[Music] i'm gonna do something today that i haven't done in forever go on duolingo except it's not really learning a new language i'm gonna be speedrunning korean because as you can see i am korean all right let's go duolingo.com i do have an account now a little bit about myself i am korean i was born in korea i was raised in korea i speak korean at home i spent my first 10 over 10 years of my life in korea grade 1 2 and the first half of three in a korean elementary school went to canada rejoined korea for the second half of grade five and then ever since i never went back to the korean education system so technically my korean did stop at elementary level but i know a lot as you can see i've already been in progress with something spanish chinese and french none of that today fifth most popular language we're still being japanese though i'm surprised we're ahead of chinese what the heck learn korean from english 8.88 million and i'm gonna be one of them did you know learners who complete through one unit five of duolingo achieve similar reading and listening proficiency as university students after studying for four semesters wow this guy alone contributed 46 so he made like half of the course apparently all right i think it's time to start the course okay so choose your path beginners take alphabet advanced learners take a short test we're gonna take a short test all right wait of course i know what it means friendship milk is blue is my goal trying to go fast or is it trying to like assess the accuracy of duolingo i guess we can do both three in a row yay so great i'm a pro let's go i cook pop oh it literally means rice here i see because pop can also mean meal but here i'm guessing it means cybop or like literal rice [Music] is the most cute i guess it's plural because korean doesn't really have they don't differentiate plural and singular really this could mean mouse or mice if you want to do plural i guess you could say g3 we don't really care r minus cubes that's the answer eight in a row oh my god i'm like getting mind blown over how good i am six right what do you mean write this in korean that's one choice you're giving me one choice obviously that's gonna be the answer was that an error pronunciation for duolingo is kind of awesome see you in a bit dad see you in a little while dad means 60 years old in western age yes there's a difference between korean and western age let me explain that really quickly korean when you're born you're one western when you're born you probably know this you are zero that's not the only difference the day you age is different in the west you gotta pass your birthday not in korea though you gotta pass january first everyone gains a year uh at the exact same day literally the most frequent question that people ask people born on december 31st turn two the next day that also means that people born on january 1st and december 31st are the same age and they age at the same time even though they're 364 days apart i take the medicine in the morning we don't have to put i because korean that's how korean works it makes sense without having to put pronouns let's just take a very basic sentence we have a different sentence structure so you know how in english it goes a subject verb object well in korean we have subject object verb you can say or you can just drop the which means i and you can just say so this kind of in english would literally translate to ate food and that's just how korean really works it's just very implied so when it comes to translating you gotta look at the context because depending on the context this could mean i ate food or you ate food or he ate food or [ __ ] food or they i guess we'll just put ai [Music] it's the first goal i'm just literally translating the answers right away without even looking at the words given [Music] it means toilet shower are we done we're done with this oh please i'm so curious hey i've reached my daily goal congratulations you tested out 36 skills i've earned one linga all right the currency the duolingo currency one day streak that's probably going to be broken by tomorrow you know actually i feel like korean got better living abroad if you're asking why or how that's impossible i write songs now and all the songs i write are in korean that's complete you fall unlocked 58 of the korean course so we've gone alive oh that's not the end complete oh yeah let's go soy sauce we're speed running boys we have three hearts cha means ruler turkey i love how this video has turned from a speed running korean duolingo into a korean lesson something about the economy is economic what wait wait wait wait you never even say that in english would you it's like that means oh yes the floor is made on the floor the economy is economic but let me actually think okay that's the weirdest korean sentence i've ever structured in my life [Music] or c like this technically is the right answer but us if we have to put that i i guess well well i guess we have to put which means us people would understand if you didn't put us i wonder if dueling would mark me incorrect if i didn't put us because technically would be right maybe that's something to check because i do have three lives here pongju that's race that means watch or examine i took that's not even a full word finnish nosebleed [Music] it does not mean coffee that's copy copy is spelled that's way kopi is spelled that way that means nosebleed i guess it sounds kind of similar but it's very not if you say i want to drink that sounds very gross i don't recommend you say that at a starbucks write this in korean toilet shower deja vu [Music] if you know how to read the words written in korean over half the times you will be able to see what it means like this that says reading korean is very easy that's what i'm trying to say now i'm not going to teach you how to read korean in this video because i already have a full made video about that so if you want to go check out how to pronounce korean letters go check out this full video that i made years ago it's a very good comprehensive video and i don't think i can make a better video than that cold medicine when i first read that in english i thought it meant medicine that was cold and upon reading the choices i realized it's medicine for a cold kanga yes oh dear wait if i have to type this in english like literally type it you know there could be many ways to phrase this but it means a girlfriend the same age as me [Music] girlfriend the same age as me a girlfriend of the same age i think i got most of the most important words there what i'm actually genuinely confused what does that mean choi means meadow i'm sure or a field the heck is i'm speed running duolingo korean and i'm searching up plateau oh i did not know that please don't say grasslands okay do i have to say grassland i'm not gonna risk it okay because if i got the last question incorrect which i should not have i'm not gonna risk it at all she went drive to say clothing store can i just say store okay a clothing store there's so many ways to face this yes the white porcupine hikes often that's a weird sentence goes hiking often [Music] is it the hedgehog that's wrong okay i really as a native korean i should not be having one heart remaining are you kidding me white porcupine is porcupine and hedgehog that wrong no no does mean both [Music] to translate it if duolingo is going to be super strict on me i don't want to do this is the city that hosted the 23rd winter olympics no do people say host city pyeongchang is the xxiii winter olympics host city what's a yearbook oh my god what's up it's like is it like a forecasting place but what would you say that see it's just like words that you wouldn't really say in life let me search up the neighbor dictionary oh is it the weather man i don't think i've ever heard any korean person say yebugun for weatherman the weatherman is popular here when's the last car when's the last shift no i'd say car personally in my life i don't know how joey wants it when's the last ride and the last ticket you can see last ticket nope i'm gonna risk it what's the last ride [Music] that's incorrect you know why bhakta doesn't always mean train believe it or not it can mean a bus or a subway i'm so mad that's the last question that's the last question you've learned the skill pronouns indefinite and 28 others thanks am i done now did i get a trophy oh i did i got a trophy you've conquered the korean skill tree first of all you're awesome you've completed korean skill tree second of all we'd like to take this time to thank you sincerely for lanky participation on duolingo so in honor of you here's a very special trophy in which to show her gratitude the duolingo team wow did i actually master korean that's insane that was an anti-climactic ending though because i got the last question wrong lengthy participation and that was not even half an hour oh damn i should print this out and post it on my room wall so we're done are we are we done with korean i actually can't believe it are we done that was like very easy i thought it'd take like an hour to get through everything there's no way i'm done with korean there's no way i guess [Music] i'm done with korean i think that's it we've unlocked everything i mean yes technically we can take everything and like fill all these circles up without being very not needed very unnecessary because we just we got a certificate certified korean legendary master thank you so much yes [Music] you
