on March 2nd 2015 the Japanese battleship Musashi was discovered on the sea floor of the Cebu Yangtze by a research team led by Paul G Allen this is footage captured by motor yacht octopuses remotely operated vehicle here you see the bow pipe which was used in towing operations this is the bow stem you can see it is crushed at the bottom due to the implosion of the watertight compartments the implosion occurred when the bow sank very quickly this is one of two holes left in Musashi's bow caused by the penetration of a 1000 kilogram bomb this cable reel on Musashi's bow was possibly used for operation of the para vanes this is what remains of the 1.2 meter diameter wooden chrysanthemum on the bow of the Musashi the teak chrysanthemum was painted gold but the wood has eroded away you
