I pick tractor power fans this video comes to you from a western New York dairy farm and in the video we're going to follow the alfalfa harvesting process as the farm puts up feed for their dairy cows we'll see a big tractor with a triple mower mowing down the alfalfa then we'll see a self-propelled merger running through the field gathering up the swaths of freshly cut hay we'll also see the farm self-propelled forge harvester processing the alfalfa into feed and then we'll see two big articulated four-wheel drive tractors packing the silage into the bunk where it will later be fed out to the farms dairy herd so let's head out to the field now so we can see all this hanging action [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the alfalfa harvest begins on the farm with a Pottinger Novik at alpha motion mower this triple mower is mounted on a 230 engine horsepower john deere 7 230 our tractor rated at 198 pto horsepower the tractor and mower are knocking down 32 feet of alfalfa per pass [Music] [Music] once the alfalfa has been mowed down the farm uses a 250 horsepower Oxbow 43:34 self-propelled merger this big machine sweeps up nearly 34 feet of hay per pass and two passes it's collected almost sixty eight feet of alfalfa plus a center windrow where the hay is collected for a total of seven swaths that cover over 70 feet when growing the alfalfa this way helps maximize the horsepower of the self-propelled forge harvester that will collect it it also reduces the number of trips made across the field saving on fuel and time as well as compaction on the alfalfa plants which are harvested a few times a year over a several year period [Music] the farm uses a 582 horsepower John Deere 77 80 pro-drive self-propelled fourt harvester to collect the wind rows of alfalfa this machine processes the FL feh into haylage it chops up the stems and leaves of the crop and then throws them through a chute into a truck which will haul the feed back to the farm for storage [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] at the farm the trucks unload the haylage on a sentiment pad and then two large articulated Forel drive tractors are working to push in pack the feed into a bunker the hay leads will be stored here until it's ready to be fed out to the cows the farm uses a 375 engine horsepower John Deere 9320 articulated four-wheel drive tractor equipped with a grouser dozer blade to push the haylage from the cement pad up into the pile following just behind the John Deere 9320 four wheel drive tractor with the grouser blade is a 235 horsepower case international 90 230 articulated four-wheel drive tractor it is equipped with an agro Matic Bigfoot silage compactor this machine applies 50 psi per roller as it passes back and forth over the silage pile using the a Grammatik bigfoot allows the farm to compact the silage pile this pushes out air pockets in the haylage which can lead to spoilage and it also improves the fermentation leading to better food quality [Music] I hope you've enjoyed spending some time out in the field hearing and seeing all the big farm machinery involved in harvesting alfalfa if you would like to see more videos like this one consider subscribing to big tractor power YouTube where there's over 1,000 videos of farm machines in action as always thank you for watching [Music] you
