cloaked figure enters the cottage where a faint  light was glowing from somewhere at the back of   the small building you were curious but scared  because you knew deep down what he was you still   peeked through the window and spotted the  Black Cube with a skull floating above it   in front of it was a goat then the figure turned  around and stared at you with his glowing eyes   you ran sensibly the figured smiled Myrkul  god of death was once the Crown Prince of a   small country ruled by farmers and large horses  imagine a country lacking the military prowess   to tame a large horse that country birthed the  god this makes us wonder how his Ascension went   for one miracle was the Crown Prince of murgon not  just a farmer he was also interested in necromancy   and became a warlock at a rather young age with  all of his wealth he could probably do a lot of   occult research and we do know that Myrkul became  a feared warlock over the course of his life   on the world of Faerûn gods are not born they  are created or even chosen every aspect of life   had to have a God and once one died the duties  and power belonging to such an aspect had to be   given away to the next being this could be done  by the previous God as well so Myrkul together   with his friends Bhaal and Bane who you might  know chose to slay a god there were seven gods   who had been lost so they went on an adventure all  three being massively overpowered adventurers they   gathered an army to first defeat a smaller deity  of Elemental chaos they killed him to harvest his   Elemental chaotic powers only then did they  face Jergal the gods of the end of everything   he ruled over the aspects of death murder and  fear death being the end of life murder the   same and fear basically being the end of the  Mind the god of the end was tired and once his   army was defeated by the trio he did not wish to  fight himself so he gave his powers to the trio   who divided his powers between them I found this  moment a bit strange so I went through my books   and found that Jergal thought that being the God  of all things that ends was unruly for one God it   was too much power to much responsibility and a  way to important function to have so he was glad   to have the powers divided over the three Gods  but he would stay as a backup god for the three   Bane then became the god of fear naming himself  the ultimate Tyrant Bhaal the god of murder and   Myrkul became the god of the ultimate end the  god of death forcing him to be the farthest   removed from humanity and at the same time the  closest aligned to them for death followed all   once Myrkul became the soul god of death and  Bones he started to influence the world the   gods of Faerûn gather their power from the  amount of thought emotions and belief they   get from the people of Faerûn Myrkul noted that  most Mortals were afraid of death so he had to   instill fear in them to make them think of him  as a God he was very far removed from Humanity   murder was something that humans did fear was  something humans felt but death was something   almost no human on this Fantastical world had  ever experienced so Myrkul could only influence   the living by masochists through those that  would almost die and would be at his doorstep   or who had just died by resurrecting them  Miracle almost never revived someone as he   wanted to keep the death to himself so the  only choice he had left was to influence the   people solely through the people that almost  came to him still he gathered himself a small   following of death priests which was impressive  for they (the humans) were mostly afraid of him the death priests would spread the fear  and eventually respect towards death and   towards Myrkul they would devote themselves  to Myrkul by respecting death and those who   almost died as well as this was the  only way to become closer to the god   they were not allowed to force death upon human  because that was up to death and Myrkul itself   but why then does Myrkul resurrect creatures  on his card he doesn't he actually has a wall   for beings that do not believe in death  and in Myrkul a wall that eats their soul   that's what happens to your creatures they become  enchantments in the Big Wall of Myrkul unfaithful   Myrkul's followers are called finger bones gray  ones or Myrkulites they took care of the dying   not to save them but to guide them and make their  death less painless (so more painful) they'd even   carry out final wishes for a price every church  needs money Myrkul could speak through these   priests sometimes as well they get into a very  deep trance for this which might be a bit like   death in some ways then why were people afraid  of these priests well they shared Myrkul's Powers   which enabled them to make people feel uneasy  they could also stop a spirit from being alive   right out of someone's body they could rot flesh  or regenerate it they could reshape bones and stop   any artifact from being holy Myrkul's followers  worship Myrkul especially at dusk this is the   time when they dies at night starts you can offer  Myrkul some sacrifice almost dead animal and guide   them towards that death peacefully then you ring a  deep sounding Bell to note that you've sacrificed   to the god of death once a year at the Feast of  the Moon the dead are most with us Myrkulites   then listen especially well to the messages of  the Dead by letting them write in dust or ashes   now a small actual list of teachings of the  Church of Bones all are equal before death   don't be stupid don't presume don't share opinions  unless asked show respect to those you visit if a   guest is disrespectful torture them when you're  outside don't bother anyone if someone does   to you tell them to stop once if this doesn't  work destroy them that's what it says don't   hurt young children okay don't sacrifice  people who don't want to be sacrificed   once a year sacrifice an animal that is already  on death's doorstep and use all of its body   plant trees on Graves and care for them they  shall become shrines that's a good list mostly   the city most of the year was ravaged by a  plague called the black whisper two Priests   of Myrkul would tend to their death so the Lord  of Bones would receive the sword of gith via   the follower akachi this sword grew with this  wearer and would grant them courage protect   their minds and made allies for them when  the wearer would falter in their beliefs the   sword would make them fearful and weak instead  back to akachi his lover died and akachi asked   Myrkul to save her which he refused to do it is  ill-advised to turn against Myrkul while he was   detached from emotion anyone that portrayed  him was fed to the wall of the faithless   still akachi fought miracle and lost being sent to  a fate of being faceless literally and wandering   Faerûn forever while eating Souls akachi's memory  of Myrkul was what kept Myrkul alive or dead   through the time of troubles before we get into  that let's explain a little bit about portfolios   Myrkul later Allied himself with Bane and  went to steal the tablets of Fate from Ao   the hidden one had the goal of ensuring that all  gods would then to their portfolios as Miracle's   portfolio is death he had all powers Ao but only  use them to punish deities who were untrue to   their purpose the tablets of Fate were a sort of  book of Santa Claus which recorded all names of   all gods and their portfolios they actually  did not hold much power themselves at all   Myrkul hoped to steal ao's Powers but once  they had the tablets they were not powerful   at all the tablets Ao asked who stole them and  when no one confessed he punished all the gods   and stripped them of most powers the gods then  became avatars with the fraction of the Gods power   this was also called the time of troubles the gods  still tried to take the tablets but failed over   and over until Myrkul recovered one of the tablets  and took it to the great waste he tried to take   the other one from Midnight but she incinerated  him being a powerful pyromancer after burning   up Myrkul's Essence was spread over Waterdeep  which made zombies and other types of aquatic   on that spring up from the water for the rest of  time at the center of this tainted water a temple   was built called Legacy of deep death a great  place for a deity Adventure not for a vacation   when Myrkul died his priests instantly switched  to a new God Cyric who never became god of death   really so when gallimvore became one for some time  the priests switched again to worship gollumfor   all in the same place called the bones fires at  the end of this time Ao destroyed the tablets   then from the time of troubles onwards the era of  upheaval began apparently the tablets did not have   powers and they were there to keep the balance  between Gods so now chaos and shoot whether this   secretly influenced the start of the spell plague  at the hands of cyric is unknown Myrkul's Avatar   was a skeleton hidden in Black robes much like  his mortal version he had a bit of skin but it   was all blackened and wrinkled as touch disrupts  life force and inflicts mummy rot among Mortals   he could incite fair and unease with every word  or action that also means raising his hand or   saying hello what remained of his Avatar was the  crown of horns this was a crown which bestowed   Powers upon his rarest that are much like Myrkul's  but then Myrkul possessed it this made the wearer   necromantically able it would also align them  neutral with a neutral Evil Personality and that   is interesting because now you can play in your  campaign with Myrkul still he has been revived in   some ways but that is not really too clear but you  can always play with the crown and be Canon about   so that was it um in some stories by the  way I have to say that the crown is gone so   uh it's not always Canon per se but um I  want to thank you for listening and let me   know if you have ever played with a Myrkulite  character Ada or Myrkul himself perhaps and
