i realized every time i laugh one of these moves like [Music] hello everybody my name is toolbe today i'm going to be doing a college decision reveal even though i've already revealed it on my instagram i really wasn't planning on doing one of these for a long time just because i thought everyone knew where i was going and then i got like three comments just in the last week saying oh you should do a college decision reveal and since i haven't uploaded anything about college yet because we don't start until september i figured why not do a decision very very late i realize i am going to be explaining a little bit about why i applied to each college and as i go along i'll be explaining to you why i didn't choose to attend each college and then why i chose to attend my final one at the end before we get started i just want to say that the decision this year was really really tough especially because i couldn't go see any schools in person after admissions decisions came out because of corona so a lot of these schools i haven't visited in person and a lot of the schools that were in my top choices i never got to visit and obviously i don't have like the full picture of every school because everything's online nothing's in person and my decisions are just totally based on online research and what i found and just what i thought fit for me so if i say anything like negative about a college don't take it like personally or don't take it as i do not like that college all of the colleges that i applied to i really do like but i can just see myself at some more than others so i'm going to start with the first college that i didn't choose to attend which was stetson so i applied to stetson because it was my one in-state school out of all the schools in florida stetson was definitely my favorite but i really didn't want to stay in state i i've lived in florida my entire life and i think that a big thing is just getting away from the area that i lived in also stetson was one of my safety schools i did like stetson i just really can't see myself there i can't see myself going any farther south than i already am so the next school that i eliminated was alabama and i applied to alabama because both my parents went there if i was gonna go to a state school it's definitely the one i would go to i grew up going to football games there going to just events me and my grandparents and my family all watch alabama football i'll be an alabama football fan until the day i die it just isn't the place for me uh it's huge first of all um and i definitely don't want to go to that big of a school which is partially why i didn't apply to a lot of state schools for a lot of the same reasons as stetson i couldn't see myself going there it's really close to home and i just want to experience something new and something different and i feel like a lot of my upbringing has been alabama i've gone to the football games i've done a lot of stuff there and so in college i'm just looking to experience something new so the next school that i eliminated was northwestern i really did like northwestern but it was more of my parents decision to apply than it was mine i knew i had a lot of schools that i liked more um that's not to say i didn't like northwestern i really did it wasn't the school for me i know they're really good in all different areas and a very well-rounded college so that's sort of why i applied it was a really tough decision and at this point it was just narrowing down where i could see myself being and i really never had a super super strong attachment to northwestern northwestern really is such a great school i just couldn't see myself going there and i had other schools that i liked a lot more i would not be sad to go there at all i just it was never really my very top choice and so i knew that when i got into other schools that it wouldn't be the place that i went okay so the next school that i eliminated was vanderville so after i applied to vanderbilt i actually went up and toured there and it was really really beautiful it just wasn't the place for me and i was actually really fortunate to get to tour it before corona and everything hit so i toured it early 2020 and it was really somewhere that i really really did consider i just went there and i didn't feel like that's where i wanted to end up again it's it's very far south it's super hard to explain once you get to such a high caliber of schools because i would be happy honestly going to any one of these schools they're all amazing places i just had places that i felt like i fit better and i liked a little bit more really for a long time vanderbilt was one of my top choices and then i toured and it just didn't maybe live up to the height that i kind of imagined in my head it's beautiful it's an amazing school it just wasn't the right fit for me and i know a ton of people talk about that it just everything clicks and you know when you tour a school either this is where i want to be or this is not it wasn't for me the environment just didn't seem like something that i was absolutely in love with again nothing stood out inherently wrong it was not wrong it was just not where i wanted to go alright so after this the next school that i eliminated was cornell i applied to cornell kind of on a whim and it was again never really one that i had a super strong attachment to solely because it was such a big school i'm not looking for as big of a school as cornell is and that was one of the reasons that i didn't choose to go there i feel like i get like swallowed whole uh on that campus especially in new york and i just had schools that i liked more it's at this point it's it's splitting hairs it's really all amazing schools so the next school that i eliminated was notre dame someone says i'm saying notre dame wrong i don't know how you say it that's how everyone where i grew up says it again i'm from the south maybe i'm wrong i know someone that went there and they say notre dame am i saying it wrong i won't say it anymore because i feel like i'm saying it wrong i really really like the research programs um and i really liked the school but i just never got a chance to visit it so i never really had it concrete in my mind if that was the place where i wanted to end up so i guess it just got me that i was so unsure if i liked the school or not that i couldn't fully commit to going there if that makes sense i really wish i had the opportunity to tour there i thought i would be able to do it after i knew whether i got accepted or not and then corona hit and kind of messed everything up so i just feel like the lack of being able to tour there didn't really let me know if that's somewhere that i would have fit in or not and so it made my decision really tough i just didn't want to take the gamble not knowing anything about the school and never being there in person i really do wish that i had been able to see the school in person because i loved their research programs and i really liked the campus just when i saw pictures of it online so it was just an unfortunate situation so we're down to the top four and after this i had to eliminate duke which absolutely broke my heart i loved duke i did duke tip growing up and it was one of my absolute favorite things to do if you have the opportunity to participate in duke tip it is amazing i would 100 recommend it gave me such a good background and stem and everything for the longest time in middle school when i was doing the program i thought duke was my absolute dream school um with that being said it was just edged out by schools that i liked a little bit more there was absolutely nothing wrong with the school i adored duke for a solid five or six years it was such an amazing place to me and i loved it so much i would be so happy going to duke but it is not where i chose in the very end so when i finally narrowed down my decisions these were my final three it was a really really tough decision from this point uh these were definitely some of my absolute favorite schools that i applied to and i felt so lucky to have gotten into all three really all of these schools i was so amazed and shocked that i got into as many as i did and i felt so fortunate that i had such a good college applications process the next one that i had to eliminate was colombia i did love colombia and it was one of my favorite schools but i just couldn't see myself at school in new york city and that was really the single eliminating factor because i loved both stanford and dartmouth so much as well i'm not a super super big city person so going to school in somewhere so hectic i just felt like it would be so distracting for me and it just wouldn't be the environment best for me to learn and i kind of need more of a closed-off space a bubble and i feel like both stanford and dartmouth are known for their bubble-ish environments and that's something that i liked a little bit more than colombia so just based on the fact that it wouldn't be the best place for me to learn and i might get a little distracted i guess in such a big city and such a really cool city though um just not for me educationally so i loved columbia it just wasn't where i picked and the very end so down to my top two after admissions decisions came out i loved both of these schools i thought they were both amazing and i would be so so happy to go to either of them i was shocked that i got into either and even more shocked that i got into both and so it was such a tough call between these two schools so before i reveal which one i went to i'm just going to quickly go through some pros and cons i had for both of them so for dartmouth i really loved the environment i was in in every season except winter i live in the south so going to hanover would be such a change both of the schools are really really far away from where i live so either of them would be such a change in environment for me which i like but for dartmouth it was a little bit of a negative because it is freezing there and that is not something i am used to at all but i do love that stanford is in a bubble so the fact that it is in hanover is really nice to me because while it might be a negative for some people i kind of like that isolated aspect of being in a school like dartmouth because i feel like it's not as many distractions i really will grow close to all of my friends because we don't really have a whole lot of other places to go and i like that so many of their students live on campus that was one of my favorite things about dartmouth is that almost all of their students live on campus for four years that's definitely my plan to live on campus applying to colleges i never saw myself getting an apartment so a school that had a very high rate of students living on campus was one of my priorities i loved dartmouth's housing system and i loved that i would be in my own little bubble i feel like the academics of both of these schools are self-explanatory if i went to either of these schools i would get such an amazing education either of them would be so amazing and what i planned on majoring which was neuroscience on a pre-med track i know both of these schools are super strong in that field on to stanford i really loved stanford's campus environment it was gorgeous and i really liked the location the palo alto standard has its little thing called the stanford bubble that everyone kind of stays on campus and interacts and you don't really go off campus a lot but i did like that if you do go off campus there is san francisco right by stanford which would be nice because it's super easy access with an airport and things like that and that just makes everything so so much easier one of my negatives about stanford was just the sheer population of computer science people there no hate at all but i just felt like it was so crazy that like half of the school does computer science and obviously that's not what i want to major in so i was a little bit worried that almost that computer science e-culture like of silicon valley would be pushed on me um and i really hoped that that wasn't really a thing or that wouldn't happen but i absolutely adored stanford and i thought it was such an amazing place to go a slight negative for stanford was the size of the campus well it is amazing that they have a large campus i heard you have to bike everywhere which i can bike it just doesn't sound too terribly fun biking with a backpack on your back um especially in california and kind of hot weather but that's another thing that i loved about dartmouth was that the campus is small and compact but a negative about dartmouth was that the student body is so so small i really loved the size of stanford and i didn't love the size of stanford campus but i liked the size of dartmouth's campus and i didn't like the size of their student body so those are kind of two things that i had to balance when making my final decision i did love stanford's program in human biology which was a really cool way of them kind of having a pre-med major without designating it as only pre-med but you could also go into so many other things because human biology isn't only for people who want to be doctors or nurses or anything like that i thought that was a really really neat program so with all of that being said about my final two schools all of the pros and cons my final decision was that i in the fall am going to stanford in just a few weeks i will be starting classes at stanford university as a freshman which is so so exciting i say classes at stanford we're actually online which is a little bit disappointing but i am nonetheless so excited to be going to stanford i know it is such an honor and such a privilege to be going to a school like stanford it is amazing that i got in i'm still kind of in shock if you didn't notice from my college reactions video i was wow i did not think i would get in it was such a reach school for me and so the fact that i'm going there is such a dream it's so amazing i cannot wait to be on campus hopefully in the winter if not maybe next spring i just can't wait to meet all the amazing people that go to stanford and have so many crazy cool opportunities that i never thought i would have in college it was a really really tough decision but honestly i could not be happier with where i chose i think stanford's reputation speaks for itself and i'm so excited to be a part of that student body it's gonna be such an amazing experience do you like do you eat it i don't watch these videos like i know a ton of people like watch them and love them and that's kind of why i'm making them but i was more of a college decision reactions person i loved those do you are you supposed to i'll eat it i'm hungry they're not great i made these this morning they're gluten free and they're they're fine a little disappointing but it's okay thank you so much for watching if you want to see any more of my journey at stanford please subscribe i will be uploading videos weekly on my life in online classes this fall and hopefully moving in and in person classes later on in 2021 hopefully soon i'll be uploading my first week of online classes which
