getting more parts in these videos I know viewership is down our subscribers are down even my comforter is down does anyone have any ideas on how we can boost our views well I've got an idea what is know but everybody loves lemonade can you return me to the puppet store no okay okay I've got another idea you guys like peanuts right yeah what if we made poo nuts it's a whole nother Market we haven't tapped into Steve that's ridiculous oh I've got an idea we can make a sequel to James and the Giant Peach we'll call it James in the regular sized Peach it basically writes itself but that's an apple and I'm allergic to peaches maybe we could get a billboard or a statue we could put our names on it or something hey that's a great idea and it just so happens I know the perfect place to do it so what do you guys say are you in you have my sword and my ax and my pause where did you come from [Music] our last chance to save our Channel and you take me to the bottom of a hill looking up at a giant old dude's nose what so where are we exactly we're in Mount Rushmore a famous monument located in the Black Hills of South Dakota and our plan is to do what exactly all right so Steve is gonna rig the monument with dynamite and when I hit this button it should change the faces on the monument to ours really of all the people to trust with dynamite and you pick Steve yeah relax that's actually how a lot of the sculpture was made in 1923 a historian named Dwayne Robinson had the idea of building what is now Mount Rushmore to promote tourism I wish I could put some old dudes faces on that hill over there Dwayne reached out to a sculptor by the name of goosan Borglum this is gustan who traveled to South Dakota and chose the location that Mount Rushmore is at today that looks like a good place for some old dudes fast Awards The Carving took 14 years to complete with the first carving beginning on August 10 1927 and finishing on October 31st 1941 about 400 men worked on the carving the mountain itself is made largely of granite and 90 of it was carved using Dynamite the workers would set charges of dynamite to remove about three to six inches of rock next the workers would drill holes into the granite very close together this was called honeycombing the closely drilled holes would weaken the granite so it could be removed Often by hand in total about 450 000 tons of rock were removed from the mountain and despite using Dynamite to get rid of most of the Rocks not one person died during the creation of Mount Rushmore what is Steve doing up there he's not answering my calls what but why is it named Mount Rushmore I gotta imagine that that name belongs to at least one of those faces No the name comes from something else the mountain was actually named long before the monument was carved the Lakota Native Americans who inhabited this area long before anyone else called this mountain tumkasila or six grandfather's Mountain but in 1884 a New York City attorney named Charles E Rushmore was in the Black Hills of South Dakota checking on the legal titles of properties while working for a mining company Mr Rushmore asked his guide what the large mountain was named and the guide simply replied that the mountain never had a name but from now on we'll call it Rushmore and ever since the name stuck originally the historian who envisioned Mount Rushmore Dwayne Robinson imagine the monument being an Ode to the Wild West test with carvings of historical figures such as Lewis and Clark Buffalo Bill Cody and Lakota leader redcloud this all changed once Borglum came on board he viewed Mount Rushmore as a chance to Showcase How Great America was and figured it should show our nation's greatest presidents George Washington the country's first president would represent its birth Thomas Jefferson who nearly doubled the country's size with his purchase of the Louisiana Territory stood for its Westward Expansion Theodore Roosevelt who had overseen the construction of the Panama Canal was a symbol of economic growth and Abraham Lincoln was selected for having fought to preserve the nation in the Civil War originally Susan B Anthony the famous women's rights activist was meant to be on the mountain with the presidents but a funding problem got in the way this sculpture has over 200 feet wide each face is about 60 feet high their noses are roughly 21 feet tall their eyes are 11 feet wide and their mouths are 18 feet wide this was all carved on a mountain that is over 5 700 feet high at the time this Monument cost one million dollars to build that's equal to over 20 million dollars today what but today the sculpture stands unfinished as Luton warglum died about seven months before it was completed he originally intended for the presidents to have bodies as well as heads he also wanted Mount Rushmore to be more than just a monument so he planned to build a room behind Lincoln's head that would store some of America's most important documents like the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution being that he died before its completion his dream never came true the workers did start to carve a 70-foot long tunnel behind Lincoln's head but in 1998 16 panels explaining the history of the United States end of Mount Rushmore were placed inside of the 70-foot tunnel the area is not open to the public and is only meant to serve as a time capsule teachers and parents the creation of Mount Rushmore its location and its original sculptor have a troubled past if you wish to learn more about this check the
