first year head coaches meet Mac Brown in Carolina have won just once since he last coached the Tar Heels here at Grant field meanwhile Jeff Collins team they're trying to get an ACC win here today grant field and the Tar Heels are going to get the ball first Georgia Tech won the toss and elected to deferred so Michael Carter [Music] made a man miss knocked out of bounds beyond the 30-yard line and that means we get a look at one of the most impressive freshmen in the ACC here is Sam Howell from Indian Trail North Carolina has absolutely taken the the conference by storm since he first entered the lineup against South Carolina starting from day one it's been absolutely fantastic last week against Clemson 144 yards as you saw but really operated this offense nicely he's been one of the best quarterbacks of a sec this year Carter's the back he'll get the carry tries to work to the perimeter got tripped up David curry was fine the linebacker number six and also Kelton Dawson who wears number ninety today along with Christian Tim see David courage is going underneath the blocks billing him outside jackets able to rally and tackle a very good running back Michael Carter in the backfield it was to vaunting Williams who now gets to carry on second battle so Carolina who comes in the Tarheels 8th in the ACC 72nd nationally at 154 yards rowdy trying to run it against the team who is 14th in the ACC and 128 nationally Georgia Tech this is where Carolina doesn't want to be though Carolina has not been very good on third downs this year their 12th in the conference at 30% bowels first call today that's the tight end Garret walleston just his second catch of the year of 13 yards and a first down Georgia Tech is going to play a lot of man-to-man coverage today this time they did the tight end Walston on the safety wanye Thomas able to complete it for a big third down conversion Vontae williams on the quick snap out to midfield before hurry makes the play Damon Carini redshirt junior boomer Georgia has the most tackles in four games for Georgia Tech with 29 since 2011 when Julian Burnett had 36 in the first four games for a Paul Johnson team and the Tar Heels have an injury and it's beau Corrales the wide receiver who had three catches last week including a touchdown against Clemson who's shaken up Corrales is the third leading receiver on this team with 13 catches so they're out to tend to the big wide out and a second in short coming up see right there Oh who just rolled up a little bit on that left leg he's alright beau Corrales you said it he is the big wide receiver up this group six foot four 210 pounds gives them a little more physical presence there on the outside see how serious it ends up being more often than not we've seen some friendly fire stuff this fall already in the first five weeks of Marche schedule Corrales is walking off and that's an excellent sign for Carolina certainly is so second down coming up it does slow the Tar Heels down who were quick snapping there after the first down play to Walston sit offense it's going to bury their tempos but by the nature of Phil long goes offense they definitely want to go fast and that's what they're doing here get short of time [Applause] junga the staff has Carter first down to the 44 of Georgia Tech goes Michael Carter jr. from the bar in Florida Phil Longo who you mentioned Ronnie he's got he's got a little bit of everything in the running back spot with Michael Carter javante Williams and even the Ohio State transfer senior Antonio Williams here's how he's going to take the deep shot down field try the next move - Newsome had gotten into the secondary for Georgia Tech the secondary has been really good for Georgia Tech so far this season how puts this absolutely on the money Newsome just not able to come up with it and then a huge point for Georgia Tech is Christian Campbell and tarik carpenter were trailing on the play so second of the full 10 for now opening drop of the ballgame belongs to the visiting Tar Heels Carter got hit by Charlie Thomas at the 42 Charlie Thomas five tackles behind the line 28 trailing just one behind the leader David curry he's been really impressive for this defense he has he's been a disruptor off his defense this don't kill on all offense was able to convert a 30 long going to the tight end no tidy about the field yet but to the bottom of the screen you got one-on-one with the underground and trace swelling they're down here with one safety over the top that looks like it's going to be man-to-man he hits and howard decides to go to we're coming take it away [Applause] Georgia Tech so Georgia Tech brings pressure Owens there on the left side of your screen drops back Howell doesn't account for the defensive end dropping right underneath the round throws it right to him how about that ends for the big fella though and getting a big turnover for Georgia Tech early in this football game third interception of the year / Howell and now here is James Graham at a Fitzgerald Georgia making the start for Jeff Collins and a quick bra on first down and this is [Applause] two catches 19 yards a week ago in Philadelphia miles Dorn makes the tackle will James Graham ends up being the guy shuffling through the backs trying to figure out who was going to be last week against temple really showed some flashes of being a really good quarterback just inconsistency has prevented him from taking it to this point Dave Patenaude really feels like with him in the game the ability to throw the ball is going to be there as well as being able to run because he is a guy who's recruited to play in the triple option to bond Fox makes the hit on Jordan Mason the ball carrier so second down coming up so an early turnover by Howell and the Tar Heels now gives Georgia Tech a plus territory start the throw to Sanders and while Phil long-ago talks to his quarterback James Graham gets his third snap as a starter he will is Jason Strowbridge getting ready to see this guy today we are going to talk about him in LA because he is an NFL talent on the left side of screen to the right side of your screen defend off the block this good defensive front Aaron Conner and Aaron Crawford in the middle is hard to brew but Strowbridge is the guy who NFL scouts are salivating over two-by-two for Georgia Tech on third and long I think an early start might be to call the all-star penalty third down Jeff plant against the referee today from Hickson Tennessee and Jarrett's others guilty of the false start with the struggles that Georgia Tech has had on their offensive line this year and a lot of that comes from guys that were blocking in a triple option scheme last year on third down expect them to widen the box split out the wide receivers really far and tried to make North Carolina declare the Blitz is to really try and help out their offense blonde upfront jamya stripping the freshman from a row of Georgia in the backfield with Graham on third law cuts it loose looking deep man put Malachi Carter Carter handgun behind Greg Ross the Tar Heel corner so get Malachi Carter who runs a great round here on the outside just a little double move something that North Carolina has done a lot this season and this these are the layups that Georgia Tech quarterback need to hit no matter who is in at quarterback its James Graham today you got to be able to get it to the two-year receiver not only that keep it in the field of play uh Paul was thrown out of bounds they've Patenaude with a great play call not able to execute from his quarterback Jay so the interception goes by the boards rowdy here's Presley Harvin to punt for the first time he pinned temple deep last week that led to the safety and he'll just try to flip the soft branch in here but we'll skip into the end zone and bring us to our first time out each team's had it once Carolina's got a turf through both Corrales back in the ball game and wide receiver for Carolina here's Michael Carter he can't get started Bruce Jordan swimming number 12 in the Cape danger Z so great we're Georgia Tech today makes the stuff but Georgia Tech can encounter within this run game is movement they're gonna send guys they're gonna slant the front to try and use their quickness against this ginormous North Carolina offers a while second of all taking the shot looking downfield today ami Brown and that's two that's gone through the wickets here Ronnie Sam has been on the money with to debunk now one two dads news from this one today ami Brown and I moved up to having a tough time tracking him and that's an easy ball coming over the outside shoulder that receivers practice all the time there's another third and long third one of the day the last time Sam Halle threw the interception see what happens now Georgia Tech's got a stoolie safety look and they've gotta call the too many men on the field rush and the throw caught here Newsom in front of the Georgia Tech bench it'll be close and it is a first down at the 31 Hwanhee a Thomas trailing - Newsom who had a brother playing Virginia Tech his dad Myron Newsom but foster told us a couple weeks ago one of his all-time favorite players for though here's Carter spinning and driving across the 35 that'll be a pickup a right hand six on first down and West that third down that North Carolina just converted Georgia Tech had some confusion running guys on and off the field because whadya Thomas was running off I thought they got caught with 12 but it actually looks like because it wasn't called they ended up with 10 on the play so Georgia Tech with an early communication mistake that led to a big conversion starter again it'll be third and short as he stopped right before the 40 by David curry Georgia Tech's leading tacklers already been in to mix more than ones here early here is third down and javante williams part of that triumph or in it running back for the Tar Heels comes into the lineup Sam look it's this SAP house coming here to the boundary huh he's down here to the bottom very screen wild cat in the backfield with javante warnings taking a snap and he will get the first down well they run Vargas to tie it in a little counter bucks rowdy like that boy goes right up your alley yeah give me a lead block around in front a little jab step to the right come back to the left picked ITIN Vargas throwing a nice block we want to measure this it's crossed the 41 and from our vantage point here on the west side at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Grant field looks to be a first down but Jeff Flanagan's crew wants to make sure sure - Tech defense is gonna have its in full hands full when we showed the size difference or the offensive line offensive line that actually handled themselves pretty well in the run game last week against Clemson 125 yards rushing as North Carolina did in fact get the first down and meter with background yesterday was a real tree you and I and the arocs sat down with the massive coaching are you having a good time he said hey you know the losing is never fun but you could tell guys still love his ball yep I think he also readily admits he learned a lot in his five years working at ESPN and enjoyed it even our producer Chris Damiani spent some time with the coach during his tenure who's fun to watch those guys were new ties as well and Sam Howell from the quarterback spot on the keeper for about five here second and five coming up the energy that Matt Brown has native of Cookeville Tennessee 68 years of age by the way a win today he will tie dick Crum as Carolina's all-time winning his football coach was 72 victories shoots it across the middle the catch made it's tried toe groves Atari Hill first down to the Georgia Tech 33 yard line in Abidjan acres town once again Georgia Tech in man coverage and it's going to be tough for them to keep up with these UNC receivers this is the quickest lunch that they have seen I used this term endearingly this is a berry finesse grouper receivers not a lot of big physical guys but a ton of speed [Applause] now all the playback again taking the deep shot for both Corrales who goes up and can't come down he was in coverage with Samar Walton well this part of it is actually playing right into Jordan text and this is what they're really good at at defensive back their Pig their logs of our long 630 180 width length even though both Morales is six four that's a matchup that Georgia Tech will take the advantage that North Carolina has is going to be in the speed portion of it because their receivers can absolutely fly yeah we got boatman I believe on the Tar Heels here all-star offense number 63 second down the pillow Thiele modulus there's the secondary rowdy it's it is the strength of the football team on the defensive side for sure and they are big good slided held up against some of the best receiving cores in the country tenth play of the drive that's brown bird down about the 27 5 shy of the first down or in the neighborhood to eat carpenter in the coverage for Georgia Tech and the Tar Heels rate around Michael Carter right side hit to cutback first down and more charter than the 15 rides the left garden bottleless and hit the great right back on the gas North Carolina has been incredible this year in the redzone a perfect 17 for 17 scoring touchdowns down there one of eight teams here coming into play FBS football this week who is perfect in red zone church and to a green who was the closest target at the neighborhood we ask defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker for Georgia Tech about that yesterday about their red zone success he sent along Fitz because of their offensive line they're so big and they run they go with such tempo on offense by that time you get down to the red zone you're warmed out and they just lean on your defense expect run here and see if that comes to fruition with them being able to move toward the tech off the ball to PI - look how shoots it inside at the average so now third in the Fulton coming up that's where North Carolina has made a lot of their money as Eric said that's it that's a run past options him hounds got the option to hand the ball off put decides to go over the top another third and 10 on the outside you get one on one to the top of your screen that may be a matchup that's an how it looks Georgia Tech looks like it's bringing Prussia but when you get these check with me sometimes if you check they check that's the that's the game that you're gonna play tote groans we're on Tavis groans just moved into the slot right here he just switched we'll see if they go to him now looking for the corner and grills and reach back against the jockey turn and that will mean Noah Ruggles will try a field goal his longest of the year 49 in winston-salem as Howland the Tar Heels misfire Sam how five of his first 12 now Ronnie 466 yards and not all the bets on him you had to long drop passes by receivers early but Georgia Tech's going to do a really good job during this game of making Sam ow work on these balls down the field that was pretty good coverage where there was a small window to throw it in Wow he'll go try for Ruggles who all the years 7 for 10 try is away and the Tar Heels have scored first here in Atlanta the thing that he really said is you like Sam how his competitiveness wanting to have the ball in his hands that's the reason we were in that game in the first place because that guy is an absolute gamer yep the competitive mindset of Sam how is I think recent Ronnie won the job absolutely we'll be trapped down shy of the 20 by Chaz Surratt and a reminder of course ACC network primetime football tonight 8 o'clock don't be in some fabled horseshoe on the West Campus at Duke rowdy for Pitt and the Blue Devils they scored 99 points last year in their meeting at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh Pat call that wallet weight outdoor stadium Wallace Wade outdoor stadium to my man Packer next the Cameron Indoor it's it Jordan Mason is the running back for James Graham Graham trying to run and throw downfield incomplete looking on the backside for a Marion Brown where Carolina had great pursuit with Jeremiah gimel who's come on here before the tar you suck it down at 10:00 at the 19 the Georgia Tech's second offensive possession the jackets no offensive points last week in the lawsuit temple but gray up the young man from Fitzgerald Georgia getting the start today and has great speed here his grand sliding down takes a shot partisans here grapefield wanted to fight on the Don Chapman hit Don Chapman the true freshman gets to start and that one's borderline [Applause] obviously the partisans as you said are a little upset it's borderline but I think a good call by the referee is leaving the flags on the pocket here's Graham on the snap take the shot Carter twice he's tried to hit Carter Carolina's got in the backfield Aaron Crawford really hit Graham when he cut it loose put you like James Graham's willingness to stand in the pocket sometimes you have to let these plays to develop and honestly malachi carter should come up with that one i mean your quarterback it's a little it's a little out there but you got to get you hands on it and come down with that when you've struggled at the quarterback position you're an underdog in the game georgia tech's don't want that one back because they had a big opportunity there very quickly second intent here is a quick coat of Italian debating and that will be a first down I really like what I've seen from a rhythm standpoint from James Brown James Graham in this Drive even on the Miss play delivering the ball with confidence and getting the ball out of his hand quick to rowdy new six in the box Jordan Mason Georgia Tech averaging 163 yards on the ground Carolina surrendering the exact same number is the Tar Heel defense coordinated by Jay Bateman second and seven Crawford got an early start but backed up the ball wasn't snapped out of the linemen reacted centers got a snap it or one of the guys got to come off the ball and take advantage of that free five yards chassé around now let me tell you this is one of the best stories in college football right here with Chaz Saran it absolutely is West but I mean look at this turn of events for Georgia Tech they should have had second in short because Aaron Crawford basically in the backfield without touching one of the offensive linemen so if they moved you get second and short you were actually that doesn't happen you run the play and now you're in a third and nine that's just one of the little coaching things that's going to develop over for Georgia Tech but here's what Eric was talking about with the big split he's able to scoot out of it for a couple of yards but Harvin will have to come on in but here think of a pursuit from Fox the junior from here in the Atlanta area Aaron Crawford once again kind of getting up the middle tamam pots coming off the edge Jay Payton an absolutely loves that kid said he is real life smart and a guy that knows multiple positions was playing inside they moved him outside he has flourished to the far side skips out of bounds off the foot of carbon here the 15 so the Tar Heels lead three nothing when we continue from Atlanta [Music] 3-nothing native of Conyers graduate of Western Carolina work tears the GA for three years under George O'Leary the former Yellow Jacket coach here at the ball game today came back as a assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Chan Gailey recruiting again from shambling running back named Ronnie Jones cracked up on guitar do first snap from inside the 14-yard houses and colleges brought a ton of energy back to this job but I thought the comments yesterday about building day to day and building his team as much as taking a vote count who they're playing was faster they know they have some pieces that don't necessarily fit what they would want to do ideally but the biggest thing is getting better then getting better every week has seen Michael Carter getting the first down he talked about the nameless faceless opponent ultimately they have to get better at defending schemes in depending style is not necessarily talking about Sam Powell and Michael Carter and Tommy brown Georgia Tech has to focus their their efforts inwards and they've certainly done that first in 10 after the car to run owl quit for the brother who's Klauss stiff arm and then bank out of bounds by Kelton Dawson who is wearing 90 today in honor of the late Brandon Adams unless you call this a stiff arm I call this disrespectful that's one of those no kiddo that's some re walk now not some guy just showed up correct that's a good point there [Applause] savant a Williams another Tar Heel first down I am fascinated with Carter javante Williams and maybe the most visible fact they've got in Tony a witness with each other really well and we'll see a ton of them today is North Carolina has been pretty good running the football javante Williams again pours through to beyond the 47 yard line a run of ten at another Carolina first down trying to slide the eggs David curry polishes off the good work of jaylen King a redshirt freshman from just outside of Nashville who got the first lick on [Music] sorry about operated the tempo that they want to make a couple of substitutions here and slow it down but really good rhythm for this offer [Applause] Carter six for the first now perhaps my walk and this is for down territory for me mr. detect offenses struggled a little bit so why not go ahead they don't get it here they found success on court day on third downs excuse me going to the tight ends and to the slack so what's these two guys the two slots to the top and bottom of the screen quick throw card on the back side Thoth groves and a first down at the 38 that's a big time ball from Sam Powell fantastic throw listen out my toe groves right on the sideline got her a defender coming from the inside that's that's why Sam how to starting quarterback at you can see is to go with the competitiveness he's got the warm to be able to complete those boxes dropped it he entry swilling were stride for stride the ball may be caught up in the wind a little bit Brown came back for it couldn't hang on the second time he's had a shot at one deep and has not been able to bring it in does a good job of adjusting to the football pushing trailing behind it just goes right through the wickets at three deep balls now to to brown and one one to - Newsom is well working on a hadn't been able to come down Howell is 8 of 16 for 86 yards and he will keep it this time and maybe get a yard maybe not good pursuit by curry in the jackets and that will get us to the end of the first Carroll 62 rushing yards they know they're 100 yards behind with Georgia Tech no laws in the game no surprise there but this is the 11th play of the drive and a319 game bird in the filter - nuisance at the 17 let's see what happens on the mark I think they're going to get offensive pass interference against North Carolina you had toke groves and I'm picking the the man that was covering dad's Newsome freeing him up in the flat and see what they end up going with Jeff Flannigan offensive pass interference [Applause] Eric rowdy called out like he did it his career well here's where the pic is going to come from and West hey that's something that that you don't necessarily talk about there the toe groves picks off the Georgia Tech player frees us as new so everybody does it you just want one of those little smoke screens there were you you get close to it and make them slow down to free up your receiver when you make [Applause] eludes the pressure look at this two riders get tulip women Sam Howell avoidance act what three times less if you turn on the highlight video from Sun Valley High School and Indian Trail North Carolina that's what you're going to see from Sam Howell because the offensive line there was not nearly as good as the one that he had here avoided you said it three sacks and delivers a ball just off the mark for beau Corrales who's laying out for it that was a highlight play that goes down as an incomplete pass in the scoreboard Josh plank Cano to wait on the punt this is then Jared [Music] [Applause] right around the 12 yards in the studio today Tobias Oliver the quarterback for Georgia Tech around the 15 to the 16 it'll be a gain of four Jake Bateman the North Carolina defensive coordinator outlined what he thought if they saw Tobias Oliver what it would be rowdy and pretty much on point here and Georgia Tech had not gotten the ball in his hands yet other than the kickoff return and they said Tobias Oliver may not be starting for us a quarterback but he is an elite athlete we got to find the ball find a way to get the ball in his hands he split out now at receiver but obviously direct snap is one way to get him involved so Graham comes back to quarterback and Oliver's at the bottom of the screen as one of the wide receivers at Jerry Howard junior from Rock Hill South Carolina's in as the running back gums Graham there's a bitchin Fox is right there to sling power down speed option to the boundary for Jerry Howard and its third wise Oliver stays in the game is going to be the receiver to the bottom again as you said was the bling in bring in Josh point Otto keep in the tight end Tyler Davis now they're going to go tight Oliver right here one of the dynamic playmakers at the bomb [Applause] looking toward oliver glows instead to davis did he get enough for the first down he did in the 23 i had a mild or well done on the throw from braille I really liked the call Oliver gets on the flat wig to make it a clean breathe for James Graham who has delivered the ball with confidence delivers a strike with Tyler Davis and I like the fact that these tight ends have been involved early in this game Oliver now back to the quarterbacks fire that's Nathan consulate bosun you it's him Alan cater was lost after six games last year with a torn ACL come in contributed eight tackles couple of hurries couple behind the line in fact out of third one there when we talked to Jay Bateman yesterday the defensive coordinator for North Carolina he said he was more concerned about the Georgia Tech offense with Oliver at QB and his ability to run the ball but Georgia Tech wants to move on from the option in the read option they want to be more of a traditional throwing team [Applause] we will cross the 25 and up to five the 29 before Dominic Crossan Valley makes a heck of an open field tackle here well this is why Jay Bateman was worried just like Eric said because they've got this played defended well but you have to play the second play with Tobias Oliver the scramble they end up rally for a short game but that's a play that a normal quarterback throws out of bounds or tries to run to the play side and you tackle them for a short game or or maybe for no game but as Oliver able to get a little bit out of it the Oliver's the team's Russian leader coming in now third and three and Georgia Tech just one of their first three today the James Graham back to quarterback Jim quick hanukkah's Sanders second pick graph of this first half for the jackets and a first down matches his best game from a week ago against temple it's just the swag one-on-one coverage Graham delivers a good ball up high Donna Cassandra strong hands bringing it down that's a contested catch and I tell you what that's a way to endure yourself to a quarterback yep is by making catches win their contestant Tobias Griffin comes in as the running back fresh set of downs for Georgia Tech bramblett's to throwing in Don Chapman the freshman from San Diego California his first interception is ATAR he and true freshman hits the start because they injured at Cam Ranh Kelley he's the safety in the middle of the field James Graham had one of these last week as well wearing this doesn't account for the safety Scottish Rite hospital which is now part of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta which is being celebrated by Collins and his team today with the Cape day jerseys come full circle yeah I'm not giving those a pretty good seats he would yeah there's you good view up here it's like the blimp view here's our dance the Michael Carter on first down after the Don Chapman interception what else have you learned up there so I'm up here with Jordan Jordan do they charge extra for the Jeff Collins tickets they don't this is actually one of the cheaper sections for season ticket holders and it's not a bad view so I just keep sitting up here do you envision yourself coaching from the sideline one day I ran the triple option in high school so I think that's kind of faded away so I don't see it anymore oh man Wes I'm sorry that Bennie [Music] overthrown and a flag is thrown behind the play here on the incomplete ball it might be a hold on big China head thanks to Jordan for the visit with Eric by the way is it hot a bear big fella holding here's Charlie heck call 6/8 315 of it see big sixty-seven defensive lineman mamacita probably been okay if the guy didn't fall but that's that's one of those indicators for referees that something was awry and it gets called for now after the penalty inside around and the catch made every sentence the freshman from parked at North Carolina so now third and fairly long at seven yards bill Longo matching wits with Andrew Packer [Applause] it's like they're going to get man-to-man again on third down the work done made the throw and a rolling catch of it by Newsome Wow working against Tariq carpenters when I have a look at this rowdy absolutely Newsome righted the sticks goes down under the football really good catch sets up a fourth down for North Carolina leaving the offense on the field Jeff Flannigan wants to measure here he had to get to the 42 the drive started at the 32 prior to the hole and if he gets to the 42 this under further review I gotta tell you I don't see anything there to take the catch away I did not or either and he's at the 42 yard line by the way yep yep that's some kind of grab off the turf by dad's Newsome here's a look instructed by the offensive lineman so you're not going to get a reversal off of that again you gotta have evidence that the catch did not occur his arms are under the ball I actually think from the views that we've seen so far it's going to be confirmed that it was indeed a catch and soon will give us a pretty good look as well arms definitely under the ball initially I'll tell you what art director had a Brian his groove got a phenomenal look at this that's about as good as it's going to get on any play and here's the credit to Newsom rowdy rather than catch and stay on the ground he rolled through to show that he had the ball I'm sure in some ways he kind of sold the back end of it yep yep ruling on the field is a catch and here's Jeff planting I could further review it is a catch we will take time out to measure for a first down Carolina's had some drops here in the first half this will be a heck of a third down pickup if this is spotted his first down especially up to the big holding Pennell Wright had set him and set him back it was a really good completion on second down to make it a third and more manageable and then this third down play and I'm gonna be honest with us I got a lot of respect for the referees I was a little bit of an unnecessary measurement right there yeah you're you're three feet away from mystics we gotta buy Appelbaum leg but hey better safe than sorry that's it there we go so a three nothing bargain guys a little surprised and how maybe this ball games just kind of wobbled back and forth a little bit in this first hand north carolina's honestly and shot themselves in the foot a little bit you had the offensive pass interference that stopped to drive the interception that stopped the drive and then a couple of drops on big plays that would have been touchdowns so North Carolina a little sloppy in this first quarter Powell javante Williams 10 on first down maybe 11 to your point Ron he's built Longo's recipe for success his run run quick pass quick pass take the shots and throughout this season they have been great to getting those big shots down the field and today they just have not capitalized on them I want to keep you'll slip down just inside the 45 right through Kelton Dawson Sam how does a great job of getting on the ground one of the concerns for Carolina is that J smoother the backup quarterback is hurt Benson Amendola the true freshman is the backup quarterback and there was a three-way quarterback competition in fall camp he was not a part of them so they're very concerned if the Sam how were to go down Monta Williams a 13 yard run to the 31 before carpenter gets him on the ground yeah Phil Longo told us Vincent Amendola has two and a half weeks of what he calls real reps I'm sure they'd like to get him some reps in a game but it will not come at the cost Oh pile level play of what they're in write down the coastal division paddling Georgia attacking look at you Monty Williams just second and third efforting against the Johnny curve so about the 27 and a half yard line what North Carolina has been able to do is string together drives they grow people look like slaves so far in this game and we're not even halfway through the second quarter West yep that is an unbelievable pace that they are setting into this Georgia Tech defensive line and this linebacker crew entire keep this really is just been on the field a ton here in the first half jacked exchanged their fraud here on how all the second and seven [Applause] so gross and boy Howell has got a pretty good arm here well this one he's just a little off the mark but this is for one I called some open receivers that would have been touchdowns at North Carolina's Vince - to brown a once elusive and now wonder groves but for whatever reason they have not been able to connect and on the season generally they have their twenty nine plays this year over 20 yards that's made and that's do submit to 24 another first down hi I don't know you guys thinking about this but when Phil Lago is talking to us about the way the offensive pieces come together how they've talked about rats and packages and things like this he's got to be talking about stuff like this Ronnie just run to the road it's a fantastic route you have the option when you break that down to come back down the stem of the route which Newsom did to find green grass and get the completion that one is too hot to handle for gusoff probably hide outside off the hand of power Blanco was fascinating to talk to about the installation of the opera's takes four days when he said that I was like you gotta be kidding me the philosophy is you installed the offense in pieces and parts you've installed certain things to get a rear formation with poor players down to the bottom POW picks out the wide-open guys - Misun touchdown Carolina 20 yard throw to Newsome and for dad's Newsome is his third touchdown catch of the year [Applause] Carolina finally connects on one they handle layup and finally hit it they've had opportunities with as new some ends up getting the ball in the end zone 11 plays 68 yards 355 Ruggles point rips one in there producing 10-nothing Carolina in Atlanta when we continue torch at 10:18 plays 275 yards [Music] we'll touch a knee and we go back to the Howell to Newsome touchdown fans so North Carolina comes out in the formation with four guys splits at the bottom of your screen and that's Michael Carter the running back so the action of the screen pass to him actually draws up the safety whiny a Thomas he's right here watch him when the action comes Sam Howell whoops bakes and then it's just a verticals concept where he goes to the inside receiver - Newsome makes a move on the safety and is able to get in the end zone a really well-designed play out of a an unconventional formation from the Tar Heels James Graham back at quarterback with Jordan Mason the running back that's a Mauryan Brown in motion fumbled the ball caught it on the bounce did Graham but Josh Surratt muscles him to the ground at the 27 this play was messed up from the very beginning it looked like either Amar'e and Brown was supposed to get the ball or you're supposed to get a fake either way the timing was off James Graham able to avoid disaster and actually pick up a couple of yards not going on there man Brown almost came to a complete stop looked like William Malay almost snapped it into a Mario Brown [Music] now they said jaw here Hawkins out and to say don't make a catch up and fall forward to the 30 before Greg Ross JA here Hawkins Anderson from North View High School here in the Atlanta area makes the catch at Ronnie that's his first action from a statistical standpoint this year Jeff Colin said he had an unbelievable week of practice but Georgia Tech really needs a first down here that Eric defense has been on the field basically the entire first half it seems like so if nothing else I like them slowing down the pace to get the right play to get a first down if you thought defense give him some rest third down and six Graham wants to throw forced to the left side and out-of-bounds well short of the first down Chaz Saran again remember now Chaz Saran was the National Player of the Year in high school at quarterback one of the best stories in all of college football the coach just told us he went to them and said hey I want to play linebacker J Bateman said have you ever played linebacker before said no they gave him a shot because he's an athlete and he forces the Georgia Tech pun asked Newsome back to return now he averages seven yards are returned Presley Harvin gets it away from the 19 out of bounds at the 25 we get Atlanta Tar Heels back on offense when we come back question Tobias Oliver Jordan Mason lead Georgia Tech in yards per carry who holds the jackets all-time mark for career yards per carry this one's a lair is it rowdy Jones so here's here's the qualification it depends on what the minimum number of carries is Jeff that general generally they go by 200 carries as rotties dissertation cards generally it's generally it's 200 carries and if that is the marker near than yeah that's me but Warren Smith ended his career with a hundred and ninety-nine carries and his the end he averaged I think either a full yard or a yard and a half more than I did so well how unfair it advantages this a former play-by-play guy for the Yellow Jackets and a former running back for the Yellow Jackets first me in an athlete review question with a cat but honey problem I didn't realize it was gonna belt defin to that right away did you know I mean the first night but but you would have an unfair advantage because you would do it through this - I was gonna say Anthony out with a whisper of his second pick of the day Demetrios night almost had his first interception as the Yellow Jacket once again the coverage pools Sam how a little bit that's a really good break to get out there underneath the route by Demetrius night the freshman I'll tell you this Georgia Tech gets Carolina to the stall on three and out for the first time and that is his big for the defense of the jackets as it is for the offense Jeff cute sideswipes ones a blank Otto he's taking down at the 21 yard line about his 51 yards okay the answer to the Aflac trivia question eric is Roddy Jones believe it or not 7.6 yards per carry from 2008 to 2011 let's go to the videotape South Carolina State couldn't stop him oh you know what this is 2008 between the hedges I think that was the two-point play one day wash up and here's the game-winner Eric this is why the guy didn't buy dinner in Atlanta and he didn't have to buy lunch yesterday either because faster than me the Tom catapult deal which little teaser for something that will likely come later but these guys you got a tax free weekend for Jones because you guys forgot I'd like for you to refer to me as mr. chairman oh no we're gonna get to that today fall into 23 and then a nice run but Jerry Howard gets Georgia Tech 9 under 3:00 to go and maybe the most important offensive drive of the day for Collins team and Jordan Mason bangs away into the 44 now the jackets have three timeouts as we go under three minutes to play here on the other side get North Carolina's offense off the field and a three and out and Georgia Tech's had a couple of drives couple of seven play drives where they've been able to move the ball just not able to punch it in the end zone but you feel the momentum swinging the jackets wood tries to keep Saran and then gimble right there the two linebackers I missed the read West and to get read all day had he done it you'd had another pretty good game they're of the unique boards used by this Georgia Tech off Chad Surratt did a good job of sniffing it out it's a Carolina deep it's a card by the way allocator got in the neutral zone Georgia Tech didn't move and saw the Georgia Tech on there and all some got all discombobulated which is probably what Carolina's defense wants [Applause] State Farm halftime report on the way Boston College Louisville in a wild win a Cargill Stadium a preview of Duke and Pittsburgh tonight in Durham and first-half stats and highlights with Kelsey Riggs Eric McClain EJ Manuel and coach Mark Richt who last night on the huddle put a Georgia Tech helmet on rowdy as a game show and he ended up on the wrong side of the pitcher helped rivals helmet on brampton in trouble come on Fox and a timeout taken by back brown on 142 to play in this first half Fox has had a heck of a first half for Bateman's defense ten nothing when we come back to Atlanta cade long handles the long snaps let's do some weights crowd chants for return perhaps loosen slides through stretches out to the 39 yard line and that's where the Tar Heels get started well we told you earlier Pittsburgh and Duke come up tonight 8 o'clock at the Horseshoe in Durham Blue Devils and Panthers and here is Tim Hasselbeck with a preview well it looks like this game might come down to that pit pass rush getting after Quinton Harris 24 sacks on the season forfeit but they're gonna see some of that triple option and West I know this I know that Roddy can tell you about that triple option hard to defend could be an interesting one whoa what Paris tonight little option game yeah he's right that broke it out against Alabama a little bit and if nothing else it's something that Pitt has to prepare for then they've got a spent time at during the week going [Applause] Carter the 20 20 swimming - 8 - touchdown the thing on the other side of this West Brent habeas Clanton actually plays this world watch big 97 snip it out and opals get a finger on that ball that same house with the great throw getting it to Michael Carter and you're exactly right choice removing plays a lot of good Carter out about 41 yard play sets Carolina off just outside the Georgia Tech 20 into the flat knocked out of bounds first and goal from the 8th with 73 seconds to play here in the first half Georgia Tech players back Carolina right around 50 plays nearing its fiftieth play during this game it's Charlie Thomas who shaken up you with the way they're stretching them it looks like it's a cramp and with the amount of plays that North Carolina has run over the course of I mean they're on pace to go over 100 plays for the game the interesting part is we spent the last couple of weeks talking to Dino Babers about tempo and offense and Eric to be honest rowdy I I think we've seen Carolina and Phil long ago today outside that three and out in their last possession really be able to kind of set the bar today of what they wanted to get done on offense yeah they've done a great job of moving the sticks extending drops and that's how you get over 50 plays in the first half and as this game goes on this is a big offensive line bigger than most you see in a no huddle offense but we heard from Phil Longo yesterday the offensive line loves the up-tempo because they know if they're tired the defense is more tired and they can just simply wear on guys and that's led to so much of the red zone success and that's a really good point the red zone success is a big part of it and Ruth Acker talked about it but the other side of it is their ability to vary the tempo because last week against Clemson they slowed it down you want to shorten the game help your defense out a little bit this is more the tempo that they actually like to be at with Phil Longo the offensive coordinator he's done a fantastic job everywhere he's been here's the here's the situation now with Howell and the gun and that's brown to his left and Newsome to his right well look at that now Carter drops into the backfield they reset Michael Carter the handoff a good play by David curry really fine play by the jacket backer pretty interesting before that play before the ship Jeff Collins was running down the sideline telling the referee that's an illegal formation that's illegal formation I was waiting for them to shift and they did at the last second he had him ready though suck it down brought down by Tremezzo big defensive tackle play made out in space against I believe some morning walk I made miss down here towards the goal line obviously gonna get man-to-man coverage across the board we've got both Corrales to the bottom of one on one loop it for Corrales caught touchdown Carolina gets away with 13 seconds left Sam how throws his second touchdown pass of the day and boat Corrales catches his third of the year well they did it earlier in the year Oh Corrales getting lined up a back shoulder throw how about that throwing catch me Howell puts it right on the pylon Corrales uses all six-foot four of his frame in his arms to snag that ball out of the air what a statement for North Carolina after the three now Georgia Tech gets the ball goes down they're able to force the punt a good punt return in a statement right before half-time [Applause] sohow 198 of 17 of 29 and two scores that play happened right in front of me guys in boca rallies he is six foot four smart wall he's six foot three that is big on big you don't see a lot of six three corners get taken advantage of because of their size on the goal line but that is exactly what boat Corrales did but will that last shot we showed shows just how indefensible that is when that ball is thrown two feet behind go Corrales and because of his length he's able to snag it there's no way Safari was able to get to that ball that's just a it's a great throw and catch she's a great throw and catch and if you're Georgia Tech you got to tip your cap unfortunately it ends up two points on the board for North Carolina how aggressive you want to be with Jeff Collins here 13 seconds you got three timeouts rowdy you get the ball to start second half you get the ball out of half if he gets a great return maybe you throw one in the end zone but other than that I think Georgia Tech's just going to take Tarheels will take you to advantage to the locker room nonetheless to program Tobias Oliver knock down a balance with nine seconds left don't forget we spent last Thursday on all-acc covering women's basketball this Tuesday the men will take center stage in Charlotte three hours of all-acc special edition comes up at 10 a.m. on acc network will preview the season the head coaches and players from each team and their insight ten-to-one right here on ACC Network you guys are doing the show from there right we are indeed Packer in Durham at 7:00 it's a big day in Charlotte knowing you gonna be there right I will pick your names on the master trophy thanks appreciate it touch of the knee by Graham we'll get the teams to the locker room well they kind of slide back and forth two times but rowdy Carolina's got two big scores here the last six and a half but I think when Eric talks to Mack Brown Biron am I'd be frustrated with the way it started that certainly you're pleased going into halftime leading by 17 point they are a little bit worn down seem to be a little bit worn down dick will go out of bounds through the back of the end zone and let's check with air good I talked to Jeff Collins coming out to the half and coming off putting up zero points in the first half he said his offense simply has to check the right plays get into the right play calls and take advantage of the Blitz it's at North Carolina's giving them get some plays and make some plays down the field well James Grail the young man Fitzgerald George on the redshirt freshman starting today a quarterback for the jackets longest play the jackets head the first half 17 yards this is George Mason fake the sweep tool Mauryan Brown and a hand mason who gets four and a half on first down this shutout in the first half for Georgia Tech this is coming off a game where their offense did not score at all against temple they are desperately trying to find some rhythm in this offense and in that temple game three turnovers killed him including a fumble going into the end zone and interception in the end zone but at the end of the day it's about putting up points finishing drives in the air to right they got to find some rhythm here I thought they had him rowdy at times in the first half when your offense is operating over Mike Georgia Texas bit that's fleeting as we've seen here today Carolina's got storm duck come on that's a great I'm honestly surprised that took you to the second half to say his name period and I just thought you'd say it no matter what and it's why the best names in the ACC he would call it last night the production baby stormed up were gonna say it before the days over freshmen from bowling Springs South Carolina he had Surratt there too old George detected no gain so third the full five for the jackets looks like we got one on one to the boundary first Collins Otis don't like those up in the pocket side and that is Aaron Crawford three in out go the jackets second side a brand new Crawford's right up the middle working on the center a William lay just use a Power Move getting in the backfield and that's why Georgia Tech doesn't want to be in those types of situations where it's an obvious passing situation on third down because with the injuries that they've had up front Kenny Cooper going down at center forcing lay into action it just makes it tough to be able to protect it's a very talented front for North Carolina rustling Harmon to pun - Newsome we'll make the fair gets Harvick lined one Newsome toward the end of the first half and this was able to get a little momentum that one had a little more air under so Sam Howell will start from its 33 will Mac Brown told Eric before the half the first five minutes of the third quarter were going to be huge his defense comes out does their part with the three and out see where this offense is in terms of sharpness is at the beginning of the first half remember that was the sloppiness that drops that you referenced later in the second half they really got going which North Carolina offense are we gonna see Michael Carter going well it's a blog on the edge the tiny Woolston it has a first down right in 15 yards 14 and a half for Michael Carter this is more of what we were expecting coming into the day and as this game wears on the Georgia Tech rush defense that has struggled throughout this year is showing its head is to quit bro the cat's day on be brought out 9 on first desk this is some kind of catch now we're seeing the inconsistencies that young receivers bring you but we've also seen the top-end talent that these receivers have and which we need - there's some book or analyst they have all made Highline catches here today that one may be right up to the top of the list on the slammer on Carter javante Williams both in the backfield with Howell here on second it's short javante williams easy first down and then lace the wrong dog Brewster swimming rowdy you mentioned how good the receiving four has been this year for North Carolina and all of these guys return next year and you have Sam how who is a true freshman the future is very bright for this North Carolina team by the way javante williams and michael carter the two running backs they're back next year too there's Tabata Williams [Applause] like toward the 26 turned around Monday with curry well Mack Brown said the first five minutes it were three and a half in guy's Tar Heels approaching the Georgia Tech wrist zone here get a stop on defense the offense looks to be the offense we saw at the end of the first time just shy of the red zone here Howell looking to throw shoots in the middle of the field day on the ground first and goal Carolina and the Georgia Tech six yard line a discussion slinging dead is it inches a mistake often for the polls even though those on the back hip a little behind the receiver Brown does a really good job and stopping and making the play I actually think he wanted to throw a little behind the receiver so he doesn't run him right into safety Devante Williams cannot break away from Brent athiest Glenn big 97 and a flag has been thrown I think it's going to be on Charlie heck for a little extra in the end zone it is going to be on Charlie heck I watched him on the entire play that play he drives the defender all the way into the end zone he does get flagged for an extra little shove probably a little high two defenders [Music] Charlie heck it's a tone centers I can't go so the play by the way will count it is a post scrimmage foul 15 yards fourth penalty on the Tar Heels for 45 yards but like we saw in one of the earlier games we're watching today with Louisville of Boston College fouls like this in this part of the field rowdy can be lethal yeah they magnify themselves for sure Powell flips it to Carter and David curry a nice play on a screen pass that earlier in the ball game really paid off for the Tar Heels call David Curry's name a lot he's the elder statesman of this crew was reclassified was a senior coming in this year reclassified as a junior after being a hardship he has been all over the place really smart player has been a true leader for Jeff Collins trying to get the crowd pumped up here on a third down his dad buddy curry an all-acc performer at North Carolina on a Tar Heel ACC championship team in the 1980s power loop Tikrit corrales this time to jump with some re walk and complete why wouldn't you throw it to the six five six four nine Corral's it's worked once that time piranhas just this time to jump I'm not sure you had a great shot at it had he timed it well I think that ball may have been a little out of bounds a little too far out of play but it's a good it's good to play as any for Sam Howell in this offense under the circumstances and now Georgia Tech for some people Ruggles hit earlier just shy of 40 go there so Ruggles this is the field goal the Tar Heels are turned away after time plays America first round pick of the Tennessee Titans goes into the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame class Titus the jackets get started here on first down out on the perimeter to Malik Carter the second short coming up and Derek Morgan's good enough to join us first of all congratulations on the Hall of Fame last 10 years goes what happened to 10 years well he just retired now I did I did a couple months ago man it's been a great career and something I was coming to a culmination I'm glad I was able to play out both my contracts and you know leave on my own terms yeah and you've got some familiarity with Jeff Collins I'm doing the staff and you would get recruit what do you remember about coach Collins from the recruiting process oh man I'm he brought us all together man I think that our 7 class was something special man and I think you know that's what you need [Music] [Applause] this run of the day for Georgia Tech their best offensive play [Applause] knocked out of bounds but miles door on a 56 Derek Mitchell died [Applause] I got the first 10 yards for you that's it so they're back to the 27th Georgia Tech offensively now with Tobias Griffin in the ball game to work with James Graham how about these uniforms solder they're awesome they're awesome we're gonna quote for the inside [Applause] to perceive it you gotta be playing games so we'll see the replay here tell me what you think I don't know man like kind of strong room to see if it comes down with it right though yeah that's a good call you're gonna take my job now I don't know about that so tell me about going in the Hall of Fame I mean you get you get that call from Georgia Tech saying hey we're gonna we're gonna bring into the Georgia Tech jalapeño [Applause] but what was that what was that like food you know to be honest then I wouldn't even thinking about it I didn't I wasn't even aware that the Hall of Fame was coming up or that I was even eligible for it and I thought I had to be you know gray hair that actually get into the Hall of Fame but you know like we talked about ten years ago by like that and so to be inducted is just a real honor man I'm coming lad that I was able to kind of get that that opportunity and it's a real blessing and I feel really humbled and feel really blessed to be inducted Derrick you were here at a transitional time you mentioned the l7 class which rowdy was part of as you were Jonathan Juarez with Demaryius Thomas all those guys yeah the other interesting note about it is that was also coaching change Tanguay into Paul Johnson a little bit like and here's Jeff planting of aperture protection all right so it is confirmed as an incomplete pass I guess the point I make about the coaching change is you had to go from Chan Gailey to Paul Johnson kind of new philosophies much like what this Georgia Tech team exactly it's a rebuilding phase almost right is I think we were kind of anomaly right where we kind of went you know in the positive direction from day one but I think anytime you have a coach to change I mean I had five head coaches throughout my NFL career and it's almost like you got to take you know two steps back to go three steps forward but it's a process when you look at this Georgia Tech team obviously offensive and defensive lines don't necessarily fit with coach Collins ultimately long but but what do you see better positives to build on I think the emphasis there right I think you see a lot of guys that love to play football they do their enthusiasm is there you can see that on the sideline it's calming they got that energy going so I mean you could build off there that's a fundamental that you got to have guys that love to play ball yes take us through with this next step for Derek organs like I came into this last year 2018 kind of knowing in my mind without my last my last year and I've been setting up things off the field about my whole career that so I knew this day was coming so you know it's a kind of ease in the transition so I'm really excited about this next chapter the Georgia Tech touchdown Tanaka [Applause] James grant doesn't miss twice put that one in the corner of the endzone Georgia Tech's on the board and now it's a two score game so this is interesting very especially Thurman gonna stop on defense porn actors good 91 great to see ballot Carter to touchdown Georgia the games between these two teams you'd be hard-pressed to find one that a Durham has knocked off this is sorb TJ Thorpe returning it for the first time any clues Thorpe at the 40 of Clemson at the 20 he's gonna take it to the house touchdown Carolina oh yeah that's technically come back in Jones in motion here is Nesbitt tossing this is Jones he'll cut back at the Dan Ronny at the five yes stored in the South endzone touchdown Georgia Tech and ferrati Jones in the end zone what did it took you that many games to school his Carter on the kick and Malik got Carter out to the 29 I appreciate you guys doing that so you can't say it but the Durham family the Durham name it has a lotta weight at these two schools for what your dad did it Carolina for so long what you did here at Georgia Tech for so long see you Brian Simmons downstairs today with Jones angels through the Carolina game Sean Bedford who I did his games with you and you play and Brian sentences on the last Carolina team to win my dad's all-time favourite Carolina players and he hated making favorites it was Tommy McMahon who's now a linebackers coach who played linebacker from Dumfries Virginia who's on that ground staff it's been like it's been like getting in a time machine today Mack Brown last night overlaid the background your dad would've asked me that that's exactly right the ball is juggling the ground Danny Brown and complete rot even the momentum here after the personal foul penalty on Charlie heck isn't that simple or I think during this little game learn Carolina this has not taken advantage of all attendees the personal foul kennedy certainly works but this club is starting to get back into it they're starting to believe that it being a t-score and you've got that success going to these guys in the fly I'm super sad 8 of 13 on third down moose and the cats and not going anywhere what an effort that time of Johnny ker held on and got - Newsome down will the difference between the first half in the second half Georgia Tech opts to send three and drop eight knowing that those slots are a tough matchup in man-to-man coverage so you just play back let him catch the ball in front of you Riley and tackle Georgia Tech and you can feel it in this building people are kind of start to believe starting to believe that they are in this football game yep so here is Kiernan the young man from Ireland who came to the United States ends up as a putter and this is blank Otto you'll be taken down by so rap shy of the 35 timeout in Atlanta James Graham back to work in a moment [Music] News Graham and his first true start as the Yellowjackets quarterback where he is the showcase at quarterback so after the touchdown pass to Carver Jerry Allen in the backfield and gray on runs into Surratt for a gain of four to the 31 thirty-six every second down at six this is really the first time you felt like North Carolina's defense is going to need a stop avoidance be able to affect momentum look like the ball might have been moving their West but don't hit the ground super here why did it snapped there's no stoppin to play here play on and this is Basin for Carolina's Aaron Crawford leads the parade there 92 has been the definition of a run stopper here this afternoon what we're coming into this game jason Strowbridge he's covered the headliner he's the guy that NFL NFL scouts are really excited about but Aaron Crawford has been a man in this game dominating that matchup against a sinner AC both of them right there Georgia Tech has moved the pocket a lot on these third downs to avoid the rush that those to cook revival so now third and nine Grahame Fox got to and enforced the incompletion and as well as corporatist played so his time on Fox for the Tar Heels actually on these third downs it has been Tom on Fox that has absolutely dominated his matchup is able to run the right pass that 20 of the left tackle put pressure on James Graham who like he may impact a receiver open to the bottom but not able to get it off so Presley Harvin to punt it to - Newsome take long handles the snap that drives this with Medusa [Applause] skip out-of-bounds and that brings us to a moment where we can tell you of course ACCC network primetime football presented by Geico tonight Wallace Wade Stadium where the Panthers at Blue Devils Beach for the late game Tim Hasselbeck the preview well it looks like this game might come down to that pit pass rush getting after Clinton Harris 24 sacks on the season for bit but they're gonna see some of that triple option and West I know this I know that Roddy can tell you about that triple option hard to defend could be an interesting one all right look forward to Tim Dave O'Brien Katie George back with him tonight at Wallace Wade Stadium under the lights Powell here in the flat this is Newsome who came on the orbit he's going to be stopped shy of the 30-yard line by Miles sense of the jackets suck it down coming up here third-quarter move along quickly flip the Carter big save first down to the 36 and now a flags been thrown I don't know Danny Brown looked like he was mixing it up over on the far side with tres swilling [Applause] they've been certainly been costly a Bolivar the Georgia Tech player so sure about that off of what we saw there we are [Applause] tries to move around the pocket it'll be third floor Chris Martin was the first Georgia Tech player their first sack of the day for the jackets Shelton Dawson as well getting back their big number 90 wearing that number and honor Brandon Adams but [Music] sixteen [Applause] something was going along they've got three seconds respect to the top eight again three Paulo tonight Corrales it's a first down to the 37 I thought it was for gas Newsome and he went over the top of Newsome to boat Corrales for 20 gas news but was the - Newsome - but Corrales able to hook up right at the sticks and on the third and 16 Corrales makes the catch don't wanna convert that's incredible the best bald-ass this have never caught burst intent now on the play fake to Jim Otte weddings looking Newsome it was thrown behind gas Newsome with blogaid Thomas defending for Georgia Tech back to the third down play a team that runs his bust press man as Georgia Tech does when you drop eight sometimes you're not comfortable in coverage like that expect your detect to simply do what they do best for now on on third downs how many times do you see those guys drop down zone drop two yards too deep and the guy hooks up right at the sticks just like we found in joy Oliver off the field he was shaken up and so Jim Flanagan and his groove I want to get these teams back out here because Oliver was able to get off the field so there's no need to stop play there's the young man Oliver who went to Oakland high school up in the Middle Tennessee area Murfreesboro sucking at the filter deep shot toe crows overthrown incomplete frustrated how many of those that they can miss almost five by my count the separation there is incredible a good route combination and North Carolina could be riding up this scoreboard really testing them all the scores but not able to compete to connect on a lot of these deep [Applause] which he said Georgia Tech back looking like they're gonna press backs up throws day on the ground at the 49 to use third down conversions for the Tar Heels in this drive or was massive to get pressed man Tommy Brown does a good job of pushing past the sticks getting to 13 yards and then coming back to Sam Howell so that he's able to catch the ball with enough for the first down thrown over run by javante Williams and let's see what we have here you got one in the neighborhood of illegal substitution the other may be an offsides Georgia Tech trying to get players off the field here substitution so the Williams run 238 stance against Collins team back to that third down play Sam owl moves a little bit but you see Brown coming back to the football able to catch it against some re Walt and pushes him past the sticks and then comes back that's textbook for any young receiver out there looking at what to do on a third complete Eric I don't know how you see it at field level but it's Sam how's my quarterback I don't stop running no he is absolutely excellent pocket presents and he does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field at all times I heard Ambo Sweeney say it last week and compared him to Baker Mayfield and it jumps off the field to me he does a great job of keeping his base always resetting on balance for his throws as he moves just like Baker Mayfield does here's Carter to the 31 32 yard line third down coming up 96 seconds to play here in this third period at that point that you just made about his base was fantastic because he did it on that third down as well faded a little to his left sets and throws matter faces another fair guy with the wind being a factor on the last field goal is really whipping down here at field level this is true for down territory for North Carolina here so if they choose how to fill long those book farther to carry and agree play about Delta Dawson Dawson does a fabulous job of fighting through to get Carter on the ground and now 47 is the call well Eric that the play call would suggest that the North Carolina coaches agree with you and sure enough they're leaving the offense on the meal they certainly didn't anticipate to lose on worse you think to three yard game gets us into important man the Berlin fourth of all Tar Heels are nine of 11 on fourth down this season cross the middle Tok Tok girls first down at the 10 [Applause] some nice rock nomination coming from the right side Oh staring down the Barrell oppressor delivers that football and it's a little behind your receiver but when your quarterbacks under pressure that balls catchable you've got to come down with it especially on fourth down toque Rose Ron taneous groves does it right there hi Sam how now second 300 yard game of his young career he had 323 and 3 touchdowns in the lost Appalachian and here with 19 seconds to go in the 3rd the throw to groves pushes him over 300 here today and where Jordan swilling is shaken up well thinking back to some of those missed opportunities deep down the field some of the drop passes Sam how could have about 450 in this game had all of those been completed Jordans willing the one down on the field it appears to be an upper body injury he is the one that made contact with Hal at the end of the play not sure exactly what happened but oftentimes you will not see the defender that hits the quarterback as the one injured as we do see here yeah Jeff Collins out there helped up Bruce Jordan swimming from New Orleans I'll go back to what we had what earlier in this period when Carolina was in this neighborhood Ronnie 17 nothing game at the time and the value or the premium on the possession is just you see Jordan swilling walk-off really for both schools we go to the fourth Carolina 17 Georgia Tech 7 with Ronnie Jones Eric wood West Durham first and 10 for the Tar Heels at the Jackets 2013 way of the drive coming up for the freshman Sam Howell over 300 yards for the second time it's the Carter and David curry with a tackle around the shoulder pads after a 2 yard game that's a really good play by David curry Michael Carter saw the cut back and was able to put his foot in the ground and get back and that's a quick running back Kurt he's able to stop on a dime bring a low them around his shoulder pads and get him down to the ground really good play by the Georgia Tech live huh couple receiver right there trying to figure out who's gonna cover them now it's gonna cost up with time out Christian Campbell's last lid out there Georgia Tech so Jeff Collins easy fellas remain calm all as well back after this to normal keep you on 58cm incredible way to dance javante Williams with him out of the Georgia Tech timeout looking to the end zone day out can he get a foot [Music] [Applause] over-the-top mitrice willing balls up in the air Brown goes up I points it put down in the end zone and wow these Carolina receivers it's been a little inconsistent at times but you see this is a young group with incredible talent great ball skills and at their best they are one of the best in the ACC that is a great catch by D on the ground third touchdown pass of the day for Howell 23 to 7 the score in Ruggles point after is good another two were pretty good this might be the best of the bunch here that Carolina team that had gone one in 10 1 and 10 and 89 88 and 89 went 6 4 and 1 Tommy Thigpen told me earlier there's Tommy that's when we started to believe and a couple years later they beat Mississippi State down the street at the old Georgia Dome to win the chick-fil-a bowl sometimes you need those statement wins where you're able to stand up to a really good football team and it gives you the confidence to propel a program a back ground grill to power house [Applause] the return will get to about the 27 from Dante Smith the young freshman don't forget Thursday coming up on ACC network one of the best women's soccer matches of the night and really of the fall number three Carolina number 10 Duke over in Durham 7 o'clock Eastern on ACC Network and an ESPN M by the way back reiterated earlier this week Georgia Tech tied us honestly though that's the mentality you go one in 10 one in 10 that's the mentality that he had and that's why he turned it into a top 5 program by the letter went to Texas yeah 1997 Justin choppy that he stole this yes sir here's Graham Bank now trying to down one deep and a bargain Brown they returned for it it was underthrown by about 10 yards Greg Ross covering for Carolina this is not the situation that Georgia Tech wants to be a nun offense and especially this offensive line as a whole this offensive line had to put on a combined 80 pounds between them to get up from their triple option wait to get to this size and getting teed off down after down and pass rush is not ideal for them yeah we saw a shot at a pad notice I would say he's been a little frustrated with the quarterback play in general he's excited about the jam grant to do it that's because Nauticus Sanders has had a big day it continues he rips off the big play inside the 30 bonds of the 33 it's a 31-yard throw from great existed out grant puts it right on the money side the fifth receiver breaks a tackle and unless I've been pretty impressed with the skill of these receivers particularly malecon Carter and Annika Sanders know Amari and Brown can absolutely fly there is some talent on the perimeter of this Georgia Tech team the question is can you find somebody to deliver it and I think they have a James Graham and can you protect up front they're gonna hand the ball at Jerry Howard the biggest to the backs blast through that will be first and ten inside the 15 at the 14 on the gimel tackle you would cover guys like Sanders who had three catches on the year coming in now has three catches today and Jerry Howard giving you some punch he and Mason two of the better runs today here in the second half Rhonda you mentioned they may have somebody in James Graham it would their offensive coordinator was talking about him he said last week he had some furs that looked like an NFL quarterback and then some that sailed into the stands there's James great evicted reading run turns the energy he's pulled out of bounds by Ross at the tune Burstyn go [Applause] Oh the corner over to play man-to-man James grant maybe we could get a big game Joe Mason touchdown Georgia Tech just like that the jackets matched the Tarheels [Music] about James Graham who Dave Patenaude told us as one of the shortest memories of any chlorinate quarterback he's ever coached delivers a strike outside to get the big play to Adamic as Sanders able to run the ball with Graham and Mason and now Georgia Tech join for two down 11 Graham gonna jump ass Tyler Davis the tidy for two points now we got ourselves a whole new ballgame with 12 25 to go Ronnie great play design this is the touchdown George Mason into the end zone and then completed trailing by 9 12 25 to go collets since it uses tinker King send it to Michael Carter Georgia Tech's Jerry Howard stuck Carter on the kick return solet Orioles get back to well today is cape day and the jackets honoring the children who are battling disability and illness with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta these but Dena's design jerseys the Onyx gray look at Kate day has been big Eric's got a cake wouldn't what an awesome thing for Georgia Tech to partner with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta chose the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta has done since 2014 Georgia Tech just getting involved this year it's an annual these caves to support and honor the superheroes the kids that are fighting those illnesses it's absolutely awesome javante williams swung out of bounds by juan de thomas and earlier today Georgia Tech presented the checkup $11,000 for the check on the field to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta part of the success of these jerseys said the jerseys being worn today will be auctioned off later as well rowdy yeah absolutely and all the proceeds from the replica jerseys and replica capes being sold most of the tokens out there as well what a bullet to Corrales out to the 30-yard line Sam out reloaded this one I think he takes an absolute shot as he's waiting for this to come open we'll watch him just stand in the pocket he's gonna deliver the football knows he's gonna take a hit through an absolute strike to boat Corrales has been very impressive even on the Miss Rose and he's right there it seems like every time the ball is his hands Chris Martenson either hit it for the jackets first intent Carolina side of the 30 javante Williams breaking prey looks to the outside is going down as Williams gets to the Georgia Tech 42 43 yard line Tar Heels are pointing toward the jackets here for the penalty personal foul face masks on the 32 on the deep end [Music] [Applause] young chewing the young man from Belgium called for the facemask had a shot right there javante Williams all he was able to get was a finger on the helmet Williams able to Rumble down and attack on 15 to the end of it North Carolina team they've looked incredibly balanced today obviously we thought they were going to be able to run the ball against his short attack team having missed some shots in the pass game it's always good to be able to fall back on that run game when you have to nearly time we're now passing for Howell now 336 on the day javante Williams tries to keep his feet Georgia Tech got too much pressure Antoine Owens was there along with Devon Brooks and Charlie Thomas and I was a little slow to get up he's gonna kill me the cold tub the ball did not pull up at all on that shop with Sam how sticking the ball on the receiver and the running backs belly it allows him to take that job replay Danny Brown complete with tres willing but and Carolina's going to get a free five out of an early move from Georgia Tech I love the awareness of Sam how here to take a shot down the field after the offsides you often see that from the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers and take a shot down the field because then you get a shot and a big play on a catch and if you get a pass interference down there you tack that on and you take the 15-yard penalty instead of the five it's cool how Aaron Rodgers kind of made that cool baton and in hurry up situations catching them with 12 on the field and now everybody tries to do it with the hurry up and a little management here of the clock with 10 12 to play Wes honestly I'm surprised derekdon says was a great job by the center as well that time Brian Anderson seeing the guy cross the line of scrimmage snapped the football let's operate the center doesn't snap it then it doesn't matter come on he would I thought you'd get you defend your center right there give him some problems no I will and Anderson is a guy please reset the game clock to 10 minutes and 28 seconds please Anderson's a guy that built long ago specifically complemented after last week's perform and said his best game of the year came against the best competition they faced all year in the Clemson defensive line Carolina's lost one of their best leaders in the offensive line and Nick polino at center so that falls on the South Pole Anderson making his fourth start here's how shoots another one Corrales the cat's got hit immediately [Music] and that was smile Sims but I think it's enough for the first down the legacy and it is 17 [Music] Rowdy you said this earlier and a half Carolina young skill if they can get really good on the offensive line there's no reason his team is not going to be really good going forward there's Worcester the touchdown Carolina for Garry Walston 16 yard throw Boston's first touchdown of the year for touchdown pass of the day for Sam how up the sideline flips the hits able to make the play and then leans in the end zone is that put inbound looks like there might be a little sliver of green I don't know how much close right there see if they want to look at it they will darling on the field it's a touchdown if it's not a touchdown it'll be first and goal at the 1 this was light colored cleats make it hard to determine whether or not it's on there he definitely gets the pylon question is is that foot on the line another great effort director out of Brian his camera boats here today this is a super shot the best with at least writing what we've seen is this one right there there I got there I don't know I don't think I don't think there's enough to overturn it you can see the line is obstructed but I don't know I would say that this one stands in my opinion maybe the refs have a better feed on it than I do but there's not enough fair to say that his hood definitely was on the line even though it is obstructing the line you can't see the line there obviously because it's puts in front of it but is that a result of the angle or is that a result of his foot being on there chef Flanagan is going through a long look here and command center in Greensboro the replay crew here all having a look-see touchdown for walleston he came into the ballgame with a 40 yard catch at Wake Forest and he's been a presence in the throne game for Howell here today the great job of flipping his hips and I think that's a good job by the referees and taking a look at it but Wes you and I sat in those officials through the replay officials meetings this summer and the question always was that came up is there enough to go against what the call in the field was and in that case there was not Ruggles punches through the point Carolina has doubled the number on Georgia Tech after 10 to go in Sam Powell his full / career-high 362 and now four touchdowns this was their first they went 87 yards in six plays in 232 to make it 31 15 after the Ruggles kid Brownstein puts the puts it back on Jeff Collins at Georgia Tech's offense who does have two touchdowns here at the second hand dick is gonna be filled with Dante spent the freshman 25 and Smith will be brought down shy of the 30-yard line right so I speed just a little bit higher than bond but we had fun and we appreciated Georgia Tech taking us behind the scenes of the catapult system that so many schools are now using that ball got broken up on the way to Davis [Applause] that was storm duck reaching ahead and now I want to go more about to the readout on the computer screen there 20 will coach Ryan Horton took us through it you see him there and he runs this catapult system for Georgia Tech which gives readouts like the ones that that Eric and I got it gives top speed overall load how far these guys are traveled acceleration and deceleration numbers talking about how taxed they are and they use it in a preventative way to try and prepare guys for games but also to try and bat guys off when they're low these increases if the load that they've had over the last week is greater than what they've been training for all right then they sit a guy down a little bit so that he doesn't pull a hamstring or have another soft-tissue injury see see that was you've already brought up the most important reason that durable stop there oh man load management we tried to get you out there load management strawberryk you think hey we got it we got a compliment west though he's down 46 pounds this year my man's doing great but but he was not willing to get on the COPO with us but the biggest thing you said injuries are down and they've seen a number of injuries through training camp especially where guys get worn out they've been able to get those guys off the field just before a lot of times when they would great I've got blasted by Crawford Malachi Carter couldn't hang on on the back end but Aaron Crawford has been really good to do more Aaron Crawford as a matchup that he likes that time he's over in Zach pointy the left tackle and yeah absolutely Vance James Bram that's real nice to be the starting quarterback but that means you got to take the starting quarterback hits from the big fellas like Aaron Crawford who tips the scales at 290 Pressley Harvick will punt it away - gasps Newsome 928 - go rowdy mentioned earlier we wanted to come into the game talking a lot about Jason Strowbridge and he has flashed a little bit today but it's really been all airing Crawford in Strowbridge his defense he has battled an injury all season he is looking very forward to this bye week coming up next week where he can get some downtime get fully healthy and make a big push for their ACC slate coming up do some signals for the fair catch albeit 3/4 of the way through ball flight but it's at the 27 for Sam Howell don't forget I'm telling you you need to catch up on the full day of ACC football scores highlights breakdowns opinions cheese balls sports everything else always DC sandwiches 10 bites nobody covers in like we do 11 o'clock Eastern tonight on ACC Network and the ESPN app Kelsey Riggs will try and keep decorum with EJ Eric back play and coach Rick that crew does a great job not only keeping you up-to-date on what's going on like Sam Howells big day those career highs 362 and four touchdowns but also it gets weird man it gets weird that on ACC with all ACC late life yes it does that's a run of about five on first down for Michael Carter has carried the ball 16 times today for 58 yards but he is also caught two balls for 36 yards this is the point of the game work North Carolina's offensive line simply has to take over they outweigh Georgia Tech's defensive line by an average of forty pounds per player this late in the game as many places North Carolina has run it'll be huge for them to just simply lean on them and get ground to get yards on the ground here is Carter first down run beyond the 40 to the 41 David curry a part of the tackle he's been in a ton of those today for Georgia Tech certainly this is the 85th play for North Carolina her in terms of leadership he obviously has been fantastic but you can see the development and these guys getting more comfortable in this new defense that coach Jeff Collins defensive coronary injuries backer have brought David Currie a guy that has flourished since this thing was instituted first intent Carter again Charlie Thomas a big-time play in the open space take Carter down behind the line heckle Carter had a choice to make as a running back right about here you got to decide whether you're gonna cut it upfield and challenge the linebacker whether you're going to make it a footrace Carter decides to try and make it a footrace and Charlie Thomas has the speed as the guy who's played some of the shorter Tech secondary in the past it's got the speed to be able to get out in the alley and bring down the talented and shifty Michael Carter due to a loss of three North Carolina running a play clock all the way back Powell gonna throw it out of bounds over the top of Michael Carter it will be third down and this is the kind of thing that Mack Brown was talking about last night the ability with Phil Lago to change gears to one simple 150 plays in the first half and now here at the fourth of 16 points with seven minutes to go you can kind of downshift this is what they did last week against Clemson it was a more check with me to the sidelines off and there was a slower offense here on a third longer you want to make sure you get the right ball a lot of guys hanging around around the line of scrimmage for Georgia Tech Georgia Tech gonna bring some pressure Al's gonna throw here is Newsome turning upfield and he will have the first down to the 48 yard line 14 yard play on third and 13 to - Newsome oh you have that many guys you gotta think pressures coming and Newsom has run this round a couple of times just a little whiff from where it goes in comes back out gets in space nice little moves out there in the open field to hesitate the defender and is able to get the first down Roddy Jones dead leg on oh man yeah well you know it's got a winner from somewhere is shaking it down trying if I did the dead leg now I Whitney dead the third and long conversion sorry to cut you off and you're talking about your special moves Ronnie those third long conversions this game to me has probably been the biggest difference in this game Carter maybe a yard maybe not so many drives have been extended on third downs over 10 yards a percentage that is so low in college football but on the day you have seen Sam Howell and his receivers make so through the air extending drives and at that point they've really been able to wear Georgia Tech down Eric your ride and coming into this game North Carolina was only twenty three point one percent on third and seven plus they are certainly higher than that here today that's a great call by you they have been really good on third downs in general especially third long gasol Lonnie Galloway the wide receivers coach briefly here is to Vontae Williams and that's another first down on second and ten Galloway who grew up in each North Carolina played at Western Carolina Roddy and coached in Louisville last year there's one of the offensive coordinators and Eric you know this he had guys he could work with them or Cardinals a year ago and when that change occurred he was more than happy to get a homecoming to come back to North Carolina and he's got a fabulous group to work with the Chapel Hill yeah and a talented group of receivers at Louisville and he again does here we've seen it on full display today that's Newsome in motion javante Williams has got a career-high today he's of a hundred and three yards and maybe a half yard to it there's we go inside of five minutes to play well interesting noted share with you guys today home teams were six and five at ACC play was played the day started Louisville beat Boston College by two at Cardinal Stadium so seven in five Virginia Tech leads Miami by six with four minutes to go and buy a me the ball and Carolina leads here with four and a half minutes to go by 16 that Miami Virginia Tech game I would say that's the surprise of the weekend so far and in hooker gets the start for Virginia Tech at quarterback and let me tell you if they win this game Ryan Willis may not get that ball back javante williams may house this inside the 10 brought down inside the five saving tackle made by zibari wolf once Avante Williams's had a day well they called him their most complete pack does a great job of pass protection runs physically as you see him finishing the run there at the end and then also has the speed to be able to make you pay so he's the total package and it's interesting coming into this year Mac Brown was obviously very complimented and complimented of his entire running back group Michael Carter was the headliner javante Williams has slowly taken steps to be good guy in the back bill with a career-high here today way clock at five first to go they fumbled it picked it up handed it to javante Williams who reroutes and scores [Applause] and with 324 to go javante Williams gets his third touchdown run of the year in his first today like that's like a heat check in basketball all right let's see if we can mess up everything on the play and still score a touchdown tomando Williams makes a move finds a crease takes on a defender falls in the end zone he's a pretty high he's on fire today that's what we would say if he was his NBA Jam yeah you would sometimes it's better to be lucky than good Brian Anderson falls into a block on David curry as he's laying on the ground reaches his forearm up and knocks curry off on where he can't make the play javante will keep the he'll add points to but wait it gets better they played six times as members of the HCC and four of those games they've combined for 70 or more up those four three have been 90 or more Z's fireworks fireworks tonight so settle in at 8 o'clock it's gonna feel like pac-12 after dark with that many heavy points scored an all-acc after dark follow them the kicked or Dante Smith here's the Pressman trying to find a seat which is it across 30 and that's where Georgia Tech with 317 will get started well I'd say Michael Carter's numbers might not be as statistically compelling as javante Williams but I would stack up both as very effective and that doesn't include what Carter has done in the past game where he's done most of his damage with the screens and little balls out in the flat where he's been able to run after the catch but Javonte Williams has been fantastic in these two guys form one of the tandems in the ACC when you're talking about running backs there's there's Travis etn and Lynn Jay Dixon up in Clemson South Carolina and after that this group is in the conversation for best in the league Graham backing up gonna slip [Applause] first down 45 slides down at the 48 17 yard run and Georgia Tech hurries to the line here honestly I I've been impressed by what I've seen from James bran here today his ability to rebound yeah he's missed a couple throws here and there but I think Georgia Tech has found the quarterback yeah I think it's James Graham's ball from here on the question is around him often they create enough pressure excuse me how can they keep him from getting pressured enough for him to be able to make throws like that Tobias Oliver the catch by the way now rowdy here's the tricky part for Jeff Collins an offensive coordinator Dave fat mode you still got one of the best athletes in the ACC and Tobias Oliver you got to find a way to get him off the field and the ball to him and just like we saw him in this game I think there's a small wow for his f all is a little too far inside and almost picked off by lo be a grown up yep egg bone of the freshman from Charlotte Christian but working in Tobias Oliver I mean it's not a hard sell to go to Tobias and say hey you're gonna be an NFL player from a talent standpoint let's get you out of position when you can play there and that's that receiver so he's gonna have his packages he's going to have his ability to get the ball oh and be surprised when he ends up a running back at some point just to take some snaps as well here goes itself gotta bounce by Don Chapman Jake Bateman the defensive coordinator from Carolina told us a fascinating story about Chapman last night who you see show Grahame out-of-bounds Don Chapman was kind of a late ahead after background got the job at Bateman was hired off Jeff Monken army staff and Chapman was a guy that they had seen when he was recruiting for West Point and he had family in North Carolina area they called him up see the edges to here's a Barney groaning star for the touchdown and Chapman got beat there by the speedy freshman Brown oh I'll tell you one that's the type world that makes James Brown the guy pressure coming from the inside and he's able to deliver an absolute dime on the run to a bar and brown down the field that's the tool that gets you excited about the young quarterback m5 plays 68 yards in 99 seconds Amari and Brown who had a touchdown catch on opening night at Clemson in the end zone for a second time this year so now with 145 to go it's a 16 point Carolina Lee put a good look at bats slipped by the defender Don Chapman Chapman thought that Brown was gonna stay outside look back the quarterback Brown slipped to the inside of him was wide open down the sideline and we saw it earlier on a third down where James Graham got a little excited with an open Malachi Carter throws that ball out of bounds that's the development being able to make that broke you know essentially we've dumped at chaplains recruiting I mean from Jeff Collins shared with us the bar Ian Brown was a guy who he recruited when he was the only coach in Atlanta he was still waiting on other staffers to join him either from Temple who had a bowl game against Duke radhiya down in Shreveport or guys who weren't coming in from other jobs he said I single-handedly sorry it's looking like it's a good kid he's he's a different kind of athlete different kind of speed it and that's the type of guy that Jeff Collins wants right in this team you know you look across at what Mack Brown is done here earlier detects gonna set up for the onside kick in these two coaches without different hands in terms of what they want to do and what they heard we're gonna try [Applause] they scramble for it at the 45 no ruling as to who has it yet Carolina does Ricky kind of wobbled this alone very good job by britain king of just getting a slow roller it's a fantastic play there about dads Newsome you'll be able to wait-wait-wait-wait-wait pounds on it there you go jump on it do exactly where the line was to and you want to get it right before it crosses that line when you know what's going to so the other team can't touch it he does a really good job of going for those those those guys on the offensive on the onside kick team can't go for it until after it goes ten yards you go forward at nine and a half and you've got the you got the jump on it you got it javante Williams back to work timeout taken by Georgia Tech and we get a quick check of the coastal with 138 to play Carolina win today would be 2 & 1 & 3 & 3 & a bye week before going to Blacksburg on the 19th of October rowdy a trip to Blacksburg looking a little differently depending on how that Virginia Tech Miami game ends up right Virginia Tech could be owin 3 and the Koestler could be a 1-1 team in the coastal but I think if you were to ask Mack Brown before the year coach after six games your three and three how are you feeling right and he would have told you great with the schedule that they had South Carolina Miami at Wake Forest appstate Clemson at Georgia Tech right 3 wins coming out of the first six is great it's a really good job of managing the schedule now going in the back half the schedule can you go 3 & 3 I think there's enough there for this Carolina team to do that and potentially make a bowl game which would be a huge jump for Mack Brown's first well and Eric that's kind of where I was going to go see because I asked him specifically last night are you on schedule and he said if we went tomorrow in Atlanta he goes I think we'll be on schedule I thought that was fascinating that a lot of it was incumbent upon this game for Carolina to feel like they were making progress as we look ahead to what they've got remaining after about weekend in the 19th to Blacksburg yeah to your point Wes this is a game that they were favored but they were favored in this is a game they should win and coming into this game Mac talked about they had a tough week of practice that the energy the effort wasn't there they came off of very emotional loss the Clemson took they bounced back and not played down to an opponent play up to an opponent against Clemson and then drop their level of play and as we've seen today they missed on some opportunities early especially down the field but the effort consistently all day was high and so that's your point Brown the culture is getting closer to where he wants it at any mention three and three a terrible spot to be in when you consider how tough their schedules is here every one of their opponents this year made a bowl game in 2018 they brought 95 plays today and now we get a flag and procedure so 96 will not be here with 91 seconds left you see Phil Longo go through the period of sickness I asked him last night coach what's with the band so I was just here to pick up my yeast or white band it was hard to see things like that but the big band they I kind of know what I'm doing and they see it easier and he said I forgot it one day and they were my teammate coach where's that pink mate the group the great part of that story is that platers kept saying they couldn't see the fans until he got a pink one on they're like oh yeah good we can see that one Eric is there any chance the players could see the other ones but they just wanted him to wear the pink would yeah I think they're having some fun with Phil on this one yeah you would think maybe a highlighter green but he did say it was the breast cancer game they wore the pink well then they did well too so there you go superstition there a little bit of superstition in there as well yeah hard to believe a coach to be superstitious like riding exactly he's done I think he's done a fantastic job with this north and interesting you and I talked about this during the week that's convergent for what he did for bat look at all this and now to come to Carolina I'm a member dad what AJ Brown DK Metcalf but guys like Jefferson was on that team last year J Patterson at quarterback Jordan Todd last year but absolutely now Carolina we'll take a 30-second timeout here well career-high today three seventy six and four scores for Sam Howard he's he's got a he's got a guy there that's got a put he's got a chance to be special he looks a little bit like Baker as well he does he's only 18 years old and he's got a better beard than me I'm envious on this but you know he does and his footwork is absolutely incredible we asked them who is he going to model his game after because when you start as a true freshman I start as a freshman at Wilbur lows have to find other guys that you want to watch film on to push yourself and he said his favorite is Drew Brees and Sam house six-foot one drew Brees right around that same height that's a great guy for him to model because he's going to have to do similar things as Drew Brees in the pocket Georgia Tech brought the house and Koenig will kick it Tar Heels will touch it up at about the 24 with 36 seconds left and Georgia Tech will load it up for Duke next week and the Blue Devils play bit tonight so back to back in fact you look at Georgia Tech schedule they jump right into this guy's and I don't know if you saw this and looking earlier in the week six straight games in the coastal rowdy yes sir right before that NC State game six straight so it gets real and in Georgia Tech obviously is going to be an underdog and every single one of those games on the rest of the schedule the question is can you start to get some of those things going for you like turnovers can you get James Graham comfortable so he can make throws like that consistently product and then you got to manufacture a run game at some point you got to be able to fall back on that so I think what coach Collins and he told us this when he's focused on his in getting better every week I saw step there today from his quarterback taking a step at being better than he was a week ago cuz he has been 31 seconds left gram in here cut me loose Tar Heels are going to intercept it with DJ boards junior from Ashland Alabama is going to put a bow on a Carolina win here in Atlanta and just their second win in Atlanta against Georgia Tech since back ground one here on Halloween night in 1997 Dave Patenaude talked to us about these two what he calls close middle Thrones where you have a safety in the middle of the field which closes it off the ability to go deep down the middle it's the second time today North Carolina's gotten him the first interception was the same thing free safety being able to make a play picking it off had won against temple as well last week to get with the young quarterback occasionally you don't check that middle safety you check off everything else we've one thing off the checklist throw the ball and it ends up in the other team's hands so the Tar Heels are going to go to three and three two and one in the ACC [Applause] and Georgia Tech will fall to one in four they will be only two in conference play listen there's enough there for North Carolina where Mack Brown's gonna go back and say guys we did not play well to them right when you look at the drum ashes when you looked at someone in the states in terms of penalties there's a lot to clean up there's a ton to be excited about for North Carolina fans I mean the skilled position alone is going to have you in every single football game and number seven at quarterback is a guy that can deliver let's go
