foreign [Music] following mk9's massive appeal and success franchise co-creator Ed Boone and his team at netherrealm Studios began development of their 10th Mainline Mortal Kombat project in 2012. a year before the game's release at E3 2014 Warner Brothers unveiled a teaser featuring a fight between series icons Scorpion and Sub-Zero battling in a gloomy snowy Forest setting up this next installments darker and grittier atmosphere the trailer saw over 11 million views and was the third highest viewed trailer on YouTube in the second quarter of 2014. merely foreshadowing the success of this next entry Mortal Kombat X reached store shelves in April of 2015 for the PlayStation 4 Xbox One and PC there were planned the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game however it was deemed too difficult to port to the older Hardware which was quickly being phased out around this time and as to not hold back the current Generations they were canceled Mortal Kombat X is another one-on-one fighting game coming back with a series of same rules character-specific special attacks and the same front and back attacks that were revised in MK9 also returning from MK9 is the super meter at the bottom of the screen once again split into three sections filling each allows you to enhance a special attack use your combo breaker or filling it until it's full lets you execute your character's x-ray attack the stages were a big step up from the ones in the past now having these big set pieces playing in the background outward stages are littered with all manner of monsters and people from many backgrounds the builders go to work taking down the old stone statues of shao Khan's Rule and replacing them with new metal structures the dense Quantum jungle level sees whole new creatures that have been created for the level like a crocodile and the leech python that has its own profile that you can unlock within the extras menu the stages even featured new gameplay enhancements allowing you to interact with many objects of the foreground during the battles there are Mobility features like walls to jump from weaponized interactions like a hammer or even a person in the background that you can grab and throw and then there are some that serve both purposes like branches or vines that you can swing on and also kick your opponent these background interactions along with the newly added run feature which we haven't seen since MK4 both utilize the return of the energy meter that sits just below your health bar speaking of the UI it has now been redesigned into this clean white design that contrasts well with the darker tone of the game in addition every combatant now comes with three different variations that you choose from before you enter the battle the three variations feature a different set of moves that they can use during the fight essentially breaking your character up into three different versions for example with scorpion his Ninjutsu variation gives him moves that utilize his sword attacks the hell Hellfire variation has him uses fire-based attacks and his infernal variation allows him to summon hellspawn minions the character intros that were added in MK9 have received major upgrades now every battle variation that you can think of comes with multiple unique character interactions that shed light on why they'd be fighting or include references to previous Games events it's fun banter that is almost as exciting to watch as it is to play the match itself MKX also features the Mortal Kombat trademark fatalities now even a step up in the gruesome meter from MK9 more grotesque sound effects more blood physics more blasting holes inside of your opponent which shows an extreme level of detail of the organs within some even being torn in half or flopping to the ground alongside each character's two traditional fatalities there is also the return of brutalities although they are different from the ones first seen in Ultimate MK3 brutalities are now in the form of specific moves that are triggered when said move is used as the final blow to win the final round in a fight instead of just damaging the enemy they'll be killed instead sometimes with their head popping off they expanded brutalities to even having some special stage brutalities that incorporate the stage interactions and after a later update MKX even received three unique stage fatalities the classic one and the pit stage that sees your opponent fall into a bed of spikes The Cove which sees your opponent being dragged into the depths of the ocean by a huge tentacle and the refugee camp stage where your opponent is held in the air by tons of gunfire from Special Forces troops below for modes Mortal Kombat X has plenty of returning features and some new additions for starters there is versus once again playable online and in King of the Hill sessions Now featuring a brand new finishing move called a quitality which instantly kills your opponent if they quit Midway through the match there is also custom combats that lets you customize your match with various modifiers and Tower battles where you compete for the highest score in a randomly generated Tower but the biggest new feature of online was the faction War where you could choose which faction from the Mortal Kombat universe you'd like to join and your time of the game would dictate which faction would win each season gifting members of that faction additional rewards some of these were also new finishes called faction kills a set of finishing moves available which were based on which faction you had selected with the feature no longer being supported the factions now only serve to change which background your main menu has allowing you to choose from different themed background such as the link way black dragon Special Forces Brotherhood of Shadow or White Lotus in addition to online and local play for the first time in the series you can now do single battles against the AI offering even more replay value the practice mode complete with new training sessions return learning you all the basics and every character's fatality Towers were back in a big way along with your traditional Arcade Tower that featured corrupted Shinnok as the final boss and new endings for every character there were also multiple other towers for you to play test your might return playing as it has done in the past test your look was back from MK9 which made you spin for a random opponent and modifiers the endless tower had you try to defeat as many opponents as you could without losing the Survivor Tower as you try to defeat as many opponents as you can where now your health carries over to the next battle the living Towers featured hourly daily and Premiere towers that would change with different modifiers challenges and opponents offering bigger rewards and then there were Tower challenges where you complete a randomly generated Tower and can challenge your friends to beat your high score outside of the tower modes the single player was led by mkx's story mode which had returned for the third time we now have 12 chapters each one having us take control of a single character it was evenly split with six chapters centered on returning characters and six dedicated to the new cast it was also the first story mode in the series to feature some occasional quick time events within the cutscenes to keep up the action and flow of the game beginning two years after Mortal Kombat 9 Shinnok the Fallen Elder God has escaped his imprisonment in the nether realm and sends his demon Army a new Legion of revenance to attack earthrealm whilst Johnny Cage and kenshi are battling Scorpion and Revenant Sub-Zero inside a chopper piloted by Sonia blade Raiden and fujin are holding back an assault from Quan Chi and his Army and the sky Temple Quan Chi and Shinnok are after the jinsei the source of Earth realm's life force which they can use to transform the realm into a hellish abyss and control it with their magic Johnny Cash defeats the two ninja Masters and with kenshi and Sonia they embarked Towards the Sky Temple to assist Raiden and fujin we see a few of the Revenant Heroes such as Striker Jax and smoke who now goes by the name anenra the team manages to defeat the revenants and make its to the ginseng chamber saving Raiden just in time they do battle with Shinnok but he overwhelms them in just a few swipes when Shinnok tries to kill Sonia Johnny rushes to defend her inadvertently Awakening ancient superhuman Powers within himself using these Powers Johnny holds Shinnok at Bay long enough for Raiden to steal shinnok's amulet and imprison him inside it but Quan Chi manages to escape Johnny Raiden and Sonia track him to his lair in the nether realm and give him a solid beat down due to his weakened state after shinnok's defeat he goes down pretty easy they also successfully restore the revenants that were in the room with Quan Chi those being Scorpion Sub-Zero and Jax however Quan Chi escapes again in the years that follow Johnny and Sonia marry and have a daughter that they named Cassie cage though they later divorce scorpion Now using his original name Hanzo hasashi rebuilds his shirai Ryu Clan while mentoring kenshi's son takida and Sub-Zero becomes the new Grandmaster of the link way after returning to Earth realm and killing Sektor Sub-Zero invites Hanzo asashi to the linkway temple and for the first time we see the pair sit and negotiate over a pot of tea Frost Sub-Zero's recent Apprentice attacked scorpion with her not able to see peace and is instead fueled by arrogance Sub-Zero freezes her as this is not what he brought Hanzo here for he uses the data from sektor's memory banks detailing Quan Chi's various manipulations of the link way showing Hanzo the truth about the deaths of his wife and son meanwhile in outworld Molina has took the throne after the death of Shao Khan however her blind loyalty to the deceased Emperor has left her with many that do not see her fit as ruler and one of her advisors Koto Khan Rises up against her along with his follower devorah in a heated battle devorah kills Baraka and irmax which his size to serve kotel with Molina now seen as an outcast Koto Khan would assured the throne becoming the new emperor of outworld after a big time Jump 20 years after shinnok's defeat we meet back up with an older and somber Johnny Cage who has assembled a new team of young Fighters composed of Cassie takida Jax's daughter Jackie Briggs and Kung lao's younger cousin although later retconned as his nephew in mk11 Kung Jin a after undergoing a training exercise with sub-zero they are deployed to outworld to resolve a civil war between former Emperors Molina who has managed to obtain shinnok's amulet which has been stolen from Raiden and outwards current Emperor Koto Khan who has secured a fragile peace treaty with earthrealm outworld looks a lot different to how it's been depicted in previous games and even referenced the game's purple look it had in deception which was pretty neat the two factions battle in the streets when Molina ambushes his Carriage with the help of aardinian allies Tanya and rain in Earth realm the special forces have assisted 3D era classic character Lee May in establishing an outworld refugee camp at the camp Sonja captures Kano and forces him to reveal Molina's location using this information Cassie's team AIDS cultural in recovering shinnok's amulet and capturing Molina held in kotor's tent Molina is executed by devorah on kotel's orders with him no longer believing Earth realm capable of keeping the amulet safe kotel decides to keep it in outwards hands and takes Cassie and her friends hostage as leverage against Raiden however kotel second command devorah is revealed as a double agent for Quan Chi and steals the amulet to take to her master when Cassie and her team Escape kotor's captivity they inform us realm of devorah's intentions hoping to stop Quan Chi from getting the amulet Jackson kenshi head to the nether realm and join the local resistance led by another returning character Serena who is now reformed from her life as a member of the Brotherhood of Shadow after fighting his way through the revenants Jax captures a weakened Quan Chi who is brought to Earth realm and held at the refugee camp Master hasashi infiltrates the refugee camp alongside his shirai Ryu with the intentions of assassinating Quan Chi for revenge for ruining his life as hasashi prepares to kill Quan Chi devorah arrives with the amulets in an edge of your seat moment Quan Chi is grabbed by Scorpion's chain devorah throws the amulet towards him and he manages to grab the amulet and finish his spell mere seconds before being beheaded by hasashi releasing Shinnok from captivity Sheila Shinnok flaws the heroes and with the aid of quan Chi's revenants and devorah they assault the sky Temple and subdue Raiden and master borai Cho in the process Shinnok then enters the jinsei and corrupts it transforming himself into a powerful demon in the process Cassie's team arrives back from outworld to pursue Shinnok only to be intercepted by Koto Khan and his army they inform him of shinnok's return and Koto decides to kill them hoping to appease Shinnok and buy time to bolster outwars defenses but Sub-Zero and his linkway Warriors appear just in time to repel kotokan's forces Sub-Zero tells Cassie to continue to the sky Temple whilst they hauled off kotel at the sky Temple Jackie and Takeda keep the revenants busy whilst Cassie and jyn move into the ginseng chamber inside devorah begins torturing Johnny whilst Kung Jin AIDS Raiden Cassie manifests Powers similar to her fathers and uses them to defeat devorah and then goes on to battle corrupt Shinnok after a tough final battle her magical Heritage gives her the upper hand and she destroys this form of Shinnok Raiden then purifies the Jin say stripping Shinnok of his powers and forcing the revenants to withdraw back to the nether realm Sonja and her soldiers arrive reuniting the cage family some time later Raiden now in possession of shinnok's amulet and corrupted in the process of purifying the jinsei issues a warning to the revenant's Liu Kang and Kitana who are both now the rulers of the nether realm if they dare ever threaten earthrealm they will face Fate's worse than death Raiden leaves behind shinook's severed head as a final warning before departing [Music] Mortal Kombat X came with 24 playable characters at launch a step down from mk9's roster however with character variations and eight brand new Fighters it's easy to see why the roster was shorter for returning characters we have scorpion Once A specter reborn by Quan Chi and full of rage and hatred scorpion has since been restored and leads a new group of shirai Ryu as Hanzo hasashi scorpion has really matured in this game and it's nice to finally see him leading the shirai Ryu as a Force for good his design also really Nails the tone of this game Scorpion's variations are Inferno Ninjutsu and hellfire there's Sub-Zero having been cyberized and then claimed as a Revenant by Quan Chi Sub-Zero has since been freed he returned to Earth realm and defeated Sektor becoming the new Grandmaster of the link way he had reformed the clan and is now dedicated to the protection of Earth realm Sub-Zero's variations are Grand Master that allows him to create his ice clones cryomancer for access to his ice blades and unbreakable for ice shields Raiden the Thunder God and protector of Earth realm Raiden has done everything to defend his realm against the likes of Shao Khan and Shinnok Raiden's variations are master of storms Thunder God and displacer Liu Kang after a dispute with Raiden he died in the battle against Shao Khan and in turn he was reborn a Revenant for Quan Chi's Army Liu Kang's new appearance sees him as an older master and what he could have looked like had he not become a Revenant Liu Kang's variations are dualist flame Fist and Dragons fire Johnny Cage now leading a secret task force of the Special Forces has one of the biggest changes in his design now going with a slightly more serious look however you still get a bit of the Hollywood Playboy via the necklace glasses and chest tattoo Johnny's variations are A-list which allows him to charge some normal and special attacks stick-offs and stunts double Kano as treacherous as they come he still leads the black markets weapons dealing providing service to both kotel Khan and Molina's Rebellion his design feels like a good evolution of what has come before lots of blades sleazy hair and face and new design of his cybernetic eye and heart kano's variations are Commando Cut Throat which gives him his knife attacks and cybernetic for his laser attacks with each variation changing the color of his cybernetics Sonia blade has returned changing from her usual Army greens to more experienced Grays and blues Sonia's variations are special forces which allows her to call in an assist drone covert Ops and demolition for access to explosives and grenades reptile is also back with him now serving the new emperor of outworld kotel Khan I think this is one of reptile's better designs with the fully covered snout and bone-like costume making him look almost prehistoric reptiles variations are noxious deceptive and nimble there's Kung Lao once trained by The Shaolin Monks but his immaturity and impetuous nurse prevented him from being taken as seriously as his friend Liu Kang he was killed by Shao Khan in the second tournament which left him becoming a Revenant in Quan Chi's Army Kung lao's variations are hat-trick Tempest and buzzsar Jax retiring from the Special Forces when he was restored from his Revenant form Jax has decided to come back once more in the fight against Shinnok he has a more age-scarred look with the gray hairs more rugged attire and new arms Jax's variations are wrestler for his grab moves heavy weapons for access to his rocket launcher and submachine gun and pumped up Katana wants the princess of adenia then Shao Khan's trusted assassin and then a fighter for Earth realm's Freedom Katana died in that conflict which now has left her as a Revenant of quan Chi's Army she comes with a stronger ninja inspired design as opposed to the more Regal attires of some of her past entries katana's variations are mournful which is essentially Jade's moveset and sees Katana use some of Jay's classic attacks with Jay's glaive and staff Royal storm which has her spin attacks with her fans and assassin Molina created by Shang Tsung on orders of Shao Khan she became his hair to the throne after his demise however Molina's stubborn loyalty to Shao Khan had her decide not to Ally with Earth realm when the nether realm threatened The Invasion as such the people of outworld and kotel Khan as such the throne from Molina she now leads a rebellion against him Molina is a good contrast to Katana having a ninja appearance that is more rough and combat ready she also has a more traditional lips now as opposed to her mouth being entirely consumed by sharp teeth Molina's variations are ravenous piercing and ethereal irmac now serving kotel Khan after Shao Khan's demise he represents a rotting prison of souls a starving mummification of his former self his new designer some of the same design choices as his deception attire ermac's variations are spectral which gives him the air attacks Mystic which is more focused on his telekinetic abilities and master of Souls Quan Chi originally a netherrealm demon he has become one of the most powerful Sorcerers in all the Realms he serves the Fallen elder god Shinnok and plans to do anything to resurrect his evil God no matter how long that it may take he looks more villainous and edgy with his two large blades on each shoulder and skull are fixed on his chest Quan Chi's variations are Summoner Sorcerer And Warlock Millennia ago he was trapped in the nether Realm by Raiden and the Elder Gods after trying to conquer all of reality now with the help of Kwan Chi shinok hopes to try his act once again this is certainly one of his best designs displaying the Twisted netherrealm elements in the saintly garments with sharp edges and a confident yet Sinister miasma the designers even implemented details of his amulet into his costume through the gold armor and green gems shinnok's variations are Necromancer which sees him summon his skeletal hands imposter which lets him steal his opponent's special attacks and Bone shaper and the last returning character is kenshi after Shao Khan's attempted Invasion kenshi led a family life settling down with a wife Sushin but when his past caught up with him the red dragon murdered his wife discovering he had a son he makes the decision to leave the boy takida in the care of the now reformed Hanzo asashi hoping his son will learn the ways of the shirai Ryu and stop him from going after the red dragon alone kenshi now goes back into battle joining the Special Forces kenshi has another great design building on what he was worn in the previous appearances kenshi's variations are kenjutsu balanced and possessed which sees him able to summon demons Mortal Kombat X features eight new characters there is Cassie cage the daughter of Sonia and Johnny having a mixture of Sonia's fearlessness and Johnny's Brash attitude while still having their sense of modern youthfulness she is strong-willed and quick-witted but hides a sense of self-doubt cultivated by the demanding nature of Sonia in Cassie's ending after defeating Shinnok and saving Earth realm the new dark Raiden has a go on a quest to track down and dispose of a traveling sorcerer who could possibly be a revived Shang Tsung Cassie finds the withered old master and beats him to a pulp when she asks his name his dying breath Whispers shujinko Cassie's variations are spec ops Hollywood and brawler there's Takeda the son of kenshi and suchin a Thai American woman who was murdered by Red Dragon thugs he was orphaned to Hanzo asashi and the Shira Ryu by kenshi to grow up and be trained in the Arts of combat but after meeting back up with his father years later Takeda has grown abandonment issues he has yet to overcome he now joins the new special forces task force Takeda is like a new take on the modern ninja he's equipped with pulse blades and new arm mounted Deployable whips that he can use to attack enemies at range after the events of the game takida and his father kenshi joined together to hunt down sushin's murderers they find a warrior encased in stone and free him now with taven's help they track down his brother daegon who had not only started up The Red Dragon Clan but also murdered taven's father Argus and mother Delia Tavon kenshi and takida battle the red dragon and take down Dagon with Sushin having been Avenged takeda's variations are Ronin which sees him use the Bulls blades Shira Ryu for Scorpion inspired attacks and Lusher Kung Jin the relative of Kung Lao is a bow user designed around the idea that he is a thief turned herobic Shaolin monk he wields a staff that can be used as both a melee and ranged weapon Jin's variations are Shaolin ancestral and bujutsu the same staff fighting style that Bol Rai Cho had in the 3D era Jackie Briggs whilst not having Jax's wishes of joining the Special Forces still wants to help Earth realm and continue her father's Legacy Jackie is like the new young female version of Jags complete with robotic accessories and boxing fighting style Jackie's variations are high-tech shotgun and full auto Khan an OSH Tech Warrior who served Shao Khan and often traveled to earthrealm where he has been seen as a deity by the Aztec civilization when Xiao Khan's rule came to an end kotul Khan accepts the throne from Molina and became the new emperor of outworld this is certainly one of my favorite designs in the series for its elaborate headdress blue body paint and gold embellishments that make kotel Stand Out inspired by ancient Aztec culture Kotor is a perfect fit for one to rule the outward Throne after Shao Khan kotor's variations are sun god blood God and war god devorah the insect Hive Queen she is a member of the katin race originating from the realm of anyek her loyalty and insightfulness saw her rise in outwards political ranks quite quickly she is now the egotistical advisor to outwards Emperor her sharp edges and hidden guys give this sense of treachery and maliciousness she dresses in this hood and Cape which not only displays her Regal status but also adds to her diplomatic facade and hides her true intentions devorah's variations are venomous brood mother and swarm Queen Aaron black is the Western Gunslinger archetype originating from Earth realm Aaron black found himself in outworld and has since fought and survived its hostile lands eventually earning him a place at the side of the emperor kotel Khan he features a plethora of Weaponry such as a rifle revolvers sand grenades and a Close Quarters blade fashioned out of a takatan claw lastly there is ferritol a symbiotic pair that function as one character pharah is a small imp that sits on top of the brutish monster tour with her giving him orders Pharaoh was designed to look barbaric but still flamboyant while it's tall looks like a walking bulldozer they were found wandering the outworld wastelands before being captured and trained into serving kotul Khan as his personal bodyguard in ferritor's ending more details on their species are revealed it turns out that pharah starts to become of age and begins her metamorphosis into the large brute when this happens Tor is left to rot alone and die now pharah takes over as the brute and finds a new Young Rider of their race beginning the cycle Anew ferrators variations are Lackey where Tor fights solo as Pharaoh watches from the side ruthless and vicious four extras Mortal Kombat X saw the return of the crypt building on its appearance in MK9 it's now more like a mini game of his own styled after Classic first person Dungeon Crawlers in which you move along a grid it features a map and inventory system as you'll be needing them to keep track of where you've been and which items you've collected as different items that you find in the Crypt help you reach new areas jump scares also return now in the form of QuickTime events completing the crypts will have you unlock a ton of bonus material from extra alternate costumes and new fatalities and brutalities for all of the characters from The Collection menu you can view all of your unlocked concept art to which there's also a developer notes and you can use the character model viewer and even play and enjoy the music from The Game's stages expanding upon the four DLC characters and costume packs of MK9 MKX has over tripled the amount of post-release content before the game's launch Goro was offered as a pre-order bonus later he was also made available for purchase Goro is now an outcast of the realm of outworld since Shao Khan's death he took no size in the civil war between New Emperor kotel and rebel Molina this is one of Goro's best playable appearances to date with him no longer being just a soup top and boss character his variations are tiger Fury heavily inspired by kintaro's special attacks such as fire breathing Quantum Warrior and dragon fangs where he comes equipped with the same arm blades that he had in MK deception and Armageddon other extras at launched with the controversial Crypt unlock which when purchased would automatically unlock everything in the Crypt for you completing it to 100 they were also easy fatality token which when you purchase in various amounts helps skip the input code when executing a fatality for purchasable DLC costumes there are a total of 30 released for the game there were animated looking costumes for Scorpion Sub-Zero and irmac which had Bolder and simpler colors making them look like action figures or an old cartoon there was a Japanese inspired Samurai pack which featured an epic Ronin outfit for kenshi which fully covers his face a samurai skin for Shinnok and a jingu skin for Katana the horror pack which featured a vampire's skin for Molina giving her a more pale skin and a blood red attire a kraken skin for reptile making him more amphibious-like and a pharaoh skin for Ermac fully embracing the Egyptian wrappings the Cold War pack featured a motherland skin for Sonia complete with her wearing a no shanka a skin for Sub-Zero titled Tundra after his previous alter ego and a skin for Kano named Revolution there was also a Cold War scorpion and skin coming fitted with a gas mask inspired helmet and chains around his arms the two classic packs came with MK1 inspired skins volcano Sonia and Liu Kang MK3 inspired skins for Kung Lao and Jax and the MK4 attire for Quan Chi the Brazil Pack inspired by the football season featured a sports costume for Johnny Cage a capoeira attire for Liu Kang any Gaucho outfit for Kung Lao the Predator pack which released alongside the Predator DLC saw Johnny Cage gets a Commando skin inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger scorpion got a infrared skin inspired by the vision produced by the Predator's helmet and Jax received a skin inspired by Carl Weathers character from The Predator movie the apocalypse pack inspired by The Mad Max reboot saw similar design skins for Takeda devorah and Aaron black the final costume pack was cosplay which featured Cassie cage in a Sub-Zero outfit and Jackie Briggs in a scorpion outfit there were also some exclusive costumes for connecting your game to the mobile version of Mortal Kombat this could unlock you MK2 inspired outfits for Katana and Molina Johnny Cage's ninja mime outfit from his hit Hollywood movie jaxy's Farm outfits from the story mode scorpions attire from Injustice Gods Among Us an undercover outfit for Cassie cage and a cyber outfit for Jackie connecting your Warner Brothers accounts to the game also unlocked you special futuristic outfit for Raiden there were also two classic fatality packs that came with some remade fatalities from the past for certain Legacy characters simple but still effective for DLC characters Mortal Kombat X embraced the game's darker tone and continue to feature more horror themed special guests like they had done with Freddy Krueger in MK9 combat Pack 1 began with Jason Voorhees ailing from the Friday the 13th franchise an Unstoppable being Jason died as a young boy and his mother led a murder spree out of grief and rage when she died Jason came back to life and a slaughtered to avenge her death ever since in Jason's ending he is met by the new ruler of the nether realm Liu Kang he offers Jason endless Slaughter if he joins with him Jason replies by doing what he does best and instead he kills Liu Kang Jason's variations are unstoppable which gives him an ability to come back to life slasher where he utilizes his machete and relentless the next character was Tanya making her debut all the way back in MK4 and returning since Armageddon tanyu joins Molina's Rebellion alongside her fellow adenian reign in a deal that Molina will create a new adenia for them both 10 years variations are pyromancer kobujitsu inspired by the same weapon fighting style she had in the 3D era and dragon naganata a new weapon she has in her Arsenal the second guess was Predator coming from the franchise of the same name an alien Creature From Another World The Predator
