i saw tony standing in the cafeteria with a group of his friends he had been my secret crush for as long as i could remember my heart was beating so fast at the thought of what i was about to do i stood there watching him for what seemed like an eternity trying to pluck up the courage to go and speak to him his friend said goodbye to him and left this was my chance it was now or never i took a deep breath and walked casually over to him as i got near to him he looked up and smiled at me hi tony i said my voice was wobbling nervously oh hi francisca he replied how are you i'm i'm good i went into town there was only one shop selling prom dresses so we wanted to get there early to have the first choice i looked through the rows and rows of dresses they were all lovely and pretty but i wanted something really special as i searched through i suddenly spotted the perfect dress it was emerald green with diamente sewn all down the front this is the one i told liz i'm gonna go try it on i went into the changing room and put it on it fit me like a glove when i came out to show liz she gasped what do you think i asked her oh francisca you look beautiful the assistant took the dress for me whilst i changed back into my own clothes i went over to the desk i'll take it i told her oh i'm sorry that dress has just been sold what how can it be i just this minute tried it on who bought it that girl over there she said pointing to the other side of the shop i looked to where she was pointing i couldn't believe it it was sarah she had obviously followed me and waited to see which dress i wanted so she could steal it from under my nose she looked so smug i felt like crying but liz came to my rescue come on francesca don't let her see that you're bothered or she will gloat even more we will find you another dress i tried on lots more dresses and eventually settled on a pale pink dress with lots of lace it wasn't as perfect as the other dress but i still felt pretty in it the day of the prom finally arrived in the afternoon my mom had taken me to the salon to get my hair and makeup done i was sitting nervously in the lounge when i heard a car pull up i looked out of the window and saw a limousine parked in front of my house i put my mask on and walked outside oh i also forgot to mention it wasn't just an ordinary prompt it was more of a masquerade party and everyone had to put on a mask as part of the fun tony was waiting beside the car door he looked so handsome well at least the bits i could see of him did his mask was hiding in most of his features that was the thing about a masquerade problem you could never really see someone properly tony pinned the corsage he had brought for me onto my dress we climbed into the limousine and set off for the prom i had never felt happier in my life i was going to my prom with the boy of my dreams when we arrived at prom i looked around the room to see where sarah was i was sure she was trying to ruin my night so i wanted to keep an eye on her but i couldn't see her anywhere don't tell me she hasn't even bothered to come i thought but apparently that was the case she had obviously no intention of wearing the dress she had bought she had just done it to spite me i decided i wasn't going to give her another thought i turned to tony shall we get a drink i asked him oh i've already got one thanks he said i felt a bit disappointed that he hadn't got a drink for me too but i didn't let him see i went and grabbed her lemonade but when i got back tony was talking to a girl in a red dress when i walked over to them the girl left who was that i asked tony oh no one he replied but look how pretty her dress is why didn't you get a dress like that it's much nicer than the one you're wearing i couldn't understand why tony was being such a jerk he would never normally be mean to me i wondered if i had completely got him wrong the final straw came when i came back from the toilet and saw him dancing with the girl in the red dress i wasn't going to stick around to watch him flirting with another girl i made up an excuse to list that i wasn't feeling well and went straight home the next day at school i looked for tony i wondered if he would apologize for his behavior the night before but he was nowhere to be seen he didn't come to school that day or the rest of the week i didn't really care at first but then i began to think it was a bit strange he never normally missed any school i decided that i would go to his house to see if he was okay i knew that i shouldn't really bother about him after the way he had treated me at prom but i couldn't help it i still cared about him after school i went straight to tony's house when i got there his mom opened the door oh hello francisca she said smiling what can i do for you i've just come to see if tony is okay because he hasn't been at school all week tony's mom looked at me worriedly what do you mean he hasn't been in school she asked she told me that he was staying at her house for a few days ever since the prom but she assured me he was still going to school who did sarah i told tony's parents that it couldn't possibly be true tony didn't like sarah at all i knew that there was no way he would possibly spend a week at her house there's something not quite right here said tony's dad i think we'd better go and find him i'll take you to sarah's house i told them we got into tony's parents car and drove straight to sarah's house i knocked on the door loudly sarah opened the door but when she saw it was me standing there she tried to slam the door shut i stuck my foot into the doorway so she couldn't close the door what do you want she spat out where's tony what have you done with him what are you talking about i haven't done anything we pushed past sarah and went into the lounge tony was sitting on the couch watching a movie are you okay i asked him what has she done to you tony looked up i'm fine he said mom dad what are you doing here franziska thought you might be in trouble they said tony looked a little confused come on son we're taking you home said tony's dad in the car on the way home tony was very quiet he didn't say a word he just sat staring out of the car window it was like he was in some kind of trance they dropped me home as i got out of the car i said goodbye to tony but he didn't answer me the next day i couldn't stop thinking about what had happened the night before tony had acted so strangely i decided i would go to his house to see if he was okay when i got there tony opened the door he invited me into the kitchen and made me a drink he was acting as if nothing had ever happened he was kind and considerate he was back to his usual self i couldn't understand why he had acted so differently to me at the prom why were you so mean to me at the prom i asked him you said my dress wasn't nice and you danced with another girl right in front of me tony looked at me in shock i didn't go to the prom i thought it had been canceled why would you think that actually i can't remember my memory from around that time is a little fuzzy i think sarah might have something to do with it i told tony that i thought we should go and confront sarah he agreed with me so we went straight to her house when we got there i didn't bother knocking i just opened the door and went straight into her house sarah was sitting on the couch talking to a boy the boy looked familiar i couldn't place him but i felt sure that i had seen him somewhere before that guy looks just like you tony i whispered to tony what's going on could this be the guy i went to prom with i thought suddenly come on sarah i said the game is up we know you had something to do with this we want to know what has been going on at first sarah denied knowing anything but we kept on pressuring her until finally she said fine okay i admit it it was me i hired mark to impersonate tony and take you to the prom but how did you get tony out of the way i asked i told him that the prom was canceled and i was having a party for everyone at my house instead but surely he was suspicious when he was the only one here i said oh it was easy to deal with that i slipped a sedative into his drink when he wasn't looking as long as i kept him sedated he wasn't worried at all about spending a few days at my house so that explains why he was so quiet on the night that we had found him i thought i looked at her in disbelief you're crazy i screamed who would do something like that why do you want to ruin my life because tony should be with me not you she cried but then mark the look-alike turned to sarah and said wait what i thought you liked me i only agreed to help you because i thought you would date me if i did sarah looked at mark blushing i didn't know you liked me she said shyly i've had a crush on you since the first moment i said eyes on you said mark i turned to sarah this view just gone on for too long i don't want to fight with you anymore can we just be friends sarah is blushing a lot now and she looked from mark to me then back to mark fine she mumbled we agreed to reconcile things had turned out perfectly in the end sarah started dating mark and it wasn't long before they became serious i might have missed out on my dream prom with tony but i ended up with something even better tony asked me to be his girlfriend the four of us even went out on double dates together
