[Music] what's going on everybody it's frito here for your overwatch with season 30 only days away and enough play time on the new patch i'm gonna go through the entire hero roster and give you my ranking and tips to adapt to the new meta buffs to doomfist genji moira hogg and soldier have settled in giving them all a boost in performance but one hero in particular is a surprising standout that solves a lot of match up problems we'll discuss that and much more but first a message from today's video sponsor manscaped back again supporting us and supporting our vips fellas i understand i've been there manscaping with the wrong equipment can feel like putting your family jewels right down the garbage disposal but all that changed for me when i became a manscape customer myself a few years ago and now i can't stop talking about him mostly thanks to the star of the show the lawn mower 4.0 to trim your grass with the best the 4.0 is a masterpiece of a design and the key feature is the white skin safe technology that protects you from the blade when shaving near your sensitive areas even got a cool light on it on top and i always like to show this every time i know i'm sure it gets boring at this point but it's difficult to hurt yourself with this thing that's what makes it so great but with the performance 4.0 package you get the rest of this stuff too i haven't told you about this yet this is the shed feels good water resistant and is really big is gonna fit everything you need manscape boxer briefs and of course ball toner and ball deodorant you could be fresh all over to make the deal even sweeter the performance package comes with the weed whacker now too and i fall in love with this thing which makes the obnoxious nose and ear hairs a breeze to get rid of it's all really easy makes you feel better about yourself and when it comes to manscaping i mean think about it how good do you feel after a haircut the rest of you can feel that good too pick one of these up today you want to click the link in the description to head on over to manscape.com and use our promo code overwatch 20 at checkout to get 20 off your entire order and free shipping start manscaping today first a quick recap of the newest patch doomfist's cooldowns regen during his ultimate genji loses some blade damage for a slight shuriken damage boost moira's self-heal is improved roadhog just like in overwatch 2 gives less ultimate to his enemies when they shoot him wrecking ball no longer can roll back immediately out of spawn after he gets eliminated note you can still do this at the start of the game just not when you respawn or after the doors open and his minds no longer stick to walls they will fall to gravity like you might expect them to but for me the sleeper in all these picks is the soldier buff who does lose five healing per second on his refreshment station but he gains his 20 damage shots back this is a glorious version of soldier that we've never seen before because back when he used to have 20 damage a shot he had bloom which limited the effective range you could use him at because if you shot too long you'd bloom out to like the size of a roadhog meaning that it was very skillful to tap shoot at range in order to confirm a ranged target but now that you have pinpoint accurate control soldier has become the most effective or at the very least stable range damage dealer in the game and i don't want you guys to panic at this tier list because the game isn't balanced badly enough for anything to be a must pick or anything like that but it's more so the meta state that puts soldier where he stands here your skill on a hero is always going to be more important overall but soldier has landed himself in quite a easy skill to reward ratio in my opinion so it's better to think of soldier as winning by default not for his strengths but let's start to count how many good match up soldier has there's a number of duels that you simply cannot contest at range reliably anymore on other characters that you might have expected to just a few patches ago as an example pharah and echo playing at range saw a significant boost in their performance after the previous hit scan patch especially if they have a healer with them the balance has skewed in their favor over every other hitscan bar soldier who also will want a mercy attached to him to duel a far mercy on the other side but he's going to be the easiest long-range option to contest those two but what's even more interesting to me that soldier also as well feels quite a bit easier up against the other hit scans that traditionally were very strong at medium and longer ranges it's kind of the culmination of a lot of nerfs and changes all at once where widow has 175 health and ash's range is reigned in and mccree's ranges nothing which means against all of them i think soldier at range is an easy choice in comparison widow feels like she has one second to hit a head shot or she just dies whereas soldier has easier aim and not only should have an easier time battling them more importantly pressures the entirety of the enemy team more reliably let me give an example most of the average player's ranked games consist of reinzaria so sometimes it can feel like the games can be oversimplified to whose tanks take more damage well if the enemy have a soldier pressing his angles and you're playing say a mccree you will constantly be at a tank pressure disadvantage at range because not only will the mccree struggle to kill the soldier at range he can't poke down your tanks nearly as much as he can now of course when it gets in close range mccree's got the stun mccree's got fan the hammer mccree's got more health he has a lot of advantages too and i'll get to mccree a little bit more but i think overall when you start to add up all the different match-ups constantly shooting at anything as soldier especially in ranked where players don't regroup fully or really respect strict like do not cross redline engagement zones like when there's things out to fight that you can keep fighting soldier has more uptime potential and the other picks require a little bit more synergy with your team to regroup properly to keep them effective because there's some ranges where mccree and ash just basically don't do any damage they need the engagement to be set within their range whereas soldier with his legs as well as all of his other buffs from the ears can keep playing up tempo on them like those buffs are starting to add up six second helix no range fall off on his ultimate no bloom on his weapon 30 rounds in the magazine that he retains from back when he did less damage i think if anything some of those uptime buffs probably should go if he's going to have some comparable impact but we'll see what blizzard goes about it and if the community agrees with me that he's a little overtuned now but moving on let's think about soldiers counters how are they doing of course there is a lot of options to directly go at the soldier but i just think picking them sets up for easier counters on your side tanky dive heroes like wrecking ball doomfist and reaper are favored if they close the distance quickly but they have their own weaknesses and counterpicks genji probably is the most reliable one but i think he just takes more skill to play himself and coordinate with his team to set up as opposed to soldier even funnily enough i'd say a character like tracer who used to bully soldier mostly feels like a bigger threat to me than even a mccree cause remember soldier has pinpoint accurate damage and now 20 damage shots helix seems to be always available so he's got a lot of options in the tracer duel even so many of you probably like me look at this tier list and think it's outrageous that soldier somehow at the top but given all those factors the legs just kind of defaults himself to that spot mainly because there are no s to your picks so a reliable one goes a long way also as well everything takes skill to execute anyway so your results are always going to vary but try to move this along a little bit in order not to make the video incredibly long gonna try to group together other parts of the tier list generalizing some points in the beats here i have mccree falling and sombra rising i spoke to my buddy svb the other day and he does not agree with either of these playsigs he thinks mccree is far too low and somber too high which i definitely can see and i know his arguments for but here's my reasoning i think once players learn what i'm explaining about ranged pressure and how useless mccree is as soon as you get any kind of ranged angle on him and his team you're gonna catch on pretty quick so here's a scenario for you let's say you're up against a ryan mccree and you have soldier and orisa so many moments in that match-up you're gonna feel like you just do nothing on the ryan mccree side as long as the map permits it of course i think it's best to think about how mccree's been re-situated with the hierarchy here to work more like a pistol does in most other shooter games which is to say he doesn't have any range so he's got fan the hammer and good medium range once you can get there and maybe echo flies close enough to you for you to do effective damage but a lot of times there's a lot of targets you expect to be able to kill from previous patches that you just won't anymore especially when a mercy's on it but if you're only going for roll stun fan and high noon and you don't have to worry about your left click at all well then maybe mccree goes up a tier but those are the considerations for it at least as for sombra oh sombra quite possibly the most misunderstood hero in the history of overwatch but don't you worry guys i have a new guide coming out very soon that will dispel many of the common sombra mistakes and boost your game sense on her considerably it's in the works but i admit our community is disproportionately weak on the character a lot of confusion and what she should be doing you see a lot of summers on like metal gear solid stealth missions not really applying any pressure or disables or working with the team so very often is she just a nothing pick on your team but if you learn how to play her i think you're gonna find that due to the lack of hit scan pressure at range you don't necessarily miss having ranged pressure from that pick so the game either is like further out of sombra's range or closer to it either or so if it feels like you can flank their range that can work or sombra's really good at mixing it up with a lot of mobility battles as like the winston diva are coming in or maybe a doomfist or a tracer sombra at the right position can get the key disable that can rob the punching power of those types of comps so i take her out of the gutter positions and put her as a pretty confident counterpick i think once you start to learn her but you have to wait for the upcoming guide for more details on that moving on let's quickly round out the rest of the dps a-tier has hanzo well i think it's really nasty at range when you consider range is important now and recon arrows low cooldown offers a huge advantage he's not as applicable and is more easily countered than soldier but his peak output is among the highest in the role at least for the amount of skill that's required to do it i think remembering this isn't a gm pro tier list it's for like the average player what you're gonna find to reliably work for you assuming you have a decent understanding of the hero otherwise the rest of the list in a tier is going to be based on your own skill and the matchup you're in echo tracer reaper pharah genji i think you can swap them around in order but they have quite a few options against the common comps that get run genji's damage rework is a bit interesting he's almost more viable based on the rest of the game and less so the changes to him directly the new damage is definitely noticeable and i'd say his alt fire feels particularly better and a quick tip for you genji players if you want to hit more shurikens with his fan alternate fire offset your aim on the target so that two of the three horizontal fan of projectiles hit as opposed to just aiming directly at the target where only one in the center might hit you have a little bit more leeway with the size of the hitbox to aim a little bit off to the left or right so two of the three hit reliably with the thicker hitbox so especially with that technique the damage increase seems to find the relevant break points for you to more confidently assassinate key targets as for the blade nerf you'll feel like you absolutely need a damage boost in most situations that have any chance to get any use out of it or else neutral fight healing can counter most if not all of it so be careful of that worse yet i feel like it's even harder to farm blade based on the meta state despite having more damage which you would think would mean he would farm it faster but due to things like roadhog's overwatch 2 style buff where you can't really effectively farm him to gain much ult at all remember it's 25 total less from shooting roadhog then on top of that he has a damage resistance when he's taking a breather so you effectively get like no ult off him it feels like at least not a significant amount overall with that being the case i think often times you might feel it better to try to go for solo blades in a hectic fight rather than the classic full set team engage nanoblade because the big setups typically give the enemy enough time to stack their own ults while you try to sync up your build of blade with your nano which gives them a chance to respond i think it's a little bit better if you do have an ana to just keep laying the nano into the tank so they can keep going aggressive as your mid fight had been buffed anyway right so you're not as weak in the mid fight without nano blade so focus a bit more on that and look for those opportunities for smaller blades that are clutch as opposed to the big team fight ones i think i can't remember if we've seen the league on this patch or not but it felt like that was sort of happening anyway because especially since nano builds so much faster than blade you at least want to give your first nano to your tank rather than wait for genji to build up a whole blade because they'll have all their ults by then if it's convenient go for the combo into the beats here now let's remember the new patch rule set range and spam heroes are on the rise so a lot of these low ground denial characters like may junk torb can't really contest the angles or the literal air in the sky that the top picks have so they'll be limited in their applicability the doomfist buffs functionally did nothing as far as i'm concerned his interactions are all the same i'd say all these heroes are still good but i just think have counters that would make you feel like you should swap off them rather than commit to the pick on the top of beats here ashen mccree may be undervalued here i just worn caution to not expect these picks to be worth the effort or skill that it takes to play them if you're already a specialist at these heroes and know how to maximize their use you'll be fine but if you're like jumping in to play dps again you're gonna find soldier easier i think that principle gets even worse when we go down to sea tier where widow finds herself so often i feel as widow you have one second to get one headshot off or you die and i just don't see it worth the risk most times unless you're a top tier player especially as you're gonna get so much free value just spamming away with soldier 30 bullets at 20 damage a shot with a better ultimate at least for confirming kills and gm it'll work differently but even on maps like havana which should be the best widow map it doesn't feel to me like you must have a widow to succeed which means the whole hitscan specialist argument goes double for widowmaker symmetra and bastion under perfect circumstances can work but remember when characters like pharah are good if you're up against a similar bastion you can just get majorly vertical or even go on big flanks against them playing any angle you like and spam down on them outside of their effective range so likely you won't see the same value out of them as you did in previous metas where it was more hit scan dominated with flex dps in the game again they're a little questionable but next up let's take a look at the tanks poke poke poke i'm putting orisa as top of the list because she will be the most reliable tank in the variety of matchups you'll find just yesterday we uploaded an arisa guide that will jump start you into playing the character properly so i won't elaborate here too much you should go watch that video to get the fundamentals to catch you up but the short answer is she has range damage fortify and a sick ult all those things convert fights on many sections of many maps if you position properly otherwise we have zarya second on the list because any engaged type tank hero almost needs azaria to have a chance to survive against the focus fire and especially stuns if you've got anything engaging in on a stun you need azaria to have a chance because otherwise the stun locks are going to come through and you won't be able to move your character until overwatch 2. zarya is almost always a nasty ranked hero as she's easy to pair with and can largely play for her own value being a bit selfish to retain charge and deathmatch her way to victory however very important i have diva next who if you haven't learned how to play as a tank before i think now you definitely need to pick up because there's so many compositional matchups that your team may just flat out lose if you don't have a good one let me paint this scenario for you a pure hypothetical the enemy has a flanker like tracer or reaper just appears in your back line your teammates playing ana or brig characters that have options to damage or disable these flanker threats but let's just say in theory they never land in ability and die repeatedly to these heroes as a tank you have two options you can either go roadhog and never miss a hook to guarantee that you kill them before they kill your team or you can play diva who's way easier and with just a bit of awareness keeps some of these backliner heroes alive and really it's the only option you have like diva is the last hanky type character in the game she's balanced with her offense too but most other tank picks are skewed towards just offense with a bit of tanking steve has got the most defense so whether it's those mid-fight flanks focus fire from the enemy or even catching ultimates diva is going to be your best bet for defending against things that is going to eliminate your team and on top of that you got flyer heroes like echo bombs or damage boosted fara rockets overhead soldier on and off angle you need to react to diva is going to solve a lot of these problems and at least slow down the rate your team gets instantly wiped in these scenarios remembering you as a tank don't do much if your heels die anyway remember soldier is really effective now so if you play rhine zarya and he's just always getting an angle on you well you're not really going to be able to have the gameplay you're looking for put up your bubble he stops shooting it goes down and then he has 30 bullets and a helix rocket to work you down with so zarya is gonna have a bad time against soldier however against a lot of things working up to her charge and how much damage she can do zarya will win you more games with her offense but lacking a diva is gonna lose you a lot of games too so choose accordingly remember as well there are certain scenarios in overwatch where having offense mostly is just fine like if you have a respawn advantage as long as you keep trading out you'll eventually trade up gain map control and cap let's say point a of king's row but as you start to get to point b of king's row where you're at a massive spawn disadvantages the attack sometimes it can be tough to allow the enemy to get some trade frags on you so you need to play to survive for your team in peel rather than just go for attacking characters like my favorite example is when players pick zenyatta on anubis b walking through tight narrow chokes with all sorts of little flanks and high grounds that things can pop out to insta kill him if you don't have a way to stop that from happening well you're probably just gonna lose because you need that character to survive on your team when you get into position to have a chance to beat out the respawn advantage so adjust accordingly to that sigma and roadhog upon reflection maybe i should have put hogg one spot higher but the way i feel is sigma has a higher skill ceiling so he can potentially do more for the team hog seems easier at most ranks though because he can play for himself and is a little bit more forgiving whereas sigma you have to position a lot more carefully and manage his shield and attacks and they're a little bit more wonky to use as opposed to roadhog is a bit more straightforward but either way both of these characters functionally do similar jobs which is why playing them together can be decent they just sort of roam around and attempt to jockey for shooter angles if you're struggling up against the roadhog i suggest you check out our anna mastery guide which has an entire section on how to handle that match-up anna's your best bet to punish roadhog as long as you time her abilities appropriately and land them as for the rest of the tanks listen it's a tough time out there for ryan so don't assume that's gonna solve many problems you can't really expect them to do much because remember how many mobile dps threats are there out there that are gonna legs themselves into an off angle or fly or flank or whatever you're gonna often find nothing to fight if it's surrounding you if the circumstances are perfect for reinhardt he's okay but not often required i'd say and you'll want to be sure to have the right supporting cast to even get reinhardt to function especially up against some of these more fps minded picks that are gonna pick your deathball apart wrecking ball looks criminally undervalued on this list but i think unless you're really strong on the hero most ranks have the problem of either you the player not doing enough or your team not knowing how to play around it is it possible to dodge and weave through a recess setup to disrupt them yes but it takes teamwork and comms more importantly which isn't always there to make sure that you're not going in out of sync and not taking a necessary poke from the bunker it has a high teamwork degree of difficulty to execute if you do you'll have a good time but if you don't well the arisa comp sort of just stands vaguely shooting 150 shots at your team building up alts and poking you down and well it can be really punishing to play against if you don't execute appropriately so i don't advise you do that unless you're a ball specialist the dive style feels a bit win more for me where if you out-position the enemy with it you'll have the tools to command the fight but if all things are equal it can be pretty rough last up is winston who is going to be similar to all the downsides of wrecking ball but it's typically a bit easier to play around but note he must be in sync with not only an off tank zarya or diva but also his ana's line of sight and i think those three picks are key to have on your team in those two slots and i think two of those three picks are going to be required for you to feel like he's playable but once you do work with those teammates then winston actually can tank on the front line absorbing a lot of aggro and making space through soft engages don't fully go in until you have nano just sort of work your way in slowly gaining a bit more ground each jump for your team and then when you have nano you can go deep to confirm kills that's the way it works but if either you don't have two of those three picks or you're not really getting the coordination around it to work you may want to avoid the monkey last section of the tier list is the support heroes boom mercy number one why is that well there's a long list of dps picks that either require mercy's help flat out to function but also the style of the game that we're playing right now really rewards reliable healing in many circumstances a quick attack might hit a teammate out of nowhere and quickly attaching a beam is required whereas a single whiff as anna might mean your teammate dies and probably the rest of your team after that i know it feels like you can't carry on a mercy pick but i beg to differ focus on maximizing your uptime and surviving in hectic fights to find an edge somewhere on the fringes of the battle to swing a match up or to sneak back in for a res doing that especially when the enemy don't have a mercy does carry in the current meta the whole dps meta swings entirely with that mercy modifier to amplify either the range damage or to reach certain key break points otherwise you can pick brig to deflect flankers and burrow in a position on corners just keep in mind that she's weak to spam dps but my assumption is you won't play her into pharah but also avoid her up against picks like soldier or orisa it's just the rest of the game that wants to engage in on you that you strong at and really strong at to that degree otherwise bap will work if you're crazy enough to be picking rush comp but it also works in poke either way though you want to try to get your team to huddle together around your area of effect healing so that you can maximize the farm rate of your ultimate i find often players don't do this and that looks a lot weaker when that's the case if you spread out too much well then you need directional healing like anna or zen that can be applied at range but bap needs most of the team to huddle together a good way to play around this is to tell your team where your healing is going like stack on our rhine for heals and better yet tell them what positions you plan to use your immortality field around corners so they can use it to even survive against ultimates zenyatta is always a greedy character however you might find him required sometimes in order to have enough big defensive ult survivability against big old combos on certain sections of maps or have enough damage if your goal is to burst down tanks or the ranged threats you might struggle to reach the break points without them anna unfortunately i just can't keep an aids here because unless the matchup is good enough you'll likely have to play too defensive and if you have to do that there's just better picks remember if you've seen the anna mastery guide you'll know that anna is now one of the most offensive supports in the game so don't underestimate her range threat especially against flyers i mean with the scope she's actually the best ranged dps next to widow and i mean she heals herself so when it comes to sniping a pharah or echo out of the sky anna's just better than most of the range hit scan which is a weird world to be in but keep that in mind also she does have carry impact with her abilities but you have to set it up and i think more often than not that's going to put you at risk and you'll want to convert your carry out of other picks in the game that are easier and less exploitable lucio moira down in seats here for the simple reason well if batiste struggles to keep teammates in his area of effect it's even harder on these two at least bap can dps for himself from range if that's not the case lucio and moira require good movement synergy to move in lockstep with their team in order for their play style to work i think they're viable picks it's just rare and harder to get to work as compared to the other styles because you need your swarm comp type characters to have the same pathing and focus fire targeting to either go run over the biggest threat or the most out of position character and it's often disputed among the team which one is the better target call at any given time most times in my experience what happens is they just target whatever's the first thing in front like a tank and then the enemy have a carry ability on some angle that you would have had to go run at immediately in order to counter and if you don't do that it just destroys immediately i don't really rate the community's knowledge of how to play that comp effectively so you're gonna have a hard time running it with randoms i think though i will say moira's ult is outrageous and lucio's speed can make a lot of characters in the game pretty good if you work it out but nothing really needs it in the meta right now but with all that we've concluded our season 30 ranked tier list we're still looking for losing to pharah replay codes you can submit those in the description and while you're there go and click on that manscape link and use code overwatch 20 at checkout to get 20 off your entire order and free shipping thanks for
