Nome, Alaska Super Storm Sept. 2022

[Music] hey everyone what's going on kind of a special report here from gnome there's a huge mega storm coming in and here in the harbor here everyone's like going crazy trying to tie up and um you know secure the boats everyone's in there there's no one out in the ocean right now and uh even people from miles away kind of came into gnome here to buckle down for the for the storm uh yeah let me show you what's gonna happen so so let's see tomorrow uh the superstorm kind of gets geared up and right early Saturday morning right around one in the morning four in the morning um if you look up top here that's a 41 miles per hour sustained right here in Gnome and the wave is going to be 17.8 feet which is absolutely insane so a lot of these people actually think in the ocean is going to come up over this parking lot and like crash into these boats right here who knows if that's gonna happen but um yeah everyone's just kind of nervous tying everything down uh so I'm going to keep you posted throughout the the storm um right now everyone's just kind of hunkering down they're boarding up Windows and stuff around here yeah look at all these windows they're all boarded up they're expecting something really big I mean the ocean's just right there so let's check out uh West Beach we'll do like a little before and after so right now you can see the road's fine there's no like Driftwood or anything in here or rocks uh let's see what happens to this road after the storm uh you know the ocean's just right there so I don't know I don't know if this Road's gonna hold up but anyways this is the road that everyone uses to go down uh to their Beach boxes um and that's where I'm heading now I just want to see if everyone packed up down here I took my beach box off the other day because I'm totally afraid the ocean is going to come up and just take all this beach mining stuff away so um I packed it up brought it back and you know as soon as the storm's over I'll put it back but let's see what's going on down here this is usually where everyone hangs out and Beach mines hopefully they're aware of the mega storms coming in yeah I mean uh people know it's going down because uh the some of those Beach boxes are up on top of the tundra there I still don't even think that that's enough clearance I have a feeling that the waves are going to like crash into the tundra right there and like totally take out those uh boxes but I don't know hopefully those Beach boxes will be safe up top there looks like this guy's putting his four-wheeler up high but again I don't think that's high enough uh we still got a guy that has a tent oh no he's gonna lose that tent for sure and that blue Ford truck that thing's gonna be in the water this is where I usually have my box right here but I uh I cleaned it up uh I was just gonna put on top of the tundra there but I I honestly don't think that's high enough I think the ocean might even go up that high so I don't know looks like these guys are packing up I see some guys the trailer a four-wheeler and stuff maybe they took their Beach mine equipment [Music] yeah this blue truck kind of it's kind of been abandoned here for a little bit I'm not sure if there's an owner or not but that thing's gonna be probably in the ocean uh looks like a majority of these people packed up I see guys he's moving his Beach box right now yeah so the words out down here that there's a mega storm coming looks like uh there's still two or three Beach boxes left um you know I don't know hopefully they get them out of here yeah these guys are all packing up um I could see another Beach box down there though it looks like that guy accumulated a whole bunch of painter and he's not gonna be able to run it he's gonna lose all that pay dirt you know probably took a five or six seven truckloads of shoveling and shoveling out making his pile but the ocean's gonna take it there's just not enough time to run it I guess yeah it looks like some of these you know tents and little little places where people have been staying I don't know I don't think they're going to be safe there they're going to lose them for sure a little update from Dome Harbor about two hours into the storm and the wind is just breaking right now look at all the parts all lined up and the ocean man it's getting crazy coming up and over the sea wall look at that crazy stuff going on we're only two hours in we got 22 hours how is it up there windy oh yeah oh that Ocean's getting mad we still got way more time for this to get worse hey let's go check out if they got any gold there is this loose oh yeah look at that there's gold right there all right there right there oh look at all the steel there's a little flake like with gold all over Kelly's are actually making some gold oh this is Matt saluted with gold damn they're doing good they're actually getting gold this year oh damn all the way I can see a lot of gold right there on the other side damn those guys are doing good it's about time what kind of mat is that they got like one of those cell mats in here uh underneath the expanded metal oh yeah look at this some kind of like cell mat huh then they got uh then they got carpet again or miners Moss looks like they got miners Moss up top some kind of cell some kind of cell miners Moss miners Moss miners Moss all the way down to the end ready all right back to the storm we're not even anywhere close to the peak of the storm yet it's about 11 o'clock at night the peak will be at like 5 a.m and the harbor just completely went over the wall right here the water came up so much there's all types of debris in the water uh this is a road well it was a road now it's just uh it's the harbor the water is just coming up and over the walls it's crazy uh sorry it's kind of dark but um you know that's what's going on they're closing the road right here so I gotta get out of here before I get in trouble here they're gonna yell at me so I gotta go here's everyone just trying to tie down their boats you know uh there's a mistress here these guys are watching their boat real tight a whole bunch of roof panels just fell off that building in the thin thin pieces of metal that just I mean they'll slice right through you there's three of them that just fell off it was like a huge noise um but I'm gonna risk it I'm gonna go through all I can't I can't go the other way the road's close so I have to go this way hopefully none of those panels fall off and freaking mess up the truck there's a panel on the road right there all right here we go there's the gold chip right there that thing's like so high out of the water all these boats the water's just keeping them coming up it's gonna go over this wall like maybe an hour or two these boats are just uh they're holding on by a thread who knows what's gonna happen oh this could be gone in just like a matter of hours the storm is just kicking up so much sorry you can't see I mean it just it just rain driven it's like hurricane Force it's probably even worse than hurricane Force there's a Myrtle the Myrtle's deck look at the Myrtle's deck it's above the wall that is crazy there's like maybe three more feet and if that maybe two more feet of this water coming up and these boats will be like floating above the parking lot it's just crazy the Christine Rose is just bobbing around there's a rose right there look at her go look we're in the harbor look at that thing it's going up and down four feet oh my God we got to take a look at that that's not good that that might break line right there let's go check this out yes never this is insane water supply right now thank you we gotta go take a look at the ocean up here oh no it's coming up and over into the parking lot ion she's like a holy yeah get out of here go get the out of here ah get the out of here oh dude you need to go up over the goddamn road dude that's not good turn right turn left turn left no I'm serious get the out of here Brian go get the out of here no you're not gonna do that right there holy that was not cool dude that was not cool Brian we need to get the out of here dude it's not good it's not good wow dude this is crazy I'm sorry it's so dark I know you can't see it but the ocean is just going insane and there's so much more to come I wish this happened during the day height was about four o'clock this morning it's probably about 95 right now so but uh yeah let's go take a look around town look at this there's a freaking house under the bridge damn wow dude man this is insane this is a huge storm gnome Harbor is completely flooded over there I have to hide behind this thing to block the wind is so strong the ocean is just coming up and over the the brake wall over there I just saw a house underneath the bridge you can't even get to the harbor it's completely just flooded all the way around all the roads this is about as close as I can get to the harbor right here so far the upper parking lot here safe but who knows for how long West Beach right over here so here's what's West West Beach this is where I drove down yesterday to go check on uh Roger and you can tell that water is hitting that Tundra right where Roger's house is I hope he's all right so we had a before shot and now we have an after shot so this is exactly what I thought was gonna happen I figured the ocean would come right up and just take that road right out which it did and all those waves are coming up and and hitting into the tundra there so yeah I don't know I'm gonna have to wait till the water goes down and go check on Roger and see if we can find some gold on the beach there might be a whole brand new deposit it might be just Litter with gold on that beach who knows what the storm's um you know putting back up there so yeah just gotta wait it out and hopefully ocean will go down soon and we'll go out there and find some gold we are coming out of the small boat harbor and the water is just going right over the road wow totally crazy in the road there we go made it through thank goodness trying to dodge all this debris damn look at that the ocean's just coming right over the sea wall there crazy right into the road I don't know what this guy's doing he's chilling right there that's probably not the best place to chill the water's just coming up and over the beach line there underneath the package and just right down the road back to the harbor it doesn't even look like a harbor anymore it's just it's just chaos over there it's nuts wow that's unbelievable there's Sean he's helping out with the Christine Rose today after the storm and that was the house I was stuck underneath that bridge right over there they dragged it over here and now he's trying to help out oh he just found a hunting rifle uh that's what he did he stopped his excavator to save the guy's hunting rifle that's cool so this is two days after the storm and believe it or not gnome cleaned up really well everyone came together the the house was down here with a tons and tons of debris all over the place and everyone got together and cleaned it all up and also the streets all the woods off the streets this place looks really well mostly because there's just such a huge amount of mining equipment a lot of dozers and excavators and front end loaders so it took the town like no time at all just to clean this place up so almost everywhere as possible and it's only been two days since the storm so here we go here's West Beach I got the word that it was open down here um I don't know I see a big pile of logs but it looks like yeah it looks like it's been cleared oh sick okay there we go we finally can go down West Beach Let's uh let's go take a look um I'm just curious what what happened down here who knows a couple logs on the road got through that so this beach here changed dramatically there was a road that was like 10 feet above like this beach so that's gone this is all leveled now pretty crazy oh that crawler over there that thing fell down let's go take a look at that yeah that water came all the way up into this crawler and it got buried look at that the tracks tracks are buried wow I didn't know the water was gonna come up that far look at that thing jeez that thing's completely buried wow that was a big freaking storm I knew it that blue truck was gonna be hit by the ocean and there it is all torn to shreds the ocean took it so I just drove down the beach over there four or five miles and it completely changed down here all this Tundra is about 12 feet high and about 40 feet of it's missing so the tundra was a lot closer to the ocean so that all this is all brand new ground I've been doing a few test pans here and there some of it's got some good gold some of it you know not too good but there's definitely new gold on the beach within the next day or two there's going to be a lot of miners mining the beach down here so well known fared pretty well with the storm not a ton of damage to people's property a couple houses were lost none of the dredges or Boats were lost so that's good so yeah just the most of the damage is uh here to the beach and it's kind of good damage because now we get to mine for gold again that's all so if you want to continue along with my next video I'm gonna go check on Roger and see how he
