Nora Ephron Salutes Mike Nichols at the AFI Life Achievement Award

ladies and gentlemen Nora Ephron shortly mike was interviewed in the New York Times for a piece about Julia Roberts and this is what he said Julia Roberts Meryl Streep and my wife those are the three women I love so apparently I am NOT one of Mike's three favorite women this seemed like a sad thing to learn when I was on the verge of having to write yet another tribute to him and I'm sure that some of you other speakers were operating under the same delusion that Natalie Candy Sigourney mary-louise Emma Elaine I mean what about Elaine just when you think he is won all the awards there turns out to be another I'm not referring to this one I had to call Mike a couple of weeks ago on the occasion of the accountant he had referred me to being arrested he couldn't talk because he was at the White House getting an award for being a Jew who knew there was an award for this but that's what he said at least none of us had to speak at it only the president right um I did however give him a Jew award once um we had to drive out to a synagogue in Shirley Long Island to do it but it was worth it because how many people get to speak at the Shirley Temple anyway all of us could be a boon well movie a pack of people who Oh Mike everything and are therefore doomed to spend eternity giving him awards love you
