My final piece!

well folks my 12we furniture making Odyssey down at the boat building Academy in Lime reges is now over and I am back at home complete with all the things I've been making over the last few weeks and months my goodness me it started very simply learning the basics of fine cabinet making and some Elementary joints and then the pressure and the challenges really ramped up you may recall I showed you this lovely little Ash steam vent table that was an absolute Joy To Me we then moved on to this a far more complicated proposition a lovely Chestnut miniature Shaker cabinet the basis of course of most furniture that you'll see certainly the basis of most kitchens and then I set about designing this my outdoor chair a chair that I hope would reflect the best of British Traditions cope with the worst of British weather and feel very at home in The Best of British homes be they in the town or indeed is here in the countryside might even Grace the deck of the Queen Mary who knows well this was the Prototype this was the model 1th scale but now I can show you the real thing you may recall I went over to Whitney Sawmills in the Y Valley just a few miles from here to Source the oak all the furniture we made on the course was sourced from native British Hardwoods from sustainable sources and this is what I've turned it into here is the finished article and I could not be happier I absolutely love the shape this what I christened a sweet rail that just brings everything together and offers a rather slouchy I hope inviting sense that you want to just get into this chair but the detail I'm really proud of is this this woven La panel supported with these lovely copper pipes which I hope really distinguishes it but also gives it a sense of pedigree I sense that this was a chair you might have enjoyed in the 1920s or 30s and under the cushion here the seat rails supported by copper boat rivets a little nod to the boat building Traditions I discovered down in Lime reges but wow what a life affirming 3 months it has been making makes me happy as I've often said and I absolutely know that for sure now this is just the beginning I'm going to be sharing everything else I go on to make with you uh through my social media if you've got any ideas any special requests any commissions do let me know but I have to say having seen this through from beginning to end and created something absolutely original I could not be happier to see it back at home and well it feels at home and it's good to be back
