hey what's up guys long time no see uh today is tuesday june 29th here in the sanctuary we're going to be pulling the kit today because i'm taking it on the road to uh the north american youth congress recording in st louis we're doing a pre-recording and then streaming event um so uh it's crazy that it worked out but ben stucky you know guitar player here is actually playing as well he's driving because he just likes to drive so he's driving to the event um so normally obviously we'll be able to take my kit to st louis but ben can drive it there so excited about that uh so lewis and i are gonna pull it lewis has kindly volunteered to help me pull the kit so we're gonna pull the kit uh put the church dw in here and then bin's going to come about an hour and load up so here we go step one get the kit out of the cage figure out what we want to take back it up pack it up with ben um it's gonna be a fun week [Music] hey what's up guys i'm late this morning running behind schedule and i've got some kind of sinus infection or something i'm fighting with but it's 6 a.m thursday the first i'm packing going to st louis so i've kind of taken some stuff out of my pelican case kind of half of the dividers out i got my suit and clothes got my toiletry bag and then i've got some shoes stuffed in the side of my backpack um so that's all i'm taking is these two bags so i may show you a little bit more later about how i kind of trying to pack gear plus like video gear plus clothes sticks you know and here's all stuff so um anyways gonna get to the airport as fast as i can park my truck and hop on this flight to saint louis so schedule is uh fly to st louis my leaves at eight um i get there around 10 a.m we load in my drum's already at the church ben thank you bro um and then i'll go through a rehearsal schedule later but you know all day today thursday record all day tomorrow and then fly back saturday so um should be a whirlwind but a good time um and hopefully um you know god will help us so here we go [Music] the uh [Music] uh [Music] so [Music] all right so just made it on my flight it's like eight o'clock i get in at 10 a.m we don't start until noon so um hopefully i have some time to get straight to the church get my drum set up even checked a little bit on my own i'm sure the video team is going to be there and stuff but our musicians practice is such a moon go noon to three got a break quick break and then 3 30 to 7 straight and then maybe eat but i'm going to see if i can possibly stay after rehearsal on my own because we're back out at 7 00 a.m on friday real early so it's a quick schedule you know it's a it's a fast turnaround um so yeah should be good i'll check back in with you guys when i land in saint louis [Music] so ryman just landed [Music] we're here at restoration church with my man jay lee what's up justin lee doing what is your you have a title audio audio engineer audio producer audio guy king of audio king of audio for the week so this is the church we're shooting at so i'm setting up here um and they're doing load in for gear so mike's we've got the kick d12 um md421 two minutes of tom telefunken is it m80 am80 sm57 probably m80 on top these the ksm27s bro you know what people sleep on these i love these little guys um honestly secret new real audio engines may not like this but i cannot tell the difference between the ksm27s and the 32s i don't hear the difference i've got i've got a 27 i use and uh we got 32's of the church but the 27's i don't think i make them anymore but they're cheaper you can find them out there for like 200 bucks so these are great overheads i've got a pair and you hear them all the time you don't even know it so yeah um i'm trying to beat everybody here i'm probably gonna door to have some food because i need to get loaded in um and be prepared for what else is here so yeah here we go [Music] all right just finished setting up at least somewhat i'm really bad about setting up my kit i was just telling justin that i'm not on people that can just sit down and like settle up i have no idea what it's supposed to look like it takes me forever but we're getting there so we're patching in yeah i'm here ahead of schedule it's before noon and i'm done so i'm glad for that we got the two longest ones hey make sure those uh overheads are equidistant please okay i got a laser i'm going to be mad if they're not i'm not a laser i'm not going to play they're not equidistant i'm not playing yeah that's what i said six inches off um can't play all right set up they're doing check other people are coming in so i'm gonna see if i can find another kit on campus to rehearse got five guys on the way it's a beautiful location so let's see this whole church is they just remodeled looks awesome super cool all right so i'm in the lobby um got five guys delivered uber eats it's 12 15. so i'm just going to review the tracks and eat my burger and fries and uh see whenever else gets here ben's here um other musicians aren't here yet though so i'm not not really sure but kit's loaded in um so that's a win for me hurry up and away isaac hey hurry up and wait what's going on that's the name of the game hurry up and wait hurry up and wait hurry up and wait yep that makes sense [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] all right it is 6 54. um we've been going back and forth band by itself brought the singers in but we had some frequency issues so singers went back out van they're back in now but we're about to uh go through the set all together tonight and uh we'll probably be done probably like an hour or so so great because it's not a crazy late night um man i think i'm i think i got like a sinus infection ear infection my wife took at least our one-year-old to the doctor double ear infection and we've all been just struggling with it so um give me some retroactive prayers i know when you watch this it'll ought to be done but i'm just gonna kind of drink tons of water get some medicine because i'm i'm feeling rough but got a job to do so and excited for it's feeling great sounding great i just i've not played a reason to dance um i've tracked it once but it feels like peace through so anyways i haven't really had a lot of time with a reason to dance so that's my big thing i just want to figure out get through that and we'll be good so doing all right all right it is 8 18 and we're done for the night uh the schedule tomorrow's kind of crazy i need to review it again but we're back here at 7 00 a.m dressed um and then we're starting rehearsals at eight and doing like close-up video shots at eight o'clock i think um so what you do is kind of get like b-roll shots so you have the main shot like we're gonna play it live but then if it syncs up they'll add in video shots right from other sections so that way when you're having service you don't have like a camera guy staring right at the drummer you get that shot beforehand on like a groove part or something that it'll match up video wise so anyways our rehearsal is good i mean it's doing good i'm still feeling rough man so hope i get some good sleep tonight be back here fresh in the morning so um yeah it's a quick quick in and out um and so far so good isaac what's going on good people are you from ohio i am am i introducing myself or are you introducing me okay i'll just make a shirt i'm isaac cowden okay i'm isaac calvin and we're on this stage oh i almost fell off stage here but welcome to the stage of youth congress online 2021. uh as you see here uh you have the mapex kit that that daniel has there uh my section's over there i got this tiny little keyboard i'm just playing a couple bells and whistles that's about it but you know what you'll be seeing this video soon and very soon after the video comes out transition transition we're about to leave i know is there another group going somewhere you got a band uh the production crew's going somewhere okay but you ain't trying to go to the heavy hitter i am going heavy hitters right now we're still going no that way [Applause] he's been on my channel several times collabs i've been on the channel like oh no i don't think i've been on the channel yet you are now did i make it on the faith over fear no i don't think i did it was curtin matt ewing and all that what's up everybody it's 9 15ish 913 uh about to get started our original call time was seven so we were here at seven but uh had some other stuff to work through with like production so we haven't done anything yet um so at this point it's kind of about energy conservation i'm struggling uh energy wise took some dayquil tylenol coffee breakfast um so trying to get that worked out and um but it should be good we're gonna i think do some close-ups now so they got the cage pulled away um like half the cage off so we're gonna do some close-ups uh and then we'll do full band and single rehearsal and then we'll come back later and shoot the service so um yeah we got everything going they're shooting all black magics so it's like a great we'll kind of do a full run through if i have an opportunity everyone's else's gear and stuff but again this event is so quick in and out that it's kind of hard to capture content so yeah but here we go as well so get with it you know get excited uh be energetic be passionate about what you're playing because it's on camera all right it is 11 30 we are breaking for lunch so we got video like up close video takes this morning and then just rehearse some stuff so again what i'm playing uh we have two sets 15 inch masters pstx swiss flanger no no splash stack masters dark splash 20 inch masters 22 inch masters 22 signature light traditional ride and the pstx stack my maypex kit from home and then i'm playing the sledgehammer snare for the second set and the um the black widow for the first set um so yeah everything's going good i'll show you the other guys setups even though i don't know what they are i can show you what they're playing at least and if you're a guitar player so this is first of all travis dykes this is his setup he's playing a bass mods bass um this is ben stucky he's playing a fractal i know that i don't know what it does really but and then hog whatever that is it's pressure pedal he's playing two guitars tyler two tylers so that's ben and this is andy i think it's a lincoln brewster guitar and that's duesenberg and andy's playing the kemper profiler this is main keys nord piano three cam cook and then uh isaac on keys two's playing this m audio um code 61 he's running uh logic i think uh logic main stage sorry main stage and then aaron curtis on oregon and this is really cool he's running his interface dante so there's no interface on tracks as you can see he's running dante straight into the board so it's above my pay grade but uh yeah lunch break now um then we're gonna start rocking and rolling with everything else it's been a great morning so far i just pumped myself full of meds tylenol dayquil apple cold and sinus tons of vitamins like six bottles of water so far it's working out um but yeah it's going well this is the nayc music director ladies and gentlemen give it up for aaron insert applause yeah wow he's playing uh organ and md hey you all have better things to do than to watch this right now can you explain your dante setup your interface via dante like theoretically what yes so what they're doing is they're running me a cat5 cable uh directly to my computer which means i don't have to have an interface it means that i can go literally digital to digital i never have to go d to a and back to a to d and then do all those conversions and so what i've got is a software app called dante virtual sound card and you can select any kind of like two into out in actually on this one i'm sending four channels to them but i can send them multiple channels yeah so you can send is it up to sixteen depending on the dante card they have them up to 64 channels okay so you can literally split out everything if you absolutely have the channels for it yes absolutely and what's really great about it is again you don't have any loss in uh analog conversion yeah they're literally the next time it's going analog is through the speakers oh yeah so like our best case setup if you have enough channels would be like stereo tracks maybe like background vocals yes and then click so like get you great yeah yeah that's awesome that setup is super cool and it's so slimline right you don't have a interface it's wonderful highly recommended so basically to do that you have to have a dante card or dante set up on your board that's right um and a cat5 uh connection what's really great is if you are running your dante network through your regular network switches through the building yeah anywhere where you see a cat5 switch um you can go directly um uh from anywhere to anywhere so it's a really flexible setup so yeah then we got frankie taylor right here ladies and gentlemen local coordinator vocal coordinator running parts and he's got music tell us about your music bro if they're not already on it about this more later but you know i think events like this whether you know you're part of an organization or not or youth congress means anything to you the truth is that you know you're playing in your success and your walk with god it's not about these moments because true this stuff can be taken away and it's no more evident than this year i've never played youth congress before you know some people ask me about more than anything probably and so you know i get the call to play which i'm thankful for but you know oh it's online and it's in a room where we have like 80 chairs and it's a live recording and it's not in a stadium but if i would have based my entire life on trying to achieve like i've got to do this or success looks like this or if playing youth congress in a stadium was what i set my heart to my ultimate goal then i would be crushed right now because it didn't happen i'm sure it would have been fun i'm not saying like i mean everyone's disappointed that we don't have north america youth congress in the the format that we did but the fact is that it's about serving it's about your bandmates it's about uh you know using your gifts wherever that is needed so i just want to encourage you there's nothing wrong with having goals nothing wrong with setting your sights high and wanting to do stuff but don't let that define like your value and your identity because those things are temporary you know but serving god and using your gifts for the right thing that's what'll last so i was extremely blessed i'm so fortunate and thankful to be a part of this event and if i never get called another time for youth congress when it's back in a stadium that's fine that's not what it's about it's not the purpose that's not the point of my life that's not the affirmation that i need the affirmation that i need is is being able to express my worship to the instrument of the drums and i believe it's going to touch people and that god's going to touch people not my ability but hopefully my worship so i just want to encourage you with that that um it's okay to dream high and set your sights high and want to do big stuff there's nothing wrong with that but don't let that be the thing that defines your measurement of success because this is a perfect example this is youth congress this is north american youth congress all those things can get taken away so
