sometimes you got to work but you want to travel sometimes you have to travel but you want to work today we're talking travel Tech but more specifically the tech you need to get your work done away from home or away from the office everyone's work is different so it's not going to be everything you need specifically but I picked out a handful of my favorites with cables data storage internet batteries backpacks that sort of thing so without any further Ado let's get into the first category of cables cables are really often overlooked and honestly a little bit boring at times but I've got a handful of my fa faes that I wanted to talk about uh first up we've got the mag tame which are magnetic USBC cables the mag tame cables are just pretty straightforward USBC cables but they're able to roll themselves back up with magnets built into the braided cable itself they have a handful of different options with uh 60 ws and 240 W Thunderbolt cables they have a variety of different lengths the braiding that they use seems really high quality it's held up really well for me for the past several months uh all in all one of my newer favorites an old classic though is the inch charge XL this one is a little unique and special because it's a 5 in1 or sixin one cable so on one side you have usba a or USBC and then on the other side you have a lightning SL micro USB or you can flip that out into a USBC I usually like to try and pack kind of a catch all cable because I do have a few Legacy micro USB items and I have an iPhone 14 that still uses lightning I was really hesitant at first with the durability of this you know and I have seen some mixed things but a couple years of really heavy use uh this normally lives you know on my little table behind me here and I pack it for every single trip it's been really great to have a backup micro USB cable that I can still use as a USBC cable most of the time lastly this one's technically not available anymore but it's kind of a generic white label item uh this is just a regular old braided USBC cable that has a built-in display that shows the rate of charge it's really nice to have the confirmation of charging speed for different devices if you're unsure if you're using a new charging brick or battery or something all three of these cables kind of bring something unique to the table and are three of my go-tos whenever I'm traveling our next item up on the list is the moff flip laptop phone mount been a huge fan of the mof invisible tripod for some time now mof was kind enough to partner with me on this week's video and I'm really happy to be checking out a few of their other items this flip phone mount immediately caught my eye though it allows to attach your phone via mag safe onto your laptop which opens up a ton of really fun possibilities the obvious one for me was using your phone camera for continuity calls via Macos any way to easily increase your video quality without a ton of extra steps involved is always welcomed aside from that though it's been really great to use kind of as a laptop screen extension of sorts I'm very spoiled when I'm home with screen real estate working on a 42in OLED things always get a bit tight when I'm away from my desk being able to have my phone in view to watch YouTube or listen to Spotify when I'm working or having an entirely separate call on my phone while still having access to my full screen and computer is extremely satisfying and much less cumbersome than bringing a whole secondary display or something like that it attaches with an adhesive on your laptop and folds completely flat when not in use they also have an adhesive magnetic ring available separately if you want to use it with an Android phone or an older iPhone one other quick bonus item as well I've been testing and using their laptop carry sleeve and it's been great it's a 3-in-1 design that obviously can carry your laptop around but also doubles as an angled stand if you want better ergonomics for your mobile setup it's adjustable to 15 and 25° has a built-in neoprene storage pocket for any peripherals or charger stuff like this is really great if you're only traveling with one bag and you want to be able to leave that bag at your hotel room or something and go out to a coffee shop and get some work done it's also always nice to have some extra protection and reassurances that your laptop is safe if the interior bag sleeve doesn't have a ton of extra padding be sure to check both of these out I've got links in the description down below huge thanks again to mof for partnering with me on this week's video we've got batteries up next I've got three different options that all kind of offer different things all of which are a little bit higher output to be able to handle laptops and more substantial things aside from your phone first up is the ohigh Starship this is the largest capacity of the three comes in at 40,000 milliamp hours their big differentiator with their marketing materials is that this can double as a proper power bank when you're traveling kind of a nice touch you're not always technically allowed to do that sort of pass through charging you have three USB C ports in total that can all handle 140 Watts you have a USBC in on one side hence the power bank side and on the other side you have two USBC outs that both offer 140 Watts one thing I want to do make sure and make note of it is 144 wat hour so this is technically past the capacity limits for airline travel so this would be really good if you're someone that's going more like road trip Adventures Outdoors z type of things really big capacity really high output from the USBC ports and definitely a pretty compact size for this capacity of battery uh next up kind of the opposite direction this is the Omni charge 20 plus uh this is only a 20,000 milliamp hour battery but this thing really shines compared to most everything else I've tried in the io and what it offers you have a full 100 wat AC plug as well as a 100 wat DC Port you have a 60 W USBC cable and two 18w usba a ports and then on the top you actually have a wireless charger that gets up to 10 watts so this is a really good option if you have some kind of funkier type of stuff that you need to keep charged while you're out and about personally I just really love having a wireless charger that's completely Wireless in itself so I can set this on the desk next to me and charge my phone wirelessly makes for a really clean setup if you're trying to minimize cables when you're working at a coffee shop or in some sort of really tight space it's only 20,000 milliamp hours though by comparison uh 71 wat hours so definitely plenty safe for travel it's a little bit more expensive but you do get that really specific IO that no one else is really offering uh last up on the list is kind of the simple Best of Both Worlds type of option this one's from ankor it's the Anker Prime power bank it's 27,600 milliamp hour so a little bit more than the Omni charge but still just under that 100 wat hour limit for airline travel I think it's 99.5 W hours this has 240 W USBC ports and 165 wat USB a port apparently it'll do a Max output of 250 Watts but you can run that full 140 Watts for you know a 16-in Macbook or something like that directly out of there relatively straightforward they do have a little charging base available for this one as well these are three of my favorites right now all three of them offer something a little bit different depending on what you need I think one of these should be great for your setup next up is a category I've been wanting to get into for a long time this is the gl. inet Slate ax travel router I was pretty late to the party learning about these and have been wanting to check one out for some time I've been really impressed something like this is definitely making it into my travel bag from here on out it's Wi-Fi 6 compatible which doesn't seem super common with these little tiny routers you know I would love to see a 6E compatible or even a Wi-Fi 7 compatible one but six is generally going to be enough for most people it can operate in a few different ways it works as a Wi-Fi repeater if you want to pick up an existing public Wi-Fi signal you can plug in with ethernet directly into the wport or you can can actually use the USBC Port here and use a mobile hotspot directly from your phone and have this transmit that around to your other devices if you're not familiar with travel routers kind of as an idea essentially this just allows you to have your own little Network wherever you go so if you get annoyed by having to you know log in with all those onepage things on all your devices or maybe you're trying to connect to Wi-Fi on a device that doesn't let you pull up those pages like a Roku or that new uh PlayStation Portable this circumvents all that you connect the public Wi-Fi to this and this serves all of your devices so no more having to worry about finding logins and passwords and checking boxes and all that you know it's just handled on one single device and it can transmit to everything else that you have with you it's powered via USBC like I said you have a usba a port here if you want to plug in a mobile hotspot you can also plug in an external hard drive if you want to do any file sharing then you have three different ethernet ports one Wan and two Lan ports uh the WAN Port can actually be configured into a third land port if you want to use it that way through the software built in love the idea of a travel router in general and really impressed with this one overall I think this is one of their higher tier models available you have these nice retractable antennas on here very compact small size you know about the size of a power bank or something easy to throw in your pack and that way you don't have to fuss around if you're bringing you know four five six different devices that need to connect to public Wi-Fi next up we've got data storage this is the Samsung T9 SSD I've been using the Samsung tseries drives for almost a decade now and they have never let me down this is the newest one the T9 I have the 4 terb model here but they have one two or 4 terab options available it uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 so theoretically it can read and write up to 2,000 megabytes a second unfortunately MacBooks don't support that so I've haven't been able to test it personally um with this on a MacBook though you usually get around 900 megabytes a second read and write which is still plenty fast for my needs even with you know multistream 4K video editing on the note of MacBook since you're not going to be getting the full speed if you can find a cheaper t7 model you're going to get the same exact speeds on that so I'd recommend saving some cash I picked this up during a holiday sale or something and it was discounted down to be at or below the price of the t7 so that's why I went with it and hopefully to Future proof at some point down the road but t7 will do you just fine if you're on a MacBook and potentially would save you a bit of money you have a rubberized exterior on this one kind of similar the t7 rugged you have 3 m of drop resistance uh just really straightforward USBC uh you can actually plug this directly into your iPhone if you have the 15 and want you know prores storage if you're doing a ton of different video one of these days I'll look at some alternative options but the t- series from Samsung almost a decade of use for me and they've been completely perfect got a couple of backpacks I wanted to touch on first up we've got the everg goods CPL 24 L there are a ton of good backpacks out here for this I've reviewed quite a few over the years so check those out check other channels out uh the two that I'm going to talk about next though have been kind of daily use ones for me for past 6 months or so and I really like them just for very different reasons quick rundown of the CPL 24 ler here though it comes in just over 3 lbs in weight it uses an 840d ballistic nylon shell with a 420d nylon lining on the interior it's dwr coded you have YKK Zips you have really good shoulder strap padding in here it's soft enough to be comfortable but firm enough to know it's not going to break down pretty much immediately the design though is just really nice and straightforward and simple on the very back you have a separate laptop sleeve compartment area on the front you have a nice big quick access pouch with a little bit of organization you also have another quick access pouch on the top here which is really big and definitely room for like sunglasses phone that sort of thing but the interior it's essentially just a big 3D Shell so it can really house a lot here depending on what you need so this would work really well as a travel bag as much as like a tech bag or a daily type of bag really versatile in the way that it's designed and laid out you have one almost laptop pouch on the interior here probably meant to be like a document or iPad type of sleeve on the front side you have two different zipper Pockets one large one that runs the entire side and then a nice separate top one here for those like smaller type of items just overall build quality and polish here is great I love stuff like this that's just extremely simple I'll probably make a separate video with some longer term thoughts but I know this one's super super popular so I'm sure there are a ton of videos out there uh check it out I've been very happy with it as an alternative if you don't need to carry quite as much if you're just running over for your mobile workstation to the coffee shop or if you have a 14-inch laptop or no laptop at all if you're running an iPad setup uh the able carry 13-day bag has been another huge favor of mine this one's a little bit too small for me in this specific context I have a 16-inch laptop this will only hold up to a 14-inch laptop but as a daily bag I've been using it whenever I don't need the extra space from the CPL 24 comes in at 13 L hence the name it's 1.5 lbs for the weight uses an X42 Olive XEX shell that's dwr coded mentioned earlier it holds up to a 14inch laptop but this would be really good you know if you're running an iPad setup or just need a quick throw around bag to get around the city or a personal item bag for the airport for being so small there's a ton of organization and it really fits a lot more than you think think it should aside from the main compartment you have three separate external Pockets you have one quick access pouch that kind of runs across diagonally here you have a separate one that's not actually zipped up at all you could probably use as a water bottle holder for the external if you wanted and then on the back side you kind of have a small like security type of pocket if you want to put your wallet and keys in there interior is pretty simple you have two stretch pockets on the sides so old water bottles or an umbrella something like that you have your main laptop sleeve you have a secondary sleeve for document iPad something like that then you have a zipper pocket on the opposite side on the top for those type of smaller items uh tons of organization for such a tiny little bag I think it's laid out really well I love how it carries you know the smaller size I think would be good if you have a smaller frame as well uh but I just really like using this around town as sort of a day bag when a sling is just not quite enough but a big full-fledged bag is a little too much or personal item on a plane this would really work well for that too one last bonus item want to throw in uh always make sure you know pop a Tracker into your bags if you're carrying around all this expensive Tech you want to be able to track it if it gets stolen uh air tags obviously if you're an Apple user work great for me always good to have a better idea of where your stuff is in case you misplace it or get stolen that's going to wrap it up for today's video though you know shorter simpler one after last two weeks having some giant videos uh thank you all so much for watching though I'd love to hear if you have any like specific gear for work work while you're away from home whether it be traveling you know down the road at a coffee shop something like that what have you been easing that you can't live without I'd love to hear it down in the comments below thanks again though and I'll talk to you in the next [Music] one
