor about you then you declare your innocence your innocence because they will not hear a word you have to say without you doing this now did they hear any uh anything about paul did word get to them they heard they didn't have social media back then so did the word get to them look at verses 21 and 22. it says then they said to him we need to receive letters from judea concerning you nor have any of the brethren who came reported or spoken evil of you but we desire to hear from you what you think for concerning this sect we know that it is spoken against everywhere now the jewish leaders confirmed that they neither received letters from jerusalem nor have any of them the the jewish brethren reported anything or spoken any evil view paul we haven't heard anything the reason why is because paul was on the last ship leaving the area and no other uh jewish person was on that ship they began to sail right when the three-month winter time kicked in where no sailing was done paul was on the very last ship and so no news had gotten out or no brethren could have boarded that ship who could have gotten to rome and told them about paul and they were they were not on this particular ship paul was the last one so no jewish brethren was on the last ship that could have gotten to rome to warn them about paul coming there something else i want to bring to your attention which is a possibility maybe there were letters maybe there were some letters on the ship about paul that got buried when the ship crashed into the island of malta and i bring this up because you know when we are truly living for god and we are innocent there are times that god will allow those rumors about us to be buried in the sea of forgetfulness and this is what christ did for us in the book of micah chapter 7 verse 19 which says he will again have compassion on us and will subdue our iniquities or our sins you referring to god will cast all of our sins into the depths of the sea this is where the phrase the sea of forgetfulness is derived and this is what christ did for us on the cross and maybe the ugly terrible rumors about paul were buried with the wreckage of the ship however these jewish leaders wanted to hear about christianity from paul because they did acknowledge that it was spoken against everywhere now remember how i mentioned when we started teaching this book back in 2016 that we will start seeing these events unfold right before our eyes here in america christianity for the most part is spoken against everywhere the narrative that's being spent is we are the spreaders of the virus people are dying because they are coming to church that's the narrative that's being spent therefore people are afraid to come to church not afraid to go to walmart sam's club costco or or you know any other the mall that the narrative that is spent is you can get the virus at church and therefore it christianity is spoken against everywhere the church and then unbelievers and non-believing people they're pointing and see you guys y'all refused y'all y'all not keeping up with the the the cdc uh you know guidelines and and and spoken against look we trying to stay safe and you church folks you christians y'all the spreaders you you spreaders you know and that's the narrative that's being spent and and so if you come into this building it's like it's like uh some atheists say oh i would never step into the church where the ceiling will fall down if i stepped into a church well there are people spending the same narrative about church if i come in there oh that's where the virus resides in the church and that's the narrative that's being spent and as a result you come into church and christianity is spoken against everywhere look at verses 23 and 24. it says so when they had appointed him a day many came to him at his lodging to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of god persuading them concerning jesus from both the law of moses and the prophets from morning until evening and some were persuaded by the things which were spoken and some disbelieved very eager to hear more about christianity which they called a sect in verse 2 22 they appointed a day to listen in verse 23 and many came to him at his lodging now i wanted to encourage you like i was when i saw this you know they were very eager to hear about christianity and once again people vote with their feet many came to paul's lodging to hear there are people whether you believe it or not who want to hear about christianity even though the atheists and the um secular world and those type of people will they have the loudest voices um and they're expressing their antagonism against christianity there are still some who want to hear about christianity want to hear you explain the death burial and resurrection of jesus christ and why is this so important to have eternal life with god can you explain this to people if you're somebody you know at a job or somebody somewhere just randomly come up to you and just say you know i just been watching you something is different about you are you what you know you go to church what is this about christianity can you explain to me i hear something about a gospel can you can you explain can you explain to them what the gospel is the death burial and resurrection of christ and why this is so important to have eternal life why is it that i just can't believe like everybody every funeral everybody's going to heaven at every funeral every last one of them everybody it doesn't matter how you live but rest in heaven and why why is that not right can you explain that to them this is important because we claim we believe it it's not only know what you believe but now number two why you believe that can you explain to them the fall of mankind and why there was a need for a savior and and and can you explain this gospel to people because this is very important because there are people out there who want to hear it they do not everybody is antagonistic against christianity not everyone a lot but not everyone see this is why i believe many of you are silent about the christian faith because you don't know how to explain these things to people and but there is hope because we are here to help we're constantly having powwow sessions as as a staff or how we can get information into your hand so to speak by way of media by way of being online zoom uh facetime we're trying to do all we can to give you this information when we used to just say tuesday we're having a class on this come on out for tuesday well but people not really doing like that they some are so we're trying to just always keep your ear to the ground because we're always looking for ways of how we can equip you to be able to give answers to people who are internet theologians they just go to certain sites that's going to help them believe what they believe and and but we have to be able to counter that and give people answers now what did paul tell them about paul told them about the kingdom of god where jesus is king where he explained and solemnly testified from the old testament persuading them concerning jesus christ from the law of moses and the prophets oh how i wish that this this study was recorded oh you hear paul expound on the law of moses which is the first five books of the bible genesis exodus leviticus numbers and deuteronomy and from all the prophets isaiah ezekiel jeremiah and all the minor prophets as well all about jesus christ how i wish there was a recording device of this particular bible study now here's the thing i remember hearing this and one pastor posed it this way he said what if a jewish person comes up to you can you explain jesus christ is the messiah strictly from the old testament can you do that for because they they're not gonna they're not even gonna hear you they're gonna stop their ears up when you mention anything about the new testament they don't accept the new testament but they will accept what we call the old testament because they accept the law of moses the first five books uh it's called the torah in in in the hebrew or the pentateuch in the greek first five books of the bible they accept that and they accept the words of the prophets or our old testament can you explain and prove that jesus is the messiah that they're still looking for and can you explain from the old testament that he already came from the old testament i didn't say point anything out no no you got to believe this new testament they'd be like from the old testament we want to be able to equip you to do that see you have to understand in the first coming of jesus he fulfilled over 300 prophecies now the chances of one man fulfilling 300 prophecies is one in 10 to the 23rd power well let me give you an example that let's say we fill up the states of virginia and west virginia nah a little bigger than that let's say you fill up the state of texas three feet deep with silver dollars and let's say you randomly painted one silver dollar with red paint and then we drop you down into texas blindfolded and tell you now look for that silver dollar that's painted red the chances that you will find that silver dollar in three feet deep covering the state of texas is one in 10 to the 23rd power that's one with 10 and 23 zeros after i'm no mathematician i just know those odds are pretty great for you not to find that silver dollar painted red three feet deep covering the state of texas that is the chance of one man fulfilling 300 prophecies of the old testament and as a matter of fact the numbers even get more staggering um when you start digging a little bit deeper and it was just when i was listening it was just so it boggled my head so much i just said i can comprehend this much 1 in 10 to the 23rd power that's all i can do i can't do my brain can't go as far as they were going they were going in my head was just spinning i was just like i'm not on that i can tell you that now once again they were blown away by how paul tied all of the old testament prophecies to jesus from morning until evening now the greek word for persuading in verse 23 and verse 24 is uh pytho and it means to convince by argument or by going back and forth he was having a discussion with them it wasn't a sermon it was a discussion back and forth and as i mentioned earlier some were persuaded in verse 24 by the things spoken and some disbelieve or refuse to believe meaning that they heard the compelling argument by paul that jesus is the messiah and savior of the world and they refuse to believe it reminds me of second peter 3 and verse 5 in the old king james it says for they are willingly ignorant or if the new king james says for this they willingly forget the greek word for willingly is fellow and it means to determine uh choose or prefer it speaks of a deliberate act in other words no matter how much proof they saw they refuse to believe it they refuse to believe it there are people that i know that are the same way they can see what the word of god says about things and they say yeah i see that i'm still not going to believe it nope this is what it called the bible calls it being willingly ignorant or willingly forget it speaks of a deliberate act i bring this up because there are many of you here who will hear leave here and and hear the gospel and the gospel jesus christ and the word of god and how he died on the cross for your sins and offers us eternal life and it will go in one ear and out the other and you will willingly forget what you heard here and go back to your old life and praise god there will be those of you who will be persuaded that you need to get your life right with jesus christ and repent this this has really set me free it has set me it's just has set me free because i can just be free to share what the word of god has to say it takes the spirit of god to convict people's hearts and how you leave out here after hearing this work that's on you there are some who let go in one ear and out the other there are some that said i hear what you have to say yes yes i'm not doing that [Music] and i used to i used to let that bother me not anymore i'm set free 2020 yes 23 has set me free set me free for folks that i'm assuming something is happening in people's hearts and it is for some but there's a whole bunch of folks that just said yeah i heard you i'm gonna go back to my old life deuces see you next week and and it doesn't bother me anymore i'm just like okay i'm good i did my job which is to scatter the seed of god's word and in a room this size only one in four will accept it this is why george barner has said that 50 of the people that go to church this was pre-pandemic 50 of the people who sit in churches are not even christians at all they think they are but they're not at all so i've just been set free set free free of the bird you don't see it but i just have wings on right now set free look at verses 25-27 so when they did not agree amongst among themselves they departed after paul has said one word the holy spirit spoke rightly through isaiah the prophet to our father saying go to this people and say hearing you will hear and shall not understand and sin you will see and shall not perceive for the hearts of the people have grown dull and their ears are hard of hearing and their eyes they have closed lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears unless they shall understand what their hearts in turn so that i should heal them so in the midst of this discussion paul saw them have discussions among themselves surely those who believed were probably backing up what paul was saying and those who disbelieved were there refusing to believe what the word of god said paul had the final word and said that the holy spirit rightly spoken through the prophet isaiah to our forefathers then he quoted isaiah 6 verses 9 and 10. i just want you to see what unbelief will do to us it will cause us to hear and not understand see and not perceive cause our hearts to grow dull to the things of god when we take the position of being willingly ignorant or willingly to forget we harden our hearts it clogs up our ears to hearing spiritual things it blinds us to our sin and our lost condition in the eyes of god this is what when we refuse to believe our hearts get a little bit harder whenever anyone who is an unbeliever comes face to face with the word of god and they refuse to believe it their heart gets a little bit harder each time they come under the conviction of the word of god and refuse to obey even if you are a believer and you come under the conviction of the word of god in a certain area and you refuse to obey you get hardened in that area a little bit more that's why we need to make sure we come with our hearts ready to receive the word of god this is why i said we get ready for church on sunday saturday saturday and saturday night what we take in what we do we're preparing our hearts or whether we're going to receive the word of god on sunday or whether we're going to reject it and each time you hear something if you're not a believer at all you get a little bit harder each time a believer hears something in the word and refuses to obey they get a little bit harder in that area this is why we need to be careful when we sit under the word of god under the truth now we're accountable knowledge brings responsibility now we're accountable for that word look at verses 28-31 therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of god has been sent to the gentiles and they will hear it and when he has said these things the jews departed and had a great dispute among themselves then paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house and he received all who came to him preaching the kingdom of god and teaching the things which concerned the lord jesus christ with all confidence no one forbidding him so paul concluded by saying i have talked to you from morning to evening about jesus christ and you refuse to hear now i will take this gospel to a group of people who will hear it boy when he said this verse 29 said that the jewish leaders were hot and had a great dispute among themselves on the way back home please remember this fact whenever anyone doesn't receive the gospel from you god has prepared a group of people for you to talk to everyone as i said earlier everyone isn't against christianity in the church a lot of people are but not everyone god will bring you face to face with some people who want to hear how they can be forgiven of their sins how they can be relieved of the guilt of their sin i'm telling you there are people out there that that are waiting but so often we just said nobody wants to hear this and so i'm just going to be quiet and we miss out on people that god has prepared to hear this and we miss out on that because we think everyone is against christianity it is spoken against everywhere but not everyone is against it we see that paul dwelt in his own rented house in verse 30 and received all who came to him he was preaching and teaching concerning the lord jesus christ with all confidence now this is amazing to me how paul made the best out of a bad situation even though he was in prison on house arrest he still preached the gospel to all who came to him we also know that it was from here that he wrote the books of ephesians colossians and philippians commonly called the prison epistles or letters he even wrote a personal letter to a friend that we called the book of philemon so no matter what prison or unfortunate situation you find yourself in you can make the best out of it by sharing jesus christ with people either by letter email texts phone call social media we all can make the best out of whatever unfortunate prison situation we're in and paul is an example of this he's a perfect example to show us no matter what situation we find ourselves in we can be useful we can be you some of you are gifted in writing what hey write that email send that message on you know uh facebook messenger or whatever you you do and you can be encouraging others even though you're in what you would call an unfortunate prison situation because there are those who want to hear they're those who want to never forget that let me conclude with this in this message not all were here we saw how not everyone will respond favorably to the gospel of jesus christ most will hear and refuse to believe the claims like we saw in these verses so how will you leave here today refusing to believe that you need to repent you need to change and accept jesus christ surrender your life to him or whether you're going to leave out and just let it go in one ear and out the other and you go back to your life that you came from the beautiful thing that i love to say at the end of all messages is the choice is yours you have the choice you know whether jesus christ is lord of your life all you have to do is look at your life is he the lord of it and if he's not then you need to repent he's just one prayer away need to repent and get right with him so as we close in prayer may you do this for those who need to do this may you get things right with god god brought you here today to hear this particular message and whatever it is that you need to get right with god get it right and just keep it moving let's pray father thank you so much for your word thank you for your grace and mercy lord thank you for those who are here those who are online lord we pray lord that you will have mercy upon us lord forgive us of our sin if we told a lie if we stolen anything we've looked with lust lord we murdered people in our hearts we've been covetous we
