tomorrow is drew talk's birthday and happy birthday to me with a brand new image rocking the epic noir theme from rick dangerous and yeah um this one is is special and i'm going to tell you why this is not just another slap dash another contender in the 400 512 gigabytes space you know for those of you haven't seen his previous builds are really cool um some of you gonna like it some of you might not actually like it but i'll tell you why some people like it and the reason being is all these games are hand selected the dude spends hours just hand sorting through these systems he says he's read all the magazines growing up and read all the you know reviews and and why these games were special and the developers at the time and so the cool thing about this is if i know that if i just pick a random game i just go and i pick like a random letter and a random game that i will find something worth playing that the game won't just be complete utter garbage and it's everything it's international titles it's everything he he specially programmed this theme so all these little custom collections he hand selected putting them in the correct places he says his arcade set every arcade game is working perfectly to your controls um uh it's just it's just really if you want somebody's take on retro games this is the image for you right this is not the throw every single rom possible and so some people aren't going to like that some people want to have everything but to me this image is so cool because i know that if i click on sega cd the sega cd games here are all going to be you know we're checking out and i can tell you right now that yeah a lot of them are and so this i'm going to call this a 400 gigabyte it's really pushing the 256 it's like right around 270 gigabytes but so this 400 gigabyte image for the raspberry pi 4 let's go ahead and jump in and check it out so on first boot you do get that cool little intro video it does come pre-installed with epic noir and it kind of has his own little if you look here epic noir rick d it's his kind of custom with his collections although he's using the epic noir bass theme he also mentioned the omega drive and for those of you haven't seen this is a new theme it's actually not too long too old it's been recently released we'll check that out later in the video but uh he mentioned it takes a little longer to exit games on it and and re come in but you know as far as navigating the menu and stuff it works really well but it's still on to showcase that as the two primary themes so again kind of going along with what i said in the beginning of this video everything was very purpose-built he didn't just install everything that was possible or like his top 10 themes he really left it too i like these two themes and look at this let's just jump into um you know amiga for a second look how clean this is a really nice piece of artwork a very basic description and then in the lower right hand corner you got the genre the players and the ratings so i mean let me just run around let me just go fast right look at how smooth this is this should not be this smooth i feel like we're on a pc right now although that i mean you can argue that the raspberry pi is a single board computer but i'm saying this looks like you know an intel i5 emulation front end at this point or better so as far as all games like i said it's not everything it's only 2596 games so 2600 games the other thing that's kind of weird about it is that it's right at the it's like 270 gigabytes so you really need a 400 gigabyte sd card which is actually what i recommend because then for those of you out there you can add some additional cd games but the other thing being a storage is so cheap right now i don't think it's that big of a deal personally but back in the day you know jumping from a 256 to a 400 gigabyte used to be quite a big price jump so for those reasons i don't really mind too much so let's go ahead and get started and uh let's get started with the first letter which is amiga you got 230 games amiga had some really great titles some of the titles you loved today started one of their first or second you know releases was on the amiga so to see you know these games like dune and there's just so many really good original titles on here that play really well lemmings lemmings 2 myth you know you even see some publishers that aren't even around anymore or am i thinking the commodore but tur can awesome game unreal wow amstrad 30 games so again just some of these favorites arcade 250 and look each one has its own video snap so when you go in you get that nice video snap and let's just go through this arcade set really quick because it's only 250 games so you know it's not going to be every single game frogger galaga so all your classic all your arcade classics going to be on here hook mario bros moroccan one two and three i have to say like look at this he literally none of these say like us next to it none of these say and you know a lot of times people don't rename their files here and look at this he he's so clean like i feel like it's you know like this was like a pandora's box build or something like that where you know you can tell that some things you know they're in the ultimate model combat three as well so one two three and ultimate wonder boy x-men four player game arcade game awesome game right here and these do have the bezel project installed so those do have bezels as well atari 2600 70 games pretty standard 7 800 you got 20 games do you have the atari 800 installed nice 30 games target links for those that like portable systems 25 games a thomas wave 10 games okay so demolish fist dolphin blue fist of the north guilty gears neo geo battle coliseum and then rumble fish one and two and again we're on the raspberry pi 4 here so it can run those games just far find commodore 130 dreamcast wow 160 dreamcast games let's check this out and i believe he has most of them running on redream with redream i'll show you this in a little bit you're probably going to want to set your controls and he even mentioned this and it's really easy to do in redream i'll see what the hotkey is to get to the menu it might be like r3 or l3 or it might be escape on your keyboard if that's the easiest way to do it and then binding the keys is super easy there's a there's a user interface there you don't need to go into any kind of command line or anything like that which you do with some of the older dreamcast emulators so yeah loving that set nice famicom 10 games so again just a couple games like i like this because if you never if you didn't grow up on these games you know he went out and he got the ones that you know are worth checking out game boy advance most images have a thousand games right here there's no way anybody's playing all 1 000 game boy advance games so he just kind of picked the best of the best the other thing i'm noticing here is that's pretty cool that i don't know if he did this but he made sure they're all box art what i notice a lot of other images do that they're kind of you know lacks is they don't keep this constant theme like look the game boy logo is always on the left here now i know if you saw if you went back a few there were some of these that were some sideways some straight so yes he's not perfect but for game boy advance it's pretty cool that they're all like that and i imagine it's a us thing it's hard to get you know there's all again with all the correct labels all the box art 25 some people like that right all line looking good okay second master system 60 games really nice and again i'm highlighting what i like about this image i'll definitely give you some pros and cons at the end but so far i like that the names are like i said are they correct you would not believe how many images i see where it's just like blah like they just copied over the file names and called it a day um you know i feel like the artwork here has a lot of a little bit of tlc added to it msx10 m620 and again ms these mxx has like 500 games so instead of putting all 500 on there you know and scrolling forever even though you can hit select on your controller and jump to a letter really easily like i just did there but still and then neo geo you got metal slug one and two so yeah metal slug one and two in the cd and then you got three and x in the uh non-cd super sidekicks snk vs capcom you got a nice video snap here see look at all these neo geos most the artwork is pretty consistent not perfect but pretty good nes pretty cool all the boxes with all the original seal on it but again nintendo has like a thou you know 800 1000 games or so um and just 150 for halloween gremlins too i actually want to re-watch gremlins but it's not on netflix right now it's probably on some other streaming service all right so quite a bit ms-dos okay let's check this out some dosbox bricks lisa love that game jetpack christmas special that's what i'm talking about commander keynes nice dangerous dave you go dave duke nukem two great game right here episode one two and three jazz the jackrabbit i'm not sure if it's the fort or the i think it's just the dos version but i think you got to run a a different port for it to run really well sim farm i don't think i ever played this game i played the simcity for dos but not so you got stunts credible machine lovely game oregon trail lovely game wasteland look at that look at that artwork just amazing okay so it looks like a organ trail wacky wool wheel looks like a does that not look like those i guess put the little cross hatch in there pc engine 70 games another great system underrated in the us but you know for those people who didn't grow up with these games really check them out double dungeons download what a name for a game download pc engine cd 50 games okay so nice collection here i usually don't see this many cd games for the pc engine it's pretty cool a lot of shoot em ups ports tens you got cave story and it's the english version a lot of people that install this game are like um the listio and it's in brazil it's in portuguese you know so you know nothing wrong with that but for a lot of the i know a lot of people if you look at my channel most people either canada uk or us is where the majority are so well i speak english so that makes sense too 205 games in sony playstation so this is where we're probably going to see some people having some issues but wow look at this i i keep saying how impressed i am with with the formatting of the games but it's just the perfect capitalization and everything so here's a list really quick i know some people say like why would you run this port when you can run the arcade version uh sorry i skipped over scum vm over there back to playstation spyros star ocean tempest tiger woods tomb raiders tony all the tony hawks nice really i'm really impressed how much he packed on this image but then it makes sense to me now because he was very deliberate i'm just thinking that there's a lot of cd games 205 and then the dreamcast collection was pretty good the scum vm collection is looking good 102. so if dosbox wasn't your forte this is or if it was your forte this is probably also your forte full throttle gotta love it a lot of these games had a lot of story development in it and then of course leisure suit larry for the mature people out there quest for glory sam and max hit the road a lot of really good ones blade urban runner that was blade runner i think there's a blade runner right too yeah there you go and then the day of the tentacle of course and the dig of course like great great games all right second 32x we got 15 games um sega cd 40 games pretty standard stuff super famicom i'm not even going there 15 of sg 1000 super nintendo only 165 but you can add your own roms really easily with that and then uh the 68 uh thousand you got 20 games cx spectrum you got 130 and then options so this is where it's really bare bones like he installed the bezel project um let's go ahead and see what version of retropie this is on really quick but this doesn't have the bells and the whistles so just nine days ago so it's running a recent version of retropie and so it's a nice i think that's one of those devices run so well as there's not a lot of extra stuff on it you might have to change your wi-fi location i'm not sure with where rick is located but if you're in the us you might have to change that but everything this is all standard stuff that comes with a stock build all right now here's the collections here's where he made sure everything was in the right uh you know category she got action adventure action adventure and just adventure okay the difference between an action adventure is that it has combines elements of adventure game genre with various action game elements ooh the old hybrid approach or you just have the adventure maybe a little less action is that like tomb raider versus i don't know if i agree with these photos here but yeah all right beat em ups uh 94. fighting games right so your model combats your nice x-men king of fighters the games you want your nice big arcade stick to accompany check those out platformers 465 get lost save your state come back hours and hours have fun there puzzle games 157 how many tetris games does he have on here so you got tetris the soviet mind game tetris dx for the game boy super famicom tetris tetris attack tetris from dr mario arcade tetris and the mega drive tetris and then super tetris three and that's it okay cool there's other games are like bricks there's other names as well that they might be under racing games 161 a lot of good racing games in there twisted metal so some racing games and then some racing battle royale games as well role playing 210 your rpgs check those out shoot em ups 271 that's gonna say i saw a lot on this from what i saw it's quite an interesting photo with the top hat and everything simulation games 58 simcity snes great game right here i spent hours on this game there was always that cheat that gave you dollars and i still ended up spending all my money sports 135 strategy 74 worms love worms so quite a bit populous a lot of good stuff and then back to all games his favorites what's his favorite games aladdin love it alien 3 love it i just play the snes version but nice the mega drive version i'm going to play that one more check it out cannon fodder and original curse of sherwood oh wow looks dated but i'm sure it was pretty revolutionary for the time lemmings great game mortal kombat 2 a classic the ninja pew pew pew school days sonic 1 and 2 soul calibur super mario all-stars super mario world super mario yoshi's island tennis 2k okay it's pretty good graphics for its time so let's go ahead and jump play some games and then we'll do my final thoughts hey so here i am and then let's just go ahead and change our input this is it sees that i have a generic xbox so this is pretty simple just go uh so my left analog stick up down left right my d-pad up down left right my trigger my other trigger then we got a b uh c i like to use my right analog x y uh actually i'm going to use my back buttons c and why start button enter all right um so you see it's escape but i can also bind this i believe yeah i bound it to my xbox 360 button so now i can i should be able to um do this so i'm not going to hit the xbox button okay cool so now i have it bound to my xbox controller says you can see a nice 60 frames per second battle one fight all right this is working fine and now that i have it bound to my xbox 360 i can easily just exit the system like that and it brings us back to the home page here so now let's go ahead and check while we're playing some games let's go ahead and check the uh omega theme really quick okay this is pretty cool so it is still alphabetical order but you'll notice at the top of the screen here it's jumping around to whatever that alphabet is so like atari when we get to atari lynx it's going to jump over to handhelds right atari somebody had this as a console but this was atari 800 was technically a computer and then the lynx was technically a handheld so you can see that atari has two consoles a computer and a handheld let's go to like nintendo for example all nintendo nintendo has their famicom which is a home console then they had the game boys which were the handhelds and then sega console sega console but then you have the microsoft msx and then neo geo console so you notice that and then you have ports which is his own thing um and then you have your collections coming up here and collections will just keep you in collections and then i'm curious what they put as your favorites okay collection collection where they put options as settings there you go you get that little three tab over there and then where's my arcade should just go under arcadia at the one arcade arcade classics cool and then when you click in there's a little arcade room the atari room the atari 7800 room wow that's pretty cool the lynx room the thomas wave is a arcade this is pretty cool and so it's got the console roll through let me read what he wrote he said um i've spent every day during summer lockdown working on improvements to this image due to family commitments i'm going to be releasing this early you still have approximately 90 gigabytes of space if you put this on a 400 gigabyte image so for those of you out there that's like 90 dreamcast games or even more than that a bunch of playstation games you know and smaller games should be easy there is no more games i'm interested to add so that's why i didn't fill up the last 90 gigabytes i added 500 games for my last version of this build and i've added two new themes that we're checking out now the epic new r and the omega drive i made new system artworks for the f2r and all the collection artworks for both themes each game was added one by one and tested as usual it's only me working on this image i do get help from some other people here and there but no actual team it's running the most stable version of firmware all my video snaps are converted to 640 by 480 resolution so that's good they optimize less space they're gonna run really well they're gonna boot fast all artwork to box art to look better with video snaps and themes all descriptions added to every game no games which run poorly aren't even included on this image except a thomas wave which that is the one console he gave a pass to overlays are all tweaked for their arcade so that's pretty cool so when you go to the arcade games all your overlays are working really well and uh clean and tidy many menus clean and simple build for retro games all right so yes you can play four players on the raspberry pi 4. just hold up four controllers remember the raspberry pi 4 has um bluetooth as well you have a couple of different options so i'm just going to give you my final thoughts on this image i'm loving it it gets an a because it's not really competing against those do everything images so as far as purpose built the guy went through every single box our every single video snap every game hand selected um this is a cool one i mean i you can see that somebody took the time and really went through this and it wasn't you know don't get me wrong many people have done this in the past but they usually do it for like maybe a dozen systems i don't know if you saw this but this is like two dozen systems or more that the dude has gone through any out of the collections uh and i feel like he really does have the experience and expertise like you know this is his third version of the image he's read all your comments from the last couple images so i really think he's got to get you know the respect he deserves it's like somebody showing up for you know some sort of competition they show up year after year after year and they get better and better and better and even if you're some sort of prodigy your first image isn't going to be the best ever like there's always room for improvement so that's why i want to give this one such a high rating is because i really like it when people come back and add little tweaks especially if the tweaks are worthwhile and yes i think this is worthwhile it's 500 additional games it's the artwork it's the collections it's the themes it's the um you know everything it's just running really good so i would definitely check this out and send it to somebody who um especially you know what this is really good for is wow i'm just doing really terribly here especially somebody who um you know is new to retro gaming why you know people think like oh i want 10 000 games and again don't get me wrong those images are great i actually like them too but i'm just saying for someone who just doesn't know what they're getting into um you know this is literally like no matter what game they select a it's gonna work and run okay so you don't have the occasional like oh why is this game weird like this oh you have to press f1 and then you know do all this stuff uh but also you can be sure that they're going to um you know enjoy that experience and as you all know you know a lot of these games you'll never you know there's just not enough time in your lifetime to do a lot of this stuff so all right we got it so you might be wondering well drew what's bad about it well this is going to be like inception a game within a game yeah we're still in x-men but then we went to f-zero while we're still an x-men but hey the obvious thing of why people aren't going to like this image it doesn't have a nintendo 64 roms on it it's very easy to just add those roms if you want remember you have those 90 gigs free first but uh i think that's the obvious one yes there's no nintendo 64 on this image you have to add it yourself i think that's going to be the number one complaint you know like i said i think some people want all those scripts installed for them so they're going to want you know um everything from like the easy fixes to the um the hursty themes installed uh the light gun software installed all the little additional softwares that again are for you know different use cases right it's not gonna be for everyone but a lot of people like the image that you know so they never have to install anything it's just future proofed and um and then they like the huge collection as well so i really think those are the people that might not like this image and if that's you you probably want to stick with what you're using right now there's a lot of really big images out there on the market or not on the market but out there on the in the free world um and uh boom boom boom nice wolverine and so that's what i think um you know where the downside might be so that's all i got to say let me know you all think don't people like and subscribe thanks rick d talk to you later
