NEW Taycan SPORT Turismo Review: STRANDED On A Mountain | 4K

um my car is stuck in the snow it's breaking up the signal porsche's taican range is expanding rapidly first we saw the saloon which kick-started their venture in the world of electric power that was followed by the rugged thai can cross turismo estate with its raised ride height and mild off-roading credentials sales of this pair have now gone through the roof with the tai can now outselling every other porsche on the market but they're not stopping there for 2022 it has a new addition to the family the tycan sport turismo if that sounds confusing i'm with you 100 it is but you can think of it like this the sport turismo is designed for people who enjoy the thrill of the road while carrying their families and their luggage and maybe a dog fast and i do mean fast because this believe it or not is the most powerful production estate made by anybody ever this car uses twin motors to make 762 horsepower it'll do naughty 62 in 2.8 seconds and 162 miles an hour flat out where the crossturismo is good for the rough this is built for the road and to test that we needed to find one of the best and good news we found one [Music] this is the rosfeld panorama strauss germany's highest mountain road connecting the bertis garden with hitler's eagle nest retreat [Music] questionable history aside it's one of the finest places to push a car to its limits [Applause] unfortunately i forgot to check the weather report and arrive there in the middle of what can only be described as a blizzard clearly i didn't think this one through very well did i uh the weather in austria in winter is not exactly ideal is it still when life gives you lemons you make lemonade should we start by looking at the design before i go careering off the edge of a mountain road i think that's probably wise so aesthetically the sport turismo is very similar to the cross turismo but there are a few little cosmetic differences first and foremost this little spoiler lip down here is different it doesn't kick up quite as high because the paintwork doesn't need as much protection from the elements at the side you've got body colored wheel arches down here instead of the plastic cladding you got on the cross turismo you still got the motorized recharging port down here which seems to work in the winter amazingly down by the sides here you've got less protection on the side seals again slightly smaller at the front and at the rear because you don't need as much protection for the paintwork and at the back you've also got a body colored spoiler up here and again a slightly different rear bumper again with slightly less protection for the paintwork because you don't need it when you're not driving off-road you know what trainers was a bad idea my feet are soaking i'm gonna get back in the car and try not to kill myself on a mountain road i'm gonna regret this i'm sure [Applause] the rosfeld panorama strauss is fascinating not only is it essentially hitler's driveway it was also used in the film the sound of music today though all we could hear was the sound of mild panic in my voice because driving a 762 horsepower porsche on a snowy mountain road is to put it mildly a bit sketchy in a minute i'm going to start to enjoy this i'm sure within a few moments though the thai can riding on pirelli winter tires was proving exceptionally capable which gave me the confidence to push just gotta trust the car you just have to trust the car in patches on the right type of snow there was plenty of grip and with the turbo s all-wheel drive system i was making short work of the hitler strouser let's do a launch control just just for because i need to stop for a minute so let's just do a launch control and see what happens it could be quite funny right sport plus will we even move 27 kilometers per hour well the wheels are the cars doing about five that is the slowest launch control i've ever done in my life and after a while we were moving quickly snow or no snow the acceleration in a tight can is always rapid in the dry the acceleration is quick enough to make you swallow your tongue and out here even when there's no traction it is still scarily fast i'm actually convinced there is no other performance wagon on the planet that can live with a porsche tycan sport turismo turbo s when people think of fast wagons they normally bring up the usual suspects the mercedes e63s wagon the audi rs6 but even if you want to involve the more hardcore cars like the ferrari ff or gtc4 luso trust me none of those cars can live with this thing it's wild the peak power figure 762 ps need i remind you is available for 2.5 seconds during launch control or on the overboost that's more than any of its rivals once on the move you have access to a sustained 620 ps while that might sound scary the throttle is super easy to balance so maintaining slick four-wheel drifts is surprisingly easy and speaking of all-wheel drive the traction in this car is epic certainly more epic than the traction available for the camera cut yep that is a diesel-powered bmw x3 suv on winter tires getting stuck in the snow and yes this is an electric porsche sports car towing it out of a snow bank this sort of thing you might expect from the cross turismo but to see this level of capability in the sport turismo is impressive right let me tell you a little bit about how this car compares to the others up top it's got the same body in white as the porsche tycan cross turismo the same shell but underneath it has the same oily bits as the saloon in other words it's got the same suspension set up it rides 22 millimeters lower to the ground than the cross turismo i drove it to these roads yesterday and i can tell you i felt the difference immediately the suspension isn't quite as smooth as you get in the cross turismo you might say if the crossturismo is smooth peanut butter this is crunchy peanut butter it's not massively different but if you want a comfortable car definitely go for the cross charisma in terms of the steering is absolutely brilliant all porsches are they just feel so good in your hands plus it's got pdcc which is porsche's dynamic chassis control system they're 48 volt active anti-roll stabilization so when you go into a corner there's absolutely no body roll this system happens to be electrically actuated rather than hydraulically actuated so it responds super quickly it takes 200 milliseconds before it firms up the anti-roll bars and just keeps you absolutely level through the corners not that you really need it because again it rides that little bit lower to the ground it's also got porsche torque vectoring which breaks the inside rear wheel to help you get turned in as well as rear axle steering so again the steering in this car is absolutely on point even in these conditions there's a bunch of different drive modes in this car there's range which does what it says on the tin there's normal which is a goldilocks setting and then there's sport and sport plus you might think that it will be sensible to make a b line for sport plus but not necessarily in all conditions what that does is it basically sends as much power as it possibly can to the front and rear motors which is not always what you want in sport it sends most of the power to the back making it easier to slide let's talk about range now apparently porsche has been able to increase the range in this car without increasing the battery capacity of course it comes with either performance battery small or performance battery plus big batteries and in the case of the taikan sport charisma 4s you now get 309 miles wltp which is the most in any thai can at the moment so everything was looking good i was having an absolute blast the initial terror of driving on this road had vanished and i could really start to enjoy myself sadly i bumped into some familiar faces who weren't having quite as much of a good time oh what do we have here it's the camera car and it's stuck again i wonder who might save them [Music] the irony so the sports car is towing the uh crossover suv whatever you want to call it but the extreme irony is that they have run out of fuel and they're now stuck here while the electric car still has range left i'm just going to leave them george just go i didn't really want to but the x3 wouldn't go into neutral and couldn't be towed so i did need to head off to get help before the weather got worse sadly the weather got worse and i didn't get very far so situation update the camera car is still stuck i don't know if you can see it but it's you can't see it but it's in that little snow drift over there and um i decided to leave them to go and get help obviously i made it about 15 yards i am also stuck and there's literally nothing i can do about it um try going forward try going backwards not moving nothing is happening the weather is closing in it's below freezing right now and everybody has gone there's literally no one here this is a closed road earlier on there were snow plows working to keep the road kind of you know accessible the snowplows have gone home we stayed longer because we wanted to do more filming which means we're the only people on the rosfeld panorama strauss the highest mountain road in all of germany and i honestly don't know what's going to happen next this is it this is the situation i'm actually scared and i'm still wearing the wrong shoes trainers was a bad choice ah i should just point out as well right we've only been here i don't know 20 minutes look how deep the snow is it's well i don't know seven inches in 20 minutes look up here the snow bank is probably above my head in a few hours we could be covered engulfed and no one will find us i'm getting back in the car pray for me [Music] this most definitely was not part of the plan but it gave me a chance to check out the interior which as you can probably imagine is exactly the same as the cross turismo it's spacious stylish even in this green color with a big boot and lots of tech including in this new car an updated glass roof with an incredible variable light control feature letting in as much or as little light as you want through specific zones there's also an updated infotainment system that comes with colored icons and built-in spotify which we couldn't use because we were stuck up a mountain with no data but there was one piece of tech that i could use okay so i've got one more idea one thing to try there's an sos button in the car um these are on all new cars actually so if you flip this down the emergency call has been triggered to cancel the call press the emergency call button again so this should call the making an emergency call emergency services and hopefully um they'll send help my vehicle um is completely stuck and i i need help i don't understand you um my car is stuck in the snow it's breaking up the signal yes eventually after giving them my coordinates the police did arrive but then they promptly got stuck too they weren't big fans of being filmed while stuck so we won't show you that but here they are after a snow plow turned up freed us all and told us to get the hell off the mountain back to the thai can and my final thoughts on the car ultimately i think what porsche have shown here is that the tai can isn't just a one-trick pony they've got something for everyone if you want a nice good-looking saloon they've got that if you want a nice practical go-anywhere wagon they've got that too and if you want the car that sits somewhere between those two this is it obviously i wish i could have gone somewhere to put it through its paces in its natural habitat maybe this isn't where this car should live but how capable has this thing been it's it's rescued off-roaders that got stuck it itself has acquitted itself beautifully in what is quite frankly a hostile environment i'm very Went into this expecting it to be the typical EV nightmare story of "car ran out of electricity".

But no, the BMW camera car got stuck in a blizzard on the highest mountain road in Germany, and while attempting to tow it out using the Taycan, the road snowed over.
