As a Hyundai fanboy, nobody will talk about this car in 100 years.
Itβs a great car donβt get me wrong but letβs not exaggerate.
"this is the car people will talk about in 100 years"
*aggressive eyerolling*
I still cant wrap my head around the fact that this is the size of a RAV4, not a golf.
No one's gonna talk about this car in another 5 years. When people go back and talk about the beginning of the EV evolution, it'll be the GM EV1, Tesla Model S 2012, and whatever successful mass market cheap EV that'll dominate the market like the original VW Beetle did (don't think we've seen that car yet).
People will talking about it after they dredge one out of a river in 100 years.
Brah what sort of title is that. Calm down.
No one will talk about this car in 100 years. Theyβll mention Tesla if anything since theyβre the ones that pushed for the current EV trend.
Norwegian here. Everyone's shitting on the article that OP quotes, so i would just like to provide a bit of context.
EVs are a very big thing in Norway, as you're all probably well aware. 7 out of 10 new cars sold in October were pure EVs. We have them all in abundance, Teslas, Taycans, E-trons, as well as an influx of Chinese brands (BYD, Maxus, Hongqi etc.).
The title of the article was obviously hyperbolic, but i guess the point the writer wanted to make is that this car is the first of the legacy car makers to really include so much of what the Norwegian car buyers want in an ev, correct size for a family of 4, dedicated EV platform, good range, lots of equipment as standard, competitively priced, basically it checks all the boxes, combined with a striking design. Hyundai has also, up until the Ioniq 5, been seen as an also-ran in Norway (perhaps with the exception of the Kona EV).
I definitely don't agree with the quote in question. I drive one of this car's main competitors (XC40P8) so I was in the market for a car like that and actively chose a different model.
So for all US based people commenting that the GM EV1 or Tesla or whatever is the car we'll be talking about in 100 years is kind of missing the point, or not realizing the premise for the article. The statement obviously doesn't hold true for the US market, and not globally either, but the Ioniq 5 is very significant in its own way, at least for Norway.
This car looks like it was designed by Harris Mann in an alternative Cyberpunk universe.
The presenter of this video was the only good thing about the Top Gear reboot. Glad to see him still presenting car content.
He has a great energy.
