this video is sponsored by skillshare hello youtube it's accurate again back with another video from the home studio today akai dropped a new update for the mpcs i have it installed on my mpc one and it adds a bunch of new cool things to the npc four new synthesizer engines as well as a few new effects including an auto tuner and a vocal harmonizer a doubler and more stuff hey accurate on vacation here spending a few weeks in this caravan trailer in a trailer park with the family having an awesome time but i realized editing this video down that i totally forgot to mention a big part of this new 2.10 update and that's the fact that these npcs are now with this update becoming compatible with class compliant audio interfaces so you can basically hook up your npc to a class compliant audio interface just over one single usb connection and get access to up to 32 more inputs and outputs to expand stuff like that which is crazy powerful especially for something like the mpc one that i happen to use a lot myself and for kind of everyone who wants to be able to use their mpc as the main hub for everything in their studio forgot to mention that completely i don't know why but that's what it is now back to the black t-shirt again i'm not going to go super deep into everything in this video but i just want to talk about it and show it off a little bit because it really adds a lot of value to an already really cool product [Music] all right so first of all we are getting the hype synth that's been available in the akai force since launch and on top of that we're also getting a model version of the melotron the arp odyssey and the arp solina string synthesizer when it comes to effects we're also getting some new additions here we are getting a sample delay a limiter a diode clip a granulator which is also available as an xy effect there is a new half speed effect as well as a stutter and again i forgot to mention diff delay is the seventh new plugin in this list and by the way this is not at all a full redesign of the entire operating system in the npcs that's not what it is you're still gonna feel like comfortable and recognize things in the menus and stuff you know prior to this update we only had three different plug-in instruments available to us in the mpc that's not bad by any means they were really useful and i'm still going to use them for my beat making stuff of course that's not counting the different drum synths which are also really useful but now all of a sudden we have seven different instruments so that's kind of huge i guess a good way to show them off is just to play around a little bit with some presets in the different instruments and just let you guys hear what they can do so let's do that before we go any further and talk about the added effects that also adds a lot of cool functionality to the mpcs yeah time to play some presets [Music] one [Music] uh [Music] so [Music] so that's what that sounds like obviously i'm just scratching the surface here by playing presets but these instruments all comes to life when you are getting into them for real changing the oscillators the filters the envelopes and adding some of the built-in effects that some of these instrument has in my mind these plugins are just some really solid plug-in versions of whatever they're trying to emulate so the melotron sounds and works like a melotron plus it has a few extra tricks up its sleeve the same thing goes for the odyssey and for the selena they just sound like they're supposed to sound you kind of get what you expect here and i mean the fact that we are getting these three new instruments plus the hype synth available to us even in the standalone versions of the mpc is really cool to me at least so yeah if you can't tell already i'm a big fan of this update i think it's really really good now let's switch gears for a moment and talk a little bit about the new effects instead i mentioned them briefly in the intro for this video but some of them are really exciting so let's take a look at them so let's first of all start by exploring some of the new vocal effects that are a big part of this new update now i never record vocals straight into my mpc myself i make sample based beats but you know sometimes my samples has vocals in them and then these effects comes in really handy and you're of course by no means limited to just use these vocal effects for vocals but in this case that's what i'm using them for just to show you guys what they're all about but first a quick message from today's sponsor free trial of skillshare so you can start exploring your creativity today so i have one of my old beats loaded up here and it sounds like and then i also have this simple little vocal sample that i got from splice that kind of works like like that but let's go into the effects here and add one of the vocal ones in this case let's go for the harmonizer and change the key from c major to c minor because that's where the track is at now it sounds like that instead cool all right now a really quick way here to change the different harmonies is just to change the vocal range here go from mid to low or maybe very low now let's increase the tuning here which spreads the voices even more so it becomes like or maybe even becomes kind of weird so let's keep it over there and basically we went from to [Music] i mean even for a simple little vocal sample like this this harmonizer becomes really useful in many musical ways now it's not the most realistic thing ever the voices definitely sounds robotic in many ways i mean let's take the entire lead vocal out of the mix and it sounds like this instead but hey i mean for certain types of styles where the robotic sound might be a part of it this is really cool and i've also tried to pull a few different samples through the harmonizer and it always comes out at the other end interesting might be the right word to use sometimes it becomes really usable and sometimes just fun you know now let's back up here and take this one out and instead use one of the other vocal effects the doubler again the sample sounds like and let's turn it on and increase the number of voices to eight let's try alien voice again of course you can go super crazy or you can go for something that sounds a little bit more controlled and might just add a little bit of flavor in [Music] context and the third and last vocal effect that comes with the new update is a vocal tuner well i'm not much of an auto-tuner user myself so i'm not even gonna try to show you guys a demo of this one because i'm just not the guy nevertheless i think it's cool to have them inside of the standalone box like this it's a it's a cool addition now there are of course more new effects here that someone like me could use maybe a little bit more especially for live purposes and whatnot so let's go into here and try to add one of the new effects and this is a stutter effect that now applies to my master output so it sounds like alright so let's turn the intervals down to eighth notes let's try quarter notes instead [Music] or of course there's way more to explore in this one i'm using it on the entire master output now for some sort of effect but you can of course also use this one in production on like one single sample or a single instrument mix it in a little bit and get something nice like that it's a cool effect and it's new and it's included in the update so that's cool now the last one out of these new effects that i think i'm gonna show you in this video is the new half speed effect it's just a lot of fun now i think it's kind of obvious what this one does it's called half speed and it takes my beat from sounding like two [Music] of course it can do more than that let's try another preset [Music] let's try this one [Music] and i guess another option here could be to just use this one for like the sample for instance let's try that instead [Music] yeah i mean why not i think it's kind of cool and it's useful for a few different things and i said i'm not going to go too deep into every single detail here so that's what it is one more thing i want to say though is that there are some really cool changes made to the program edit menu for drum programs the entire layout for this screen has been flipped on its side so now it's a little bit easier to navigate and it adds more functionality to it so now it's easier to set up your mute groups and polyphony and everything like that on this first page what's also really cool here is that we now have a pitch envelope right here for our samples it's big and nice and it's easy to see what you're doing in terms of changes to your envelopes i think that's really cool that applies to the amplitude and to the envelopes for the filters as well so that's nice now the last thing i'm going to mention here i promise is that we now have a new screen of drum effects straight in our drum programs this isn't made to be super granular or detailed or anything this is just a quick and easy way to get access to a few different effects and apply them straight on to our different samples without being forced to load up a plug-in or whatever this just comes in really handy for someone like me this is definitely a workflow improvement to have access to effects straight from this page so that's it uh there are more new things in this new 2.10 update that i haven't covered fully in this video but again that's not the point of this one and no we didn't get the full song mode or arrange review or whatever people are asking for in the mpc forums online that's not this one but instead we got four new synthesizers some new effects and some workflow improvements to me that's that's good enough for now definitely i mean it's not like i don't want more stuff to come to the npcs of course i can imagine more things coming in the future that i would love to see but i have been a fan of these new embassies even since the first mpc live came out and honestly one of the things that i've been wanting is just more plug-in instruments and that's what we got here today i think it could be cool to hear what you guys are wishing that akai brought to future updates for the npc series i mean if you have any strong opinions about that write it in the comment section below and let's share experiences i'm really happy with this update so thanks a lot for watching this video i hope to see you guys in the next one as well until then hor the god
