I'm not telling you what to do I'm not telling you how to feel I'm just telling you what happened to me I was in court Cleveland Heights Ohio my mother happened to be in the courtroom I was sentencing some guy on a domestic violence charge and I made sure that he was clear about the nature of his his wrongdoing I told him about how dare he hit the woman that he promised to care for and cherish I gave him what another friend of mine calls the you know judicial acid rain dance and afterwards my mother came back into the chambers to talk to me and she said let me tell you what you did wrong out there out there now my mother is known for giving you a right hook of knowledge rock your head back I spent my entire youth for years doing like that this is what she told me she said you know that man is going to jail thinking about that he hit and that other that sent it yelled at him and sent him to jail you did not help her you felt good in the moment but you didn't do anything the point that she was trying to make is this if somebody if you're trying to convince somebody who doesn't share your point of view I learn your point of view at them will not help you have to start where they are and slowly walk them home that's what she said so I changed how I sentenced people I talked to them first see where I can get a hook in she was upsetting you wasn't she you got it anxious you got agitated now let me tell you where you went wrong and why you're going to jail did I change the world no but I did manage not to do as much damage as I was doing before I figured that part out like I said I'm telling you what to do I'm not telling you how to feel I'm just telling you what happened to me
