Intelligence squared is a great resource for all sorts of history related discussions and debates. This was one of my favorites about whether or not Britain should have fought in the first world war

I just listened to this through the Intelligence Squared podcast last week. I have to admit that the negative just didn't show up to fight.

The affirmative made a convincing case, but the negative just seemed to stand up and say, "Well, he was actually a pretty shitty human being." That may well be the case. But the others mentioned as being great were also pretty shitty human beings. For that matter, the parameters for being great admittedly weren't defined well (or at all) by the affirmative, but the negative also never set out any sort of metric by which to determine whether someone is or is not great. Presumably because, being historically literate, they are rightfully hesitant to do so.

Having said that, I went from nay to yea during the course of the debate.
