we're streaming our services live i want you to i want you to get the change experience i think it's going to add value to your life also you're about to watch a message that i taught at our church it's actually at our studio in atlanta georgia and it's called my time is coming it's a part of the jaywalking series and i hope it blesses you in a tremendous way and as always i only have one people as possible change their life all right enjoy the message my time is coming john chapter 7 verse number 6 says this therefore jesus told them my time is not yet here for you anytime will do i want to talk from this subject i want to tag this title this text family this is your declaration this is your affirmation i want you to drop in the chat i got you busy in the chat already i want you to drop this in the chat my time is coming that's that's the subject of the day sermon my time is coming family i think if we were to be objective and honest many if not most of us would have to admit that in some season or seasons in our spiritual journey we've had to wrestle with the uncomfortable tension between attempting to discern watch this what god wants me to do and when god wants me to do it i know there are some individuals who may or who may have had experiences in their spiritual journey where they've never encountered seasons of ambiguity and uncertainty and greatness seasons where for them everything was crystal clear black and white they were able to disturb discern with distinction what's them and what's god when they should do it how they should do it and they've never wrestled with the anxiety of ambiguity but for the rest of us we would have to honestly admit that there are times when the tension is great between attempting to discern is this god or is this me yeah if we were to honestly audit our emotions some of us would admit we wrestle with competing and conflicting emotions where we feel like we're ready to go but at the same time recognizing it's not time [Music] this this ambiguity this uncertainty is a reality that many of us have wrestled with however i want to use the story of jesus to offer you some perspective on how to manage that tension i i believe jesus provides an example for us offer some insight to us as we attempt to wrestle with the tension of what does god want me to do but then when does god want me to do it i i want you to i i want you to to catch this this is important i believe dr jesus the great physician the bombing gilead if you gave him your symptoms of uncertainty ambiguity greatness he would write you a prescription called patience did you hear what i just said watch this i think we're accustomed to hearing about patients when it coming when it comes to waiting to do something i'm not so sure we're accustomed to hearing about patients when it comes to waiting to get clarity on what i'm supposed to do [Laughter] i am telling you that sometimes patience is required not just when you're doing something but patience is also required when you are attempting to get clarity on what you are supposed to do i want somebody that's receiving this revelation to drop patience and put it right there in the chat yeah yeah here it is because because this would be the description the prescription excuse me that i believe jesus would write for those of us who are trying to get clarity in seasons of ambiguity listen to me maybe jesus uses ambiguity as an institution of education to teach you patience because the only way you learn it is when you have to use it you don't learn patience from a sermon you don't learn patience in church you learn patience when god drops you in seasons where you have to exercise it or go insane see don't miss this see patience biblically is a word that means to be long tempered patience biblically does not mean waiting because there are certain situations god places you in where you don't have a choice but to wait patience isn't just about if you wait patience is about how you wait [Music] it is a ah it is a trait god wants to build on the inside of builders come here i said it is a trait that god wants to build on the inside of the builder and so if god is not building patience in you it may be because y'all not catching this you have not yet got the revelation that you've been called and commissioned and created to be a builder because god builds in the builder before the build the bills did you hear me the builders focus on building a thing god's focused on building the building because god knows i put the gifts on the inside of you and my gifts and calling is without repentance they're irrevocable so i know you got the capability i know you got the expertise but what i'm doing is i'm building watch this i'm building the building because you not building what i've called and created you to build is not because you lack the competence it's going to be because you like some character traits that are required of builders are you hearing what i'm saying and so god may use seasons of ambiguity to teach us things we will not learn any other way one of those things is the ability to be patient y'all don't like this one do you uh-huh i want you to know if you're in the business business of building people you will not be able to successfully fulfill that assignment if you do not develop the trait of patience people can have breakthroughs instantaneously but they do not change instantaneously y'all did you hear what i just said they can have breakthrough moments instantaneously but change happens incrementally and change often happens in cycles not just in seasons but in cycles where people make progress and then they regress they quit a thing and then they go back to it they exercise consistency and commitment and then they go back to patterns of inconsistency and commitment because what some people are dealing with are not bad habits they're dealing with lifelong strongholds and so not only do they have to reorient their activity they've got to renew their mind and rewire their brain to to behave in a way that is consistent with the new change they're trying to bring in their life and so if you're trying to build people and help people you will not be able to do that if you have not developed the trait of patience god says i i need to build this in you because you're gonna need this to build i need to build this in you cause you're gonna need this to build you ladies and gentlemen watch this you and i must have patience and three as one with people because the people okay are y'all ready for this some of the people that you need to build what you've been called to build our people god is still building did you hear what i just said some of your purpose partners are in process and most people have patience with everybody else's with that they have impatience with everybody else's process and journey except for theirs so it's okay for god to take his time with you y'all aren't but it is not okay for god to take his time with other people see the joseph that's gonna save you in egypt might be the joseph right now that's reckless and immature but if you will let god process him and develop him and sanctify him then he may eventually become the joseph that saves your family from famine what if i told you that many people's anxiety comes from their impatience because because they have an erroneous assumption that is not supposed to take as long as it's taken did you hear what i just said you you got you got to have patience you got to have patience when god sends the people and you got to have patience for god to send the people listen to this because watch this if god is building the builders it means that when he sends you people that can aid and assist you in building you got to be the kind of person he can trust those people with so you got to ask yourself would god be good to the people you need if he sent the people you need to you now how good it would be good for you but would it be good to them because have you be kind have you become y'all are y'all hearing this like it's like some people i want a one friends but are you a one friend yet because if god sends a one friends to you and you are not an a1 friend god is acting unjustly in his dealings with the person that he sent to you so i gotta have patience for god to send the people to send the people watch this uh james the book of james says let patience have its perfecting work that i am matured perfected i am uh sanctified in the weight in the process patience is perfecting me and i need i gotta have patience with people it doesn't mean i'm exploited it doesn't mean i'm naive it doesn't mean that you don't place boundaries in your life but it does mean that you recognize that the people you need are in process and you're being processed so that you can properly handle the people you need because for some of you to help the people you need you can't need them the way you actually need them now you need to need them for assignment not for your ego did y'all hear what i just said right you you need to need them because we're called to partner together for the purpose of an assignment not for ego so yeah we don't need patients with people two we're gonna need patients for the promises like whatever god promised must be possessed through patience hebrews 6 12 we don't want you to become lazy but to imitate those who through faith and patience faith and patience faith and patience inherit what's been promised so it takes faith and patience to possess what's been promised but number three is where i want to lay my anchor because we not only need it with people we not only need it for the promises but we need it for our purpose this is where i want to lay my anchor we need it for our purpose here it is purpose is not just about doing some things purpose is about becoming someone watch this because having this is this i believe this part is prophetic for some of you having the gift to perform a thing is one thing having the shoulders to carry it is another and this is the word i believe for some of you right now that are watching this you're wondering what's the holdup and god is trying to get you to see your gift is bigger than your shoulders [Applause] are you listening to what i'm saying it's not that you aren't gifted it's just your shoulders are not broad enough to carry the weight of what you're trying to of what you're trying to accomplish and so if i gave you what i asked you for just based on your gift i would be giving you something that would actually end up destroying you because your shoulders are not yet broad enough to carry the weight of what you feel like god is calling you to build so instead of panicking in the midst of the process it's important to praise in the midst of the process instead of rejecting this season you need to submit to this this season because god will not promote you to the next grade until you pass this test i'ma say that one more time you're gonna keep retaking the same test in different ways in different seasons until you allow god to process and to develop you enough where your shoulders are as big as your gift [Applause] he says you can't handle what you want [Music] he says you're not ready for that that would crush you he says your schedule's crazy now you're almost you're running you're running around now and your life is rampant and out of order you can't handle more responsibility he says you have trouble he says you're having trouble saying no to things that don't matter he says how are you going to say no to things that do matter your purpose requires processing what you're trying to build big shoulders and we live in an era of gift obsession [Music] right there and we feel entitled to advancement because of the uniqueness of our gift not realizing that the gift only impresses people that didn't give it to you god doesn't accelerate his timetable because of our giftedness cause he's like i'm not impressed with what i gave you that's like me giving you a watch and being impressed that you're wearing it i gave that to you that's my watch and so when we look at our gifts and we're looking up to god saying why are not why thing why are things not happening for me the way i think they should be happening for me based on my giftedness god's like i gave you that i'm not impressed with that i'm trying to build the shoulders you need to carry what the gift is getting ready to bring into your life so here's my question how your shoulders now how many degrees you have how your shoulders not how good you are how your shoulders now how dope you are but how are your shoulders do you have shoulders broad enough to carry the weight of what god is calling you to build and even jesus even jesus understood the importance of what i'm trying to articulate because in our foundational text right here in the gospel of john he is engaged in a conversation and being encouraged and influenced by people around him who are simply y'all not are y'all listening to me who are simply assessing his gift and then assuming it's his time i'm gonna say that one more time for the people in the back if i'm teaching put teacher in the chat here it is he's surrounded by a group of people who are looking at all his gift has produced and they say now it's time jesus to let everybody know that you're the promised messiah to let everybody know that you are the seed of david the king of the jews because they're assessing his gift come on let's use some contemporary vernacular to accurately exegete this text they're gassing him up come on they're like oh you amazing oh you you're incredible nobody can do this you ought to be doing this and you ought to be doing that and you need to be doing this now but they're making their assessment externally based on their observation of his guilt and jesus model something that every jaywalker is going to have to get it's not my time yet you didn't hear what i just said he said it's not my time yeah i did the things you saw me do because it was time for that you think i got to it's like jesus is saying you think i got to do it on your timetable for it to get done it's not my time yet but i don't have anxiety hey cause my time is coming yeah yeah yeah it's it's it's it's it's jesus operating with the conviction that just because it doesn't happen in the timetable you think it's supposed to happen here doesn't mean it can't happen and i'm not going to allow it's what jesus i believe would say individuals who don't have an accurate understanding of god's plan for my life to push me into something out of season that i'm gifted to do but don't have the shoulders to carry this group that's gassing jesus up can represent people who are authentic they're just not omniscient they're authentic they're just not omniscient they mean well they're sincere and they're really for you they just don't know everything this is what i call calling confirmation bias it's when you want something internally to be true so bad and then those around you that love you confirm it and you take that confirmation and you weigh that confirmation disproportionately because you're biased toward that confirmation because that's the confirmation you want and most christians won't admit this but you've got confirmation bias so it's like you're looking for confirmation but you're really looking for confirmation for what you're biased toward you're not objective in the confirmation that you want it's like god i really don't want a answer i really want this answer and jesus would have been out of step with the right season if he has succumbed to that i can take you all through our scripture i can show i can show you when david had an opportunity to king kill saul to king to kill king saul that his friends around him that is mighty men said oh god did this oh you got opportunity this god god is giving you opportunity you you read what you saw dave he is he getting ready to read what he saw and david was objective enough to say i hear what you're saying but the word says touch not mine anointed do not lay your hand on the lord's anointed and so jesus here avoids a trap that many people fall into because we live in an era where people want to perform before they become and so the state of the body of christ and the diminishing credibility that christianity has in culture is not because there's a deficit in giftedness culture knows we can sing they know we have charismatic communicators that that can arrest the attention of a room it's not that there's a lack of giftedness the diminishing credibility is because there is an obsession with performing over becoming cause no one will wait and let god build your shoulders well i don't have time i could i could proof test this oh i could take you to the prodigal son and show you this the prodigal son luke 15 the prodigal son's like daddy give me give me give me he's like i don't want to give it to you before you got shoulders because you're gonna waste it you got it you're gonna waste it you're gonna blow it you're gonna mismanage this opportunity and when you mismanage it publicly it's not that i can't restore it's just you put me in a position where i've got to engage in multiple restorations so i not only have to restore what you lost i got to restore the people's confidence in your credibility y'all are talking to me this is so it's it's she says listen i'm i know you feel like this is taking long i'm trying to build your shoulders so you can spin this next season of your life in acceleration and not recovery you don't want to keep recovering all the time do you at some point you want to see a trajectory of advancement and growth not these cycles of progression and regression that can't happen if you let culture or people your own ambition push you into seasons you gifted for but don't have the shoulders for so here's my question i know this this is more for builders i know this is more for builders are y'all ready for this are you taking your own evolution as seriously as you are your optics would you rather be it or look it cause come on oh this this is i don't know right because i'm telling you if we put just half the amount of work into being it that we do looking at we would put we wouldn't have to put so much work into looking because people would have to only have to expose who you are not create a version of yourself that you've not yet become aren't talking to me and so because we don't have broad shoulders the context of our calling and the people that we can help with our purpose is limited to people who have little shoulders too so people with big shoulders can come to the church to get help because we keep trying to impress them with big gifts y'all and they like no i've already built something i'm carrying i'm carrying pressure i don't need your gift i need the wisdom that comes from a person that knows how to carry what i'm carrying and that only comes when a person takes the time to let god process them so that their shoulders are as big as their gift can i prove this and then sit down can i prove this and then sit down are you sure all right you're gonna need big shoulders for three reasons number one you're gonna need big shoulders because of your betrayers you need big shoulders to handle judas and not get jaded as a purpose killer see the the enemy wants to use judas not just to kill you but to make you jaded so that now come on you're side eyeing everybody because of your experience with somebody on your shoulders big enough to handle some of the knives that'll be placed in your back y'all hear me some of the stuff you're praying for right now would not not literally but emotionally it would kill you it will rob you of all your joy because you don't have because many people have no idea what else comes with what you're asking for you you can't be blessed without betrayers are your shoulders broad enough to handle that so i can't be jaded by this i'll be wiser because of this but i can't be jaded because of this it's exactly what happened to david absalon hurt him a hypothetical hurt him the purer your heart the more frequent the heart attacks he's a man after god's own heart and all most of the attacks that came to his life were heart attacks nobody could take him out physically he'd kill you with a rock but what brought him to his knees were people that he loved and were in relationship with so in psalms 55 he wrote he said man if it would have been an enemy i could have handled it but it was you absalon broke his heart but joe had joab had to come to him and say man you hate those that love you and love those that hate you he said you're so focused on epsilon this natural son that you are ignoring these mighty men your spiritual sons who have left a wife and kids because they love you so much they willing to die for you he says you are neglecting the ones that stayed because you're grieving the one that left i'm talking listen i'm talking to you i'm just talking i'm not talking dating i'm not just talking spiritually i'm talking business i'm telling you i've seen this i come from a family with entrepreneurial leanings my uncle steve was just a huge entrepreneur he was just you know one time he told me this experience he had with somebody he had known since childhood was in business with them and he sat me down one time they called me shawn he said sean man i found out she had been embezzling for me from me for years he said more than the money it broke my heart but he couldn't build what he was trying to build without partnership he didn't allow that judas experience to jade him and for some of you god's taking this time not cause he's just building stronger shoulders watch this he's building thick skin i'm out of time i'm preaching too long he's building thick skin because some of you think you had thick skin you just had scabs that's not thick skin that's a scab that wound didn't heal right it just hardened you you hardened but that skin not healthy [Music] it's not my time yet but my time is coming you need it for your betrayers you need thick shoulders number two for your barnabas barnabas is a new barnabas is a new new testament uh character that partnered with paul in ministry all right y'all ready for this barnabas is the person that is just as good at what they do as you are at what you do and a lot of people want barnabas but you're not healthy enough to handle people that's that good and so they like to surround themselves with subordinates because they're not healthy enough to handle your barnabas watch this watch this y'all because when you're in a christian culture of gift obsession and somebody is just as good at what they do as you are as what you do then the value you add to their life isn't your gift it's got to be your heart it's got to be you are you hearing what i'm saying are y'all catching this right right this is this is so many so many people so many influencers miss this when it comes to like picking a pastor or picking a mentor or a lead it's like okay a mentor yes because they're going to give you expertise in the area when it comes to like spiritual leadership or coaches or anything like that it's like no no you need somebody who might not even be greater in name than you yes they're just greater in spiritual stature their bank account doesn't have to be bigger than yours their heart just needs to be and so many people end up misguided jaded disappointed because you got close to somebody that you loved and liked but you found out a gift was bigger than their shoulders barnabas needs big hearts not just big gifts if not you become intimidated by your assets if not you won't be able to handle when you got to share credit [Music] oh this was for grown folks today you won't be able to you won't be able to manage seasons when they start saying sauce lane is thousands but david is tens of thousands you're betrayers you're barnabas i'm done number three need broad shoulders to handle your blessings listen to me your blessings are not purpose your blessings aren't even watch this i want you to catch this there are some things i'll put it this way that christian called bless blessings i want you to catch this now there are certain things that christians call blessings that are simply are y'all ready for this consolation prizes that god gives for the inconveniences associated with your assignment [Music] it's like let me just give you this to help balance out everything you're experiencing because of that right because when you really get in purpose and that thing starts balancing out you'll be like god listen i would rather not have the pain i'd rather not have the burden and have that blessing so purpose is not blessing but this is my point two things i believe exposure true character comes this in seasons when people are at they worse and in seasons where they're experiencing their best that's what's that is what exposes what's really in you like i can tell right now if somebody's like doing what they called to do if i said if you won the lottery tomorrow would you still do it because what's in you comes out when you at your worst and when you're at your best [Music] so noah when it rains for 40 days and 40 nights and when you plant a vineyard that's fruitful as a result of that will you get drunk off your own success [Music] that's what noah did i need shoulders [Music] to handle blessing lord i don't want to gain what i can lose i don't want to gain what i can't keep and lose what i can't live without [Music] your time is coming so here's the question i'm done you want to be hot or great because greatness takes time and jesus wasn't just hot jesus was great your time is coming you're a builder god just wants to build a new first so i want to pray over every person right now that's honest enough to say pastor darris i'm a little antsy i thank you for this word because it's brought clarity to me in an area where i really needed it god is building in you because he builds the builder before the builder builds and he's giving you not just great gifts you got that but broad shoulders father i thank you right now that your timing is perfect and sure that you know exactly what we need and when we need it and i thank you for your holy spirit helping us to digest messages like this that are a bit counter-cultural and can be difficult to embrace i pray the prayer that paul prayed over the church at ephesus may the eyes of your people's understanding be enlightened be open may they see that their time is coming but great things take time give us an obsession to have broad shoulders and not just just great gifts give us an obsession with who we become and not just what we do i thank you for this i thank you that you're even in the context of our church you're raising up a group of world changers who just won't be great in name who just won't be hot in terms of popularity but who will be great in spiritual stature and as you make their name great they make your name great i pray this blessing over your people everyone who's watching this message every every member of this spiritual family called change church in jesus name amen and amen i want you to write where you are i want you to prepare your heart to make a decision it's decision time
