what's up guys paul here with stream geeks and in this video we're going to once again talk about how to connect obs and zoom because two new things have happened one obs has integrated a new virtual webcam output for both mac and pc users and two the community has come up with a brand new audio routing system which is going to make this so much easier and more powerful so let's dig into it in this video [Music] so why am i so excited about these new integrations it makes connecting obs and zoom so much easier and i want to start with the why why is it so awesome to connect obs and zoom well first of all if you're sending your obs video into zoom you can show lower thirds you can show video clips you can show virtual reality 360 web pages you can show ip cameras you can show ndi cameras you can do so much with obs so just bringing in the video in to zoom allows you to show countdown timers all kinds of great stuff but why go as far as doing the video or the audio side of things many people might not need to bring audio from obs to zoom because they just use their microphone and their headphones with zoom and they're all good but i think bringing audio first into obs and then virtually sending it to zoom opens up so many great possibilities we can send sound boards right with sound effects funny sound effects into our meetings we can enhance our audio with compressors and voice enhancement plug-ins and tools we can send audio music clips we can send background music there's the possibilities really are limitless just to the limit of your creativity so today we're going to look at the easy way to connect obs and zoom and then possibly more important but the complete way to connect obs and zoom is now so much easier with the new virtual webcam and the new audio monitoring plugin so just be aware you know you could do this with zoom you could do this with blue jeans microsoft teams cisco webex and again you can capture all this with vmix wirecast obs or xsplit we're going to focus on obs because that's the one that i know most of you guys are using so high level i put this little thing together it's still exactly the same as it's always been we're going to take our virtual camera out of obs and that's going to be our webcam input in zoom we are going to take our microphone input in zoom and that's going to be the audio output of obs and the output of zoom the speaker output is going to be a microphone input into obs there will be no feedback loop and i'm going to have a complete troubleshooting guide video to follow this because i know some people have been having issues with this now if you're a presenter and you're on camera like i am a lot of times you may need to have an in-ear monitoring system so a lot of churches a lot of pastors like to be able to hear the folks in zoom and they're not tethered to headphones or a speakerphone or chat pod so a lot of times we like to take the audio output and split it into a pair of in-ear monitors if you're kind of on the go like i am a lot of times so let me go ahead into this i'm going to start with the easy stuff first and i'm going to do a live demo right here where you can see everything in obs has been connected to this zoom meeting the easy part is the video so i'm going to look at this with you guys step by step and we're going to do this together so that you can see every piece of it i think in about 10 minutes we'll see how long it actually takes but the first thing is very simple which is the ability to start and stop this virtual camera button here when i stop the virtual camera and zoom here you can see that you just see the obs logo when i start the virtual camera everything is coming into zoom properly so how is that working well essentially if we look at the bottom part of the zoom window where we have the camera selection options i have a lot of camera selection options but in here we just select obs camera and essentially once you've done that and we'll actually see i have the obs virtual camera selected here then anything coming from obs will change so i'll just go ahead and zoom so if we change there boom it has changed what we're outputting anything we do in obs is now captured inside of zoom now the audio side of things is the more difficult part so i mentioned that there's a new plug-in for obs called audio monitor it's at 0.3.4 and once you install this plug-in you have the ability to route audio anywhere you would like now in order to do that we do need to go to virtual audio cables and this is for windows if you need these for mac you can see there's a virtual audio cable for a mac here and a virtual audio cable for windows i'm going to assume that you know how to install those you can actually get away with the free one and just have one cable or the a and b cable they do allow you to donate you make a donation and you can get this for mac or for p c so let's show how that works so first of all i've got two virtual audio cables installed if you want to follow along exactly with me here i have cable a as my microphone and cable b as my speaker so what that means is anything we're sending to virtual audio cable a from obs will show up as an audio source inside of zoom and then anything that's coming from zoom basically the people we're video conferencing with will be able to use cable b as an audio input inside of obs that way we have full audio and video going back and forth between obs again why are we doing this well on the audio side of things we might want to record the entire session in hd we might want to live stream it to youtube and facebook we might want to enhance the audio quality of our far end participants with compression noise suppression all the things we can do inside of obs so let's start by looking at the audio so here we see this big team audio meeting it's an mp4 if we go into filters you will see that i already have selected the audio monitoring filter and so you just go in here you hit the plus button you choose audio monitor and i'm gonna i'm going to get rid of that because i don't need it in my earphones i only need one of those but you can see here that we can select cable a so this allows us to select every single audio in obs whether it's a video whether it's a microphone whether it's a website even if you could even bring in like a sound board if you've ever seen those where you can click different sounds and import them into your zoom call you just need to go into the filters of that audio in your audio meter and just choose to send it to cable a because cable a is our microphone in zoom so everyone will be able to hear what's coming from obs into zoom that is how easy it is that's why i wanted to make a whole new video because it's super easy and powerful anything you want to send audio wise to zoom you just add this audio monitoring filter and collect and click and select cable a now how do we get the audio from zoom back in to obs that's super simple in settings we are going to go to audio and you can see here i have just chosen my desktop audio to be cable b so once cable b is in there that is my audio my incoming audio from zoom and you can see the way to test this by the way is you can actually go to audio settings inside of zoom you can hit test speaker and you can see that desktop audio coming in you might not be able to hear it the way i have the audio routed for this video but you can clearly see that the audio is coming in to obs so that is almost it the last thing we need to do is we need to capture the video from from zoom and bring that in to obs if you're doing what i'm showing here and actually capturing like the guests for example and to do that you simply just need to do either a window capture or a desktop capture display capture of the video wow i think we actually did it guys that there's it's just so much better now that there is the audio monitoring plug-in and the virtual camera plug-in i wanted to make a new video i wrote a three-page documentation you can read on our blog i wanted to mention please subscribe to our youtube channel for putting a lot of time and effort into this you can always unsubscribe later but we have lots of great stuff coming out and then following up this video i am gonna have troubleshooting so i've got five major issues that i know you guys have been having in the comments and i'm gonna do the troubleshooting follow-up video so that if any of this didn't work for anyone the common things to look up and that's it so please hit that subscribe button it really means a lot to us let us know what you think in the comments below and we did that in just a little bit over 10 minutes i hope that was helpful bye guys
