reason but some of those events certainly contributed I was really disappointed in the way the players acted after the game you got to win with class you got to lose with class we had our opportunities to win the game and we didn't do it and then showing your ass and being frustrated and throwing helmets and doing that stuff that's not who we are and what we've promoted in our program Sabin also said going bigger picture I thought maybe we could have a the team next year and then maybe 70 80% of the players you talk to all they want to know is two things what assurances do I have I'm going to play because they're thinking about transferring and how much are you going to pay me our program here was always built on how much value can we create for your future and your personal development academic success in graduating and developing an NFL career on the field so I I'm saying to myself maybe this doesn't work work anymore that the goals and aspirations are just different and that it's all about how much money you can make as a college player I'm not saying that's bad I'm not saying that's wrong I'm just saying that's never been what we were all about and it's not why we had Success Through The Years wow Kean your reaction to sabin's reasons for retiring well I think it's all of that yeah times have changed yeah and he tried to make some adjustments but it just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and and and Nick Savin is kind of old school he does it differently he's right there's nothing wrong with guys making money I mean that's fine they want to get paid and guys want to know are you going to allow me to be me to get on the field What insurances do I have because it's much easier now when when before the rules change if you transferred you had to sit out a year now you can just trans a killer it's just like yeah so it was easier to hold somebody back and keep them yeah and develop them nowadays if I'm trying to get to the NFL I don't have time to mess around caring about a national championship it's cool along the way it's good along the way but my goals when I enter the college is get to NFL let's not fool each other with the nonsense my goals in college again is to get to the National Football League but if I can get to the National Football League and play for a lesser team that may not go to a championship and I'mma still get my money but I got a chance to display my talent and still develop is totally different I don't necessarily kids don't necessarily need college coaches the way they did in the past to develop and what I mean by that is in the off season there's coaches that will train you that know they stuff good point okay y That's why a lot of guys when you see these quarterbacks they got quarterback coaches that they go to to prepare them to get ready for the National Football League I don't care who you are okay that's just what happens there's receivers that go to receiving coaches that played in the National Football League coached in the National Football League that they go to in the off season the coaches in don't have control no more Nick Sabin Once Upon a Time he had control over college football right nobody said anything but we all know how dirty the SEC was okay Nick doesn't want to admit it but it was a dirty business they was doing nil before nil was created they was just doing it their own way sure now it's a even playing field across the board you go to an Alabama you may get I don't know a $300,000 nil deal but you might have to sit two or three years before you really jump to the next level y but I can go to Oregon State yeah and pick up a buck 50 but I'mma Be on the field so it's totally Chang he don't want to deal with that no he that's that's what he's saying he doesn't want to go in the locker room and and talk to kids about coming back it was easy to go in a locker room after a loss to Georgia several years ago and say we going to have a better team and come back and the guys would all Buy in now it's like well you only played me x amount of minutes and I only got x amount of touches I can go get that over there and get paid or I could transfer the old missing play and get paid or I could transfer to Maryland and get paid and play and the NFL Scouts can see me and I can still get an education so this is what he's saying and he's not wrong it ran him away it literally it it ran him away the irony is that for years coaches have had free reign to move whenever they wanted to move they might have buyouts but they could move and all of a sudden coach Sabin lost his leverage yes because he was used to being the king of his kingdom and maybe as you say the king of of a conference which was the conference college football of college football confence he was used to being a tyrant a a a ruler of rulers a despot where where he it was his way or the highway and you you did it the way he taught it and coached it for years and years right if Nick said once upon a time there was a they they um they allowed this was several years ago they allowed other colleges yeah in the summertime to hold camps in other cities that colleges playing Michigan would hold a camp Michigan would hold a camp in Alabama y once Nick started screaming and holler they cut that rule out yeah that's the control I'm talking about yeah it was you know they would go on the road and go to other cities and hold football camps in the summertime to get a chance to look at the recruits Alabama would lose some recruits to Michigan yeah Nick didn't like that he did not like that and he couldn't take the the new landscape of college football and it's now the Wild Wild West out there and he has little to no control because if I go raise 12 million for my nil for my university for my Collective well so Kim Baylor yeah they might not raise 12 but they got nine that's close enough that is correct and so that's a problem I do want to remind everybody it wasn't like this was a disastrous year for Alabama because they were in the final four were they in the final four they were to the final play yes they were one play away from winning the national championship cuz I'm pretty sure they would have beaten Washington in the championship game right okay so it's Fourth and goal from the three yard line and they they change the play two or three times and Jaylen milroe winds up just trying to bolt it right up the middle and he gets stopped after a yard and it came that close so you were two yards away from yet another National Championship right yeah okay so don't don't underestimate how close they were under these conditions but it just wore him out because he's not Nick sabbin anymore but here's the point next year some coach is going to win the National Championship under the new way the new rules right so whatever whoever coach that I hope it's s he just won a national title in the new rules a couple years ago that's what I'm saying but not like this year this year it went completely wild crazy where transfers the portal was full where to your point these kids are transferring multiple times like oh you I'll try it again I'll try over here I'll try over here but usually when you transfer when you're transferring you're just you're okay you're not you're not I don't know some of those quarterbacks who move that some of them quarterbacks won't see Sunday okay yeah there's not there's not a guy that transfers that is a top prospect for the National Football League that trans just because he's not getting playing time that's that's you transfer when you don't play and you're not getting the playing but like Bo Knicks I I think he's going to play on Sunday for somebody yeah but Bo Nicks transferred because the whole situation that was happening at arburn yeah in new coaches and in and out that's why he transferred okay guys that are starting Caleb Williams transferred because his coach left yeah and so I don't want to sit here with with uh not linkoln was a new coach uh uh um at Oklahoma oh uh Brent Brent vanal venal I don't want to play for him so I'm transferring to go with the guy that recruited me so I can be in the same system and I can win the Heisman I can be a top three pick well like Dyan Gabriel he's I I I think he's a little better than Tua that's what I thought yeah but he was never going to beat out Caleb if Caleb was still at Oklahoma but now he's had a great year at Oklahoma and they beat Texas now he went to Oregon yeah but he but but the chances are he's not going to be a top pick probably not so if he can cash in if he can get more money at Oregon than he can at his rookie contract you take that deal because remember we're talking about a quarterback that's nice but he ain't the top quarterback you know he's a middle round type guy middle round type pick yeah those numbers aren't $35 million those numbers are $800 $900,000 in b salary so it's a totally different situation what he got to go up to Phil Knight's program it doesn't matter it doesn't matter he got enough doesn't matter but I think he got a lot he got enough yeah to make him leave and you should leave if that's the case yeah okay so for years and years 20 years 30 years I campaigned for college players to be paid like free market economy just what whatever they're worth whatever the boosters are willing to to Shell just do it you know that's what it should be but now it's gone so crazy that to coach sabin's point I do think there's going to have to be some modification there's going to they talk about the guard rails they need to put in they're going to have to come up with ways to sign contracts because you're going to have to commit where okay if you're going to move up to Oregon you got to do it for X number of years or if you're going to sign out of high school you you need to go ahead and sign your n deal for the next three years that's okay yeah because it protect both sides a little and the coaches shouldn't have shouldn't be able to leave for another job either yeah they shouldn't be able to leave for another job and if you leave got big buyouts but yeah that doesn't mean anything because the school makes so much money they'll write the check yeah they just will Texas A&M just paid uh uh the coach that got fired Jimbo Jimbo they just paid Jimbo a handsome Ransom the lead because they can just write the check and go get the money from you skip the oil guy and he'll just say okay let me call my buddy Danny Danny do you want in on this we want to get rid of Jimbo how much you got in I got five what do you got well I'll put in three let's call Karen what does Karen have well you know her husband just passed away I think she'll do something those are those conversations yeah so it's got to be police to certain way but the kids and the student athletes that are all Sports women's sports included the sports that does not make money included all of them should get benefit and make money it shouldn't just be football and basketball should be baseball should be lacrosse it should be soccer should be diving swimming uh uh fencing whatever your sport is at that University they should benefit from nil or some contract that gets money out of it yeah they absolutely should I wonder if come next Fall coach Sabin will start missing it as in well it wasn't that bad you know like like we we were just one play away from winning it off right maybe most coaches take a time off yeah and it's very rare that you see a bill cow who had success never go back into it most coaches TV most coaches though they they the stress level they want to Urban Meyer he came to television he said I got to get back in this he went tried it and he's back in TV again you never know it dude might find it getting the itch again they all do when they're because they're courted people want to talk to him they want to see if they could still get something left in the tank all right now back to coach sabin's first point which was the whole idea of we were showing our ass after we lost that he didn't think they lost with class when I first saw the headline on that I thought he was going to be upset that they didn't look like they cared after they lost but at least if you're throwing your helmet you care after a loss I don't have a problem with that yeah I don't I don't know what happened in the locker room I wasn't there I don't know what he mean by that but I could take from what he said and try to dissect it the lack of respect for him gu because guess why they don't fear him anymore like you can't do anything to me I'll leave on your ass so now three five five years ago they didn't do that yeah because they feared if I did that they no tell him what he might do to me now I can tell you to go fly a kite cuz I'm out I'm putting my name in the portal and you got to replace seriously you got to replace me we're talking about the N now a lack of respect okay the NFL you're saying is tur in the same situation it it it is to a it is to a degree but it kind of starts from college though skip if you think about it for many years in college football across the board you had badasses you had uh uh uh Catholics versus the criminals you had all the the the the edgy type players and stuff you did well it's not like that anymore it's a country making a lot of money you're making money all the facilities look like this it's just it's a different feeli you don't have the edgy teams anymore think about it all the teams used to be like all the good teams yeah was edgy they were they now everything is is nice yeah it's just chill you know I do think there's no there's no hard okay there's no hard to it because if I was when I came into college football starving to death trying to figure out where my next meal was going to come from for me my brothers my sisters my family who are all older so it was a certain thirst that came with that Michael tell you Michael will tell you it was a certain thirst that came with coming out of South South Florida yeah it's not like that now because if I go to college I got I get a half a buck already I get a half a million dollars I get two million I get a million n i so I can chill I don't have to 24 hours 7 days a week Grind open up the gym for me at 5:00 a.m. in the morning I don't have to do that anymore it just felt like this year's Michigan in the offensive and defensive line I think they had some badasses again are they getting paid we sure but you you can get paid and still be a badass yeah but it's not the same across the board you get maybe one team yeah maybe one maybe two players here and there instead of a whole slew of guys that felt a certain way M you know think about the think about some of them SC teams that won national titles whether it was under Peete Jr or Rich McKay think about some of the Miami Hurricane teams that was winning national championships getting off the buses and Army fatigues and stuff their minds was different or if we can go back another generation there were some Notre Dame teams that were yeah Notre Dame teams it was just it was just a different yeah situation yeah okay not Vandy if y'all notice we didn't mention that well you want to talk baseball nope you don't thank you we got a lot of naal champion baseball oh are you crazy that's agent that's before I was born that's all you talk about before you were born stop thanks for watching Undisputed fans do you want more highlights from
