actor and singer of the number five pop smash heartbeat struck small screen gold again with nash bridges this light-hearted body cop show paired him with cheech marin of chichen chang fame who played the straight man and ran for six seasons miami vice only lasted five he traded in former italian sports car for american muscle and hit the streets of san francisco to stump crime as always you're watching how they changed and let's take a closer look at this beloved 90s staple starting with its most fascinating facts nash bridges debuted on the 29th of march 1996 on the cbs television network the show starred don johnson as the eponymous nash bridges an inspector and later captain with the san francisco police department's elite special investigations unit as the show begins he's in his 40s twice divorced and dealing with a fisty teenage daughter cassidy joe deleon o'keefe nash convinces recently retired inspector joe dominguez to each marine to return to the force to partner with francisco bridges made great use of the scenic bay area including its bridges locations like the embarcadero and piece 30 through 32 serve as a backdrop and much of the show was shot on treasure nash bridges ran for 122 episodes versus 111 episodes for miami vice in 2009 it was announced that nash bridges would return to tv with a two-hour movie followed by a new season of episodes the script that hunter s thompson and don johnson wrote and pitched to nbc was much darker than the series ended up and wasn't particularly suitable for prime time in it nash was a drug addict who was dating the daughter of a wanted san francisco california mafia figure according to the opening credits sequence of the first season nash was born on the 7th of december 1955. it also featured nash's and lisa's divorce document according to which his full name was nash nicholas bridges and hers was lisa crandall bridges lisa was the petitioner of their divorce and nash was the respondent [Music] don johnson shared a playful love-hate relationship with jasmine bleath caitlyn cross who played an internal affairs inspector trying to find corruption in the unit on miami vice 1984 johnson as james sonny crockett shared an edgier more intense one with pop star sheena easton caitlyn davies [Music] the sixth season of nash bridges would be its last however the show was obtaining fair ratings from nielsen following its friday night ratings battle which it was losing to nbc's law and order special victims unit the show was cancelled paramount network television which was produced in the show felt that its two million dollar per episode production cost was just too much cbs was hoping to get a seventh season out of nash bridges but that failed because paramount wasn't willing to pay even though at that time viacom had owned both cbs and paramount don was already exploring other opportunities doing a tv series five days a week for as long as he did is an exhausting task don was ready to move on elliot means don johnson's publicist another factor that led to the ending of the series was that don johnson wanted out johnson was getting tired and cbs and paramount had enough episodes
