how are you doing guys hey I'm doing something new today and I decided to bring the camera along I've got a got my dump trailer behind me with scrap metal in it so I've got a little car frame the front clip you probably can't see back there but I've got the remainder of the front clip from the from the Chevy Equinox oh that rebuilt for my daughter I've got some other scrap metal got a catalytic converter or some aluminum some copper and kind of some miscellaneous it's a miscellaneous stuff so I need to get rid of this car frame anyway so I decided I'm gonna make a trip to the metal recycler and see how this process goes I really don't know what to expect or I don't expect to really actually make a lot of money doing this because I don't have a ton of weight more than anything I need to get rid of it but it's gonna be kind interesting to see how the process works and how they separate the different metals and that sort of thing so like I said decided to bring the camera along and kinda show you guys I'm sure there's other people out there too who have wondered about recycle and scrap and have never done it so I'll show you how it works here in Des Moines you know we've got metal everywhere scrap metal the way this is set up you come over here to this warehouse and it looks like this is where we drop off our non-ferrous stuff so our aluminium brass copper and the appliances go over here so I'm gonna go back here and talk to these guys and pull out my non-ferrous stuff and then I guess we go and drop off all the all the car parts and the ferrous metal somewhere else all right so here's how this works you bring it in here dump it and they get a bunch of bins and you separate your metal out I got my aluminum and the copper in that one I've got this catalytic converter I need to ask him about it I guess they were gonna take it off and weigh it I suppose they give me a receipt or something and tell me how much I have and then I'll take it to the office and I get all this stuff in here this car frame and miscellaneous steel stuff in there but I'll take the dump so that'll be the next step wait the circus out here so what they're doing is they take these metal containers they bring them over there that one the far distance over there sitting on the scale is mine and they weigh it and that guy over there goes through to see this see if it's clean or dirty or or what it is and I guess he prices it out but this place is kind of insanity this guy over here he's going nuts with loading the truck with the appliances scooping them up and throwing them in that big semi [Music] okay so we just got done over here in the non-ferrous area I don't you probably gonna read that but basically 138 bucks and honestly my biggest concern was the catalytic converter because I know there's a lot of value on those and it looks like they gave me $120 which actually I think is really fair I was I was hoping they might give me 100 and I got 120 so that's cool I'm good with that so now I got to figure out where we're going you could go back to where I came in and I'll find a scale for steel and I think I come over here and dumped it I think I weigh and then I think I'm gonna come over here to this big junk pile here and dump it and come back around but this place is chaos I have feeling I'm about the only one who doesn't know where they're going alright we'll see what we can find a scale here all right so we got in line I'm about to pull up to the scale here two away from my car frame and parts hopefully somebody's gonna tell me where to dump this stuff I think there's a guy working in the booth here or not tells me where to stop oh you got a sign red pile hey doing that all the junks difficut ah what title or a jumping certificate how old is the car do you know the year 2019 19 no no that's an 18 this might that the clip is 8 to 18 yeah 18 so I will need the title or a jumping certificate it's not little enough for me to do tape work here how do I get a junkie mr. Jeff this I don't have a title cuz I bought it as a clip from yeah take that pin you take pictures of it you go down to the d-o-t or the DMV downtown I think that's where they get them so hey I got this they'll do a bunch of paperwork make sure you submit I got the door they'll send you to the police station for paperwork like that it's a painting and all that tear it of to 200 pounds of nothing yep all because there's a big number and I might I might take a half I might take a hacksaw to it and put it out in the trash overtime so I get a sawzall 80 vehicle from pretty much here yeah I did not know that and obviously I was hoping it was the ass and then I saw the front of it our boss yeah first time I don't know if I get out of another building and then I got to come over to you I had some non ferrous stuff right yeah okay watch the big over here comes okay gotcha thank you okay so that is not in the news that I wanted to hear did not know this but apparently since it's the front end of a vehicle I have to have a junking certificate which I don't know I got a contact the d-o-t and then I go to a police department and get some paperwork and yada yada yada I had no idea so that sucks and I guess I'm gonna pull over here and I'll cash in my little bit that I have for my non-ferrous stuff and I guess I gotta figure out a junking certificate in that room and I take a sawzall of this thing and I'll just start sawing it into pieces and slowly put it out in the trash might be my better alternative I don't know but anyway we go in and cash in for what I can hear I guess well that's it so I got a check for 100 and see that 138 bucks so let's alter the metal recycling is where I'm at so it's gonna give you an idea so it looks like the aluminum ten cents a pound radiator ten cents a pound that was a I don't know what it is copper number two copper dollar fifty pounds pretty good and then $120 for the for the catalytic converter and like I said that was kind of my biggest concerns so I don't know I gotta figure out the scrap certificate thing it's really kind of a pink sand I got this stupid cart clip sitting on my dump trailer and I'm seriously thinking about taking a sawzall cutting into pieces and just getting rid of it because I have a feeling there's probably a little bit that's a little bit of weight that's on that front clip there I mean I can't imagine there's more than I don't know 300 pounds maybe something like that and I don't know what the price of scrap metal is but my guess is it's you know pennies a pound so so yeah I don't know we'll see anyway I guess it lesson learned I know now next time I oh crap I miss my turn I gotta go go away but anyway lesson learned now next time I'll know better and at least I kind of have a feeling for the process but actually some of that I throw away lots of copper over the years remodeling houses I generally don't really mess with it I just tear it out and throw it away and I can see why guys actually like scrap copper because there's some value there it was I had hardly anything a few little bits of half-inch copper pipe and I think it was nine dollars actually what I got so I could see how that could add up and actually would be worth it but anyway I guess that's it for the video guys just thought I'd take you along for that little adventure if you're ever interested in recycling or scrapping metal if you get some non-ferrous stuff I think maybe it's worth it if you got time some extra time I'm not sure that I have a lot of extra time to do this very often but maybe I'll start making a pile and back to my shop and when I get a little bit I'll bring it in but appreciate you guys watching you enjoyed that subscribe to my channel I'll bring you some more cool videos and talk to you soon thanks guys
