KICKING OFF YOUR MORNING WITH US. I AM FRANCIS RIVERA. HAVE A GREAT THURSDAY. WE WILL SEE YOU ON FRIDAY. >>> PRESIDENT BIDEN ON THE WORLD STAGE AND UNDER THE MICROSCOPE AT THE NATO SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON. THE PRESIDENT PREPARING FOR HIS FIRST SOLO NEWS CONFERENCE IN MONTHS, A KEY TEST PULLING A DISASTROUS DEBATE PERFORMANCE THAT HAS RAISED CONCERNS OVER THE BIDEN REELECTION. >>> I WANT HER TO DO WHATEVER HE DECIDES TO DO. >>> ALL OF THIS AS DONALD TRUMP TAKES AIM AT THE CONTROVERSIAL. >>> THE HEAT GOES ON FROM COAST TO COAST WITH SEVERAL CITIES BRACING FOR RECORD WRECKING TEMPERATURES. WE ARE TRACKING THE TEMPERATURES AND WHEN SOME MIGHT FEEL RELIEF. >>> THE CLASSROOM BECOMING A NO- PHONE ZONE AS MORE SCHOOL ZONES MOVED TO THE BAN. >>> A MAJORITY OF GEN ZERS SAY THEY ARE FALLING BEHIND WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR FINANCES. WE HAVE SOME TIPS TO GET BACK ON TRACK. >> YOU CAN GET BACK ON TRACK. GOOD TO HAVE YOU WITH US. I AM JOE FRYER. >> WE WILL GET STARTED WITH THE INCREASING PRESSURE FACING PRESIDENT BIDEN IN HIS REELECTION. MORE DEMOCRATS ARE RAISING CONCERN ABOUT THE PRESIDENT'S CANDIDACY IN THE WAKE OF THAT SHAKY DEBATE WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP. >>> PETER WELCH BECAME THE FIRST IN A DEMOCRAT TO CALL HIM PRESIDENT BIDEN TO STEP ASIDE. A LOT ARE KEEPING AN EYE ON NANCY PELOSI WHO STOPPED SHORT YESTERDAY OF SAYING THAT MR. BIDEN SHOULD STAY IN THE RACE BUT DID SAY IT IS UP TO HIM TO DECIDE IF HE CONTINUES. ALL OF THIS AS PRESIDENT BIDEN PREPARES TO TAKE CENTER STAGE AT THE NATO SUMMIT, TODAY. HE WILL HOLD HIS FIRST SOLO NEWS CONFERENCE IN EIGHT MONTHS, A TEST OF MANY ANXIOUS ALLIES WILL BE WATCHING. YESTERDAY, THE PRESIDENT WAS FOCUSED ON NATO SAYING THE ALLIANCE IS STRONGER THAN EVER. >> I AM VERY PLEASED THAT ALL NATO MEMBERS ARE MAKING A MOVE TO EXPAND OUR BASE AND CAPACITY. THIS NEW PLEDGE SENDS AN UNMISTAKABLE MESSAGE TO THE WORLD THAT EVERY NATO MEMBER IS COMMITTED TO DOING THEIR PART TO KEEP THE ALLIANCE STRONG. WE CAN AND WILL DEFEND EVERY INCH OF NATO TERRITORY AND WE WILL DO IT TOGETHER. >> WE HAVE A TEAM STANDING BY TO DISCUSS THE ELECTION BATTLE. LET'S BEGIN WITH ALLIE RAFFA. WE WILL START WITH THE PRESIDENT'S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NATO NEWS CONFERENCE COMING UP LATER TODAY. WHAT IS AT STAKE AND WHAT IS NBC NEWS LEARNING ABOUT HOW HE IS GETTING READY? >> THE PRESIDENT HAS SEIZED HIS PRESS CONFERENCE AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW HIS FOREIGN POLICIES AND PROVE HIS CRITICS WRONG AS WE SEE MORE DEMOCRATS CALL FOR HIM TO STEP ASIDE AND THE WHITE HOUSE AS WELL HEY FULLY WANT THIS PRESS CONFERENCE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT HE HAS DONE AND HIS ACCOMPLISHMENT, THEY FULLY EXPECT QUESTIONS TO REVOLVE AROUND HIS AGE AND MENTAL FITNESS AND THOSE GROWING CALLS FOR HIM TO STEP ASIDE. THEY SAY THAT THEY DON'T SEE THE ONE MAJOR HIGH-STAKES MOMENT THAT IS GOING TO MAKE OR BREAK HIS CANDIDACY BUT ONE OF MANY MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES THEY SEE AS HELPFUL AND BEING ABLE TO PROVE THESE NERVOUS DEMOCRATS WRONG AND THEY SAY THAT DOES THEY TELL THEM WE SEE THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS BEEN PREPPING THROUGHOUT THE WEEK IN BETWEEN THEM THESE WORKING SESSIONS AMID QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS AGE BUT ONE BIG UNKNOWN AT THIS POINT IS REALLY HOW MANY QUESTIONS THE PRESIDENT WILL TAKE FROM REPORTERS AND HOW LONG THIS PRESS CONFERENCE WILL LAST DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS HE TAKES IN THE ROOM. >> DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS ARE VOICING CONCERNS AND WE WILL TALK ABOUT THAT MORE. >>> LET'S TALK ABOUT GEORGE CLOONEY, HE IS HOLDING A MAJOR FUNDRAISER FOR THE PRESIDENT. TELL US HOW SIGNIFICANT THIS I . WHAT WAS IN THERE AND HOW SURPRISED THE WHITE HOUSE WAS CONSIDERING THAT HE JUST RAISED SO MUCH MONEY FOR BIDEN WEEKS AGO. >> GEORGE CLOONEY AND HIS OFFICE IS TALKING ABOUT HIS LIFELONG CAREER AS A DEMOCRAT, WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR DEMOCRATS, HOW HE HAS RAISED A TON OF MONEY AND REMEMBER HE WAS THE ORGANIZER OF THIS HISTORICALLY LARGE AND LUCRATIVE FUNDRAISER FOR THE PRESIDENT JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HE SAID THAT IT WAS BAD EXPERIENCE AT THAT FUNDRAISER ALONG WITH THE DEBATE PERFORMANCE TWO WEEKS AGO NOW THAT IS FORCING HIS HAND AND HE SAYS THIS IS ABOUT ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY, AGE. AND HE SAYS THE ONE BATTLE THAT JOE BIDEN CANNOT WIN IS TIME. NONE OF US CAN. HE SAYS THAT PARTY LEADERS NEED TO STOP TELLING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT 51 MILLION PEOPLE DID NOT SEE WHAT WE SAW ON THAT DEBATE STAGE AND HE ALSO TOUCHES ON WHAT THE PRESIDENT AND THE WHITE HOUSE HAVE BEEN ARGUING WHEN THEY SAY THAT THE PRESIDENT IS IN A POSITION BECAUSE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS THAT GOT HIM TO THIS POINT, THE PRIMARY PROCESS SAYING IT IS INGENUOUS AT BEST TO ARGUE THAT DEMOCRATS HAVE ALREADY SPOKEN WITH THEIR VOTES AND, THEREFORE, THE NOMINATIONS ARE SETTLED AND DONE WHEN HE JUST RECEIVED NEW AND UPSETTING INFORMATION, HE SAYS JOE BIDEN IS A HERO AND SAVED DEMOCRACY IN 2020 AND WE NEED HIM TO DO IT AGAIN. THE WHITE HOUSE IS PUSHING BAC , REFERRING TO THE PRESIDENT -- LETTER THAT THE PRESIDENT SENT THAT HE IS IN IT TO WIN IT AND THEY ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND POINTED TO SEVERAL DEMOCRATS WHO SAY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT. GEORGE CLOONEY IS NOT ONE OF THESE BUT HIS WORDS TO CARRY WEIGHT AND THE MONEY THAT HE IS DOING AND OTHER MAJOR DONORS IN HOLLYWOOD ARE WHAT KEEPS THESE CAMPAIGNS RUNNING, YOU GUYS. >> SPEAKING OF MONEY, WE UNDERSTAND THAT ALL OF THIS HAS A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE BIDEN CAMPAIGNS FUNDRAISING EFFORT. WHAT ARE WE LEARNING ABOUT THIS? >> Reporter: INITIALLY AFTER THE BIDEN CAMPAIGN REPORTED AN UPTICK AMONG DONORS AND YOU HEARD THE PRESIDENT TALK ABOUT THAT IN A NEWS INTERVIEW, THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR UPTAKE ESPECIALLY AMONG GRASSROOTS DONATIONS UNDER $200 IN THE AFTERMATH AND THEY ARE TELLING NBC THAT THAT HAS SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY ACROSS THE BOARD AND THEY ARE CONTINUING TO BRACE FOR A SEISMIC CHANGE IN THE COMING WEEKS. TWO SOURCES SAID THAT THIS MONTH ALONE IS POSSIBLY HALF IF NOT MORE BUT THE BOTTOM TEAM FOR THEIR PART IS DOWNPLAYING THIS AND SAYING, POINTING TO THOSE GRASSROOTS DONATIONS GIVEN AFTER THE DEBATE, SMALL DOLLAR DONATIONS AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT THIS EXPECTED FALLOUT IS NOT GOING TO MAKE A HUGE IMPACT. >>> LET'S GO TO ALLIE VITELLI WHO JOINS US MORE ON THE PRESIDENT. SPECIFICALLY WHAT WE ARE HEARING FROM CONGRESS. NANCY PELOSI, SHE IS THE LATEST AND PROBABLY THE MOST INFLUENTIAL HOUSE MEMBER, CONGRESSWOMAN TO SPEAK ABOUT PRESIDENT BIDEN'S ELECTION CAMPAIGN. LET'S HEAR WHAT SHE SAID ON MORNING JOE. >> IT IS UP TO THE PRESIDENT TO DECIDE IF HE IS GOING TO RUN. WE ARE ALL ENCOURAGING HIM TO MAKE THAT DECISION BECAUSE TIME IS RUNNING SHORT. I WANT HIM TO DO WHATEVER HE DECIDES TO DO AND THAT IS THE WAY IT IS. WHATEVER HE DECIDES TO GO WITH. >> THESE COMMENTS, AS SOURCES TELL YOU AND YOUR COLLEAGUES THAT HOUSE MINORITY LEADER PLANS TO RELATED CONCERNS TO THE PRESIDENT. WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE MAKE OF HER COMMENTS? WHAT ARE SOME OTHER CONCERNS AND HOW DO WE SEE THAT MEETING GOING? >> ON TUESDAY AFTER DEMOCRATS OPENED, THEY HAVE A LONG KIND OF FAMILY SKY EYE -- STYLE DISCUSSION, THEY THINK THAT IS HURTING THE PROCESS BUT THERE WERE A LOT OF CONCERNS AIRED AT THE END OF THE MEETING AT THE END OF THE DAY ON TUESDAY, IT REALLY DID FEEL LIKE SOME OF THE MEMBERS WOULD COME OUT BUT BY AND LARGE, IT FELT LIKE THIS WAS COMING TOWARD SOME KIND OF CONCLUSION AND THAT IS NEARLY 24 HOURS AGO TO THE MINUTE, NANCY PELOSI WENT ON MORNING JOE AND FOR SOMEONE WHO IS ALWAYS VERY SPECIFIC, VERY -- NOTHING HAPPENS BY ACCIDENT, THOSE COMMENTS REALLY REVERBERATED AROUND CAPITOL HILL AND JUST OVER THE LAST FEW MINUTES, GUYS, WE HAVE A NEW STATEMENT FROM HER SPOKESPERSON WHO IS TRYING TO ONCE AGAIN UNDERSCORE THE FACT THAT PELOSI IS PUBLICLY INVITING, HER SPOKESPERSON TELLING US THAT IT IS COMPLETELY FALSE THAT PELOSI TOLD PRESIDENT BIDEN THAT HE NEEDS TO STEP ASIDE AND SPEAKER PELOSI SAID EXPLICITLY THAT MEMBERS SHOULD HOLD OFF ANY PUBLIC STATEMENTS ABOUT CONCERNS ON THE PRESIDENT UNTIL AFTER THE NATO SUMMIT CONCLUDES. THAT IS WHAT I TOOK FROM HER INTERVIEW WHERE SHE WAS PRESSED ON THE BACK -- FACT THAT BIDEN HAS DECIDED THAT HE'S GOING TO STAY IN THE RACE. NEVERTHELESS, WE WILL POTENTIALLY SEE MORE MEMBERS COME FORWARD AND AND I HAVE HEARD FROM OTHER MEMBERS OF CONGRESS WHO SAID THERE ARE MORE MEMBERS WHO WANT TO COME FORWARD TO VOICE THEIR CONCERNS OR TO SAY THAT PRESIDENT BIDEN SHOULD NO LONGER BE THE PARTIES STANDARDBEARER. JUST BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT THE PRESS COVERS THAT THE PRESIDENT WILL GIVE LATER TODAY DOESN'T MEAN THIS IS THE END OF IT. >> THE VERMONT SENATOR IS NOW THE FIRST DEMOCRATIC SENATOR TO CALL FOR THE PRESIDENT TO STEP ASIDE SO WE KNOW THE CAUCUS IS EXPECTED TO MEET WITH SENIOR BIDEN ADVISORS. WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO COVER IN THAT MEETING? >> THIS IS MEANT TO QUELL THE PANIC, QUELL THE FRUSTRATION THAT WE HAVE SEEN FROM SENATORS AND THERE'S A LOT BECAUSE SO MANY OF THESE CONCERNS COME FROM THE FACT THAT SENATORS AND HOUSE MEMBERS THE LIKE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PRESENTED WITH A PLAN TO WIN. THEY DON'T WANT TO SEE THE DATA, THEY DON'T WANT TO ARGUE WITH THE FEELING AND THE VIBES WHICH I CAN TELL YOU ARE BAD, THEY INSTEAD WANT TO FEEL THAT THEY HAVE FACTS AT THEIR FINGERTIPS AND THEY HAVE SEEN FIRST DATA THAT SHOWS THERE IS A PATH FORWARD AND THAT IS WHY THERE IS A SPECIAL MEETING AND A TRIO OF TOP BIDEN CAMPAIGN OFFICIALS, SOME ARE SAYING THE PRESIDENT WILL BE THERE. THE NATO SUMMIT IS STILL ONGOING BUT THERE ARE OTHERS WHO FEEL LIKE THIS IS A MEETING THAT THEY HAVE WANTED FOR A LONG TIME AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT THERE IS NO MEMBER THAT I HAVE SPOKEN TO THAT RELISHES THIS MOMENT THAT THEIR PARTY IS IN. THERE'S A LOT OF LOVE AND RESPECT FOR PRESIDENT BIDEN AND THE ROLE HE HAS PLAYED OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS BUT THE FACT THAT HE HAS BEEN A PERSON WHO HAS BEEN PREVALENT IN WASHINGTON FOR DECADES AS A MEMBER OF THE SENATE, A POWERFUL CHAIR IN THE JUDICIAL CENTER. A LOT OF THESE ARE BEGGING FOR SOMETHING THAT CAN'T ASSUAGE THEIR CONCERNS AND MAKE THEM FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEIR OWN REELECTION CHANCES AND NOT JUST THE PARTIES REELECTION CHANCES AGAINST TRUMP. THIS MEETING WITH THE BIDEN CAMPAIGN OFFICIALS IS A CHANCE TO DO THAT. THERE WAS A QUESTION ABOUT IF IT IS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE BUT THERE IS NOT A WAY TO SHIFT AT THIS POINT. THAT IS REALLY THE OPEN QUESTION ON THE HILL, RIGHT NOW. >> BAD VIBES, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. GOOD TO HAVE YOU. >>> LET'S BRING IN MARK MURRAY FOR MORE. IT IS TWO WEEKS SINCE THE FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN ATLANTA. IT FEELS LIKE LONGER. WALK US THROUGH THE NEW POLLS. WHAT ARE THEY TELLING? >> Reporter: WE HAVE ACTUALLY HAD A WHOLE LOT OF POLES SINCE TWO WEEKS AGO AND FOR THE MOST PART, THEY SHOW THAT RACE HAS AN BUDGED ALL THAT MUCH. SOME POLLS BY CNN SHOWS THE RACE IS IDENTICAL TO WHERE IT WAS BEFORE THE DEBATE AND THE CBS YOU GO POLL SHOWS DONALD TRUMP. IF THERE HAS BEEN SOME MOVEMENT IT HAS BEEN IN DONALD TRUMP'S DIRECTION BUT ALL OF THAT MOVEMENT IS WITHIN THE MARGIN OF ERROR. MANY POLLS SHOW JOE BIDEN TRAVELING INTO THAT DEBATE AND THEY STILL SHOW HIM TRAILING. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU HAVE ONE OR TWO POINT MOVEMENT, THAT CAN BE THE DECISIVE RACE BUT THE DATA DOESN'T NECESSARILY SUGGEST THAT WE HAVE A RADICALLY TRANSFORMED RACE AFTER THE DEBATE. >> THE CONVERSATION HAS BEEN ABOUT THE PRESIDENTS MENTAL CONDITION. WHAT ARE VOTERS SAYING BOUT THE ABILITY OF EACH OF THEM TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT? >> Reporter: WE END UP TALKING ABOUT HOW THE RACE HASN'T CHANGED THAT MUCH IN THE POLLS BUT WHAT HAS CHANGED IS PERCEPTION ABOUT PRESIDENT BIDEN'S COGNITIVE AND MENTAL HEALTH WHICH HAS ACTUALLY GOTTEN WORSE IN A CBS NEWS POLL, 65% HAVE BIG CONCERNS ABOUT BIDEN'S MENTAL HEALTH AND COGNITIVE HEALTH OF BEING PRESIDENT AND THAT HAS JUMPED UP TO 72%. THAT IS KIND OF SIGNIFICANT, WHAT HAS BEEN A LIABILITY FOR PRESIDENT BIDEN HAS GOTTEN A LITTLE BIT WORSE. >> THE NATIONAL POLLS ARE ONE THING BUT WE DO HAVE AN AND TWIRL COLLEGE. LET'S -- WHAT IS THE POLLING TELLING US ABOUT THOSE BATTLEGROUND STATES? >> Reporter: THE BEST CAME THROUGH THE BLOOMBERG POLL WHICH SHOWS THAT THE RACE WAS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME BEFORE THE DEBATE AS AFTER. WHAT IS SIGNIFICANT IS, THE RACE IS WHERE PRESIDENT BIDEN SEEMS TO BE RUNNING BETTER AGAINST DONALD TRUMP ARE IN THOSE KEY STATES OF MICHIGAN WITH WISCONSIN AND PENNSYLVANIA BUT IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA, GEORGIA AND NEVADA, PRESIDENT BIDEN HAS BEEN TRAILING BEFORE THE DEBATE AND TRAILS AND A LOT OF THE CONSENSUS AFTERWARDS AND IT IS NOTED IN THE POLITICAL REPORT, ENDED UP MOVING STATES LIKE NEVADA, ARIZONA AND JUDGE HER -- GEORGIA INTO THE MAIN CATEGORY. >>> THERE IS ONLY FOUR MORE DAYS UNTIL THE START OF THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION AND THE FORMER PRESIDENT IS BACK ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AND TAKING ON PRESIDENT BIDEN. >> Reporter: DONALD TRUMP BACK ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL, NEWLY LASHING OUT AT PRESIDENT BIDEN'S DEBATE PERFORMANCE. >> HIS OWN PARTY WANTS HIM TO GROW AND SURRENDER THE PRESIDENCY AFTER A SINGLE 90 MINUTE PERFORMANCE. >> Reporter: MR. TRUMP SUGGESTING WITHOUT EVIDENCE THAT PRESIDENT BIDEN PORT DEBATE PERFORMANCE WAS THE CULMINATION OF A DEMOCRATIC COVER-UP. >> THEY ARE ALL CO-CONSPIRATORS TO DESTROY THE AMERICAN PUBLIC ABOUT THE COGNITIVE ABILITIES OF THE MAN IN THE OVAL OFFICE. >> Reporter: THE FORMER PRESIDENT FACED QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS OWN MENTAL FITNESS FROM WITHIN HIS OWN PARTY AS RECENTLY AS THE GOP PRIMARY. >> THAT WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE PRESSURES OF THE PRESIDENCY, WE CANNOT HAVE SOMEONE ELSE THAT WE QUESTION WHETHER THEY ARE MENTALLY FIT TO DO THIS. >> Reporter: MR. TRUMP PREVIEWING THE PLATFORM HE WILL PROMOTE AT NEXT WEEK'S REPUBLICAN CONVENTION. >> WE WILL BEGIN THE DEPORTATION OPERATION. WE HAVE NO CHOICE. >> Reporter: AND TEASING HIS UPCOMING CHOICE OF A RUNNING MATE EXPECTED TO COME FROM A SHORT LIST INCLUDING MARCO RUBIO . >> WE KNOW WHO OUR NOMINEE IS. AND HIS NAME IS --? >> Reporter: IN A RADIO INTERVIEW, HE SAID HE WAS PRETTY WELL SET ON HIS BP SELECTION BUT MIGHT WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK TO ANNOUNCE HIS CHOICE, DRAWING OUT THE DRAMA FOR MAXIMUM POLITICAL IMPACT. >>> MARYLAND LAWMAKERS ARE CALLING ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PAY TO REBUILD THE FRANCIS SCOTT KEY BRIDGE WHICH COLLAPSED IN BALTIMORE AFTER IT WAS HIT BY A CARGO SHIP . NOW, THE SOLE SURVIVOR FROM THAT COLLAPSE IS SPEAKING OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME. MORE THAN THREE MONTHS LATER, HE TELLS TOM LLAMAS HOW HE HAD TO FIGHT FOR HIS LIFE. >> TRAFFIC ON THE KEY BRIDGE, THERE IS A SHIP APPROACHING AND THEY HAVE JUST LOST THEIR STEERING. >> Reporter: WHEN THE DALI CAUSED IT TO COLLAPSE, CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WERE HURLED INTO THE RIVER. SIX OF THE WORKERS WOULD DIE. ALL BUT JULIO. >> Reporter: THIS IMAGE IS FROZEN IN YOUR HEAD? WHY? >> Translator: IT IS THE SHIP THAT DESTROYED SIX FAMILIES, HE SAYS. JUST BEFORE 130 A.M., AS THE DALI WAS MAKING ITS WAY OUT OF THE KEY BRIDGE, HE AND HIS CREW WERE ON A BREAK TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE BRIDGE. >> THERE IS A SHIP APPROACHING THAT HAS JUST LOST THEIR STEERING. STOP ALL TRAFFIC. >> Reporter: THOUGH POLICE HAD BEEN ALERTED, THEY SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA THAT THE 947 FOOT LONG VESSEL WAS ABOUT TO HIT THE BRIDGE. HE SAYS, SUDDENLY, EVERYTHING STARTED TO SHAKE AND COWORKERS ALL SLID INTO THE WATER ONE BY ONE. AND THEN, HE. >> Reporter: DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR HEAD AS YOU ARE FALLING INTO THE WATER? >> Translator: I THOUGHT HE MIGHT NEVER GET OUT, HE SAYS. HE SAYS HE THANKED GOD AND ASKED HIM TO TAKE CARE OF HIS WIFE AND FAMILY AND ASKED HIM FOR FORGIVENESS FOR EVERYTHING HE HAD DONE. WHEN THE WATER STARTED TO FILL THE TRUCK, HE REALIZED HE WAS ALIVE. HE ROLLED A WINDOW DOWN AND GOT OUT OF HIS TRUCK BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER PROBLEM. >> Reporter: DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SWIM? >> Reporter: HE SAYS HE FLOATED TO A PIECE OF THE BRIDGE AND STARTED TO CALL OUT FOR HIS COWORKERS. >> ALEJANDRO. MIGUEL. >> Reporter: BUT HE HEARD NOTHING. AMONG THOSE WHO DIED, HIS BROTHER-IN-LAW AND HIS 18-YEAR OLD NEPHEW WHO HE CONSIDERED A SON. HE WISHES HE COULD HAVE ONE LAST CONVERSATION WITH THEM AND THANK THEM FOR BEING A PART OF HIS LIFE. LAWYERS REPRESENTING FIVE OF THE VICTIMS INCLUDING SAVANT IS CLAIMED TO FILE SUIT IN THE COMING WEEKS AGAINST ALL COMPANIES INVOLVED WITH THE SHIP. THE NTSB HAS REPORTED THE SHIP HAD POWER TROUBLED IN THE DAYS LEADING TO THE DISASTER. >> THEY HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES NOT JUST BEFORE HITTING THE BRIDGE BUT BEFORE GETTING TO THE SPORT. >> IMAGINE BEING ON A BRIDGE AND WATCHING FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS DROP ONE BY ONE BY ONE BEFORE YOU. >> OUR THANKS TO TOM LLAMAS FOR BRINGING US THAT STORY. STOP THIS MORNING, TENS OF MILLIONS OF AMERICANS ARE UNDER DANGEROUS HEAT ALERTS AND NOW THE RECORD-BREAKING TEMPERATURES ARE BEING BLAMED FOR DOZENS OF HEAT -RELATED DEATHS IN THE UNITED STATES. ERIN McLAUGHLIN IS IN WASHINGTON DC WHERE IT IS SO HOT. AND OUTDOOR WAX ART INSTALLATION, IT IS MELTING. >> Reporter: IT HAS BEEN SWELTERING HERE IN WASHINGTON DC . I WANT YOU TO CHECK SOMETHING OUT BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT REMAINS OF A WAX WORK REPLICA OF THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL INSTALLED OUTSIDE OF THIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BACK IN FEBRUARY. NOW, A MELTED MASS. THE ARTIST TELLS US THEY ALWAYS KNEW IT COULD POTENTIALLY MELT. IT IS MADE OF WAX. JUST NOT THIS QUICKLY. AN ILLUSTRATION OF JUST HOW HOT IT HAS BEEN IN THE CAPITOL. AND ALSO, TO PUT THINGS IN CONSIDERATION WITH THIS HEATWAVE, THE NATO SECURITY SUMMIT, HE IS IN CHARGE OF THE SECURITY AT THE CAPITOL FOR DOZENS OF WORLD LEADERS AND TO HIM, THE GREATEST THREAT IS THE HEAT, THE EXTREME TEMPERATURES BECAUSE THESE EXTREME TEMPERATURES CAN BE DEADLY, CONTRIBUTING TO MORE THAN THREE DOZEN DEATHS ACROSS AT LEAST SIX STATES. WE ARE ALSO SEEING RECORD TEMPERATURES CONTINUING OUT WEST WITH LAS VEGAS HITTING AT LEAST 118 DEGREES ON BACK-TO BACK DAYS. FOR THE FOLKS IN HOUSTON, MORE THAN 1 MILLION WITHOUT POWER AFTER HURRICANE BERYL CAUSED DAMAGE. REMNANTS OF THAT STORM CAUSING HAVOC IN THE NORTHEAST INCLUDING TWO DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES OVERNIGHT IN UPSTATE NEW YORK AND SPEAKING OF DOCTORS, IF YOU ARE SUFFERING ANY SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION INCLUDING MUSCLE ACHES, HEADACHES, THE KEY IS TO ACT QUICKLY, COOL OFF AS FAST AS YOU CAN. STAY INSIDE AND STAY HYDRATED. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH. >>> LET'S GET MORE FROM ANGIE LASSMAN. >> WE HAVE PLENTY OF THESE HEAT ALERTS. YOU HEARD HOW AARON SAID IT IS HAPPENING OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. PLENTY OF ALERTS, 53 MILLION PEOPLE INCLUDING MAJOR CITIES IN SALT LAKE CITY, LAS VEGAS, L.A. , PHOENIX AND HOUSTON, THESE ARE GOING TO BE SPOTS THAT THE TEMPERATURES GET WAY ABOVE NORMAL ONCE AGAIN, TODAY. LAS VEGAS, THE RECORD, 116 AND WE ARE EXPECTING 118. PALM SPRINGS, MAYBE NOT A RECORD BUT 119 DEGREES. PHOENIX AT 115 AND NOT A RECORD BUT STILL UNCOMFORTABLE. UP AND DOWN CALIFORNIA AND OUT TOWARD THE ROCKIES, SALT LAKE CITY EXPECTED TO HIT 105 THIS AFTERNOON. INTO THE WEEKEND, A LOT OF FOLKS HAVE OUTDOOR PLANS AND WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF NEWS WHEN IT COMES TO DWINDLING TEMPERATURES. WE HAVE 116 IN LAS VEGAS ON FRIDAY BUT BY THE TIME WE GET TO SUNDAY, A LITTLE BIT OF AND IMPROVEMENT. WE WILL TAKE WHAT WE CAN GET BUT 109 ON SUNDAY. WE HAVE 117 FOR FRIDAY IN PALM SPRINGS ENDING UP AT 111 BY SUNDAY. SALT LAKE CITY, MORE OF THE SAME AND THE TRIPLE DIGITS ARE GOING TO STAY WITH US. THAT IS WHAT IS GOING ON AS FAR AS THE HEAT IS CONCERNED. ACROSS THE NORTHEAST, WAS ALL QUITE ENOUGH TO -- QUITE INACTIVE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ALL OF THAT WILL WIND DOWN, TODAY. AND YOU CAN ALREADY SEE MUCH OF THAT RAIN DRAPED ACROSS PARTS OF MADE BUT WE ARE LOOKING QUIETER FOR THIS REGION. WE DO STILL HAVE SOME FLIGHT ALERTS IN EFFECT. WE FINALLY GOT RID OF THOSE FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS. UP ACROSS THE REGION STRETCHING FROM NEW YORK TO MAINE, JUST A HEADS UP THAT WE COULD STILL SEE SOME STANDING WATER. AS YOU GET OUT FOR YOUR MORNING DRIVE, THAT IS SOMETHING TO WATCH FOR. THAT IS THE PRODUCT WE WILL BE WATCHING OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS WILL BE DRAPED ACROSS THE EAST COAST AND THIS LEAVES US UNSETTLED. YOU CAN SEE PARTS OF THE MID ATLANTIC WHERE WE WATCH FOR RAIN TO DEVELOP NEAR THAT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM BUT THE FLOODING WILL BE AN ISSUE FOR FOX. IT IS NOT GOING TO BE ANYTHING LIKE WHAT WE SAW FROM HURRICANE BERYL BUT IT COULD IMPACT SOME OF THOSE AFTERNOON PLANS. NOT A GREAT DAY TO BE AT THE BEACH. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT IS ON YOUR DOCKET FOR SATURDAY ACROSS THAT REGION. RAINFALL AMOUNTS, ONE TO THREE INCHES. COASTAL CAROLINA COULD SEE UPWARDS OF FIVE INCHES. MEANWHILE, IT IS HOT. THE HUMIDITY WILL STAY IN PLACE FOR THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY, SPECIFICALLY, THE SOUTHEAST. THAT HEAVY RAIN IS WHAT WE WATCH ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST, AS WELL. WE FINALLY HAVE QUIETER CONDITIONS FOR THE NORTHEAST BY THE TIME SUNDAY ROLLS AROUND BUT THE HEAT CONTINUES. THE NORTHEAST, WE ARE A LITTLE LESS HUMID, TODAY. WE HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THE ALERTS EXPIRE. THEY JUST CANNOT CATCH A BREAK. >>> MUCH MORE TO COME, ORE STATES PASSING BANS ON PHONES IN THE CLASSROOM BUT SUPPORTERS SAY IT IS A MATTER OF MENTAL HEALTHW. >>> WELCOME BACK. VIRGINIA HAS JOINED THE STATES AND CRACKING DOWN ON CELL PHONES IN THE CLASSROOM. GOVERNOR GLENN YOUNGKIN ISSUING AN EXECUTIVE ORDER REQUIRING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO COME UP WITH POLICY GUIDANCE FOR CREATING A PHONE-FREE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. >> DUNCAN ALSO ANNOUNCED PLANS TO INVEST HALF A MILLION DOLLARS TO SUPPORT THIS EFFORT WHICH HE SAYS IS A MENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE. >> WE ARE JOINED BY FAMILY. GOOD MORNING. ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE YOU HERE. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INITIAL THOUGHTS SEEING THE GOVERNMENT GET HANDS ON THIS ISSUE? WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT HOW MUCH PHONES DO INTERFERE WITH A KIDS LEARNING? >> Reporter: THEY DO INTERFERE A LOT. THEY ARE A MAJOR DISTRACTION. EVEN IF THE PHONE IS --, THEY ARE OFTEN CHECKING THEM. KIDS MULTITASK AND THEY ARE LOOKING AT THEIR PHONE AND WHAT ARE THEY MISSING IN THAT EDUCATIONAL PROCESS TO BUILD GREATER SKILLS OVER TIME? >> CLEARLY, KIDS ARE GROWING UP IN A DIFFERENT WORLD THAN THE PREVIOUS GENERATION DID, USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO WRITE THEIR HOMEWORK, NOT GREAT BUT THEY ARE DOING IT. HOW DO WE BALANCE THAT? THIS IS PART OF OUR LIVES, RIGHT NOW. IT FEELS AS IF IT COULD BE GOING AGAINST THE TIDE IN SOME WAYS, RIGHT? >> Reporter: I THINK YOU USED A KEYWORD WHICH IS BALANCE. I THINK WHAT WE HAVE NOT DONE A GREAT JOB OF IS TEACHING OVERALL AND I THINK THE WAY TO MOVE BACK TO THE OTHER SIDE, ULTIMATELY, WE WILL HAVE TO SETTLE IN THE MIDDLE BECAUSE WE ARE MOVING TOWARD MORE AND MORE. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS ARE ONLINE AND ALL OF THESE THINGS SO WHERE DOES THAT END. I THINK THE BALANCED PIECE OF IT IS WHERE WE NEED THE MOST LEVERAGE. >> THE OTHER THING IS HOW THIS IMPACTS THE MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS MENTIONED IN THIS SECULAR EXECUTIVE ORDER. DO YOU THINK THESE POLICIES MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THAT REGARD? DEVELOPMENT, HAPPINESS AND FEELINGS OF LONELINESS, HOW CAN THIS HELP? >> Reporter: WE DON'T KNOW YET WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WILL BE BUT I DO THINK WE HAVE TO MAKE SOME CHANGES BECAUSE WE KNOW THERE IS A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. WE KNOW THAT MUCH OF IT ALIGNS WITH THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND HOW MUCH WE ARE LIVING LIFE OUT LOUD AND HOW KIDS ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO HANDLE THAT, ADULTS ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO HANDLE THAT SO HOW ARE WE EXPECTING BRAINS TO DEVELOP? AGAIN, IT GOES BACK TO WHAT WE ARE TEACHING AT HOME, WHAT WE ARE TEACHING IN SCHOOLS AND HOW TO INTERPRET ALL OF THESE THINGS SO THAT WE CAN TEACH THEM TO UNDERSTAND AND NAVIGATE IT AT HER BECAUSE IT IS NOT GOING TO GO AWAY. WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO LIVE WITH IT AND NOT AGAINST IT. >> BALANCE, EASIER SAID THAN DONE. WHAT ARE SOME WAYS THAT SCHOOLS CAN FIND THAT HEALTHY BALANCE WHEN IT COMES TO SCHOOL KIDS? >> Reporter: I:THIS IS A LESSON THAT ALL OF US ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT. UNDERSTANDING AND IDENTIFYING THE ROLES AT HOME AS ADULTS AND WHAT ARE THE LIMITS YOU HAVE FOR YOURSELF AND HOW ARE YOU MODELING THAT? THAT CAN TRANSLATE INTO SCHOOL. SOME TEACHERS USE IT WITHIN THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS. HOW DO WE TEACH WHERE IT IS HELPFUL AND WHERE IT IS HARMFUL AND ULTIMATELY, ARE WE TALKING TO OUR KIDS ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING AT? ARE WE ASKING THEM TO SHOW US? ARE WE TEACHING THEM WHAT IS HEALTHY AND WHAT IS UNHEALTHY? THESE COMPUTERS IN THEIR POCKETS, AND WE EXPECT THEM TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. LET'S TEACH THEM RESPONSIBLE WAYS TO USE THIS TECHNOLOGY SO THEY DO NOT HAVE ALL OF THESE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES MOVING FORWARD. >>> COMING UP, A WARNING FROM DOCTORS ABOUT NICOTINE PATCHES MADE POPULAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA. >> THEY ARE BEING BILLED AS A SAFER WAY TO GET YOUR NICOTINE FIX BUT THERE ARE SOME RISKS. >>> LESTER HOLT, AMERICA'S MOST TRUSTED NEWS ANCHOR. >>> WE ARE BACK NOW WITH GROWING HEALTH CONCERNS DUE TO A SPIKE IN USE OF NICOTINE POUCHES. SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCES HAVE BEEN PROMOTING THEM CAUSING DOCTORS TO WARN THEY ARE BECOMING DANGEROUSLY POPULAR AMONG TEENAGERS AND YOUNG ADULTS. VICKY NGUYEN BRINGS US MORE ON THE RISKS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT. >> Reporter: PROBABLY A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO GET NICOTINE WITHOUT ALL OF THE OTHER HARMFUL STUFF. >> Reporter: PEOPLE TOUTING POUCHES PROMOTED AS SAFER THAN CIGARETTES BECAUSE THEY ARE TOBACCO FREE. THE MOST POPULAR BRAND SURGING IN SALES WITH 131 MILLION SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES IN JUST THE FIRST THREE MONTHS OF THE YEAR. >> Reporter: HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL? >> IT GIVES YOU A SHOT OF DOPAMINE. YOU FEEL ENERGIZED, HAPPIER, ALMOST FOCUSED. >> Reporter: HE SAYS HE QUICKLY BECAME ADDICTED LIKE CHEWING TOBACCO OR TRADITIONAL CIGARETTES, THE POUCHES ARE DISCRETE AND COME IN FLAVORS LIKE COFFEE, CITRUS OR MINT AND HE WAS USING UP TO 20 A DAY. >> YOU PUT IT IN YOUR LIP AND LEAVE IT THERE AFTER 30 MINUTES. >> Reporter: HE STARTED HAVING STOMACH PAIN BUT DOCTORS DID NOT KNOW WHY. >> I GOT AN ULTRASOUND AND A COLONOSCOPY AND ALL THAT THEY FOUND IS THAT MY STOMACH WAS INFLAMED. >> Reporter: THE DOCTOR SAID NICOTINE IS A HIGHLY ADDICT DRUNK WITH GASTROINTESTINAL ISSUES, MOUTH ULCERS AND AN ELEVATED HEART RATE. >> Reporter: WHY DO YOU THINK THESE ARE SO POPULAR? >> ONE IS FLAVOR AND IT IS EASIER TO HIDE IF YOU ARE USING A POUCH. >> Reporter: MULTIPLE MEDICAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE ASKED THE AGENCY TO HALT SALES. CHUCK SCHUMER ALSO ASKING FOR A CRACKDOWN ON THE MARKETING OF THESE PRODUCTS. >> THIS ONE POUCH CAN BE HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. >> Reporter: PHILLIP MORRIS SAYS IT IS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING PRODUCTS THAT ARE SCIENTIFICALLY SUBSTANTIATED AS A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO CONTINUE SMOKING THEN MARKETING DIRECTED AT USERS THAT ARE 21 YEARS OF AGE AND UP. >> THE REDLINE WAS MY ARRESTED HEART RATE FROM QUITTING. IT SHOWED ME 10 BEATS PER MINUTE LOWER THE WEEK AFTER I QUIT. >> Reporter: AFTER RESEARCHING HIS SYMPTOMS ONLINE, HE QUIT THE POUCHES. SIX MONTHS LATER, HE SAYS HE STILL HAS CRAVINGS. >> IF I HAD KNOWN THAT IT WAS GOING TO CAUSE ME SO MANY HEALTH ISSUES, I WOULD NOT HAVE STARTED. >> Reporter: VICKY NGUYEN, STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT. >>> HIGH PRICES ARE IMPACTING JUST ABOUT EVERYONE BUT A NEW REPORT FROM BANK OF AMERICA SHOWED TODAY'S PRICES ARE HITTING GEN ZERS THE HARDEST. >> THEY FIND THAT MORE THAN HALF OF THE ADULTS SURVEYED FROM 18 TO 27 SAY THAT THOSE PRICES ARE THE TOP REASON THEY CANNOT FIND FINANCIAL SUCCESS. >> HERE TO HELP US BREAK DOWN THE REPORT IS HOLLY O'NEILL. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US. THE SURVEY SHOWS NEARLY HALF OF GEN ZERS ARE STILL GETTING FINANCIAL HELP FROM THEIR PARENTS. JUST HOW HARD IS THIS FOR A YOUNGER GENERATION TO BUILD WEALTH RIGHT NOW IN 2024? >> Reporter: WE ARE HEARING FROM GEN ZERS THAT IT IS HARD, DISPROPORTIONATELY HARD. AND AS YOU SAID, OVER HALF OF THEM FEEL THAT IT IS A BARRIER. THEY ARE FILLING THE HIGH COST OF LIVING. AND WHAT IS CAUSING THEM, THEY ARE DELAYING BIG MILESTONES SO HALF OF THEM ARE NOT ON TRACK TO BUY A HOME. 46% HAVE NOT STARTED SAVING FOR RETIREMENT AND ABOUT 40% OF THEM ALSO DO NOT SEE THEMSELVES SAVING OR INVESTING. SO THEY ARE DELAYING SOME OF THOSE BIG MILESTONES THAT YOU HAVE EARLIER IN LIFE. >> THEY ARE NOT SAVING. ALMOST 1/3, IN FACT. THEY SAY THEY WOULD LIKE TO BUT THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO DO THAT. THOSE THAT PRIORITIZE FINANCES, WHAT DID YOU FIND OUT HOW GEN Z IS DEALING AND TRYING TO MAKE THOSE ENDS MEET? >> Reporter: GEN Z IS DEFINITELY ADJUSTING THEIR SPENDING. THEY ARE TRYING TO SPEND LESS OF THEIR INCOME, THEY ARE CHANGING LIFESTYLES, DINING OUT LESS AND THEY ARE SHOPPING AT MORE AFFORDABLE GROCERY STORES. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THEY KNOW THEY NEED A PATH AND THEY ARE ADJUSTING THEIR SPENDING TO HELP THEM GET THERE. >> THESE ISSUES DON'T JUST IMPACT TODAY BUT THEY CAN HAVE A MAJOR IMPACT ON YOUR FUTURE PLANS SO HOW DOES GEN Z FEEL ABOUT REACHING FINANCIAL GOALS IF THEY CAN SAVE, WHAT CAN THAT FUTURE? >> Reporter: I ALWAYS TELL GEN Z THAT THEY HAVE TO START BY CREATING A BUDGET. EVEN IF THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE HIGH COST OF LIVING, TODAY, THEY CAN CREATE A BUDGET. THEY CAN GET OUT THERE AND SET THEMSELVES SOME FINANCIAL GOALS, BUY HOMES, SAVE FOR RETIREMENT AND SEEK OUT FINANCIAL EDUCATION AND I ALWAYS ADVISE, START SAVING EARLY EVEN IF IT IS A SMALL AMOUNT ON A WEEKLY OR MONTHLY BASIS. >> WHAT ARE THE TOP WAYS FOR YOUNG ADULTS TO GET ON THE RIGHT FINANCIAL TRACK EVEN THOUGH THE COST OF LIVING IS SO HIGH? THE RENT IS SUPERHIGH AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO START? >> THE BUDGET IS NUMBER ONE AND A GOOD GUIDELINE FOR YOUR BUDGET IS 15% OF YOUR TAKE-HOME PAY ON THE ESSENTIALS, RENT, UTILITIES AND FOOD. SECOND IS 30% ON SOME OF THE DISCRETIONARY SPENDING, GOING OUT, ENTERTAINMENT. AND 20% IS FOR EMERGENCY SAVING SO THAT IS A GREAT WAY TO START. SET A BUDGET FOR 50, 30, 20 GUIDELINES IS A GOOD PLACE TO START. >> THAT IS A GOOD STARTING PLACE AND SEE WHERE YOU'RE GOING AND ORGANIZE YOUR SPENDING AND YOU CAN ADJUST. >> THOSE ARE GREAT TIPS. >> THANK YOU FOR JOINING US AND BRINGING US THAT USEFUL ADVICE. >>> A RECENT SURVEY FINDS MOST AMERICANS ARE FEELING THE IMPACT. >> WE HAVE THAT AND OTHER MONEY NEWS. >> NEARLY 80% OF ADULTS SAY THEIR FINANCES HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY RISING ENERGY COSTS. A NEW SURVEY FINDS OVER ONE THIRD OF AMERICANS ARE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR HOME ENERGY COSTS THIS SUMMER AND ROUGHLY 30% ARE RELYING ON FINANCING OR PAYMENT PLANS TO COVER THOSE COSTS. THEY ARE ALSO TAKING STEPS TO TRY TO REDUCE THEIR ENERGY BILLS BY USING ENERGY EFFICIENT PRODUCTS, A SMART OR PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT INCLUDING HOME AND USING SMART PLUGS OR OUTLETS. >>> COSTCO IS RAISING ITS MEMBERSHIP FEE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2017, THE BASIC MEMBERSHIP WILL GO UP BY $5.00 AND $55 A YEAR. THE CHANGES GO INTO EFFECT IN SEPTEMBER AND WILL AFFECT ABOUT 52 MILLION MEMBERS. COSTCO HAS TYPICALLY RAISED NUMBER SHIP FEES EVERY FIVE YEARS OR SO. THE COMPANY HAS TOLD US ABOUT THIS MOVE FOR MONTHS SAYING LAST FALL, IT WAS A QUESTION OF WHEN AND NOT IF. >>> JOY AND ELATION. INSIDE-OUT 2 IS THE HIGHEST GROSSING FILM IN PIXAR HISTORY EARNING $1.25 MILLION WORLDWIDE. IT IS ALSO NOW THE FOURTH HIATUS -- HIGHEST ANIMATED MOVIE OF ALL TIMES. I SAW THIS BUT I WANT TO GO AND SEE THEM. >> IS RICH AND EMOTION? [ LAUGHTER ] >>> SPEAKING OF, A BILLION DOLLAR DONATION. >>> WE WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO ONE OF THE MANY STUDENTS NOW ABLE TO ATTEND MED SCHOOL FOR FREE IN >>> WELCOME BACK, IF YOU WERE A KID THAT DREAMED OF HAVING YOUR VERY OWN DINOSAUR, IT TURNS OUT THAT IT IS NOT TOO LATE. SOUTHER BEES IS AUCTIONING OFF A 150 BILLION-YEAR-OLD SKELETON, THE LARGEST AND MOST COMPLETE EVER FOUND AT 11 FEET TALL, 27 FEET LONG. IT WAS DISCOVERED IN 2022 IN COLORADO'S MORRISON FORMATION. BIDDING STARTS NEXT WEEK AT $3 MILLION AND COULD REACH AS HIGH AS $6 MILLION. WHAT DO YOU SAY? LET'S ALL CHIP IN. >> I AM SORT OF SURPRISED THEY ARE AUCTIONING IT. >> I LOVE IT. WE HAVE AN ACTIVE COUPLE OF DAYS WHEN IT COMES TO FLOODING AN STORMS THAT WILL WIND DOWN FOR THIS REGION AS WE GET THROUGH THE REST OF THE DAY TODAY. WE WILL SEE THINGS FOCUSED T THE SOUTH. AS YOU HEAD OUT THIS MORNING, MILLION PEOPLE UNDER A FLOOD ALERT. BY MIDDAY, MOST OF IT WILL B GONE BUT YOU MAY RUN INTO SOME SPOTS THAT HAVE PONDING ON THE ROADWAY AND SUCH THIS IS THE AREA WE WILL WATCH AS WE GET INTO THE WEEKEND WE HAVE A FRONT THAT STALLS AN LEAVES US FOR THE POTENTIAL OF HEAVY RAIN TO DEVELOP, ESPECIALLY IN PARTS OF THE MID-ATLANTIC THROUGH THE WEEKEND. CHLOE MELAS IS JOINING US FROM SANTA FE WITH THE LATEST NEWS. GOOD MORNING >> Reporter: GOOD MORNING. THINGS GOT HEATED YESTERDAY IN THE COURTROOM BETWEEN THE NE MEXICO SPECIAL PROSECUTORS AND BALDWIN'S LEGAL DEFENSE TEAM BOTH SIDES WERE LAYING OUT THEIR CASES FOR HOW THEY THINK THE GUN WENT OUT AND HOW IT HAPPENED O THE SET OF RUST IN 2021. THE JURY IN BALDWIN'S CRIMINAL TRIAL HAS SEEN THE GRANTIC AFTERMATH ON THE SCENE OF RUST WHERE THE FILM'S CINEMATOGRAPHER WAS FEATALLY SHOT IN 2021. >> THIS WAS AN UNSPEAKABLE TRAGEDY BUT ALEC BALDWIN COMMITTED NO CRIME HE WAS AN ACTOR ACTING >> Reporter: BALDWIN FACES A CHARGE OF INVOLUNTAR MANSLAUGHTER HE LISTENED INTENTLY IN OPENIN STATEMENTS HIS WIFE WAS IN THE COURTROOM. HIS LAWYER ARGUED THAT EVEN IF HE FIRED THE GUN, HE SHOULD NO BE FOUND GUILTY. >> EVEN IF HE INTENTIONALL PULLED THE TRIGGER, THAT DOESN'T MAKE HIM GUILTY OF HOMICIDE. HE HAD NO REASON TO KNOW THE GUN WAS LOADED WITH A LIVE BULLET. >> Reporter: STILL THEY MAINTAIN THE GUN ACCIDENTLY DISCHARGED. BALDWIN HAS REPEATEDLY DENIE THAT HE PULLED THE TRIGGER >> THE TRIGGER WASN'T PULLED I DIDN'T PULL THE TRIGGER. >> Reporter: THE PROSECUTION WANTS TO SHOW HE WAS NEGLIGENT WITH THE FIREARM DURING FILMING. >> HE COOKS IT, POINTS IT AT MS. HUTCHINS AND PULLS THE TRIGGER >> Reporter: BUT THE DEFENSE SAYS IT WAS NOT BALDWIN'S JOB AS AN ACTOR TO MAKE SURE THE GU WAS SAFE >> THERE WERE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF THE FIREAR AND THEY FAILED. >> Reporter: HIS LAWYERS PLAYE A PORTION OF THE 911 CALL IN WHICH THE CALLER CALLS THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR THIS. ONE WITNESS TESTIFIED THAT MULTIPLE LIVE ROUNDS WERE FOUN ON SET, THE DEFENSE WORKED T DISTANCE BALDWIN FROM BLAME. PROSECUTORS INSIST THAT TH ACTOR DID NOT FOLLOW INDUSTR STANDARDS. >> SET SAFETY RULES REQUIR ACTORS LIKE THE DEFENDANT TO TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS THOUGH IT IS LOADED, TO NEVER POINT FIREARM AT ANOTHER PERSON. >> Reporter: AFTER OPENING STATEMENTS, WE HEARD FROM FIRS RESPONDERS ON THE SCENE THAT DAY WHEN HELENA HUTCHINS AND JOE SOUZA WERE SHOT BY THE BULLET. THINGS WERE HEATED WHEN THE JURY WOULD LEAVE THE COURTROOM. YOU COULD SEE BALDWIN TAKING NOTES AND HE WAS LISTENING THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND ALSO IN THE COURTROOM, LIC I SAID IN MY PIECE, FOR SOME O HIS FAMILY MEMBERS, WIFE BROTHER STEVEN, SISTER ELIZABETH, HE IS GETTING A LOT OF SUPPORT FROM HIS FAMILY >> ALL RIGHT THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND HAPP BIRTHDAY THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TODAY >>> LET'S TALK ABOUT MORE ON WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FOR THE TRIAL WITH ANGELA CENEDELLA. PROSECUTORS ARE TRYING T DESCRIBE BALDWIN AS RECKLESS TALK ABOUT THIS ARGUMENT, IS I EFFECTIVE? >> RECKLESSNESS IS A FORMULA IT BREAKS DOWN TO TWO PARTS. YOU HAVE TO PROVE THERE IS A RESPONSIBILITY THAT THE PERSON HAD AND THAT THE PERSON SHIRKE THE RESPONSIBILITY SO WE WILL SEE IN THIS TRIAL S MUCH DEBATE OVER THE FIRST PART. WHAT WERE BALDWIN' RESPONSIBILITIES AS AN ACTOR O THE SET. IT IS SO INTERESTING WE SAW PROSECUTION'S OPENING STATEMENTS IN WHICH SHE SAID THAT HE BROKE THE CARDINAL RULES OF SAFETY, SETTING IT UP THA THERE WERE RULES THAT HE BROKE WE CAN EXPECT THAT THERE WILL BE A WITNESS THAT WELL SAY HE SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE GUN, SHOULDN'T HAVE POINTED IT EVER AT SOMEONE AND THIRD H SHOULDN'T HAVE PUT THE HAN ANYWHERE NEAR THE TRIGGER IF H DIDN'T INTEND TO PULL IT >> HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO NOT POINT THE GUN AT SOMEONE WHEN YOU ARE SEEING THEM POINT GUNS AT EACH OTHER IN A MOVIE? >> SO THE PROSECUTION HA FORESHADOWED THAT THE DIRECTOR SAID PULL IT SLOWLY OUT OF THE HOLSTER AND DIDN'T TELL HIM TO POINT IT AT ANYONE THE ARGUMENT IS THAT IF HE WAS GOING TO POINT IT AT SOMEONE ADINDICATED IN THE SCRIPT, H SHOULD HAVE CHECKED IT THAT'S THE ARGUMENT. >> WHAT IS THE DIFFERENC BETWEEN INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER AND MURDER WHAT NEEDS TO BE PROVED FO THOSE CHARGES? >> HUGE DIFFERENCE AND THE MAI DIFFERENCE IS INTENT WITH MANSLAUGHTER, YOU DON'T T HAVE TO PROVE HE INTENDED TO KILL HUTCHINS. ALL THE PROSECUTION HAS TO PROVE IS THAT HE WAS RECKLESS, DEVIATED FROM THE STANDARD O RESPONSIBILITY AND THAT RESULTED IN THE WOMAN'S DEATH >> RIGHT NOW BALDWIN IS NOT ON THE WITNESS LIST WHAT ARE THE ODDS THAT H TESTIFIES? >> NO CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNE WOULD ADVISE A DEFENDANT LIK THIS TO TAKE THE STAND BUT IT IS HIS RIGHT. BUT THERE IS A BIGGER RISK I THE CASE THAN IN ANY OTHER CAS AND THAT'S BECAUSE PRETRIAL, THERE WAS A HEARING AND TH JUDGE DECIDED THAT HE COULD ONLY BE TRIED AS AN ACTOR IN THIS CASE AND NOT AS A PRODUCER BUT IF BALDWIN TAKES THE STAND AND STARTS TALKING ABOUT WHAT HE DID AS A PRODUCER, THAT COUL OPEN THE DOOR ACCORDING TO THE RULES OF EVIDENCE AND ALLOW TH PROSECUTION TO TRY HIM I BRINGING EVIDENCE AS A PRODUCER. THEY HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY O THE PRODUCER, MUCH BIGGE BECAUSE THEN YOU COULD B RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFETY ON TH SET. >> BALDWIN ASIDE, LET'S TALK ABOUT THE OTHER WITNESSES BEIN CALLED WE HAVE HEARD OF FOUR IN THE CASE WHO ELSE WILL WE HEAR FROM >> WE WILL HEAR FROM TWO GROUPS. ONE IS A GROUP THAT CLAIMS THERE IS A STANDARD OF RESPONSIBILITY. EXPERTS SAYING THIS IS WHA PEOPLE SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE ON THE SET. AND THEN SECOND IS PEOPLE WH WERE THERE THAT DAY AND PEOPLE WHO CAN TESTIFY TO WHETHER O NOT HE FULFILLED THE RESPONSIBILITY OR NOT. SO THE KEY IS THE ASSISTAN DIRECTOR WHO TOOK A PLEA AGREEMENT UNDER THE CONDITIO THAT HE WOULD TESTIFY. I THINK HE MAY HELP BALDWI BECAUSE HE IS THE ONE WHO YELLED OUT COLD GUN AND HE IS THE ONE THAT BALDWIN RELIED UPON THE QUESTION IS WILL THE ARMORER, HANNAH GUTIERREZ REED TESTIFY. SHE COULD PLEAD THE FIFTH AN THE PROSECUTION MAY NOT FIND HER HELPFUL AND MAY NOT PUT HER ON THE STAND. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH >>> PASSENGERS ON AN AMERICA AIRLINES FLIGHT GOT A SCAR AFTER A TIRE APPEARED WEEKDAYS 0 >>> WE ARE PACK WITH A CLOSE CALL OF AN AMERICAN AIRLINES PLANE FROM TAMPA TO PHOENIX. HOW ARE WE BUILDING IN TO TEAC WHEN IT IS HELPFUL AND WHEN IT IS HARMFUL THE KEY THING IS ARE WE TALKIN TO OUR KIDS ABOUT WHAT THEY AR LOOKING AT ARE WE ASKING THEM TO SHOW US. ARE WE TEACHING THEM WHAT IS HEALTHY AND UNHEALTHY.
