good morning guys welcome back to pro status painting uh this is day two actually day two and a half but um we went ahead and we sprayed out all the trim already did that yesterday so we left it a good day for it to dry that's what you want and then we went ahead and we sprayed out all the doors and jams already we're using the benjamin moore advance and they came out nice super smooth it's got a little more thickness to it than um than other paints that we've used before so that's a plus and then on the baseboards the builders they kind of um they messed them up a lot so we had to patch everything we had to patch pretty much every single corner but we you know to achieve a nice clean paint job we have to do all that prep work um but yeah there it is right there we did the shelf one more time just to you know bring it back to life on this job we're using all benjamin moore so as you can see we use the advanced and that stuff was working really good for us right now we're going to start using now the regal select uh just in this pile here was like about 1500 so if you guys are looking to buy the wrinkle select just looking to see you know it is going to be pricey i already started cutting in one of the accent wall colors and it's covering really good so after it dries we'll see and then we'll do a second coat if it needs it for sure but i wanted to talk to you guys i want to make a video on how i do my lines uh this is a brand new home so it's never been painted before except for with the white flat but they don't do any cutting in they just go flat and then they go flat so there's no cutting in up there um so there's a little technique that i that i use and i wanted to share that with you guys um it is it is really difficult to get a nice clean straight line especially when you have bold colors like these so i i found this little trick a long time ago and what you all you need is a putty knife it's got to be a flexible putty knife too don't don't get a stiff one right then you get on the ladder so when you come right here as you can see there's my line right there what you want to do is you want to grab your putty knife and just flat flat um put it flat on this on the wall and just go straight up boom and it's gonna tap so don't don't angle it or nothing just just put it right up against the wall flat and then just run it right across and then do the same thing with this side over here and right across so now you're like you know don't worry about that scratch because this is a flat wall so even if you go like this see it rubs so don't worry about that because you're going to be painting it anyways what you want is you want that line see so now that you got that line [Music] now what you do is you grab your paintbrush and just follow that line do not go over that line just keep it right under and and it works so right now i'm using a it's a three inch angle uh this one is the pro pro glide from purdy that's all we use um you just dip it on your paint bucket right there i always smack a little bit on the on the side just to like avoid any drips falling down once you have once you have no drips coming down then you apply it on the wall when i apply it on the wall i apply it a little bit lower than the line you don't want to go up the line all the way on the first try just like so and then slowly you go up to your line that you just did with the putty knife and just follow it nice and clean and straight no no rush try to rush it then you're going to go over that line now if you do go over that line all you got to try to do is just kind of try to even it out and obviously there's always going to be imperfections because of the you know you got your ceiling then you got your wall and then what they do sometimes is they do the caulking so it's never going to be a perfect 45 angle so that's why if you go up a little bit over the line it doesn't really matter as long as you you try to fix it you know by going a little bit more to the sides but yeah that's my trick check it out and then let me join it up real quick and then i i can i'm really good at using my both hands so as you can see i'm using my left hand right now and that's just from practice from all the years i've been painting but yeah a lot of times um a lot of people will do tape um they'll put tape on the ceiling and that's that's good too for if you're like really really need help but i really don't like to use tape because with the tape it'll bleed through and you'll end up having to do a lot of touch-ups um another trick too another thing too if you do use tape i always recommend to take it off as soon as you paint so let's say if you're doing two coats fine do tape do it do a first coat let it dry your second coat take tape off right away do not let the tape dry because if you let the paint dry onto the tape then what it'll do is when you come back the next day or something to take off the tape it'll it'll peel off your paint because pretty much you're you're you're sealing that edge so what you would have to do in that situation is use a blade to cut the 45 like that right edge from the tape and the wall so it just causes more more extra work but as you can see just a little bit of patience um you can achieve this by just using the putty knife just use the putty knife just go straight up mark your mark your corner and then just follow follow the mark now one little thing that i just wanted to point out is when you're painting bathrooms you're not gonna be able to achieve that because the bathroom ceiling is semi-gloss and though and the walls are semi-gloss so when you get your putty knife it's not going to achieve the line here it does because if everything's on flat it's a flat surface so just kind of be aware of that hopefully you start on the walls flat walls first and then that way when you get to the bathrooms you can kind of freehand it or in the bathrooms i would suggest using tape because you have a sheen underneath and that's going to help you know from from not bleeding the paint bleeding through so please hit the like button subscribe comment down below if you guys have any questions and i'll show you a video once all this is done thanks bye
