[Music] what's the most comfortable car on the planet a rolls-royce bentley maybe but citroen might have a thing or two to say about that with their new flagship the c5x which promises to deliver and i quote the ultimate in comfort right it doesn't look much like a bentley though does it it's officially a large family car the size of a three series with a crossover body more ride height and a coupe style back end it's quite a daring design and in true citroen fashion it aims to deliver plenty of aesthetic genese koi while being exceptionally nice to sit in the x in the name in case you're wondering is citroen paying homage to its previous cars that have also had an x in the name so citroen ax citroen bx and citroen cx let's have a look at the design now starting with the front end there's a lot going on here you've got these v-shaped led drls these led clusters down here which are finished in a rectangular shape the scalloped sections on the bonnet these horizontal chrome bars that converge to form the citroen chevron and then down here this wavy air intake there's a lot going on here but i like it we live in a world now where so many manufacturers tend to just slap a giant grill on the front and call it a day but citroen have obviously put a lot of thought into their design in profile it's quite an interesting design isn't it it seems to take inspiration from a lot of different body styles so there's bits of saloon in here bits of suv bits of station wagon and it's it's interesting if nothing else some of my favorite bits include these wheel arch extensions which give it a more rugged look although it's not a true suv you can see that from the ride height these 19-inch wheels which come as standard fill the arches quite nicely these teardrop shaped wing mirrors look quite cute as well but the best bit is what happens towards the rear at the c pillar this panel is actually made of glass you can see right through it and that helps to improve the visibility certainly for the driver but also for passengers riding in the back it also gives the car the impression of having a floating roof design as you can see from the way this spoiler protrudes at the back there's also a secondary spoiler down here it's also available in six different body colors including in this case the option of a black contrasting roof when i first saw this in pictures i expected it when i had coupe to look like a bmw x6 but in person it's a really cohesive design let's have a quick look at the boot always very important in a large family car and this is a pretty decent one when the car is launched it will come with the option of letting you open it just by waving your feet underneath but this is a prototype so it doesn't have that feature i'll open it manually for you as you can see it is electrically operated and very very large in there the petrol cars will have 545 litres of space although the hybrids will have slightly less room 485 it's a really useful shape as well on some cars the wheel arches extend into the boot which makes it a little bit less practical but in this it's almost completely square also useful is the fact you've got these low friction guide rails which make it easier to slide heavier objects inside and it's completely flat with a little bit of storage underneath it also has what citroen called magic handle so you pull these and the rear seats fold down really easily without you having to go around by the second roll also this is quite useful this parcel shelf folds up automatically when you open the boot i mean you can't use it as a parcel shelf but it still provides that little bit extra privacy to hide your precious goods very useful inside there's an upmarket feel to the cabin again the emphasis is on making occupants feel completely and utterly at home whenever they climb aboard and it does feel very comfortable inside the car as well the first thing you notice is how soft and plush the seats are it comes with citroen's advanced comfort seats as standard which has 15 millimeters of extra padding on top of the main cushion in order to make it more soft it's a bit like having a mattress topper so it's a cushion on top of a cushion the seats themselves are also quite wide at the back so if you're particularly broad shouldered you've got loads of room to move around it's quite a nice environment to sit in it's also surprisingly quiet i'm not on the road but i can tell how quiet this car is going to be this particular model comes with acoustic glass all round so basically double glazing at the front and at the rear so the entire cabin is cocooned and less likely to let in unwanted noise we don't know how comfortable the car is going to be on the road but it does have a couple of things that are going to work in its favor the petrol models will come with hydraulic bump stops basically bump stops that give you good control of compression and rebound so when the car hits a big pothole for example it doesn't slam into the pothole it nicely moves up and down on its dampers the plug-in hybrid versions will go a step further and include variable adaptive suspension which you can actually choose using this drive mode selector so you can cycle between sport hybrid comfort and electric and choose your own level of comfort in terms of material quality it's actually quite nice in here i like what they've done with this wood effect in the door panel it stretches all the way across the lower level of the dashboard you've got some ambient lighting under there some premium feeling material in the middle and squishy stuff at the top which all makes it feel quite high-end as for practicality it's okay i was expecting a bit more i thought there'd be a bit more storage in the center compartment but it's adequate there's also some storage down here for a mobile phone plus a couple of cup holders and some hidden storage down here for a wireless charging map citroen say the c5x will be the most technologically advanced car they've ever made and one of the things they've installed to make that true is this huge 12 inch infotainment display you can also get a 10 inch version on the lower end models but this thing is nice and clear high resolution and from what i can gather fairly simple to use it's also heavily customizable for example i can customize this central touch screen it's a widget space system so i can cycle between different screens and choose the order of the widgets for example if i want to move my music play back to the bottom right corner i just click on that drag it across and now it lives over there i can also customize the driver information screens so right now i've got my trip computer but if i don't want that i just click and hold and now i can swap it with my own choice of widget if i press energy it will tell me about how much battery is left in this plug-in hybrid model this car also has a head-up display it's the first ever citroen to have a full color proper head-up display in the past we've seen them use this flip up blade basically a perspex screen that has information projected on top of that but this is a proper head-up display which is full color and it shows you things like your speed speed limits and also your navigation information which again just helps the thing feel a lot more premium the c5x has a bunch of advanced driver assistance systems including highway driver assist with level 2 autonomy that's the same level as a tesla's autopilot in case you're wondering long range blind spot detection rear cross traffic alert and proximity hands-free access and start which lets you open and start the car simply by having the key in a pocket or handbag as for engines the highlight is a new 225 horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain that allows for 31 miles of electric only driving which should be enough to meet the daily commuting needs of most owners and with it being electric capable it should also help the c5x feel more refined speaking of which it should also be very comfortable in the back as well it has good headroom and absolutely tons of legroom even for taller passengers with a low transmission tunnel and good amounts of storage so that's the new citron c5x it will be available to order from november 2021 with prices for the petrol model starting at around 26 000 pounds rising to around 35 000 for this plug-in hybrid version citroen have obviously done a lot of work to make this car as comfortable as possible and if it's anything like the ec4 that i drove recently then we should be on for a winner how comfortable will it be we'll have to wait and see maybe i'll benchmark it against the rolls-royce let me know in the comments down below if you want to see that and until then don't forget to like subscribe and i'll see you on the next one foreign
