hey guys it's matt welcome to speed youtube and today i'm going to be showing you how to use a multiple sprites with one particle system because i wanted to create some musical notes which had four different sprites that appear from the particle and usually when you have a particle and you go down and you add a material you would have it and it would just share the same material and it would have one texture and that's not really what i want unless we used an animated sprite sheet and i'll show you how to do a texture sheet animation component on the particle effect to make this happen so be sure to come and check out my patreon to get over 115 different scripts and projects and so much more and come and throw a like on the video because it would really help me out so when you select any particle effect you can have any bunch of components down the right but if you take the texture sheet animation you would by default have this set to grid you can use grid if you've gridded your sprites out now in more modern versions of unity you can click on sprites and we can specify a bunch of sprites that we want to focus our particle effect to be now all the sprites need to be on one texture atlas and the texture atlas is just one texture sheet with a group of sprites that you wanted to cut out you can create this in photoshop or however you want to create your texture atlas when you import your texture atlas in you want to make sure that it's 2d ui it's on multiple and you can have the filter mode on point if it's a bit low quality but we need to use the sprite editor to cut these out if you don't have that you can go to window package manager filter by unity registry at the top and then search 2d and then you will want 2d sprite which will allow us to use a sprite editor then you can click to open the sprite editor and you can left click to make a selection around each of your sprites that you want to use and then hit apply and you can give them all different names if you need to so we can just slice those out and once you've sliced them they'll all be children of the main pairing as all separate depending on how you've named them so you can create a particle effect by right-clicking effects and particle system and when you do that you can take the little box which is the texture sheet animation so like i said you have the mode to sprites and you can add each of your sprites into the boxes and you can press the little plus if you need to add more versions and it will say to you if you don't have the sprites on the same atlas sheet that it won't work i've got the time mode on lifetime and the frame of a lifetime with a graph which gradually moves up and you want to look at the start frame and if it's as a constant it would start the frame at the end or whatever number you have and you can see that we've got something from and we've got four different actual sprites so if we click the drop down and we just go random between two constants we can do a random constant start frame between zero and four because we've got either none or we've got four different particles that we can choose from so we need to choose a random one between and you can leave your cycles on default or very low and you can leave the affected uv channels on everything and now this allows us to be able to use the particle in any way we want for the particle to be able to emit different versions of the same particle as long as the children and we could add far more to this and all we would need to do was increment the start frame to be able to show the particles that we want to emit i hope this gave you a general understanding of multiple sprites per particle effect let me know if you've got any improvements to this or any suggestions that you can make because i'd love to hear it so be sure to check out my patreon and you can get access to over 115 different scripts and projects and so much more come and chat to me on discord and join me over there check out my great assets on the unity store thank you so much for watching don't forget to like comment and subscribe cheers
