14 000. right on cue back door for both 13 000 13 000 boy it comes with just south of 50 well we have a float here from negron in some capacity here just relinquish looks like he is floating very nice and just how much zoomie is hellmuth going to have certainly emboldened by the eight of diamonds but a much better card for negronu at the open-ended straight flush draw 28 thousand 28 000. just north of 50 and for negronu it's not just the north of 50 of the pod it's the fact that this represents almost 50 percent of what phil had in his stack before he fired let's see what this river brings i'm all in wow wow ali good aunt a snap all in with 10 high from hellmuth and despite hitting the duck ah i didn't like the spade didn't like this bait negranu folds the winner [Applause] [Music] this is 42 million dollars in live tournaments third on the all-time money list is gigi poker's own daniel negranu and we also have 15 time world series of poker bracelet winner the reigning defending undisputed high stakes duel champion phil hellmuth so phil let us start with you once again not the most celebratory approach for you after winning round two now that you've had some time to think about it how do you put this win into perspective yeah i was not i i think that the world the kids a lot of the younger generation everybody's like oh phil was amazing and they went crazy great great great great great and uh but i felt like i felt like i could have played a lot better um and uh it was interesting too uh i'd say that um uh some of those some of those bluffs were awfully fun uh you know uh but it's it always boggles my mind when a whole generation says we didn't think phil was capable of that what the [ __ ] you think i won 15 bracelets you think i won 13 know them but hold on terms of the world series and and all these tournaments all over the world by not having every speed so it's true the last few years it's worked for me to play a different style and uh you know but i mean you know you can't you can't be great if you don't have all the gears and you certainly showed us that zoom zoom gear so daniel after watching the the tape back your thoughts on how you played throughout round two um well so here's the thing i'll give you like a sort of synopsis of round one to round two so in round one you know phil has a reputation of not uh basically so when you think of theory and game theory right like there's a certain percentage of the time you should be bluffing on turns and rivers and uh in order to get those calls like you sort of have to earn them right and feel they hadn't really earned them in round one because like as you saw i was making a lot of really really big folds right extensively so phil watched the tape and then whether he knows it or not he was using game theory to make a really good adjustment against that so what he started doing was he noticed that i'm way over folding right according to like the baseline so he started way over bluffing right in a lot of spots which actually gives him you know a much better chance to win um by doing that having said that it wasn't like i was surprised here was what i was surprised by i expected the pre-flop aggression and the seabed aggression because he's always sort of done that what he's never done really ever in a televised environment is actually and it's true he's never on tv shown that he can also couple that with turn and river aggression for big sizes right so one of the things you can do against a guy like phil is um exploit that by overfolding turns in rivers he did a good job of upping his frequencies having said that his three bet frequency still is lower than the norm like he's not three betting a lot he just chooses a different range to three between right so most people because what he does is he takes hands that are natural three bets like ten jack suited and he adds like you know ten deuce or jack six or some random hands right and he takes out some of those um middling hands and a lot of people were like well why didn't you just start four betting him more here's the thing once the stacks got shorter when you're like 40 figure big lines deep when he's three betting he's laying a very big price because three bets are very very large so there is no four bet middle it's a jam so he's basically saying you know you have to jam so if you get queen three or four six off suit like you don't just jam there and hope that you know he doesn't have it in those spots so overall i think he played much better like much much better in the second match he gave himself a chance because the the approach that he took in the first match i don't think was going to be able to be something that long term he could win because i think if you counted the number of big blinds per 100 over the first two matches 500 hands i'm winning maybe 15 to 20 big blinds per 100 right problem is i'm losing all the most important ones at the end like you know the eights against the ace four and stuff like that but um when the stacks are deep you know i'm winning at least 15 to 20 but that's not how you measure it right you measure it by like who wins the match and he's won both matches so you know you take your hat off you say he made good adjustments phil let me ask you about some of the strategy that i've noticed quite a bit throughout round one and round two you're limping uh strategy strategy what's that okay right okay well maybe it's for you it's it's zoomy or it's white magic and then we can throw the strategy word out the window but you're limping a ton of buttons uh can you explain the rationale behind it and is it safe to assume phil that you are simply trying to work your way into the four or five hour portion of the match so then you can kind of come in and try and take that thing down and i don't know maybe get lucky well i mean i i have different theories about the way to play uh heads up no limit hold them than anybody else and so you know my theories my theories are very opponent dependent and then you know having the advantage of watching a match you're going to make adjustments and say wow wow wow wow he did this he did that uh all right how can i counteract that and um but yeah so i mean like it's just it's just something that i do i mean it's it's kind of interesting that you know um some of the stuff that i did in the 80s they seemed to copy it by the 90s some of the stuff in the 90s they seemed to copy it by the 2000s and now that we can see people's whole cards i take a tremendous amount of criticism for the way i play uh nick shulman said it the other day uh when he was on the commentary he's like we all laughed at phil's book play poke like the pros and the omaha eight or better section but now we all play that way and so you know it makes me wonder um you know either i'm a little bit ahead or way ahead or i'm delusional and i'm way behind and you know so i don't know what i'm going to do in the third match i may come out raising 100 of the pots from the button so you know daniel presents a very unique challenge he's a great player and there's no doubt about it he's playing a great strategy there's no doubt about it and so i can't really you know predict how i'm gonna play what i can't predict is that i'll rewatch the match one or two more times and that i'll spend three or four days i'm thinking about exactly how i'm gonna play the first match i i talked to nine ceos in three days i came in super tired i played really badly the first couple of hours and put myself in a hole that combined with daniel's great play put me in a hole i said i'll never do that again i i i went to vegas you know four days early like i always do for these matches with antonio and this time i just cut off all communication with all ceos all the business stuff i'm doing and just said all right listen let's think about this a lot let's uh you know let's let's rewatch the match and let's see what falls into my mind i can't talk to anybody on the planet about nolan holland strategy i'll talk to mike matassa about every other strategy i use i think he's a great sounding board he's world class in a bunch of games he understands the way i think but i've never talked to mike about heads up because he doesn't you know i don't want to tell people what i think and heads up i just want to keep doing it and see see if it works so it's something that i kind of you know that i've really kept hidden my no limit heads up game daniel your your thoughts on how phil just responded to brent's question about his approach yeah so i mean listen so phil he's actually intuitively good at understanding game theory in some ways right so what he described right for the more nerdy people that want to understand it what he described is he saw something that was exploitable right i'm over folding okay so what he decided was from whatever like the equilibrium is he's going to up it and start increasing his bluffing uh percentage a lot right so that's really really good so now i obviously saw that in the second match so now i've seen that he's earned the calls right because in match one i didn't call him ever when he bet over 50 pi none because if you look at it here's the thing when it comes to theory if somebody under bluffs even a little if you fold every single time when they bet big you print ev against that right if they're even slightly under bluffing right and he clearly you know was in the first match he made the very good adjustments using game three so now what we're going to be at for the third match is we're going to be at something that's a little bit more close to an equilibrium of you know game theory optimal play right because now phil has earned the calls right he's bluffed enough so that i can't make these exploitative folds like a perfect example was one where it came like eight six three i had queen eight you know it was check check flop turns a three he bets i call rivers the ten of clubs so i have a slam dunk game theory call right especially you know based on every you know on my blocker daniel you had queensland for the audience you didn't tell in your hand you had queen eight i said queen eight with the queen clubs okay so i had the queen eight right so normally in any situation i'm going to be calling anybody here right but phil didn't earn that from me yet right i haven't seen him like deserve to get called and i think overall if like say for example if players generally speaking against phil over the last you know 10 years if they folded more on the turn of the river they would neutralize them somewhat because i think what phil and i know this because i'm similar in this idea what i want to do in tournaments generally or have is i want people to call me too much so that allows me to under bluff and you know protect my stack right so the biggest weapon against that is people start folding right so if people start folding against phil on the turn in the river that's gonna force him to zoom zoom mode right now zoom zoom mode's effective the thing about zoom zoom mode is you lay a big price when you do that right so you basically have to fade your opponent's making hands because when you do you know you step into it like the good hand that you showed it was a perfect example king six six turned like an eight right so feel that half is stacked in that spot right with the draw you know if i have l and the thing is my range in that spot is going to be a king it's going to be a six or it's going to be a spade draw right now the nine of spades hits the river the other part of my range that i could have is hands that peel the flop that are backdoor diamonds he has the tenon diamonds and the of diamonds so he blocks a massive part of the range that he needs me to have right but he showed a lot of guts and i take my hat off for him because i was like when he told me i had 10 dudes i was like really because i'd never seen that from him before i've been playing with him for 20 years i never saw him combine the pre-flop flop turn and aggression as a whole i've seen him do the pre-flop and flop but generally speaking his aggression factor on turning river is incredibly low and i'm actually going to run the numbers on the whole match and i'll share it with you guys the difference between phil's playing the first and the second in terms of all his frequency so he made a huge adjustment and now well i'm obviously going to make an adjustment back so we're going to see a lot more like what i would consider normal poker in the third match all right i i gotta i gotta ask we've defined white magic on this show phil i know you gave us a nice little tutorial on that zoom zoom keeps uh being mentioned here in reference what phil is zoom zoom play what what is this can you explain that to the audience what's happening in these matches when you go into this mode yeah i saw this mazda commercial i don't know when i mean i don't know when it came out i thought it was 03 or something but it was probably more like oh six or eight but whenever that you know whether where the kid at the commercial at the beginning says zoom zoom and go zoom zoom zoom let's go zoom zoom zoom and i thought wow this is amazing because you know half the time i play super fast when i play poker the world hasn't seen that there's no videos of all the final tables where i ran everybody over there's none the current generation thinks i'm in it they have no idea it's that blows my mind that they didn't understand that you know you think i just won all these tournaments by just playing super tight come on man and so anyway i thought that was really cool zoom zoom zoom so one of the people that i told this i said that was daniel was zoom zoom well daniel's so clever and so fun that he kept saying that he'd sing it with me zoom zoom zoom and every time he doesn't buy each other in the hallway he'd call me on the phone zoom zoom zoom so you know we were always hanging out and he got it not a lot of other people like to sing like daniel and i and so that was kind of my theory and i was about when i'm gonna play really fast and so i'd say zoom zoom zoom daniel and i would be filming something together and i'd say zoom zoom and so it was kind of something that i came up with you know uh in in the decade of the thousands and uh and so and and daniel liked it and daniel kind of went with it and so when he started saying zoom zoom i don't think the audience most the audience or even the most the poker audience really knew what he was talking about except that he's referring to fast so i kind of invented that pulled that concept out and daniel went with it daniel started using zoom zoom more than i did and it's just it's been kind of fun so that's the story when you say this goes into them when you're in zoom zoom fast mode you're referring to to bluffing right i mean it's watching the match and you would fall into this mode daniel would throw a haymaker he would land it he'd take a chunk of chips you'd be down 20 25 000. and it just seemed like immediately you would get right back on the saddle and you just went ballistic in in this like sort of zoom zoom fast play mode is it fair to say that whenever you take a hit you jump right back in doesn't matter what you're dealt you just come right after those chips uh that's exactly right ballistic is a good word um watching watching the match i wouldn't have thought that until i rewatched the match ballistics good daniel lands a haymaker and i'm like alright i'm gonna [ __ ] jab jab them for all those chips back bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang and uh you know and i'm just gonna i'm just going balls to the wall anytime i feel any weakness bam i'm raising it and it's gonna be a big raise uh how much will daniel call before the flop uh if he makes it 1k well if i make it 2400 he's calling if i make it 3k he's calling um i don't know exactly where the line is but if i make it 5000 he can't call you know so let me just make it 5k you're going to try to steal 400 for me i'm going to try to steal a thousand from you let's let's have a jab fast jab jab jab jab jab and then you know he'd land a a couple of really nice punches um and then i jab jab jab jab jab jab jab and so yeah i went for it and uh you know ballistic is is is a good is a good word um and yeah i mean i i did notice that um after i lost a big pot i did open up more specifically right afterwards um so i mean uh so then you know so then maybe it was just pure tilt but i think that when someone gets smacked when someone gets smacked then you're like all right you want to mess with me let me show you what i got in the tank you know uh you you want it you want to you want to try to beat me at poker then let me show you what i can do you know um it's steam ballistic zooms in steam yeah so the way i interpret it though like the way it looks is like as i said you know both phil and i have a very similar idea as for as far as like tournament strategy and the idea of being aggressive but protecting your staff right so that's plan a right plan a is get idiots to give you the chips as phil has been doing for many years that is plan a that is the desired goal right when that doesn't work phil has a plan b okay plan b is [ __ ] blasting wailing with both arms and going [ __ ] you [ __ ] you [ __ ] you i'm gonna go nuts and hope you don't have anything right so so that's the thing is like i want to get him out of plan a because that's his comfort zone right get him into plan b the problem with plan b is then you need to start making some hands and you have to start having some hands because you know a lot of people are like why didn't when you knew he was zoom zooming why didn't you just forbid right like with nothing like because it because like he says he makes his raises so big that a four bed commits you for all of it so now you're the one laying the price right so like basically he could just start doing that and just like all right well every once in a while he'll pick up queens kings of races and then he can get in and now i'm pot committed so i'm kind of screwed so there is there is some medicine for zoom zoom that i'm gonna prepare for uh the next match but uh i think it'll be good i think the third match will actually be most technical but i but again i feel like i feel like my advantage when we're playing deep stack 100 blinds or more is significant then when things get short his and his aggression level moves up you know he plays really well in those spots i feel like i do think you know like i understand he limps and he has a reason for it but i do think he gives up equity by you know during that in the early stages when we're deep that uh is hard to overcome long term but again he makes up for it by having a plan b which is zoom zoom that gives him a chance to win the match phil hellmuth and daniel i'll say this i'll say this there there is there's a it's it always boggles my mind when people are like oh you're not paying attention to strategy what i mean i always talk i would talk this poker strategy with mike madison 30 hours a week you know and so i'm like what do you mean what do you think i'm just purely on instinct you can't win all these titles purely on instinct nobody can and so what's interesting is there's some stuff that's happening and heads up that i don't think people have figured out yet and uh and i can't talk about you know until they figure it out and uh so you know again i could be delusional and think i have an edge for this very specific reason that no one's seen um and i could be wrong and uh you know and so but for sure i'm not going to talk about it or share it you know people keep keeping keep feeling me emailing me can you talk about your head's up tournament strategy and i'm like no you know uh and and i just won't do it i just don't want to do it i just i can't even tell mike of course mike the mouth i guess texted with daniel 100 times yesterday or the day before so mike is for sure i never i never every time i told you know i'd have these great theories and 07 when i was winning everything or whatever 2012 and then uh you know and then i'd find mike was the only guy to talk poker with and then i'd find out that he talked to ivy and daniel and all these people i'm like dude this was supposed to keep private between us you know i promised nobody not that it was right so everybody ivy listens to mike but he's ivy listens to mike but but i but ivy is you know phil just just to be clear you're saying that there are facets of the heads up game that that top level heads up no limit players have not caught on to yet that's the group of people that you're referring to that's what i believe um you know and it dawned on me that you know why do i just keep winning you know i mean i keep seeing people say you know uh phil's a dollar thirty or dollar fifty underdog and i and i just i'm just staring at the screen where i've won 24 out of my last 26 matches against pros playing heads up and i'm going wait a minute how can i be a two dollar underdog or you know i mean something doesn't add up there right and so and and you know the heads up theories are are very very sharp and and i think i believe a lot of them are super correct uh i have to chuckle when daniel thinks he's a huge favorite against me and deep stack i'm looking i have plenty of slots open because nobody wants to bet with me anymore but if you want plus 150 i'll give you that phil you can bet a hundred thousand two hundred thousand i'll give you plus one fifty so i mean you know if you wanna because i'm like literally here's the thing people bet me in the first match and they don't wanna bet the second match people get the second match and they don't wanna but third match so like it's always difficult for me to find action but it's a it's a it's good value 150 is good value i just need the action because i got to get even now so if you want a piece you can put up like 150 i know i know daniel you know you know i'm not a big side better of this stuff and i have tremendous respect for you so i mean i think we're playing for 400 000 this next match i'd be very happy if i could somehow pull off the victory um there were some very big legends about a lot of money like i know i know you got a lot of billionaire friends whatever if you could ask any of them to like help me out by getting me some action at 150 like i'm just looking for like 200 more i'll put up 300 200. so just ask chamoth or somebody and like because they got too much money anyway and say look it's a good bet it's very valuable you know it's very refreshing to have somebody patronize you all the time like you do because no one's ever done that to me like i have all this tremendous respect and all these networks and all these amazing people that they actually listen to what i say and i have such a great relationship with but to be patronized by somebody like every time you're doing an interview with them it's actually refreshing and entertaining for me it's a genuine offer i literally can't find people to bet with me anymore so if you have friends or anybody just let them know that they can get plus 150 on you with me that's all i'm literally just asking for for a chance to get even that's it because now all the people that i bet with don't want to bet me anymore that's not patronizing that's just the truth i'm just asking for action that's it that's not patronizing i know you got a lot of rich friends so have them hit me up does this motivate you phil i mean i i can see it in your face sort of what do you think yeah i'm wondering i mean is this fuel to that you know that hellmuth fire i've had a chip on my shoulder my whole [ __ ] life brent and uh you know to have somebody to have somebody to have somebody attack my legacy i have not said one word about his legacy i have not brought up anything about his records in any area of poker i've sat there and i took it from him uh well i fought for my own legacy uh if lies were told daniel really is i think his new nickname could may well be the politician because when it comes to when it comes to high limit when it comes to the you know the uh it's amazing to me when we're talking about the high rollers that i'm up 1.7 million in them first he said i'm down on them and then his way of spinning it was oh did you have any top threes so then i'm like uh no you know i had a fourth a fourth and a sixth or whatever and so then he's like oh wow obviously you suck it at high rollers because you haven't had a top three and then but then but then in the very next statement this is really clever really clever on his part he says oh well yeah fills up 1.7 because he hasn't played in enough of them so he uses the fact that i haven't played in many of them he uses that to say i haven't had a top three and then he uses the same exact thing the same exact thing to say oh uh it's not relevant that he's up so much money i mean he spins both sides he's a beauty i'll bet you a hundred thousand dollars i didn't say that i'll bet you a hundred thousand dollars what i said was if you think of your roi in these things one of your cashes was in a one million dollar buy-in which skews it so you won one buy and i didn't say it was because you didn't plan enough and i also didn't say you suck i just said your results in these things you know don't measure up to you like crushing all these things and i've always said this as far as your legacy goes i don't know why this isn't enough for you i really don't but like your world series of poker record is better than anybody's in history right so what the world series of poker and history you perform better than everybody else okay why is that not enough for you i don't understand like why does it have to be the idea that like you know you need more than that because that's true like that's actually something that's verifiably true the rest is opinion based jason kuhn said i'm the greatest tournament player of all time so does half of that generation and so does most of the world so no they don't really think they don't actually believe that they don't believe that you want to talk about people i just feel about people's words about patronizing hey danny i know you're a politician but i do listen to people's words right and they lie to you dude you i mean they want you to play with them come on bro like this here's the thing greatest of all time you know we can measure that very very different ways right the question is like for me like are you do you think you're the greatest no limit holding player in the world today like you know without having any evidence of playing against the best here comes the politician but it's true what i'm saying is just true you're not playing against these how about how do you i'm talking about one thing daniel i'm talking about the greatest poker tournament player of all time and i think that's kind of obviously me now in 10 years it might be stephen chidwick or it might be you or it might be phil ivey it could be somebody else but at this moment based on the last 30 years no one's close to my records and so i'm not saying i'm the best player today you want me to see all my faults and all my weaknesses no no no and give me like why can't you stick to world series poker because listen world poker tour you're not right it's been around 15 years you're not the guy there you haven't won right when it comes to high rollers you're not the guy in those so you're definitely the guy in world series of poker history right but like outside of that you know in the last 15 years you don't have results to say that you're you know like the best in the world compared to these guys okay daniel i wanna i want you to spend this who is the greatest poker tournament player of all time today today i mean in my opinion right now i like and this again it's so difficult because i haven't had a lot of reps with a lot of the players no i'm saying the greatest tournament player of all time as of today so the greatest tournament player of all time so you're not saying like you know jake schindler now because he's the you know like i think he's probably among the best players today not him because he hasn't i think it was pretty clear what i said so you're saying who is the greatest player tournament player to ever play the game i think it's a really difficult question i think your results at the world series would give you the nod of the world series of poker for sure but i don't think that also that's not the question daniel who's the greatest greatest tournament who's the greatest poker tournament player of all time as of today as of 2021 i will give you i will give you my absolute pure answer my absolute pure answer based on longevity and playing and continuing to succeed is philip i think phil ivey's the best i think that uh when he was playing regularly you know in the number of events he's played he's played such a small number of events compared to most people and you know he's got 10 wins and he he finishes the job at a very high rate like he's you know my my record sucks like at finishing like i just [ __ ] make the final table and lose but when he makes the money his percentage of wins is insane like he just seems to finish so i would say phil ivey um but again you know he's not playing as many but i think that if he did i think he i think he's probably the biggest threat if he could play a lot to catching you because you're so far ahead of everybody ivy's a great candidate we agree great candidate i don't think i think i think he needs i don't i think he needs to play three four five more years because he only started in the early 2000s and i think poker has a lot longer life span than everybody else so i don't think ivy's there quite yet but i think in in five years that might be the answer you're the answer right now hellmuth is that right in your mind you are the all-time greatest tournament player ever at this moment yeah but but like i said in 10 years it might be chidwick or ivy there might be 10 players better than me but i worked really hard to get here and my record kind of shows no it's in it's incomparable right now and so you know uh and so including tournaments all over the world that i've won uh you know not just the world series of poker you you mention all over the world i want to point out one statistic i looked up earlier daniel your last tournament win was in 2013. you had a shark cage win in 2015 i'll i'll sort of count that phil since you're since that time in 2013 you've actually gone on and have 14 titles to your name since 2013 and that's worldwide that's all the events according to hand and mob so sweet you know it is very skewed in that regard i think it does speak volumes it does count all these little things back and forth it does daniel it it does i just went through the years just a moment ago on 2013 and that's what's listed so you're not talking about tournaments you're talking you're talking the the poker after dark sit and goes first place let the politicians let the politicians slice and die yeah that's a big leap from like winning a tournament i'm not all i'm saying is you know according to mom but w's a w daniel you've had your fair share on poker after dark obviously now two straight and high stakes duel that went hellmuth's favor if the data is skewed in that regard however you mentioned it you get to these final tables you can't find the w it's crazy variance it's actually batshit insane that you haven't had a win since 2013. if you took the worst player in the field right and they're they're heads up like 13 times they're going to win a couple by accident right so the run that i've been on in that regard is really quite remarkable but i will say this like in that time period i've cashed for like over 26 million dollars yeah right so like my second place finishes a nine million dollars in the one drop i got three million in the super high roller ball like i've been cashing for four to 10 10 million you know in almost every one of the years right what's been elusive to me is like the the victories it's been a very strange run early on in my career i ran super hot in those spots like when i made final table i won i was eight no to start right so maybe it's a question of long-term variance catching up but i think what people what's lost on a lot of people is how much variance plays a role in in all this especially when you're dealing with competent players right there's lotties are just all really really good players and so what people will do is they'll be like he's not winning must be this and then if a player starts winning it must be this when really the most likely variant as far as why someone's losing or someone's winning or whatever is predominantly luck in the short term in the long term it evens out and then you know you see the numbers bear out but in the short term you know luck plays a much more significant role i think than people realize but with that i'll say this daniel i'll say this about daniel i don't know i don't know if there's been many people that have made more final tables at the world series of poker or everywhere else since 2013 than him he keeps getting there you know i mean he's undoubtedly a great player daniel you tweeted a little bit of a i guess an introspective of sorts and you were speaking about it just a minute ago but can you give us some insight into how these last losses have affected you on a more emotional level well listen i go through a day usually like after a loss it's like i go through a day and i waste my time on twitter for a little bit and shoot the [ __ ] with people and then like you read a whole bunch of takes right people and phil deals with this too right because people always say things about him as well and it's like the takes are so outlandish you know what i mean it's like most of the takes are from people that clearly didn't watch any of them you know what i mean like you know for people to say in the first match that he absolutely dominated you and crushed you it's like what are you talking about you know what i mean it's like you can't even phil would would not would not agree with that take in the first match right um so so you when you read these takes and here's the things like we put ourselves in the in the arena right like i put myself in a situation in a high variance heads-up sit-and-go thing where if i win you know people are saying okay whatever but if i lose it's like oh my god if i lose twice holy [ __ ] if you lose three times oh my god you know like so so it can be you know it can be a lot i guess but really like for me it just takes a day to just deal with it and then i'm fine like i was able to just take a day off and i went to arya and i played some high rollers i played two of them um came third and one blew it really bad in that one jesus i haven't made a mistake that big in a long time uh but yeah i know it feels good to be back out there i enjoy playing live there's so many high rollers coming up in june july and then you got the world series of poker so i'm i'm like i feel like here's what's going to happen here's what i think is going to happen in the next four six months you have all these people now saying i suck for whatever reason because i'm doing this or i'm doing that and they know everything then i'm gonna win a bunch of [ __ ] this summer okay and go into the fall and then people can say oh yeah because he did this and most of it is [ __ ] because really what's gonna happen is i'm just gonna start running a little bit better i've gone through and listen phil's been playing a long time too so he knows this happens the last year and a half or whatever like the last two i've had some like and i don't want to complain and [ __ ] about it because i know it's part of the game i've had some pretty sick run like in terms of bad luck and i know that because i've been playing long enough to know the difference when it's me just donking it off or when i've like been in a lot of high you know important situations and you know been unlucky so but i know that evens out so i'm not worried about it um but it will be fun to watch the narrative switch to like oh no now he's playing well when in reality i'm playing better poker today than i've ever played by a thousand percent not even remotely close but people you know let me add to your voice there 2012 right uh i think it was 11 or 12 and uh and all these articles came out about how the game had passed me by right and uh i'm going to say it was 11. the game's pass filled by the game's pass filled by the and then then i had three seconds at the world series of poker including the 50k and then all of a sudden phil's the greatest one month later you know um two thousand it happens all the time you know i think it was like 2016 or 17 where i had a really great series they said oh the games passed bill buy again and then and then and then i won a bracelet and i became the all-time leader by even more and then they said oh he's the greatest of all time he's the greatest he's the greatest so i mean the the public is going to be fickle and a lot of people in our sport are going to be fickle they should really know that they really should know that you know there's some balance that should be achieved there between you know the game just past your body and you're the greatest like it's fun it's really fun playing them on the big stage and having everybody watching stuff like generally speaking the average person puts far too much weight in the result of what happens when we're like even shipped and we have like 40 big lines each you know or something like that like these are very short spurts of matches we're playing a couple hundred hands you know what i mean and a lot of things can happen the winner doesn't it's not like regular sport like it's it's like in hockey well i guess hockey has the highest variance but like the vegas look gold knights last night dominated colorado they outplayed them but they lost the game two to one things didn't go their way in most sports that's not the case if you play the best you will win and phil knows this he's been in spots where he played better than his opponents and he loses that doesn't mean that the guy was better than him doesn't mean that he didn't play better it's not how it works in poker because variance plays a role you know and then such as like but here's the thing i embrace it i jump into it with both feet i know that if phil wins the third match oh daniel should never play heads up again he should retire he should do all this stuff like all these people come out of the woodworks to hate on you and i get it i deserve it because i have a big mouth and i was talking a lot of smack you know going into the first second match so bring it on i get it but like some people i think do cross the line too far and and are like kind of like uh i'm silly but listen i get it it's their right they follow me daniel that's why we have the block button on twitter that's why i can block button yeah i can i i i don't like to block them too often because i don't mind hearing it like i like you know i just saw a thousand how many times people say you played terrible and i said did you watch the match no you just like say at least watch the match that's par for the course for uh for all the chat pros out there we're not gonna block folks here on youtube thank you so much for tuning in folks over on facebook please thumbs up like subscribe you want to catch this show every single tuesday well you gotta subscribe you'll get a notification when we're gonna go live uh phil daniel you mentioned a moment ago high rollers coming up in july one of those high rollers just so happens to be 100k invitational heads up championship are we going to see both of you folks in the event i think they're on the list i'll start with you daniel i'm already paid i'm like [ __ ] ready to pay i'm in 32 player field 1.6 million does that count in our bet the heads up you can count every event 25k or above but though obviously just for fairness they have to uh you know you have to use like uh you know buy-ins won and lost rather than just roi otherwise you could free-roll me like that yeah or you could like you know manipulate i'm planning on playing too oh by the way there we go and there's this and there's a mcgregor fight there's a mcgregor fight two nights before and we just baby we just bought some are we on finally are we on for that bet because i know i'm still waiting back to hear if we're final on that bet oh yeah we we just need we just need to negotiate like i know you were saying i should pay right away but i think there's a there's something where uh there's something where uh you know uh where maybe two years i would have to pay if i didn't complete 50 uh you know uh and i were taking my time okay because i think what makes the most sense for me is that you take as much time as you like right you post if you win the bet you know you get you get the money back seems like the simplest way to do it how much are you guys betting again well sure i was going to like 400 200 well otherwise i mean we're supposed to wait like 10 years no i said i just i was very clear i just told you i i guess you never listen to me but i said in two years i would pay and that way you could feel like if i hadn't completed the 50 by then that seemed reasonable i see okay oh i see so that's reasonable so you're saying like you don't post now but like in two years if you haven't completed it then you pay the 200 regardless okay right that's good and then if and then if i win you'd have to give me back 600 or whatever so yeah so are we shaking hands is this like a virtual handshake is game on oh i'm going to i'm going to accept the bet we just have to we just have to like i'm i i don't commit to stuff like everybody else i make sure that you know that the rules are fair and that daniel and i have had a nice dialogue to make sure that the stage is set okay my intent is to bet him i love it uh and i there's i'd like to and then maybe and then maybe i think uh i'd like to include i'd like to get some of the some of the some of the haters money in the poker world some of the guys that have been really mean and disrespectful i'd like to get a couple of those really young kids money too so they're gonna lay two to one we might open up the books there and we'll you know but okay yeah i know that 400k for all the bs he's caused me seems reasonable my goodness hey i want to transition real quick phil a tweet came out just the other day russell westbrook was mentioned this is from our dear friend nick wright from over on fs1 and he and i read this we'll bring it up here on screen a few months ago i said phil hellmuth was the mariano rivera while i like that comparison i want to adjust it he's actually russell westbrook this is a compliment not an insult to either involved and as we know maybe you aren't aware but russell russ brooks set the triple double uh historical mark last night in the nba i believe he has 182 now is that right jeff beating oscar robertson yeah yeah yeah doesn't have a title right right to his name uh instant offense clearly how do you how do you uh take that from nick wright what's your interpretation of that tweet it's too hard to compare apples and oranges you know um i i i set out to be the all-time greatest in poker uh and and as a clear written goal in 1993 and uh so you know it's too hard to compare apples to oranges across different you know i think westbrook is a as a really his place a lot of high stakes pot limit omaha and it's just what he's done in his career is amazing but i can't really compare the apples and the oranges i leave those comparisons for others i know it's hard for you to compare it phil but i think the poker fans who were also basketball fans see that tweet and they think about russell westbrook and the you know some of his haters as he's a very polarizing figure in the nba would say russell westbrook takes a bunch of long twos he's inefficient from three turns the ball over too much sure his stats are good but he's not really one of the the great players did you take anything like that from nick's tweet no i mean i i don't want to read into i don't want to read into you know nick and i had a good time filming together and uh and i didn't want to take anything away from that i mean i think that you know what i really want to do is i need to keep my head down i really need to stay focused on my match with daniel and i need to you know and i need to put up 24 world wsop bracelets and apparently i need to win some high rollers to get some more respect from the younger generation so that's what i'm thinking about when it comes to poker uh when it comes to business i'm i'm literally doing stuff hours every day um and looking forward to launching a bunch of new stuff and it's been that's been fun for me um and i've been focused on that but i'll never poker will always be number one it'll always be my primary i haven't been as turned on to go play 50ks or 25ks because i always thought what's the point who cares but now daniel's saying they're super important that i actually went in those and it's betting me i can't even break even in those and so it's not about the money uh you know and if it were about the money i wouldn't show up i'd continue not to show up but it's about you know it's about you know patting my legacy a little bit and and you know daniel put me in that spot and uh so in a sense he won because he's going to make me play some tournaments that i wouldn't have otherwise played and hopefully in a sense i win because i beat him for 400k and i and i have the whole match wrapped up by 28 tournaments in and that's what that's what i'm hoping so uh phil we got to ask of course after seeing that picture on twitter is is drake watching high stakes duel i did i did i did mention high stakes duel to him and uh you know uh and uh i mean we had a really we had a really kind of funny exchange where uh where you know i mean i think people sometimes take this in the wrong way um but uh i said hey man you've been killing it you know i went up to him at the aria high limit and i didn't think that he would necessarily remember me the one time we hung out was i was at a warriors playoff game and uh and when he left i did kind of intentionally walk just a little bit in front of him and i said oh do you play any poker he said no and i turned around i was done because why bother you know i mean whatever if if you know me and you're a fan of mine then it's you know then daniel knows this that we have some celebrities that are fans of ours and then it's kind of fun to meet them and see if we like them and uh and drake's and i just turned around and started walking and he's like oh why did you ask and i'm like oh so now i can brag greg yeah and so so we're walking into the tunnel right and uh we're talking talk and talk and exchanging phone numbers it's really fun and then next thing you know they throw us all against the wall because stuff's coming through and steph's running 90 miles an hour through the tunnel and he just stops cold he says drake phil how do you guys know each other i was like well yeah we've known each other for years or maybe less than one minute so when i went up to him uh recently when i saw him um i was like you know i thought well i could get tackled by security and right away he saw me gave me a big hug and i'm like shoot i didn't get tackled by the security and it was kind of fun you know we were joking around a little bit i said man you've been killing it you were the number one guy in the world in music for three years and he he looks at me because we're having fun it's kind of cocky we wouldn't do this in front of people but he's kind of like three years [Laughter] and i know almost for a fact that it's five to six years he's been number one right uh including 2011 and 12 and you know three of the last four years at least and then i started laughing and i was joking around i'm like yeah i don't like it when i don't get full credit for what i do either and we both started chuckling so you guys exchanged numbers phil i mean what are the shot that we get drake after dark uh well i exchanged numbers with them back in the day and then we exchanged numbers on saturday night as well um you know i mean i doubt it um i did i did then i turned on that video uh uh how's it go last name eva first name greatest you know i know g4 pilots on a name to name basis it's really great and when i opened that up i saw daniel's old site pokerstars was at the front of that video on youtube and i was like okay maybe he knows a little bit about poker i don't know what happened with that daniel maybe stars paid to you know to be a part of that video sounds like product placement yeah yeah yeah anyway i was like this is cool i was showing my wife and i got the song out because i was going to tweet out a picture of drake and i and i'm like i'm going for this with this lyric and then uh boom i opened it up and and i thought it was pretty cool because right at the beginning of that song and eminem's on that track too there was a reference to uh i mean it was they're actually opening up a poker star screen which i thought you know to me having poker in that video is cool finally uh daniel if you do win round three and and phil declines a spot in round four it's obviously going to be brandon cantu next for you yeah where what he's gonna pay the debt studios and all the money he screwed people out of come on let's not go low here that's silly the guy i mean come on that's just i mean like the way he brought people is next level funny it's kind of funny if it wasn't so scummy but no i don't imagine it would be yeah i don't imagine it no it sounds like we do have a uh another player on deck however you know phil i'm not i don't i'm not so certain he's gonna decline you might say it oh i'm not gonna play bull you're gonna you're gonna totally ex play daniel again i can't see you walking away from this thing you don't remember the last show the last show he literally was trying to get us to only play two he wanted to make it over two he didn't even play the third one you're not gonna play a fourth one you're gonna walk away from the title the only way this thing will go up is if i win the third one because i will obviously continue to play at those stakes yeah so yeah so a lot riding on that one for for you know trying to get that high stakes dual number up to the top i think poker go i think poker go has some has some ideal people i think i think they want uh daniel gotta play duan next yeah we've got dwan we've got ivy we've been talking to yeah we got a couple candidates in the mix yeah by the way for folks tuning in at home you're wondering when round three will be announced we are planning to announce that next week on this show we know the date we know in these two phil and daniel will collide we'll announce it next week phil maybe you could join us how do you know the date brent uh i know people phil i mean i did but i didn't commit until one minute before the show for that date that same person may have already texted me while we were doing this show to let me know we're locked you are so uh you are in the new of course phil of course so we are locked we are loaded we will announce next week on the show gentlemen thank you so much for joining us hold on okay please get it off your chest get it off yourself i really want to say something because i feel like it's important for me to say this right and i want to apologize phil if you really feel like i've been patronizing to you and it's been like too far and i have gone like beyond like friendship and like because we've always needed each other right like it's always a fun thing if you feel like i've gone too far being patronizing and those like things like that i apologize i'll be more mindful of not doing that because i do consider you a friend i like you and i did never want to hurt your feelings you know what i mean i'm sorry if i did from the bottom of my heart daniel you wrote 50 negative blogs about the way i played poker in 8 9 10 and 11 right and then when i won everything in sight for two years you've disappeared and then you started writing them again like a year later even though i had three first and three seconds at the series and there weren't that many high rollers at that point in 2011 and 12 so i just kind of toured the poker world apart for a couple of years straight uh was player of the year at the world series second two years in a row and you've always attacked the way i played poker but you have you have not attacked me personally you know uh you know and and i don't know you you have something against the way i play the game uh but it hasn't been personal and i was happy to go to your wedding both weddings yeah i don't i do think it's not perfect you were condescending the first match i just thought you you you were going to teach me a lesson about how to play no limit hold them in the first match and then the second match you were going to also teach me a lesson but a little less condescending and you know i mean when i when i turned around that first match and beat you i didn't say one negative word to you all right so i guess that's a no on accepting the apology [Laughter] oh i accept the apology yeah but i'm saying there might be a few other you know i mean but yeah like here's the thing phil it's because you make yourself a target too right like i don't say this [ __ ] to eric seidel or the regular people like because they're not out there you know banging their chest saying they're the greatest and things like that but when you do say things like that i have to challenge sometimes because i do know there's some other people that are in you know in the conversation for that and so so that the only reason you get any feedback back is because of your stance to make boastful statements of your own i mean i admit that i'm a target that i make myself more of a target for you 100 agree but you know i don't know i don't know why you're the one that has to step into the void i mean you were very condescending the first match you're forgiven the second match somewhat kind of actually i'm kind of entertained because i'm used to being treated with a lot of respect by by most people or at least people laugh at me at the table my friends laugh at me at the table and my kind of cockiness in the way i am and to me that's kind of fun and i kind of make myself a target you took it a little bit further and actually is a little condescending and i was somewhat entertained and and somewhat it's good for me because uh because you know it's good for my resolve too you know when someone tells you you know uh you know that to the essentially that you're not studying poker strategy um even in this interview and i was kind of entertained by that uh you know i don't think phil knows that he made an actual uh adjustment and i'm like no i knew that i said game theory i was talking about game theory right it's not something like like i haven't studied game theory since uh since i was 19 years old you know it's like it's like bizarre to me i mean it really happens that i don't haven't yeah you haven't studied game theory i know that for sure like you haven't studied you know you you've studied strategy for sure strategy and adjustments you know what game theory means daniel yeah i'm talking about game theory at the highest levels and understanding like you know oh so now you want to amend your statement because obviously i've studied game theory so but you don't think i've studied game theory at the highest levels you want to admit it to that yeah well like i mean like you know using common a tricks and things like that you know yeah like understanding [Music] stuff like that that's not me so you're you're what you're saying is you're saying you're saying using combinator neither neither is phil ivey i would say the same thing about he hasn't studied game theory either he just never you know he's never gone there he said he's willing to do it he might do it at some point but he's you know he hasn't because he's never really put in the work he's just been so good at doing what he does and you've been so good at doing what you do that you never really had to go down that rabbit hole you felt like so you know so maybe in your in your view you have studied strategy game theory but i guess the way that i would define it or the way that most people today would define you know what's available you know that's not something that you've worked with right uh hold on one sec uh yeah so again so i mean listen daniel your definition of the highest in game theory is combinatrix i guess which i've never heard of solvers which i've never used and studying a lot of gto so that's your definition of the top of the top of the mountain as far as game theory today and uh you know but i i think you know you and i just have differing opinions of well what would you should be spending our time what's your definition of getting here well i mean obviously i study game theory because game theory just means you're you're putting time into theories on games it's a very basic broad definition uh you're so you amended it to the highest level game theory but i think that the game theory that you thought was the highest level in 08 wasn't and 09 wasn't in 10 wasn't i think it led you to bad pass and bad habits now maybe this time around you know i never studied i never studied game theory in 2008 i never studied game theory at all the only time i studied game theory was probably three four years ago i didn't spend a minute on it until recently so all those so you're telling me and 08 and 09 when you were when you were when you were having you know strategy sessions with a lot of the online pros that that wasn't game theory i was so you want to define it by first of all i wasn't having strategy sessions with online pros and i was not using game theory at the time i was you know thinking about strategy much like you would and stuff like that but not not from perspective of game theory no not until recently you came up to me in 0-9 and you came up to you know nine and said phil you're never going to win again unless you start doing this i remember that clearest day and uh and i was like results in the last 10 years in terms of like tournaments you know they've not been that good like i mean they could be a lot better if you if you got better and that's what things like you're so talented that i think if you use this stuff and it's my opinion you don't have to but i think if you did i think it would make you even better than you are that's my opinion and on that wow we will close it out thank you both for the time we appreciate it as always and we really look forward to round three of high stakes duel too thanks guys later all right there they go phil hellmuth i gotta tell you i uh i feel like we're probably going to need to have them back again they're not settled the dust is not settled they're still bickering going back and forth uh you can just see it i mean hellmuth is ready to explode right there before you cut them off i mean yes yes and yes they can come on every week for all we care they could just sit here well we have to have fill back next week because we're going to announce round three of high stakes duel which is definitely coming in the very near future okay let us do this we're going to speed through the rest of the show thank you all so much for watching on youtube be sure to click like be sure to click subscribe it's all easy it's all free it helps us thumbs up please click those thumbs up now poker superstars like phil hellmuth and daniel negroni we shift to the kentucky derby and brent we saw uncle ron just absolutely nail it with his pick yeah well he nailed it for a reason because he was in on it he knew that something was all uh i don't know jeffrey was rigged correct me if i'm wrong but we have the the first official statement from uncle ron we have a video here we go on the matter that's it ron uncle ron oh my hello fellow bookie busters i'm at a undisclosed location because we busted that book yes in the kentucky derby we got it medina spirit 12-1 just like we talked about slick white-haired bob baffert sprinting down from the stands just like we talked about our pattern recognition paid off my book he paid me last week i won my car back that i lost in the chief super bowl i have enough money to retire now i'm feeling good but now they're trying to screw us this weekend an article came out that said that medina's spirit had an illegal substance in him before the race and luckily my book he paid me last week i've had to flee kansas and i'm kind of laying low for now um but i've done an investigation [Music] and i don't think i've figured out what happened i think the um medina spirit is innocent i think the person who's at fault for this and who's guilty initials are bb bill belichick oh hear me out oh so bob baffert and bill belichick are good friends and they did an interview an hour before the race and bill belichick during this interview he had a quote he said quote unquote horse racing is tough you only get one shot at it okay he said one shot at it so i think he's slipped up and this is all the evidence we need that it's bill belichick's fault it's not bob baffert his fault and it's he's innocent and it's not the athlete medina's spirit's fault he's innocent that's good to know i think just because bill belichick is good at two things winning and cheating he was trying to help out his good friend when actually by injecting going before the race bill belichick went in injected medina spirits of with this illegal substance to try to help him when really it doesn't even enhance his performance he thought he was doing a good deed for his good friend bob baffert he really just screwed him over because he won fair square we were paid out fair and square and that should be the end of it so i think bill celebrates you know he really he is right wait what is screwed us over oh my god that's that's cough syrup that's what bob i think it's done with that investigation and i think it's time to move on to the preakness so for the preakness we're sticking to the same strategy we're going with the slick white-haired bob effort oh boy and we're going with two to one horse concert tour we're fading medina spirit because every athlete who has been a part of canceled culture and has been targeted by canceled culture has performed poorly in the short term for example tiger woods in 2009 and fell off the face of the earth and golf after his investigation michael jordan with gambling they said he had a gambling problem short term his performance decline so we're fading medina's spirit he's going to be hearing too much other crap from the other horses all week and there's just a lot of bad energy and talk and whispers going around him so we're going with horse whisperer bob baffert he's going to be focused on concert tour whispering concert tour was going to be the favorite for the conducted gary we're going to bet on that dropped out last time of course two to one the preakness this weekend don't tell my bookie but i will be live at the preakness this this weekend i'm gonna find bob baffert's slick white hair concert tour two to one white hair magic let's bust our bookies all right i i mean there you have it i mean i saw a few things there that i have a lot of questions about one question according to bob baffert yeah the reason medina spirit would test it positive blamed on a trainer for urinating in hay who was taking a bunch of cold medicine i just saw ron in a stall jeff drinking some sort of cold medicine and he was there although baffert amended his statement today to say it was in the ointment that they put on the horse so maybe before her uncle okay who's trying to cover for belichick all right or something like that i don't know best of luck let's just move on to the bets i mean i i'm definitely going to bet the horses again jeff because i am a degenerate follow us at ngnf show on twitter to get our preakness picks those will work out really well let's take a look at the tracker remind you all of where we are at and it's pretty nice for mr hanks brent is up about five units it's nice for our bet coin up about two units for me and it's a work in progress you know we're not
